This company is terrible!!! When you try to contact them to solve your solar panel issue, you can only wait to be transferred -- but you'll never actually get connected. You just keep waiting for a response that will never come. Don't expect anything, because you'll be waiting forever -- you'll never get a reply. They'll tell you, "We're fully booked, but we'll do our best to schedule an appointment for you," and then they'll just disappear! WTH! If you hire them to install your system, congratulations -- this is the kind of "service" you'll be getting. read more

After almost 1 full year my panels are finally operational by 9/2023. My panels broke on 10/2022. Sunpower and Novasource , their repair service, are horrible. Sunpower will give you the run around. I have had sunpower for several months now and the panels have been not been fully operational since inception. My coordinator continually informs me that they're looking to have someone come out again but no definitive timelines have been given. I am now not only paying for the loan but for usuals of the grid. I would not recommend sunpower to anyone currently. If I do not see remediation shortly I will seeking litigation. read more

Edited on 3/26/24 Since my original review, Sun Solar has reached out for a review of my roof/panel issue. It turns out it's not related to my panel installation and due to weather conditions (so relieved). They were very helpful in suggesting alternatives that could help stop the leak problem and have been in contact with me on how to reach them in the future should I have any problems. I very much appreciate the response and effort to keep in touch if I ever need service again. Original review: I have been requesting service help with my panels and roof for several weeks now. Hi - I wanted to update my previous posting about the difficulties we were having connecting with the Sun Power team. Within an hour of posting my review on Yelp, we received a phone call from Aaron. We talked through the performance issues we were having and he understood the issue very quickly. Within days, he sent a service technician to the house where he was able to confirm the issue we were having - malfunctioning optimizers on 3 of our 23 panels. The parts have been ordered & Aaron has confirmed as soon as they get them, they'll be out to install them. Thank you Aaron - you've started the process to turn this situation around ! Here's what we learned in this process: 1. Set yourself up on a regular schedule to review the Solar Edge app. It will show you if one (or more) of the panels are not functioning at the same level as the others. We review the app every month when the SDG&E bill comes. 2. Even with solar, it does matter when you run things in your house. SDG&E has gotten smart about working around the net metering program. The highest cost time of day for service is 4-9pm. We set up as many things to run after those hours as we can (dishwasher, pool filter, etc). 3. Schedule your panels to be cleaned once a year. Aaron provided some recommended vendors to do this. We'll update this again when we're done, done, done ! Hope this is helpful to others. Honestly I'm in the same situation as many of the other reviewers on this listing. Our initial installation - and first 5 years of operation - were exemplary. Earlier this year, I started noticing through the SDG&E bill, and then the online monitoring system "Solar Edge" that 2 of our 23 panels were not generating any power at all. A 3rd panel was only generating partial power. I reached out to Solar Edge and they ran a diagnostic on the system and told me that in fact there was a problem with all 3 panels and that my next step was to contact the original installer - SunPower by Sun Solar. So far, so good, right ? Nope. For the past 8+ weeks I have been trying to get ahold of someone - anyone other than the poor people answering the phone - to get on the repair schedule. I have left my name, phone number & email address so many times I can't count. I had a glimmer of hope about 3 weeks ago when I was told our case was assigned to Alex. The receptionist even provided Alex's cell number. I then started contacting him. Nice enough guy but as of today, no luck connecting on a repair date - meanwhile the SDG&E bill continues to grow. Does anyone have any ideas on next steps ? I'm more than wondering why the panels have such a great warranty when I need to use the warranty, I can't even connect with a human being to help fix the broken parts of the system. A few Years back I noticed this Really Nice Truck in the Neighborhood Advertising SOLAR I Introduced myself to the guy SKIP and got a Few Business Cards - Over the Years I had Referred SKIP to several people ALL of whom said he did an Excellent Job ! Well today I got to see it with my own eyes. The Church Solar System hadn't been working and they called two other Companies who never came out - I said "hold the phone" I know who to call - SKIP came out, found a Disconnect Switch in the OFF Position, Turned it ON, and the System was Up and Running ! He stayed and went through the ENTIRE SYSTEM to make sure it was all working Properly, and even showed us the Magic Moment when the Electric Meter was going Backwards ! My last rep informed she can't call me because she has no access to phone. 3 stars because I feel like the product was good. Mini 2 stars because once I got the solar system installed, it was like pulling teeth to get responses or follow ups. I'm super disappointed. Prob would've had better luck with a major company, but wanted to give my business to a local store. I find it hard to believe I have to chance down my promises instead of them just following up with me in what I was promised. If you're looking to hire them, do so with the expectation that they'll forget about you once they complete the install. But the work is amazing thus far. read more

I recently wrote a scathing negative review of SunPower by Sun Solar and I need change my 1 star review to a 5 star. First off, I would like to apologize to Aaron for not understanding where my complaint should have been directed. My panels were installed by Sullivan through SunPower Direct and my negative experience was due to the outsourced customer service of SunPower Direct. Aaron saw my review and called me within 20minutes of me posting my original negative review last Friday evening. He graciously came to my house on Monday to review the troubles and was able to help resolve the issue for a small nominal fee. I have to share that overall I am happy with my panels and their performance. I was unhappy that I was never notified that panels stopped working (I need to review my electric bill monthly going forward or review the SunPower app) and that 6 months passed where I racked up a substantial electric bill at the end of the year. That being said, I would purchase this system again AND recommend it had I only dealt with Aaron and his company. Quality product, EXCELLENT support from my local SunPower dealer (I wish I would have used them for the install) - just terrible customer service from SunPower Direct (manufacturer). I will gladly recommend all future business to Sun Solar because of this experience. Thank you!! read more

We leased panels from this company and their customer care is atrocious. A lot of their unresponsiveness they blame on covid. Let's just say this is the second time we've had an issue with our system and it takes WEEKS to get someone out to look at it. Also I thought the point of the lease is that they monitor the system. Oh no! The high utility bills are how you know the system is not functioning. If you're looking to do solar go to a different company!! read more

If I could give a lower score I would. I recently bought a townhome with their products. They never did what they are supposed to do and send the paperwork to SCE for connection agreements in 2018-19. Now it's 2023 and I have to wait 10-16 weeks WEEKS for solar power. It will probably longer because after weeks of phone calls and talking to people who are not knowledgeable to field questions related to their company they filled out paperwork incorrectly, which now sets back the process even farther. The music that they play while they place you on hold will kill your soul because you have to listen to it so much it's no longer enjoyable it's just more aggravating, so save yourself and find a different company. read more

commitments made & not kept - limited effort to complete the install after the upfront payment was made - incomplete job, would not have been finished had we not noticed piles of tiles on the roof - installers messy did not clean up after themselves - had to manage a lot of proactive communication to get s@#t done. overall, not a good experience and when all said and done it took nearly 8 months vs. 3-4 for final completion!!! read more

After interviewing 5 solar companies, I decided to go with Sun power by Sun solar. I spoke with Todd on a video call, and he was very informative, able to answer all my questions, and not at all high pressure. He explained to me all of the benefits of solar power, why his solar panels were one of the best in all of the industry, and how they would be of service to me before during and after installation. He also recommended a roofing company that he has worked with over the years because I needed to replace my 24 year old toof and the roofing company he recommended turned out to be one of the most reasonable bids I received so I went with his recommendation. It turned out that the roofing company did an excellent job and worked throughout the roofing installation with Sun solar who had to send Guys out during certain stages of the roofing installation. After the roof was install, Sun solar Send their crew out to install the 21 solar panels. Their crew completed the job in less than 5 hours and were very professional and knew what they were doing. Cesar, the electrician, was phenomenal As he install 2 electrical boxes and conduit perfectly. Many thanks to James, who coordinated all of the installation process with me. Sun solar Company is a great company to do business with and I highly recommend using them over any other solar company. Their panels are extremely efficient, have a very low degradation rate, and are very reasonably priced. All of the components of the system are supplied by sunpower which very few companies can say. As most companies obtain their parts from various suppliers. If your thinking about going solar, call Todd And ask any questions you may have as he will accommodate all of your concerns. This is one of the best companies I have ever worked with. read more

UPDATE ----------- We are finally done! Late May 2022 - Contract Signed Mid June 2022 - SunPower by SunSolar inspector comes by for roofing and electrical measurements. Yet a later review of stamped drawing set shows electrical main in wrong location. Wiring going to places they don't need to go. I made SunPower by SunSolar aware of this upon review and sent photos of actual locations. Late July 2022 - SunPower by SunSolar texts stating equipment should arrive within the next few weeks. Mid August 2022 - Upon request, SunPower by SunSolar texts no shipping update from SunPower Late August 2022 - Upon request, SunPower by SunSolar texts initial equipment ETA early September 2022 Early September 2022 - SunPower by SunSolar texts that SunPower pushed back ship date to Late September 2022 Late September 2022 - Upon request, SunPower by SunSolar texts SunPower still showing late September 2022 but no shipment number confirmed. Early October 2022 - Upon request, SunPower by SunSolar texts SunPower still has not shipped but will reach out to SunPower. Mid October 2022 - Finally, the panels arrive. PM schedules installation day after receipt. Install goes well, however there were some adjustments to installation location due to dimension restrictions, so revised plans had to be resubmitted and reapproved by the counted. Mid November 2022 - Plans are approved and permit pulled. Inspection scheduled early December 2022. Early December 2022 - Appears there was some miscommunication between SunPower by SunSolar representative regarding date of inspection. Representative waited at house for 3 hours the day before actual inspection was to occur. Same representative arranged to meet inspector the following day (actual inspection day) and inspection passed without a problem. A few days later, PTO was submitted to the Utility. A few days after submission, PTO was approved by the utility. All in all, I'm not enthralled with my experience with SunPower by SunSolar. I think they do have a good crew (on the installation and management side), but was definitely annoyed, as their customer, having to wait an extra 17 weeks beyond the projected completion timeline for this array to be installed. Wish them the best as NEM 3.0 comes along. read more

Don't know about their systems but just turned away a very pushy sales guy who came to my door uninvited and tried to bully me into setting up a demo/sales pitch. He was unable to provide any info about the company but wanted my information and a copy of my electric bill and he wanted me to call my husband at work to discuss it with him ... seriously I wouldn't do business with this company even if I were in the market for a system.. As per the company rep reply below ..the guy, who's name I didn't catch was wearing a shirt and carrying an ID badge with the exact logo of SunPower shown above, a number of my neighbors complained about him as well. read more

Exactly what the other bad reviews say. My home builder was contracted with them, so I didn't have a choice of who did the solar panels at the time. There are always technical problems with he invertors so the amount of kilowatts reported to the electrical company is inaccurate. The best thing to happen is when they subcontract different companies to service the panels whom operate like a normal reliable company such as Elite Electric. Recently with another technical problem, I was told I have to use the Sunpower's own technician. It's been over one week, and as a habit I call almost everyday during my drive to work to schedule their technician. Everyday after a 30-40 min wait they tell me scheduling will call me back. It's been a week and a half, and no appointment has been made. I demanded speaking to a manager and after an hour wait, no one came to the phone. All I want is an appointment to fix the solar panels! How can you open a company without basic customer service and appointment making?! read more

Had Sun Solar add Sun Power panels to my existing array with a Tesla Powerwall. Had a few other quotes and checked reviews on Yelp and Angi and they were by far the best price and reputation. Aaron Dabbs was amazing getting me a quote and setup. I didn't have to leave the house nor have a salesperson come over. Everything was done online. Once the contract was signed, the in house customer service rep Sonia Sines did all the paperwork with the City for the permit and So Cal Edison. She was fantastic arranging the installation and inspections. She also was always available to answer any questions that I had and very knowledgeable. Installation took 2 days and the crew arrived on time each day. In fact, they arrived before the appointment and waited outside before ringing the doorbell. A tech was always here for the inspection. Customer service is always the most important aspect contracting service and Sun Solar exceeded my expectations. Thank you Aaron and Sonia. read more

We waited 45 days for someone to come out and get the one inverter of two up and running . No way to know how long it was down i dont get out there and ck it everyday , i really thought it was being monitored??? Back to the service they made it out this week now its back to doing the same thing, Not performing. They cut us a ck for around $16.00 im sure that covered a months loss. Now when you call them your on hold for 20 or more minutes. Only to have them tell you that they cant hear and to call back another time. I give two stars because when the equipment works its great . The salesman was great and the system seemed decent. Their credit approval process and responsiveness is horrible. I waited for three days to get a welcome call. Once I did get the approval call I was happy then I get a email saying I was declined. This is more than an over site. They then told me that they contact the financier and not the client which I found even more suspicious. Very unusual practice of credit application. Be carful with any lender that does not want you to talk to them directly. Would not recommend. They said they have a new process for financing and trust me when I tell you they beta testing that process on consumers. I just purchased a home for 777,000 and they can't finance me for a 220 a month bill that would be substituted for my electric bill. Seems like a no brained answer. With the government and local municipalities up in arms about our electric grid and fires here in California these lenders would be required to help homeowners to help the state and their families. They are more concerned with lining their pockets with your money than helping the consumer. Department of energy is next. I am tired of big business stepping all over the little guy and only pandering to those that are deemed worthy by an unpractical standard of approval for something as essential as electricity. read more

I received my SunPower system once I purchased my home, It worked great for the first year. Now 6 years later I am paying a $4300 annual electric bill! I have called Sunpower customer service to get a technician out but they refused to come out due to them stating everything looks good on their end. Good? Edison stated that my solar panels are not providing enough and I should get them serviced. They are putting me on hold and not getting me to a manager! They do not want to help me but yet they are taking my payments every month. Ron the rep transferred me to Ivan which was the Supervisor but he was worse and was not willing to help me! Do not go with this company for Solar Panels, as they do not care about their customers and I have been a customer for 6 years!!! All I am asking is for a service check as I am paying for the lease? They need to get better customer service or at least act like they care about their customers! Very disappointed and pissed, looking to see how I can go with another Solar company. read more
