Sunny Hyde Up is such a great spot! It's dog-friendly, the portions are generous, and the staff is always welcoming and friendly. We really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and appreciated being able to bring our pup along. The only thing I would suggest is adding a little more shade on the patio during the summer and maybe a few fans to help keep it cooler on those hot days. Ambiance: lovely. It ends there. Our first visit food was mid. Chicken had very thick flour coating close to burnt and its bitter. We order pancakes that had a blob of cream with wilted strawberries. There was no effort to plate it nicely. We did not complain because things happen. Back again this week for the second time. It cant be bad right? Wrong. For some reason servers looks unhappy with their job. No smile. Robotic and unapproachable. Food came and its cold and it takes foreverrrr. When you look for your server its nowhere to be found. Understaffed in a busy morning. Soda are watered down. They dont present and plate their food to look pleasing and again the dessert pancakes are a blob of cream its overwhelming. Came in today for brunch (with a reservation this time), service started out ok, but then we waited and waited and waaaaaaaited for our food. 2 of the 3 people at our table had issues with their orders (cold food, wrong eggs, a weird smoky flavor in the whipped butter?), but it was impossible to find out server again or anyone else to help. I had to ask two different people for some butter for my DRY toast, and finally got a couple of ice cold, hard butter pats. Not great for toast im trying to eat now. They never came to clear our plates, so we sat with empty cups, sticky plates, and cold uneaten eggs in front of us for.ev.errrrrrrrrrrrr. Talk about a vibe killer. Edit: since I can't reply! I do appreciate the response, I still would prefer to hear "OMG I'm so sorry our kitchen served that!" She had already eaten some of her dish before realizing where the bad taste was coming from. While it's lovely atmosphere with a beautiful patio, my friend was served ä black and rotten tasting avocado hidden in her eggs Benedict. She had to sub it, so she was paying for it, yet they still thought it was okay to use ä rotten avocado and make her pay. While they server was lovely, and did remove the charge, there was no apology and it seemed as if this is normal practice, and if you don't complain then they made money on it he up charge. I don't know why anyone would ever serve an avocado without cutting out ä black spot, let alone the entire avocado being black. It was hidden in the sauce, but the taste was so bad she had to take them out and then saw how bad it was. We came to Sunny Hyde up on a Sunday to celebrate National Sisters Day. My sister made brunch reservations ahead of time, which surprised me for a breakfast spot in Visalia, but considering they're newer and were busy, it makes sense. The vibe is definitely giving Palm Springs/LA aesthetic. The space is clean, bright, and cute including the restroom. I loved the booth setup and they also have bar seating that's first come, first served if you don't have a reservation. The staff was friendly, we all ordered something different, and I had the chorizo omelette, which was good. The sazon actually reminded me a lot of Component Coffee breakfast food. My biggest pet peeve was the coffee situation, no complimentary refills. For a brunch spot, unlimited coffee refills would definitely improve the experience. I've been to Sunny Hyde Up several times over the past year, and unfortunately each visit seems to have been a little less impressive than the one before. There is still plenty to like. The brunch menu offers a good variety of options, and the drinks can be excellent when they are prepared consistently. Unfortunately, our last two visits have been disappointing. For a restaurant that promotes more of a reservation-style experience, the condition of the restrooms was unacceptable. The men's restroom smelled strongly of urine, and there was a large roll of wet paper towels sitting on the counter because the dispenser apparently wasn't working. Service was extremely slow, once again. We were never offered a second round of drinks, despite being there long enough that we would have gladly ordered one. I don't necessarily blame the servers because they always seem to be working hard. It feels more like a staffing issue, with employees spread too thin. Drink consistency was also a problem. We ordered two of the same cocktails, and they had a noticeable difference in the size of the cocktail.. One thing that stood out was the suggested tip screen, which started at 20 percent and went up to 30 percent. Considering the level of service we received, that felt a little excessive. Overall, it feels as though the restaurant has gradually declined since it first opened. We'll probably take a break before returning. read more

My mom and I came here for brunch, and unfortunately we left pretty disappointed. When we arrived, the host didn't greet us at all--not even a simple "hello." It was a weekend, so it was a little busy, but nothing too crazy, and we were the only walk-ins. We were seated in the bar area, and our server was very kind and friendly. The only downside was that she only checked on us once during our meal. The best part of brunch was definitely the sangria--it was delicious! Unfortunately, both my mom's food and mine came out extremely cold. The ambiance and decor are really nice, but the food didn't match the atmosphere at all. This place is super cute inside, very chic. This was the former Lamp Liter Bar & Grill. I had the breakfast enchiladas, it was three blue corn tortillas (homemade) which were stuff with chorizo, potatos and cheese. A red chile sauce, sour cream, queso fresco, pickled onions (super delicious), and an egg (I order it over medium). The coffee was not as strong as I would have liked, it was decent, but the breakfast enchiladas is something to write about!!! A little spicy, which I loved . I met up with a few friends to celebrate, and from the moment we walked in, we were impressed by the inviting entrance and spacious, open atmosphere. We visited on a Tuesday around 10:30 a.m., and one of my favorite things about SHU is that they serve both their brunch and lunch menus all day. Being able to order anything at any time is a huge plus. For drinks, I ordered the Sol Rising, which was perfectly balanced--not too sweet and incredibly refreshing. One thing that really stood out was their huge drink menu, unlike anything else I've seen at a brunch spot, with plenty of creative options to choose from. We also shared the Charcuterie Brunch Board, which was a standout. I especially loved the homemade cottage cheese topped with a touch of spicy honey. The berry preserves were a little runny, but the flavor was fantastic and paired beautifully with the pita bread. We also ordered the Sunny Hyde Open Omelette, which was a fun and unique take on a traditional omelette. Also enjoyed the Smoked Salmon Bagel and the Chicken & Waffles. To drink, we also had the Wake Up Call, which was the perfect twist on a cold coffee cocktail without being another espresso martini. Everything we ordered was delicious--even the potatoes, which are often an afterthought at many brunch spots, were flavorful and cooked perfectly. We sat at the table for about 10 mins before a server came to us, I believe her name was Victoria she took our order and asked if we were ready to order food but we were not another few mins passes and received our drinks we ordered the Christmas tree of mimosas and it was $45 and they were good. She came back again and took our order, upon watching the dining room I could see they were very busy sections seemed a little large for the severs considering allot of them were not checking in on their tables. Everyone else got their food before me I ordered the chicken and waffles and received mine last significantly so past that everyone at the table was halfway through their food I had two different food runners tell me sorry yours should be coming soon, I have no problem waiting for something if you tell me that the item I'm ordering has a little more of a drag time but nobody did. The server never came around again until it was time to pay, we sat for awhile before she came by and we had to ask for the check and that took a while to bring as well, a manger or owner was walking around talking to some but not all tables and let's just say mine definitely wasn't one that was touched. The check was finally dropped and again we waited for her to pick it up, then another girl came and dropped the check off, as we were signing the check the server finally came back over and said thanks for coming by then it was too late you were barley talking with us engaging with us it was a very transactional experience. As someone who has managed many restaurants on the strip maybe my expectations were too high but interacting with your table isn't too much to ask for. We went in on a Friday morning and service was a little slow but there weren't many servers working at the time. Our server was very lovely. There was a bit of delay with service but it wasn't too long. The food was very delicious. The French toast was so delicious. The filling was rich and could have been great with a little less. The churros were crunchy and perfectly dusted is cinnamon sugar. The chilaquiles were cooked very nicely and the beef machaca had such a flavorful broth that was paired nicely with the pickled onions. I had the loaded breakfast burrito w/ chorizo, the picture is half the burrito, I was only able to eat half before getting stuffed, it was delicious! I had the left over the next morning & it was just as good. The cinnamon roll we expected to come out before, but it came out after which wasn't that big of a deal, but very delicious, we shared it among 3 of us. I loved it! Christmas Eve day my friend and I decided to try the new brunch place in town. I made reservations the day before on resy. We entered and were greeted right away with a short wait. We were seated in the large room on the west side of the building. A server came by and took our drink order. I ordered a $4.50 decaf coffee. Shortly after, she took our food order. I ordered a breakfast burrito for $18. My friend ordered some a la carte items. Then we waited. Others were seated around us. Waited some more. The restaurant was busy, but had empty tables so not slammed. About 45 minutes in, a couple near us who were seated AFTER us, got their food. I finished my coffee. Our server never told us what the wait was for or why and I couldn't find her so I flagged down another server. I explained people seated after us had their food. He went to find out. Still we waited with no explanation. About 55 minutes after arriving, we received our food. Our original server checked on us a couple of times after that. She did not ask if I wanted a refill or another coffee. I would have liked to have the coffee WITH my food but pay another $4.50? No. The food was okay, but nothing special for the cost. I was really excited to try this place out for months, and man was I disappointed. Upon entering, there is a sign to wait to be seated. The restaurant was somewhat full, with a huge party in the back. We were the only ones at the door at the time and waited a minute or two for someone. I walked around to see if I can get anyone's attention but no one was around other than a few servers serving food. By this time, about five minutes pass, and another gentleman walks in. He asks if we were waiting long and we said yes. Not a minute later someone finally came to get us seated, which even then took a few minutes. The hostess stated that he was trying to help with the party in the back, but he wasn't serving them. I understand it being busy and helping, but I feel I am just as important as the bigger party. The table was super tiny for even 3 people to share. Another 2-3 minutes pass, and our waitress finally came to take our drink order (the drinks were the main reason I wanted to try the place other than the food). After taking our drinks, water and 2 cocktails, she leaves again tending to other tables who have already been served or finished their food. Maybe it's just me, but I would have assumed she would ask if we were ready to order or needed a few more minutes to look at the menu (we were both ready). By this time more and more people have come into the restaurant and have been seated more quickly than we have. They have also been served their drinks just as quick. She didn't come back until she came to serve our cocktails, but by then it's been 15 minutes and I told her we were just going to have our drinks and leave. On my first visit, we were seated near the bar and weren't given menus right away. Service was very slow and we had to flag down staff multiple times for basics like utensils and water. The meal ended up stretching to two hours. My second visit was smoother, likely because we were seated in the main dining area. Still water was also $8. *Mimosa Flight: trio of pineapple, grapefruit, and orange -- garnished with fresh strawberries, oranges, and blueberries. The pineapple was more champagne-forward, while the other two leaned sweeter with stronger juice flavors. *The Foxtail: standout matcha-based cocktail with a strawberry foam. The foam had a bit of a bubblegum note, but it surprisingly worked with the earthy matcha. *Espresso Martini: served in a short glass instead of the classic martini glass, but the drink itself was great. It had a rich, dark cold brew flavor and was definitely one of the better coffee cocktails I've tried. *Breakfast Bruschetta: three toppings served on crispy English muffins. The avocado spread was creamy with a nice acidic kick. The bruschetta had a strong garlic punch and sweet-tart tomatoes, which worked well together. Unfortunately, the egg was overcooked and lacking in flavor. *Nicoise Salad: nearly inedible. The tuna was over-seasoned with Cajun spices and had a stringy texture. The salad was essentially a pile of croutons, cucumbers, tomatoes, and Parmesan over a couple lettuce leaves. The egg was dry, and the only saving grace was the well-roasted potatoes. The drinks were solid, but the kitchen could benefit from refining flavors and improving the execution of proteins. For a breakfast centric spot, the eggs have been consistently overcooked. Some hits and some misses and all the misses were merely growing pains and my lack of making my preferences known. Hits-Decor, ambiance, service, food quality, food hot, water chilled. Food quality was great. Every thing was fresh. The pancake was amazing and I never order pancakes but heard about the vanilla butter so had to order one to share. Great decision. Misses-front of house staff seemed too preoccupied and annoyed. We were greeted upon entering but they immediately went back into their conversation. A few minutes later one of the gals apologized saying we'd get seated soon. Sort of bummed with the limited menu options for vegans or people who have dairy or egg allergies. Ordering from the à la carte menu takes all the fun out of a dining experience. No specialty coffees as a huge bummer. I've been here about three times now, the first time it had just opened and the food - nachos con chorizo and chilaquiles de machaca were tasty and fresh, the drink was also good and fun, i think it was called cereal milk. I think the nachos could've done with less cheese sauce because they got soggy super quick, but overall the flavors were good. The second time I went and got a BLT, it was okay, it tasted like burnt garlic and something on it was too strong/ sour. Might have been whatever garlic and cheese was on the bread. The third time i visited i had mixed feelings, I reserved space for 10 guests, I called to try and add two more guests the day before and didn't get a call back, this was my mistake on trying to add so last minute, but despite all this they attempted to originally sit 10 of us in one of their booth nooks, which I think realistically and comfortably sits 8 guests. I felt a bit of attitude from the hosts at the greeting desk, but despite that they were accommodating and helpful. I imagine it was because they were so busy. I also noticed the owner roaming around and looking over at our large group, but not once did he greet us or come over to us try and help the situation. We ended up waiting another maybe 25-30 minutes for a longer table and it was worth all the wait - after this, the service was great and the food came out fast. My one last review was about the tri-tip breakfast, the tri tip was thrown in a bowl in chunks and with chunks of potato and covered in a very very salty salsa verde. There is room for improvement when it comes to plating and presentation with that dish. We've been wanting to try SHU even since it opened. Went to farmers market and the SHU for breakfast. We were seated quickly and appreciated the light airy feel of the dining room. Wanted to have something non traditional for breakfast and decided on the open face omelette with chorizo, fresh house made pico and house made tortillas AWA fried potatoes. So many textures and flavors! A little spicy which I love. Wife had the Lobster Benedict and loved it . There was a minor delay in the food coming out but the place was packed and the food was definitely worth the wait. Can't wait to go back to SHU again soon. read more

Came in for a late breakfast on a weekday...pretty busy for what I thought would be a quieter time. Nice looking dining area but the seats are weird. The high seats at the tables have a weird foot rest that's too high so it's uncomfortable in what is a shallow seat...the regular seats sat pretty low...a personal thing, I know but it made for a less than ideal sit down..Ordered the sunny breakfast. Really good food. Our server was really nice...even fixed the auto gratuity before I had a chance to say something. They have auto gratuity on parties of 6+ but apparently their computer/register would add it to every bill. As with previous reviews about things they didn't have, no milk today...end of the world? No. Pet peeve? Yes. Overall,. nice place to eat...just a bit pricey compared to other breakfasts in town. read more

What went well at Sunny Hyde Up? Everything! We received excellent service, including a check-in from the manager, Samuel Ramirez. We honestly didn't have any notes to share with him. Our food was delicious and the order was served nice and hot. Our server was excellent and checked regularly to make sure all was well. The ambiance was amazing. Sunny Hyde Up is the newly remodeled restaurant at the Lamp Lighter Hotel on the corner of West Main Street and Hwy. 198. For the remodel, Samuel chose to maintain the original integrity of the former restaurant and kept the original floors and layout. For those Visalians that frequently supported the original restaurant, Sunny Hyde Up will feel familiar except a lot brighter with natural light, and an open design that lends to a fun experience. The food is delicious and served beautifully. The portions are filling and they have an open bar. Everyone seemed very happy and pleased to be there. I highly recommend Sunny Hyde Up. read more
