I have been to Sunny Hyde Up a few times, and it is a great local brunch spot. Their brunch drinks are really good, and I appreciate the variety of breakfast options on the menu. It is an easy place to find something you are in the mood for. The reason for four stars instead of five is the service. Each time I have been, it has felt a bit slow. During our last visit, we would have ordered another round of drinks if our server had come by more frequently. Overall, I do really like this spot and will continue to come back. This place is very nice I am from Las Vegas so it definitely gives that vibe of a fun brunch, we came yesterday December 20th, 2025 and had reservations for 11:15am we arrived at 11:04am and checked in with the host the place was packed so we waited outside when some space inside finally opened up we took a seat we seen allot of guest walk in and didn't have reservations and were told a wait time many walked out, the hosts seemed a little overwhelmed and lost when it came to seating the guests we didn't get seated until closed to 11:30, they sat us next a door that was operable that guests could walk in and out of, imagine eating an people are are just walking in and out of a side door next to your table. We sat at the table for about 10 mins before a server came to us, I believe her name was Victoria she took our order and asked if we were ready to order food but we were not another few mins passes and received our drinks we ordered the Christmas tree of mimosas and it was $45 and they were good. She came back again and took our order, upon watching the dining room I could see they were very busy sections seemed a little large for the severs considering allot of them were not checking in on their tables. Everyone else got their food before me I ordered the chicken and waffles and received mine last significantly so past that everyone at the table was halfway through their food I had two different food runners tell me sorry yours should be coming soon, I have no problem waiting for something if you tell me that the item I'm ordering has a little more of a drag time but nobody did. The server never came around again until it was time to pay, we sat for awhile before she came by and we had to ask for the check and that took a while to bring as well, a manger or owner was walking around talking to some but not all tables and let's just say mine definitely wasn't one that was touched. The check was finally dropped and again we waited for her to pick it up, then another girl came and dropped the check off, as we were signing the check the server finally came back over and said thanks for coming by then it was too late you were barley talking with us engaging with us it was a very transactional experience. As someone who has managed many restaurants on the strip maybe my expectations were too high but interacting with your table isn't too much to ask for. Opened in summer of 2025, Sunny Hyde Up is a great brunch/lunch spot. It's been open for a few months and it's still a little rough on operations. The interior is pretty nice and appealing for a local brunch. It has a pretty large dining room with quite a bit of space. We went in on a Friday morning and service was a little slow but there weren't many servers working at the time. Our server was very lovely. There was a bit of delay with service but it wasn't too long. The food was very delicious. The French toast was so delicious. The filling was rich and could have been great with a little less. The churros were crunchy and perfectly dusted is cinnamon sugar. The chilaquiles were cooked very nicely and the beef machaca had such a flavorful broth that was paired nicely with the pickled onions. The wait took a while then expected even though I made a reservation so I was not very happy with that. We came today for a causal breakfast. The Chilaquiles were 6/10. The Machaca was seasoned perfectly. The meat was amazing. My issue was the store bought salsa that was so running if you don't eat this fast you'll have soggy chips at the bottom. It ended up being more of a soggy soup. The chicken and waffles 9/10. The Banana Bread Old Fashioned's were excellent! Also had the Carajillo which was equally impressive. Usually split breakfasts, not today. 2.5/5 This review is solely based on our 1st and only experience so far. All in all don't miss your 1pm reservation on Sunday. They close at 230, not 3pm and will not seat you. They did offer the bar (where our party of 4 would be split), but when the tables cleared, shortly after we put an order in for take out, they didn't offer it to us. If you're late they'll claim that its an 1hr-1.5hr wait for walkins, but its because they dont seat anyone after 1pm at a table. We showed up 15mins late, thats on us, but I think this could've been handled a bit more elegantly. Again, we thought they closed at 3pm, not 230 as the hostess had informed us. We saw people being turned away after us as more and more tables cleared. It was clear to us that you can sit at the bar or order take out but not be seated at the table after 1pm. In the end we got our order and left. I ordered a breakfast burrito for $18. My friend ordered some a la carte items. Then we waited. Others were seated around us. Waited some more. The restaurant was busy, but had empty tables so not slammed. About 45 minutes in, a couple near us who were seated AFTER us, got their food. I finished my coffee. Our server never told us what the wait was for or why and I couldn't find her so I flagged down another server. I explained people seated after us had their food. He went to find out. Still we waited with no explanation. About 55 minutes after arriving, we received our food. Our original server checked on us a couple of times after that. She did not ask if I wanted a refill or another coffee. I would have liked to have the coffee WITH my food but pay another $4.50? No. The food was okay, but nothing special for the cost. I was really excited to try this place out for months, and man was I disappointed. Upon entering, there is a sign to wait to be seated. The table was super tiny for even 3 people to share. Another 2-3 minutes pass, and our waitress finally came to take our drink order (the drinks were the main reason I wanted to try the place other than the food). After taking our drinks, water and 2 cocktails, she leaves again tending to other tables who have already been served or finished their food. Maybe it's just me, but I would have assumed she would ask if we were ready to order or needed a few more minutes to look at the menu (we were both ready). By this time more and more people have come into the restaurant and have been seated more quickly than we have. They have also been served their drinks just as quick. She didn't come back until she came to serve our cocktails, but by then it's been 15 minutes and I told her we were just going to have our drinks and leave. Still water was also $8. *Mimosa Flight: trio of pineapple, grapefruit, and orange -- garnished with fresh strawberries, oranges, and blueberries. The pineapple was more champagne-forward, while the other two leaned sweeter with stronger juice flavors. *The Foxtail: standout matcha-based cocktail with a strawberry foam. The foam had a bit of a bubblegum note, but it surprisingly worked with the earthy matcha. *Espresso Martini: served in a short glass instead of the classic martini glass, but the drink itself was great. It had a rich, dark cold brew flavor and was definitely one of the better coffee cocktails I've tried. *Breakfast Bruschetta: three toppings served on crispy English muffins. The avocado spread was creamy with a nice acidic kick. The bruschetta had a strong garlic punch and sweet-tart tomatoes, which worked well together. Unfortunately, the egg was overcooked and lacking in flavor. *Nicoise Salad: nearly inedible. The tuna was over-seasoned with Cajun spices and had a stringy texture. The salad was essentially a pile of croutons, cucumbers, tomatoes, and Parmesan over a couple lettuce leaves. The egg was dry, and the only saving grace was the well-roasted potatoes. I've been here about three times now, the first time it had just opened and the food - nachos con chorizo and chilaquiles de machaca were tasty and fresh, the drink was also good and fun, i think it was called cereal milk. The second time I went and got a BLT, it was okay, it tasted like burnt garlic and something on it was too strong/ sour. Might have been whatever garlic and cheese was on the bread. The third time i visited i had mixed feelings, I reserved space for 10 guests, I called to try and add two more guests the day before and didn't get a call back, this was my mistake on trying to add so last minute, but despite all this they attempted to originally sit 10 of us in one of their booth nooks, which I think realistically and comfortably sits 8 guests. I felt a bit of attitude from the hosts at the greeting desk, but despite that they were accommodating and helpful. I imagine it was because they were so busy. I also noticed the owner roaming around and looking over at our large group, but not once did he greet us or come over to us try and help the situation. We ended up waiting another maybe 25-30 minutes for a longer table and it was worth all the wait - after this, the service was great and the food came out fast. My one last review was about the tri-tip breakfast, the tri tip was thrown in a bowl in chunks and with chunks of potato and covered in a very very salty salsa verde. There is room for improvement when it comes to plating and presentation with that dish. Serving the tri-tip in strips, crunchy potatoes on the side, with eggs and that salsa on the side or just a bit added over the top of the tri tip, it was salty and barely edible. This is just my honest review from my experiences eating at SHU, the ambience is nice, the interior is pretty, the food is fresh with some dishes having room for improvement. read more

Food quality was great. Every thing was fresh. The pancake was amazing and I never order pancakes but heard about the vanilla butter so had to order one to share. Great decision. Misses-front of house staff seemed too preoccupied and annoyed. We were greeted upon entering but they immediately went back into their conversation. A few minutes later one of the gals apologized saying we'd get seated soon. Sort of bummed with the limited menu options for vegans or people who have dairy or egg allergies. Ordering from the à la carte menu takes all the fun out of a dining experience. No specialty coffees as a huge bummer. From the time we ordered our food to the time we got our food was a little over 45 minutes. The eggs were so gelatinous including the poached egg and had to spoon out all gooey cloudy clumps. During a recent visit to Sequoia National Park, we stopped at Sunny Hyde Up in Visalia for breakfast. What should have been a simple meal turned into one of the most uncomfortable and infuriating dining experiences we've ever had. We were told the wait would be about 20-30 minutes, which seemed reasonable. But once we were seated, everything went downhill. We were taken to the very back of the restaurant and placed at a neglected corner table with stained chairs and an uncleaned surface. Menus and empty cups were dropped off, and then we were completely ignored. Fifteen minutes passed with no greeting, no offer to take our order, and not even water. Staff walked by repeatedly without acknowledging us. Then another family was seated right next to us. The same server who had been ignoring us suddenly became attentive and friendly--bringing them water immediately and taking their drink order within minutes. Meanwhile, our cups were still empty. The difference in treatment was impossible to ignore. When the server finally came close enough, we flagged her down and asked for water. She asked if we wanted drinks, and we told her we were ready to order since we had already been waiting over 40 minutes. Her response was, "Yeah, but wait give me a second." She brought the water, still didn't take our order, and then went straight back to the other table to take their order--before ours-despite them being seated long after us. The blatant disregard for our table, the dismissive attitude, and the clear difference in service were unacceptable. We had been seated for nearly an hour with no service, no apology, and no acknowledgment. Meanwhile, the family next to us received full service within minutes. The message was loud and clear, and it was infuriating. Hungry, irritated, and tired of being treated like we didn't matter, we got up and left. No one stopped us, no one asked why, and no one seemed to care. I would strongly caution anyone--especially non-locals--to avoid this restaurant. It is unfortunate to say but we did not get a chance to try the food due to bad service. Save yourself the time, the gas, and the frustration of being ignored and made to feel unwelcome. The table was so small I kept knocking literally my silverware off the table and one of the staff removed the centerpiece so we could have room for our plates , we won't be back I suggest make sure food is hot especially when your customers are spending money for good food , also don't put customers in tight spaces when there are so many open tables .I gave 2 stars because staff and our waitress were very nice . read more

Sunny Hyde Up is the newly remodeled restaurant at the Lamp Lighter Hotel on the corner of West Main Street and Hwy. 198. For the remodel, Samuel chose to maintain the original integrity of the former restaurant and kept the original floors and layout. For those Visalians that frequently supported the original restaurant, Sunny Hyde Up will feel familiar except a lot brighter with natural light, and an open design that lends to a fun experience. The flight came with mini sausages and peppered bacon; awesome touch for the whiskey flight. I ordered the brunch burger ; it was delicious; just very messy hahaha. Being from LA, this feels a LOT like the brunch vibes I miss. Truly is my favorite meal to go out for. I've been here on 3 occasions. All three, the food was good. Atmosphere, great. However, service was slightly below average. First time we went, our table broke. And I mean broke broke where it was going to fall over if we let it go and we were just moved. Not sorry for the inconvenience, nothing. Second, was good. We took my daughter. Unfortunately, the kids menu was EXTREMELY limited so we had to get her an adult item, which I didn't really like. Last, we were there for about an hour and a half. Not because we wanted to be, but because the service was THAT bad. Took FOREVER to get our food and even drink. Husband stood with water, I had a cup of coffee. The theme is, the food is good. Slightly over priced, but good. But service was a cool 2/5 stars. I hope it continues to grow and get better because this place reminds me SO much of home. read more

We went to Sunny Hyde ip last week, we had their chilaquiles and their a la carte waffle, pancake and fruit. Food was delicious, my only suggestion is to ask for the butter in the side if you don't like add-ins, one had crushed nuts I believe (tasted like peanut butter) and the kiddo wasn't too fond of it. Great meal, delicious food, nice staff were very attentive. Ambiance was wonderful, it was great to see the building remodeled. Parking lot under construction so give yourself a couple of extra minutes when arriving for a reservation on a weekend. read more

We are here for the first time as a party of 4 at 10am. We had a reservation, and we were seated quickly. The restaurant is bigger on the inside than I thought and also very modern. Service was great and attentive, with good recommendations. I tried a mimosa with their nonalcoholic prosecco and it was very good. They served a full glass of the prosecco with orange juice on the side so you could add as much orange juice as you desire. The orange juice was fresh also and not very sweet. I had the SHU stack with bacon. The pancakes were very yummy and crispy on the edges which was a great textural element. The butter was their specialty smoked vanilla butter. It was good, but the sweet butter with the syrup and pancakes was a bit too sweet for me. The syrup was also overly sweet and a bit artificial tasting, real maple syrup would really elevate this dish. The bacon was cooked perfectly however. My husband had the lobster eggs Benedict, and it was incredible! The flavor was delicious, not too much like seafood. The eggs were perfect too! I was underwhelmed when I went. Food was just okay. Mimosas didn't have enough of the juice flavor for me. French toast was super dry! Not worth it. I enjoyed the grilled chicken and potatoes the most. The salsa they brought on the side for my eggs was good. Server took a while to take our payment. We sat there for a while before heading to the front thinking we paid on our way out. The server also wasn't informed about their seasonal drink menu when I went. The atmosphere and decor was super cute. Bar area would be nice to have a drink and talk. Restaurant was very busy when I went. read more

Love this place!!!! Visalia needed a great breakfast place, and this place knocks it out of the park. It is not just a breakfast place, but it is also high end, chic, and fun!!! The service is amazing, and everyone is so friendly and nice. Reservations were full, but able to sit at the bar first come first serve and the lovely bartender Max was so great and service was hyper smooth. The bar menu is great. We got the fruit loop milk punch, and it was delicious!!! I didn't know milk punches were clear!!! They also have a banana bread old fashion! Such clever drinks!!! The wine list has a great mix of California' wines and also non alcoholic drinks for those driving. The food is great too!!!! Such an interesting menu!!!!!! I wanted to order everything. We got the Chorizo Nachos, Honey Cured Steak, Tuna Benedict, AND... if you have any ties to Arkansas... they have candied bacon!!!!!!!!! It was all delicious!!! Highly recommend this place. Just finished a three hour brunch for our cousins birthday. We were seated right on time and quickly greeted by our server Lucy. And, this was at 12:15 in a full house! I loved walking into a busy, lively, happy restaurant. Great atmosphere with only one negative, that being the sound level. Food and drinks ordered and delivered without much wait at all. Food was a 9*. We each loved our dish. Well not dish, but meal! Lol Sam welcomed us to his restaurant and took time after our meal to follow up. Go & Enjoy. Great business read more
