There is a good variety of prices and qualities for many of the same thing from pro-grade to Saturday warrior like me. I need a reciprocating saw once or twice a year. In the past, I rented. Figuring the cost of that and that I could get an entry level model for the price of one rent, I went to Harbor Freight. Every time we have gone to Harbor Freight we have received the help we needed. One time we were tracking down bolts of a particular size and length. An employee helped us figure out where to look and when we discovered the store didn't have what we needed, suggested a different store where we might find the parts we needed! I love that. This Harbor Freight delays the checkout line with membership info updates and very slow checkouts regardless of the line. Then asks about coupons, etc. Had to tell them No 3 times yesterday about inside track membership. Clerk used personal cell phone Calc twice to try and sell me on it. It's a simple rule. Anything other than checkout when there are lines.. Ask them to step aside and wait for help from someone else.. Delaying waiting customers is very rude. I frequent this business a lot, in order to get the tools for my garage stuff at a decent price. A typical hardware store, so don't expect all is in order there, it has it's system, but if you are new, it can take you some time to get used to the index and inventory selection. The prices are competitive and the quality of the merchandise is decent. Their specials can be very enticing to actually buy more than you intended to. But if you don't watch it, you can fall in to the cheap trap and get tools not even worth the money you just did spend. Cheap Chinese tool mecca. I've experienced hit or miss as far as quality goes but its easy to drop hundred bucks in this place. Prices are pretty low but check the quality before you buy. Read product reviews online. Sometimes I like going just to browse around and imagine all of the possibilities their large selection of tools and gadgets may hold. On any given day I can walk in there and see ten guys that look just like my father in law. Guys that are always workin' on, fixin' or modifyin' some shit. I always associate this place with cheap tools but I can't re,member the last time I had one of those tools break on me. Always good prices and plenty of assortment to choose from. I've bought plenty of extra large sockets and hydraulic jacks and everything works great. They do have some of the cheaper flashlights and things that are just through away, but they have so much you can not find in other stores. Well worth a visit if you have never been there. read more

Never Again. I've been doing business with Harbor Freight for years. Every time I buy something they ask me for a phone number so the product is related to purchase. Well that was great right until I tried to return something. The lady looked up my number and said the kit I bought wasn't listed. She tried to tell me the hole saw kit I bought was bought over 90 days ago. I just bought the kit within the last two to three weeks. She said well you must not have given a phone number when you checked out. I'm thinking are you nuts? Everybody who checks you out practically insists on phone number when you check out. She said she couldn't do anything about it and gave me a look like she didn't care. So I told her never mind, just keep the worthless thing and walked out. Never again. I will spend the extra money on better product from here on out. read more

Every Power tool that I have bought from them I have had returned within at least two weeks because they have stopped working or broke under normal working condition. I replaced the foreign a half inch grinder three times and have the fourth one ready to take back. The belt sander that I just purchased is also now broken.
