I am unsure what has happened to the staffing at this place over the years as I have been here many times before. As of today, everyone working there lacked any decorum - and is constantly letting everyone know that they are soooooo busy, very rude, and extremely impatient with customer questions This is coming from someone who has experienced working high volume restaurants in NYC. this is absurd behavior and extremely disappointing, even upon asking for a manager later the manager let me know that she is dealing with a huuuggeee party and cannot do anything to help anyone. It seems like the whole staff does not know how to carry themselves in a busy environment. Every single person who works here should be fired or retrained. read more

The Cotton Bottom is located at the foothills of Cottonwood Canyon on a discrete side street. Theres plenty of outdoor seating and is a nice place to enjoy a meal on days where the weather is nice. One thing I appreciate about this establishment is that the menu is simple, they offers two types of burgers: cheese burgers or garlic burgers. I went with the famous garlic double burger and boy was it huge. Served in an unorthodox hoagie style bread this behemoth comes with three patties, American cheese, fresh lettuce, tomato, and onions and of course garlic. There's was a slight concern that these burgers would be on the heavy garlic side, but in fact the garlic is somewhat subtle. Great burgers are tough to come by in Utah and this is up there with the best. read more

It just sucks to get off on the wrong foot with the hostess setting the wrong tone. Coming in off a hike I have my Stanley with water and she barks at me - you can't bring that in here! Ok. You always want to love the tradition of the cotton bottom, however the service is always so so bad.

I love how this dive bar is at the base of BCC. It is perfect for apres after skiing in the winter or a refuel station after a long hike in the warmer months. Besides a brief burger and hot dog menu, TCB offers beer on draft, a can/bottle selection, cocktails and wine. When you get tired of talking to your family or friends, there are tvs inside to compliment a centerpiece pool table as well as a patio that provides live music when it's warm. They keep the tables moving by checking in frequently, so don't take it the wrong way when asked if you want the check. I could see TCB become my new hangout spot when coming out of the canyons! read more

Unless I'm mistaken, when I used to come to the Cotton Bottom, the patties were handmade with real chopped up cloves of garlic embedded in the meat - grilled - then put on a wonderful hoagie bun with lettuce and onions and cheese, served with potato chips. I moved out of state several years ago, and every time I come back to Utah, I crave a Cotton Bottom garlic burger. So today, I gave into my inner Garlic lover and went to the Cotton Bottom for lunch. A beautiful spring day sunny music was great. Everything was perfect. I have to admit the burger was pretty good, but in looking at the meat patty, I couldn't see any garlic. I tasted it, but I couldn't see it. So I finished my burger and the fries, which is now on the menu as an up charge from the chips, and a beer. Yeah, with tip it's a very expensive lunch. But I was satisfied with the flavor of the burger and the fries were great. When I passed by the kitchen on my way out the back exit, I asked the cook, how many cloves of garlic do you put in each burger patty? He and said "none", it's garlic powder and a garlic aïoli that they put on the bun to give the garlic flavor. Wait... What??!! That's like having strawberry shortcake and instead of strawberries, you get jam! I was totally deflated. I don't know when things changed, but it's just not the same as having pieces of raw garlic grilled into the patty that's in that bun that I love. At least like I remember. Who knows, maybe my old age has betrayed me and my memories of raw garlic are just in my fantasies. Is it wrong though to want to fulfill your fantasy? Growing up in this area, Cotton Bottom was always the best for a neighborhood bar and great garlic burgers, especially after a day of skiing or hiking. Bikers were always part of the scene adding to the nuance of the place. When they added the tables out front for a family atmosphere I thought how fabulous! Ive always preferred the the back area or inside. A little something for everyone. My adult children and I met there tonight knowing that families with younger children would be out front, we prefer the back. After being told "oh, it's too hot"... and many more excuses, our only option was to sit out front looking at the intersection with all the children. I've been wanting to try Cotton Bottom for so long and am very happy I finally did. It completely fits the stereotypical dive bar vibes but what helps them stand out is the staff. Our waitress was so welcoming and sweet she sat down at the table and basically because apart do the friend group and we felt apart of the Cotton Bottom Family. The Garlic Burger was served on hogue style bread and comes with chips on the side which I thought added a nice touch and when they say basket of fries they mean BASKET!!! A few years back new investors came in and redesigned and invigorated this long-time hamburger/beer dive in Holladay. They have committed to holding on to many of the old elements. Their signature is a Garlic Burger, which is a solid tribute to the bygone profile of the 'Bottom. Times change...and prices have raced forward. Great dive bar especially after a day of skiing in the winter months. In addition to that, in the warmer weather seasons they have outdoor seating that is dog friendly. Parking can be a bit tight in the parking lot but there's some additional parking near the park. Service isn't bad but it's a dive bar. Food is great and I love the garlic burger but wow, if you decide to swap chips out for fries there's a surcharge which is a bit steep. It's a tad pricey for a lunch in my opinion or a ski apres. With that said, I'll still go back as I enjoy sitting in the summer outside with friends and my dog for a beer and a burger. read more

I finally tried the infamous Cotton Bottom garlic burger! The burgers are not like any other burger you've had. The "bun" is French bread style, the burger is smashed and heaping, and the garlic is surprisingly subtle. This place is a dive, so don't go expecting the red carpet rollout. But if you're okay with no frills & a very simple menu, than you'll love The Cottom Bottom. The staff was a bit rough-around-the-edges but that didn't bother us. The prices seem a bit steep for such a simple menu but the burgers are very filling so ultimately you're getting the bang for your buck. As an Utah classic, I feel like everyone should try The Cotton Bottom at least once. It's a right of passage! read more

Visiting from out of town, my friends said we had to go to this place and it did not disappoint! The single garlic burger was huge and shaped like a sub. We also had a basket of fries, which were cooked to perfection. The fry sauce topped it all off! The only reason for not giving it five stars is that the hostess tried to sit us out back, but we really preferred the front. We were early and it was not crowded. There is parking adjacent to it and it is outside seating. Today was a beautiful day out so it made for a nice meal. The menu is simple but offers everything you need from a delicious burgers to a good brew. I opted for the double garlic burger with a side order of fries, or if you choose not to have fries you get a bag of chips. I also went for an ice cold Coke. My order was promptly taken when I arrived, and my food was made fresh to order and ready in about 15 minutes. The size of my burger upon receiving it, I was amazed. It resembled what many would think is a hamburger sub. The garlic flavor, the juiciness of the burger and the crispy fries all made for a perfect meal. I had forgotten how much I love this place. It's a local hideaway tavern in Holladay along Big Cottonwood Creek and has been there since 1952. The granddaughter of the original owner runs the place now. She recognized me and I had not been in for a while and I appreciate the personalized service. Locals know about the garlic burger as it has a reputation throughout the south valley. Great burger, nice hideaway hangout; meet friends old and new. Play pool or watch sports on TV or just hang out on the shaded patio. Bartender Bryan does a great job and Stacy the 30 year manager is very friendly and helpful. It was just ok. I ordered a BLT which was a lot of bread, shredded lettuce, a few slices of tomato and bacon that was a premade box stuff found in the isles at Smiths. Cardinal sin to a BLT. We ordered $5 side of fries and they were not very hot and sent them back. By the time we completed our lunch- easy to do when leaving a slice and half of bread behind, the fries came , a little too late. I have loved this place for years, even bought a hat.
