MY fiancé made reservations here for my birthday. In hindsight I wish we went elsewhere. Started with the beignets (I'm from Louisiana originally, obviously beignets are taken serious there) and they left so much to desire. Entrees we ordered were biscuits & gravy, spicy chicken sandwich, and a kids one egg breakfast. We've had better biscuits at McDonald's. They were hard/overcooked. The chicken on the spicy sandwich was a glorified chicken nugget with extra breading. My son kept spitting out his eggs and the sausage was definitely a bit spicy for a 15 month old. Fiancé also said his Bloody Mary was too thick and he wouldn't order again. I said no worries, we won't be back. The aesthetic is wonderful. Beautifully designed and laid out restaurant. The decor is cute. I wanted so much to like it. My friend flew in and I wanted to take her somewhere nice. I heard about the crowds and wait time so she agreed to go as soon as they opened, even made reservations to ensure a table. We were the first in the parking lot, arriving a few minutes before 8 a.m. We chatted it up in the car, then noticed others coming to park so we decided to head in. Check in was easy, the hostess found my Open Table reservation and sat us immediately. Tiny table, close to other tables but at the time it was just us so the only loudness came through the overhead speakers. Luckily my friend and I knew the genre and the music wasn't bad. Our server was kind, she took our order and checked on us at least twice during our dining experience. I ordered the Chicken and Waffles while my friend ordered the Breakfast Burrito. Now, what I'm about to say next is the most polite manner, considering that it wasnt an "average" 3-star worthy food experience. We were the first customers of the day. It wasn't busy yet. The kitchen didn't appear to be slammed with orders. So why were the waffles soggy at arrival? It was not fresh from a waffle iron. It was worse than a frozen microwaved substance. My order came with 3 chicken strips that appeared to be smaller than one thigh, unless it was a really skinny chicken. And that was $17! Sorry, the food is not Sunday's "Best" and I left their restaurant still hungry. Our server noticed that I didn't eat any of the waffles and asked if something was wrong or if I wanted a box to go. I politely said that the waffles were soggy and that I didn't want them. She graciously informed the kitchen and then discounted a portion of my order off the bill. I appreciate the gesture. It's a cute place. They've done everything to make it instagrammable with neon day drinking signs and gold light fixtures and pink glassware. However I don't always want a restaurant to just be Instagrammable. I got the very basic truck stop breakfast with eggs, house made sausage, toast and hash browns. The sourdough toast was the star of the show. Very fresh and soft and delicious. The rest of it was ok. The service was good and the food was delivered quickly. Their food I am meh about I have had their biscuits and gravy and enjoyed those, their breakfast meal, and my last time the fried rice. I would have to say the rice was right up my alley had it not been so salty. I ended up taking it home to refry it and add a lot more rice to help distribute the salt. Huevos rancheros had deep and rich flavors, the sauce had so many layers to it which was unexpected. The pork was tender and cooked with care. The chefs must be proud! The slaw and arugula added nice crunch and freshness. The fried tortilla at the base held up well to the moisture until it was gone. Biscuits and gravy with fried chicken was literally the best I have had, ever and I've eaten a ton of this over my years.
