First time at Sunny Side Café. I had driven by this restaurant countless times. But for some reason i had never really noticed it. I'm not sure why. And then during a Yelp search, I saw the ratings. So, I went in last Friday for a late brunch with my parents and i can definitely say that i was pleasantly surprised. This restaurant is located in a small strip mall at the corner of Westminster Ave and Seal Beach Blvd. in Seal Beach. There is lots of parking out front and there is a handicap ramp leading to the entrance. From the parking lot to the interior of the restaurant, everything is clean with beautiful and simple floral designs. We came in at a down time as it was an hour or 2 prior to closing on a weekday. So, we just about enjoyed the whole restaurant to ourselves. As we walked in, we were greeted with a smile and immediately led to our table. The interior of the restaurant is setup like a country diner with booths and a long breakfast counter with high chairs. Only way more modern with fresh wall colors, rustic wood accents, vibrant tiled floors and large glass windows. It is Cozy and inviting. The old school playlist adds a relaxing touch. I really liked the live edge look-alike design on the tables. The wall of the hallway leading to the restrooms, is covered with really cool kids hand drawings. I thought this was a nice touch. I really like their overall menu which offers something for everyone. (See full menu in attached pictures) I ordered the Ribeye steak and eggs. The steak was tender, the sunny side up eggs were cooked over easy and i asked for the hash brown to be extra crispy. And it also came with 2 slices of toast. It was really good. My Mother got the Greek chicken skewer which is one grilled chicken skewer with grilled onions and bell peppers on a bed of garlic butter rice, a side of Tzatziki and a greek salad. My mother ate it all, i had a taste of it. It was delicious. My father was not hungry so he just had a latté. We all had a latté. They also have an orange juicer for fresh squeezed OJ and a pastry case. That day, they had some really fresh looking Almond croissants. Overall, we had a very good first time experience. Gioia, our server, who could have been the manager for all i know, was so kind, welcoming and accommodating. Which made our experience even better. I will definitely be coming back. Good spot. Love the atmosphere, the food, and the service. The only part that I didn't thoroughly enjoy was the drip coffee as it tasted burnt. Let them know and they gladly comped it. Has the country friend Steak & Eggs and it was really a good choice. The wife had the ribeye and eggs and it's a great portion at a good price and the presentation is nice as well. The Country fried came with a delicious homemade biscuit and cinnamon butter. Subbed out the potatoes for a salad (even this had a nice presentation and taste). Had seen this place for years but thanks to Yelp I finally checked it out! Sunny Side Cafe is such a hidden gem! I ordered the Daybreak with French toast made on their cinnamon swirl bread, sausage, and swapped the eggs for hashbrowns--and everything was absolutely amazing. The French toast was perfectly sweet and flavorful, the sausage was cooked just right, and the hashbrowns were crispy and delicious. On top of the food, the whole place has a super cute diner vibe that makes you feel comfortable right away. Came on by a Saturday morning around 10:30am no wait got seated as soon as the hostess approached us. Very friendly service food came out within 10-15 min from ordering. We went with chicken fried steak so yummy hashbrowns were crispy and soft in the inner layer. Egg quality is amazing and cooked well. Vanilla Iced coffee is yummy however not very sweet if you like a sweeter latte. The biscuit wasn't really to my liking next time I would get some toast instead(: definitely will be returning to try other plates. We came around 10 a.m. on a Sunday with my son, and I already had an inkling the food was going to be good because the dining room was full of multiple generations. That's always the sign. The wait was about 15 minutes and parking was easy, which is a weekend miracle. While we waited, I watched them use a machine that fresh-squeezes oranges right there. I didn't order the orange juice, but it definitely set the tone. Inside, it was bustling with people coming in and out, but the vibes were still super chill. They had an old-school music playlist that felt perfect for all ages, like everybody could enjoy it. Also, each table had a fresh sunflower, which is such a simple, cute touch. Now let's talk food. My son got the Mini Mooncakes with chocolate chips, and I tried a bite and whew... they slapped. Slightly crisp on the edges, soft and fluffy in the middle, with semi-sweet chocolate chips and buttery goodness. I ordered the All-American with the Load Hash, and it was exactly what I wanted: thick strips of bacon, and eggs that were clearly fresh because the yolks were that bright, rich yellow. The sourdough with their in-house strawberry jam was the perfect little sweet moment on the side. And the Load Hash? Was it a little salty? Yes. Did that stop me from demolishing the whole plate? Did my first dine in here as I work in the area. The parking lot was full. I ordered the half sandwich and soup and it also came with an AMAZING side salad. The soup was tomato bisque. Delicious, but just a tad too salty for me. I took my half sandwich to go. My friend ordered the Popeye omelet with home fries. The coffee was piping hot and delicious. (just the way I like it) and our server promptly did refills twice in the short time we were there. The prices are reasonable, the staff is pleasant and friendly and the restaurant is SUPER clean and new with plenty of parking. My friend took the key lime pie to go, but ended up eating it there. I was in the area and with a quick search (on yelp of course. I found this place) I came on a Saturday around 11 am. They do have a very large parking lot. When we walked in it was packed! But we did get seated right away. The hostess was extremely sweet. We walked past the bakery items in the glass case and asked our hostess about it. But I can't stress how PACKED this place is. Every table was taken. Came here after dropping off some documents to a friend's place. The pancakes were a bit chewy for my mom and for me as well. We needed more syrup but forgot to ask when taking it to go. The eggs were alright. Nothing to write home about. The bacon was a little hard and chewy too. I was able to finish my breakfast in almost its entirety. But my mom had to take her pancakes to go. The place has ample seating and two TV's on the side we were at. They also have a room in the back and they have outdoor seating as well for those that have pets. They have a glass case with house made pastries that looked delicious. Also espresso and other coffee options like lattes and matcha. We all got the pancake breakfast and it did not disappoint. Pancake was crispy on the outside and fluffy inside and so so delicious. I got the fresh OJ which was nice and tangy and fresh squeezed. What a way to wrap up a huge 5-mile walk--by immediately undoing all that effort with an equally huge brunch at Sunnyside Café. I went with the girls for our first visit, and we're already planning our next "walk," which is really just an excuse to come back and eat again. The breakfast burrito was absolutely massive, definitely big enough for two people to share, and the salsa on the side was really flavorful. I chose the breakfast sandwich, which was huge and delicious with a fluffy egg, melted cheese, moderately crispy bacon, and a slight hint of chipotle mayo that really hit the spot. On the way out, I could not resist the bakery items. Apparently they are known for their Key lime pie, and I can see why. I ended up taking home an entire pie--not just a slice--because after tasting it, I realized it was one of the best Key lime pies I've ever had. I also grabbed one of their carrot cakes, which was right up there with some of the better ones I've tasted. The breakfast prices are nicely affordable, especially considering the generous portion sizes. Bring your appetite because they don't hold back. Parking is easy enough since it's in a lot shared with a small strip mall, but don't drive too fast or you might pass it up. As mentioned, chilaquiles were a hit, overnight oats surprisingly delicious, French toast & pancakes were pretty tasty and sufficiently fluffy, but the omelettes were overcooked and nothing special. Both times he got a side of bacon, the first time it was soo thick, crispy and delicious. The second time was just alright. Oh, he also loved their organic coffee, would probably keep coming back just for the coffee and chilaquiles. Food aside, it's the service that could use a little work. Both times we came, they were kinda busy (10ish min wait before getting seated) but not like out the door lines. The first time, we were seated at a dirty table, and they had to wipe it down awkwardly after we were already seated. And the table was not set, we never got utensils until after our food came and we had to ask the food runner. Both times, the wait for our food after we ordered was longer than our wait to get seated. They're not super kid friendly.. even though they had a kids menu, the food was plated the same way as other dishes.. as in big plates and same adult utensils (at other places, kids at least get plastic utensils so it's not a hazard). Both times, the coffee refill only came after we got our check.. both times, our experience just felt like they didn't had a groove going. Saw the waitress chit chatting and forgotten about the food and addressed it and she has no urgency Eggs benedict fell flat. Potatoes had little flavor and charged me $6 for a side of gravy that was half a cup. The latte was room temperature. This was the deal breaker. It was a SMALL cup of latte too. It was Just one thing after another. I was so disappointed and never coming back. Theres nothing like spending a lot of your money at a place only to be disappointed with your food and service. The first thing I noticed was the awesome music playing as I walked in. This set the tone for what would be a great dining experience. Hard to believe that everything was as good as it was. Eggs were nice and fluffy. Turkey sausage was cooked just the way I like em. Almost crunchy on the edge, well done, juicy and flavorful. Orange juice tasted like it was freshly squeezed but could be one of them name brand versions. Fries were crunchy and are on par with McDonald's fries. Patty melt was on point. I live in Seal Beach and I have always driven by Sunny Side Cafe. Yesterday, my curiosity got the best of me so I finally walked in this restaurant. Hampton Suites is a five minute walk from this place so I'm assuming their customers base are mostly visitors staying at Hampton's or from Boeing. They have ample parking and it is very clean around here in Seal Beach. I was greeted by a cheerful receptionist. It was 11:45 am when I walked in this restaurant. Their menu is simple. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. They also have after hour snacks menu like oats. Waitress came over after 8 minutes. They were quite busy yesterday. I ordered their chilaquiles. It looked like an appetizer but It was ok. The tuna melt was good but the size was a bit small according to my companion. However, when the order came, it took 20 minutes for us to get a refill of our drinks and it's probably because they were a bit busy. Nonetheless, the meal was ok and staff seemed to be friendly and personable. I gave this establishment a 3.5 ratings. Their location was convenient. read more

Enjoyed breakfast at 10am on a Saturday. This was my first visit. The restaurant appeared very clean which is always a big plus. I was excited to order blueberry pancakes but slightly disappointed that the majority of the flavor for the blueberries was the large amount of blueberry compote they put on top. It was all great although I didn't touch the syrup. This boy only accepts pure maple syrup as an accompaniment to my pancakes. I'd have been happy to pay a few $$$ extra for the real thing. My bf got this, and let me tell you although it was good, this is more of a hash brown burrito. As you bite into it, all you get is a mouthful of hash browns. And what makes it worse, is that the hash brown is not crispy at all. The best part was the well crisp tortilla and salsa on the side. _Beachside Pancakes ($19) 2 local egg, thick smoked bacon or pork sausage, 2 chocolate chip or blueberry pancakes, and whip cream. This is a solid and simple breakfast. The pancakes were really good and well cooked with nice crisp edges on the side. I wish the blueberries were more fresh as opposed to jam like, because it was very sweet and made the pancakes soggy in the middle. A bit overpriced for what it was.
