I have never been so impressed with a tanning salon. I used to tan at my local gym and then I started a membership at Palm Beach. I highly regret not coming to Sunsplash when I first started tanning. Upon walking in, the girls are extremely nice and they taught me so many things that other places had not taken the time to explain to me. They are extremely knowledgable about the different types of beds, lotions, and how to achieve the tan you are looking to achieve. The new Norvell spray tanning machine also made me look like a tanned goddess for my formal dance! In Woodbridge for a few weeks for work and decided to find a tanning salon. I called numerous salons near my hotel and decided to go with this one due to the type of beds they claimed to have and the 3 level 3 bed visits to include a free visit. Of course I had no clue how bad the traffic would be to get back to Woodbridge but quickly figured that out after the first visit. Well, the 1 star I am giving is for a couple reasons. 1. the beds are not that great for the price and 2 I was told that they would not honor the free visit I was promised because it was a new employee that made the promise (it does not apply to that package). I've been coming to this place for almost 10 years and LOVED (past tense) it BUT I was charged twice for my monthly membership. I mentioned it to the girl at the front desk (usually different ones) every time I came in. They told me there was a note on my file and they'd call the manager to come in and fix it. It's been a over month and still nothing.... it's extremely frustrating coming from a place I've been spending my money for years. UPDATE: the manager told one of the girls he just wouldn't charge me for August to even it out. I was charged for August. I've cancelled my membership and I'M STILL WAITING FOR MY REFUND FROM JUNE. To be candid, Sometimes my experience is hit or miss. On occasion I've had to ask for the machine to be wiped down (don't worry - I ask politely). Sometimes they're out of barrier cream or the machine doesn't work for the spray tan level you want. The price is good, the atmosphere is quiet, this I like. The owner is great and funny, and I absolutely love the one receptionist. I'm not sure what her name is, her ethnicity appears to be Asian and she's quite tall and of course...tan. She is phenomenal. Sometimes I wish I could say the same about the others, at times they're quite uppity or almost as if having a job is the worst thing that has ever happened to them... If you live in the Burke/Fairfax Station area, Sun Splash is a convenient location. HIGHS: minimal wait time, location (I don't know of any other tanning salons in Burke), nice front desk staff, clean facility, sometimes coupons are sent in the mail LOWS: The parking in the shopping center is awful! Sun Splash is located next to Golds Gym. Finding parking in the afternoon, evening, or weekend can be a challenge. Also, Sun Splash does not offer spray tanning. Finally, I don't feel that the beds are as strong as some other tanning locations. read more

I started coming to Sun Splash about a year ago to get a little sun on my paste-y, winter-y body. The girls here are always friendly, very knowledgeable about the lotions, and are quick to take payment and clean the beds. The place is very sanitary and I've never been grossed out by anything in the rooms (unlike other places). Gold's Gym is in the same complex and I think you get a discount at Sun Splash if you're a member. The 30 day unlimited package for the level 1 beds is $49. To upgrade is an extra $3 or so. With the gym being so close, this place can definitely get crowded so don't come during peak hours if you can help it. read more

I've been going to the same tanning salon for ~6 years, but needed a more convenient location. This was the only tanning salon around that was convenient for me, so I joined. I've always been nervous to try somewhere new bc I have a few times and usually the girls are really snobby. Everyone here so far has been super friendly and nice- not intimidating at all. The beds are clean and I was actually surprised at how cheap the packages are. Cons: The place isn't the fanciest, but I am not here for their decoration, so I do not care. I'm also used to higher level/newer beds, so this is a change for me, but the price is so cheap, I (again) don't care. The place is clean and it's relatively cheap for an unlimited membership. With that being said, after having a membership for a few months I had asked them to cancel it so that I wouldn't be charged for September since I was moving. It turns out I ended up being charged for September so I called the place and spoke with the manager. He had told me they must've made a mistake and that he would refund me right away. I check my bank account the next morning and instead of refunding me, I was charged AGAIN. My mom has been in there 2 times in the last 4 days trying to get in contact with the manager but I've still heard nothing and now I'm out $60 from this place when I shouldn't have been charged at all. Due to this situation and the fact that I still haven't heard from the manager (extremely shady and unprofessional), I wouldn't trust this place having my credit card n if I were you. This was my first time at Sun Splash Tans and I had a overall great experience. They charge $30 for the VersaPro sunless tanning which is very cheap compared to local competitors charging $40+. A downside is they only have the sunless tanning and sun beds, but not the airbrush tans. The workers are very friendly and helped me with any questions or concerns I had. At the front desk, they even have free little stickers you can stick on before tanning. The tanning process was very easy, you first placed on a head cap and put on lotion around places like your elbows and hands. Once you click start on the machine a automated voice tells you where to position your body as well as there is a big picture right next to you. The tan lasts for a long time and I am surely planning on returning. This place is very good if you don't want to lay out in the sun all day, but want to get a tan a couple times a month without ruining your bank account. read more

okay, my review, i must be honest, is going to be a little bit biased. why? because i worked at a tanning salon for almost 2 years. i recently quit because i was commuting 45 minutes one way to make really bad pay. anyways, i felt myself falling into the SAD slump and i needed to start tanning again, ASAP because i really couldnt stand it anymore. i had two options. hollywood tans, where i would rather take a stapler to my face because they use terrible lotions, are overrated and over priced or another place called jungle tan that i had passed a couple times. well, a friend suggested sun splash. so there is a third option. sun splash is closest to my current address, and very well priced. they have student rates. there are 4 levels of beds. 1- is your normal 20 min, no face tanner. i cant sit still for more than 10 minutes. nexxxt 2-is a 15 min, 2 face tanners. not for me. 3-12 min, 3 face tanners. BINGO 4-12 min (i think or 10?) stand up. eh, eh. ill throw that in a few times to avoid the pale underarms and pressure points (tanning lingo, sorry). i was happy to see that they use California Tan products, as that is what my previous salon uses. they are among the best tanning products in the country. (they use them on sunset tan if that gives you an idea). I was disappointed in the selection. they only have a few step ones of one lotion and step twos of another. weird. many of the products are among the lower end of Cal Tan but probably because college students cant afford much more than $30/lotion (man, i was spoiled with my discount!). i am giving it 4 stars because it is a smaller mom and pop shop with a few other locations, it is VeRY clean, it is relaxing, and the girls i have met have been really nice. i enjoyed the level 3 bed as well, although i wish it fully closed. the girls do need a little more lotion knowledge, i had talked to one about lotions and she sort of looked at me. ::sigh:: that was my favorite part. read more

I liked this tanning salon. I dont tan often but I was looking for some place to go to that wasnt going to cost me $25 for a 12 minute session. I found this place. The staff is friendly and the beds are decent. The PRICE- let me not forget is fantastic. You have 3 or 4 bed options to choice from and then spray tan options. I paid $11 for the 12 minute bed that I believe was the second to top bed they have. They also offer package deals for 3-5 uses or monthly use. When tanning you'll have the option to face tan or not. They have a radio connected to the bed and you also have an ipod player to use too. I was a little confused on how to use the fan but I guess I didnt listen well enough the first time. I thought the knob next to the radio worked the radio but nope it controls the fan- FYI. The rooms are small and cute. They have plenty of tan lotions in the front to chose from. I really enjoy the friendliness of the girls working the front desk and the cleanliness of the facility, however I often come on Saturday mornings at 9am when their hours list they open and there have been many of times when no employee has shown up on time to open the building! Im giving it 2 stars because the girl at the front desk was really nice and the price is super cheap (for the lowest bed). I came in and was going to sign up for the unlimited month but wanted to take a look at the beds. When I saw the beds they had I couldn't tell the difference between the lowest level bed and the highest level bed. The look didn't appeal to me at the Fairfax Station location but the girl told me the Centreville location has more bed options. Maybe they should upgrade this location. Not sure if the beds are actually good or not because I just left and didn't sign up and tried Boxcar tanning instead. Not a good first impression :-/ read more

I have been going to this salon for like ten years and it has been convenient, friendly and reasonably priced. Recently, last two times, there was a problem, the radio doesnt work (yes I am probably the last person on the planet that doesnt bring my own device) and the face bronzer didnt work. Usually there are staff that are great there but recently, maybe because it is summer, has really gone down hill. The machines, particularly the Saturn, are great as are their prices. The reason it gets two starts is that the staff on the weekends are consistently late. The store is supposed to open at 9am yet every other visit the staff role in at 9:15, 9:30, etc....currently 9:25 and the store still isn't open. Yes, it means they have a limited number of beds but they also have better prices and friendlier people.
