Oh no!!!! Do restaurants ever take out restraining orders on folks? If so, Suncafe may seriously need one against me! I'm not sure how im going to stay away? I've only been gone around 30minutes and I've made plans to bring my Dad and my boyfriend here. Hopefully on separate occasions so I can try as much of their ridiculously awesome menu as my tummy can handle. How have I not known about this sweet haven tucked away off of Ventura Blvd in the valley? More importantly, so thankful that I'm no longer in the dark. This place is light! I stopped in with my son for a quick bite, ordered the lettuce tacos. They were so fresh, crisp, cool and fulfilling. Sure, I've had soyrizo the past two days in a row but that didn't stop me. These my friends are solid!!! I've been trying my best to cut dairy and gluten but you still get those pesky carbs, if you don't need them for a workout then order these! I also brought a key lime pie slice home for dessert, while I told myself I'd have it in a couple hours it only managed to make it a few miles home because I placed it in the trunk. The most delish key lime pie ever! Vegan, raw, gluten free at its best! Tasty AF!!!!!!!! Really looking forward to returning and so glad Suncafe is close by and servin' up buckwheat pancakes during brunch on weekends, a bit closer than driving to Cafe Gratitude. This place caught our eye as a delicious vegetarian eatery while in Los Angeles. While there was enough seating within there just wasn't enough parking outside. We waited for 15 minutes for someone to leave and finally parked several blocks away to walk here. The inside was way too noisy and we were seated in a tiny room with previously "sauced" patrons. Once we were seated and ordered our food we waited 45 minutes for it to be brought out to us. Once it was delivered we found the order was wrong. SunCafe where have you been all my life? I've driven past this area easily a thousand times and never once noticed this cafe tucked behind a small parking lot located off Ventura Blvd. The menu is just ideal for anyone but a dream for us vegetarians. From Shepard's Pie to salads and sandwiches there was so much to chose from. I had a bowl of soup which was split pea and a plant based meat of some sort. Absolutely delicious. I then ordered the SunCafe salad with bacon (also tempeh based) and it was perfect. The setting is chill and the staff very attentive with plenty of seating inside and out. I will return often I assure you. Plenty of street parking and as mentioned, they also have a small lot in front. read more

I wish there were more places like this in LA! I lived in the SF Bay Area for a number of years which, if you've spent any time there you know is a foodies paradise! It seems like most of the vegan restaurants in LA are burgers and fast food. I like SunCafe because they have healthy, whole-foods and also some guilty pleasures. The prices a little high for what it is, in my opinion. I haven't liked everything I've tried but love items like the roasted poblano gnocchi, the lettuce leaf tacos, raw lasagna... ok, now I'm hungry. This place is delish. 4/5 stars because of the pricing, and some of the dishes I've tried that wasn't a fan of. Some things on the menu are GREAT - the "chicken" pot pie is awesome, the lasagna is great. Some things are not so good (don't get the nachos, and DEFINITELY don't get them with Yuca, it's terrible). Either way, it's gonna be very expensive. Basically there's a range of stuff from bad to amazing. Also, the last time I got take out there the cashier was not wearing her mask. If you DO Runyon , Get there KALE Smoothie! By far the best place to go to after a long Runyon hike in the sun! I can't express more to anyone than getting their highly addictive and highly craved KALE Smoothie / Drink etc. It runs you an easy $7 here and by far will be your favorite routine go-to if you live on the valley side of Runyon. If you park on the valley side as you come down the hill to Ventura, grab a spot on the street or call it in at the end of your hike. It's okay food. Very expensive for food! $18 for French toast and it had a red onion in it. Disgusting!! didn't order anything with onions. Plus the French toast doesn't come with bacon or eggs. This is what I get for writing reviews while hungry, I seriously went off to fantasy land in my head where it was just me and like five of those Florentines... Open-faced whole wheat bread topped with tempeh bacon, spinach, tomatoes and hollandaise sauce, served with rosemary potatoes and fresh fruit.... Ahhgggggg it was sooooooo good. The restaurant itself is bliss, quiet yet active ambiance with a lot of natural light and wood surfaces for that nature vibe. Cool patio, friendly servers. Fresh juices and smoothies. This place knows what it's doing, and the longer I look over the menu of all the other deliciousness they have I feel that next Valley trip coming closer and closer. I have been experiencing a lot of new things lately, one of the better experiences of late have been my regular visits to SunCafe. Whenever we can, the boyfriend, his daughter and I make it over to this cute little Cafe off the 101 and basically go crazy on some DELICIOUS raw and vegan cuisine. That's right, I said it - DELICIOUS - I even used all caps. First, the smoothies. See, I'm lactose intolerant, and smoothies, sadly, are a thing of the past. And every time I've tried imitation smoothies, I have been horribly disappointed. Well, SunCafe doesn't make imitation smoothies, they make great ones. The Strawberry Superfood is my fave so far. I will order a smoothie upon every visit and laugh in the face of my intolerance - 'You thought you could deny me smoothies didn't you? HAHA! I have conquered!!" My favorite two plates are: The Mezze Plate and the Lettuce Leaf Tacos. I don't know what they do to make that chorizo inspired goodness for the filling, but those tacos haunt my dreams at night. In 2007, I became a raw vegan for two years. During that time, many raw vegan restaurants, including SunCafe Organic, appeared on my radar. Shame on me for waiting 8 years to finally check this place out! The parking lot is extremely small but we lucked out with the last available spot during brunch. When we left, it looked like the parking situation switched to valet. This place is not your typical hippie vegan restaurant. The atmosphere is very modern, clean, and very bright. The perfect setting for catching up with my gal pals. The menu has a mix of raw and cooked dishes, all vegan. We pretty much decided to order a bunch of stuff and split everything. Which is the best way to have lunch with longtime childhood friends :) However, when I took my first bite of the Biscuits & Gravy, I kinda admit, I didn't want to share. Very cool that everything here is vegan and that they had CBD-infused smoothies. I tried the CBD-infused shamrock shake and it tasted like a mint chocolate milkshake...yum! I didn't taste the CBD (good!), but I also couldn't feel any relaxing effects? The portion size of the smoothie was too big for my liking. I wish they offered a smaller size. I chose to sit outside and get some work done because it was a great day. The servers were also very nice and really attentive. However, the food wasn't as great as I expected it to be. I had the Double Stuffed Spicy Quesadilla. The quesadilla was not spicy at all aside from the one slice of jalapeno that was in it. The flavors were also kind of a mess. It seemed like everything didn't really blend together quite right. I also felt as though the tortilla was a bit dry. Also, the prices here are quite high. I understand that they use high quality ingredients, but $14 for two pieces of a quesadilla that didn't even fill me up is a bit ridiculous. read more

Love that I could book a reservation for SunCafe on Yelp! SunCafe really makes eating plant-based yummy for plant-based and non-plant-based eaters alike! Came at noon on a Sunday, and still able to get a table for 5 people. With options to sit inside or outside, sitting outside would be perfect on a nice day with organic and comfortable seats. As for the service, servers were attentive, but food took a bit to come out. Moving onto the food, the main highlight of our meal was the White Truffle Oil Pizza - so flavorful, crunchy thin crust, perfectly cooked vegetables, it was devoured as soon as it hit the table. Other things we enjoyed were the Raw Burger (but with a regular bun) and the Colossal Kale Salad. The patty of the raw burger had a great "meaty-ish" texture, and the slightest tinge of sweetness. Creamy avocado accompanied it - but would have done better with a slice of tomato to assist the slight dryness. Colossal Kale salad was accompanied with crunchy tempeh (yum!) and slight sweetness of dried fruits, chopped tomatoes, creamy dressing. So-so dishes were the All American Skillet and the Belgian Waffle. Parking lot here is rather small, so we ended up grabbing street parking though there is a lot across the street for Hollywood Bowl overflow parking (I believe). read more

Wow. this place came as a total surprise! I am not a vegan and usually wouldn't go to these types of restaurants/cafes. However it was a beautiful Sunday morning and my family had seen ads about this place so we decided to give it a try. We got the Kale smoothie (a whopping $8 for a smoothie, but it turned out to be the largest smoothie and best smoothie I have ever had. a great $8 spent). This Kale smoothie was decadent, creamy, fresh, tasty, and healthy!!! We also got the kale salad...It was beautiful and the portion was pretty generous. Some of the best organic, vegan food I have ever had and I am a bonafide best eater. The tacos were made with some form of soyrizo called SunRizo which was quite tasty, I mean it wasn't street taco delicious but obviously way healthier of the two. The kale smoothie was like drinking health but in a good way. I usually dislike vegan cheese or dairy substitutes but they managed to get good flavor and consistency in the nachos, with the added fresh jalapeños- it was quite good. My favorite item of the day was bbq cauliflower. Also shares a peach crisp with coconut ice cream, which was a nice way to end the meal. The location is great, the atmosphere lends for a great place to eat and talk, and the service was exceptional.
