This store was pricey. They had the only Carhart working clothes brand that I knew of. They had a good selection of shoes and boots but they still were pricey. You could find quality items in the store if Walmart didn't have it but you had to pay double. One thing this store had that wasn't too pricey, canning supplies. This store is basically a smaller Bimart. Perused the merchandise which was actually a solid stock. Unfortunately I was distracted by the employees following my wife and I around like we were going to steal something. Every time I looked up, there was an employee standing at the end of the aisle staring at us yet not once were we asked if we needed help. When my wife and I split up, another employee ran from across the store to follow her. This is the most overt racism I've ever experienced. read more

I am a long time customer. This is where I go for garden stuff, plant, rakes, shovels, seed. It's also where I go for socks, and work clothes and rain gear. Fishing gear. Camping. Ammunition. Boots or sneakers. Plumbing bits, or electrical repair items. Dog food or a bird feeder. So many useful items. It serves the community of Yelm very well. I especially enjoy the garden expertise when I have a question. Friendly, local, and well informed sales people. And great free popcorn. read more

SunBird sells guns (pistols and rifles), ammo, fish/hunt licensing, tools, hardware, camping gear, fishing tackle, clothing, boots/shoes, canning accessories, toys and household items. This store is about the size of an ACE hardware but well stocked and organized. Prices are competitive. The staff are attentive and friendly. Another larger SunBird location is in Chehalis if the Yelm store doesn't have what you're looking for. read more

Sunbird is the quintessential small town store. If my shopping list includes warm pajamas, .30-06 ammo, a replacement light fixture matching my wife's petite design choices, a pack of flux-core welding wire, a toy for my niece's 8th birthday, a foldable hunting blind, a 3/8" socket extension, and FREE warm popcorn and smiles on the way out...this is the place. I love coming here with something that looks like a flux-capacitor from Back to the Future that I need to fix the clothes washer and hearing, "Yup...we got that do-hickey on Aisle 6, up on top, on your right...ya' know...this comes in right-handed and left-handed...come on, I'll take you back there..." If you dislike box-stores like I do... Thank you, G*d, for my Yelm-ini life and Sunbird! PS...if they don't have it here, take a nice drive to Chehalis, to the bigger store. read more

The hunting and fishing area near the back has good equipment and helpful staff. I got my fishing license here. They also sell various hunting licenses, razor clam licenses, seaweed and shellfish licenses and combined licenses. I'm not in Yelm often, but it's a good stop for when I'm in town. They also have free popcorn. read more

Spent 60 bucks on a fishing reel. Gears are all jacked up. I took it back a week later and wanted my money back. Told them it was broke. The old man who I assume was the manager refused to give me back my money. He said nothing was wrong with it and I did not know what I was doing! Completely unacceptable and piss poor customer service. I was planning on dropping more money there to get other things that day. I went to Walmart instead and paid 20% less then I would have there. I try to support local businesses when I can but if I get pissed on then I'll go somewhere else. Dot waist your time with those crooks! They just lost a good once loyal customer! read more

Went into Sunbirds for their Coupon sale today. I grab my share of items I needed plus a selected amount of items on sale. Got up to the checkout stand to find out that I picked the wrong mud boots. Apparently I picked the steel toe vs the non steel toe. The price difference?? $2.00... That's it!! Manager "Kevin" said he wouldn't override the price... Now, if I read it wrong I would've totally understood but i don't think so... I think they are to blame. So, I walked out without making a purchase and they lost my business for life. They have almost anything you'd want during the season in which your shopping for. Christmas (yeah Christmas not "holiday) lights during that time of year along with nice boots and warm clothing especially carhartt. Only thing I don't like is a few of the older ladys that work there. They just seem like they need to retire and relax instead of working retail. It's not difficult to point out someone who doesn't like their job. Rather it be their home life or just the job itself that's making it difficult for them to provide excellent customer service, they just seem like they don't wanna be there and i felt almost afraid to approach them multiple occasions. Other then that this place is pretty cool. If your not a high roller who shops at cabelas this place is for you. read more

I like this store! I can get everything I need here, from ammo to licenses, from shoes to fish bait. They have Carrhart clothes and a good sporting goods dept. as well. The guys in sports always have the latest fishing gossip and they know what lures are working and where. They have a great selection of Georgia boots. I buy all my shoes here. There's a big popcorn popper by the checkout and I just can't resist. read more

I have lived in this area and shopped at Sunbirds for over 20 years. Yes, they are over priced but we like to buy our boots, work clothes and gardening supplies there. Today was the last day I will ever set foot in that store, they have lost my business for good. A few months ago I spent a few hundred dollars there doing some early Christmas shopping. I was assured that they extend their return window as they understand people shop early. Today I returned a pair of slippers that did not fit. Brand new, in original box, tags attached, had receipt. I told them they did not fit and were a Christmas present. They refused to refund or offer a store discount. They said because I purchased them over 30 days ago, and that was that. I explained about doing Christmas shopping and being told I could return. Didn't matter. Mind you, these were ten dollar slippers!! Hope you're happy Sunbirds, we have spent thousands in your store on work boots, hunting and fishing gear and other high priced items. You have lost a family of shoppers over ten bucks. Not the home town customer service I expected. It's not about the ten bucks, obviously. Will never spend one cent there again. read more

Sunbird: attitude of staff is awful; grumpy, unfriendly, non helpful and no customer service. I have shopped at Sunbirds for 12 years. Today was the last time I walk into their store. I bought a pair of Muck low rise shoes for my husband. He wore them around the house and determined they weren't the right fit. I went to Sunbird (30 mile round trip) to return shoes with receipt in hand. I was asked by the manager of the store: Where is the box the shoes came in? My answer: thrown away. At that point the manager replied: "Without the box I can't accept the shoes or credit your account." No where on the receipt does it say must be returned in the box. So now I am stuck with shoes that do not fit my husband. Thanks Sunbird. You have forever lost my business. read more

Its a pretty decent store; they have a little bit of everything. The hunting and fishing selection is quite good, and they have a lot of great hiking/work shoes. But I have yet to find clothing there that fits me- all women's sizes are medium and up in their higher quality clothes. Not a big deal, just not somewhere I'd get my Carhartt's from. read more

Have been shopping this store for years for a variety of items. Recently my husband purchased a pair of steel toe workboots (which he has done for years) he brought them home, wore them around the house. Since the boots felt good he put a waterproof cream on them. He wore them to work and only made it a half a day before the steel toe started to pinch his foot when he bent down. There was a defect in the boot and when we tried to return them the "manager" wouldn't even listen to our reasoning for bringing the boot back. When we explained that we didn't want a refund but to instead exchange for another boot brand she simply told us "to go home,, there's nothing we can do for you". And when he went back inside to ask for another manager she then said "Im the top of the food chain". Piss poor customer service and to be honest we wont be back to purchase anything from them EVER! We didn't get her name, but there cant be many managers at that small store. She shouldn't be working with customers at all. Do yourself a favor don't buy shoes there at all. read more

They have selections that are good. I try to avoid shopping here for Christmas as they will not give cash back when the person that bought the gift paid with a debit card. You have in store credit or it will go back on the purchasers card in 3 to 5 days. That's bull. There's no other store that doesn't give you cash back on a debit card purchase. read more
