We just completed our solar design and install project with Artisan Electric…read more(www.artisanelectricinc.com) It was an outstanding professional experience overall -- smoothly managed, and super pleasant people to work with from the beginning to end. And their follow-up to my subsequent questions has also been excellent. From the first inquiry over the Artisan website (www.artisanelectricinc.com) to the first conversations with the rep about the various system options; and on through the design and layout process with him; on into the site preparation walk-through with the general foreman; and all throughout the install experience with the crew. The crew was always prompt, professional, and managed a clean, well-organized work project space in/around our house, and they were all super pleasant to work with. Strong team! More to the point when we hit an install hiccup -- upon seeing the panels layout on the front street side of our low flat roof and were unhappy with the way it looked (not Artisan's fault but a failure of imagination on our part) -- we deeply appreciated the quick response to my email about it from our Artisan rep and the crew's professional "let's put our heads together and find a solution" mentality. In my experience that's where the rubber really hits the road with any contractor and everyone involved managed an efficient, calm, and solutions-oriented approach in partnership with us that ended up with an even-better solution. We also appreciate a union crew and seeing diverse representation on it. That matters to us -- in addition to high quality, fairly priced work. ;)

I had 58 solar panels installed 10 years ago by Solterra. The installation and maintenance were…read moregreat, 5 stars! Soon after they were installed, though, I called about a storage system and was told my microinverters were not compatible with any storage system, but innovations were coming. I called several times over the years, and again got the same answer. And I requested they contact me when this was available. This year I learned from a different source that a battery storage system could work with my microinverters. So, I called Solterra immediately, in September of this year, to schedule installation before the tax breaks expire, and was told they were too busy. As a customer for so many years, helping Solterra early on in its existence, and with years of storage requests, this was not only bad service for loyal customers but also felt like a betrayal.

Aimee is probably wondering where this review is. Especially since I wrote this 9 months ago. The…read morebottom line is I was waiting for the one year anniversary of our system so I could properly analyze the performance of the system. At one year we produced 14.2(-ish)MWh, from a system that was designed for 12.4(-ish)MWh performance after 25 years. The "overproduction" is also in part due to moving some panels from west to south facing. Running the numbers, it is exactly what should have been produced. The actual consumption was a good bit lower than the design for a couple of reasons. First, we replaced our roof as "part" of the solar installation. This actually reduced our heating and cooling needs, since our attic finally had ventilation. We also added an EV to our home, estimated at 3MWh, but we don't really drive as much as "normal" people. Lastly, Solterra added a Span smart electric panel at our request, and I enjoyed turning off circuits remotely while we were away from home. The bottom line here is that we still have 4.4MWh of excess production. Even knocking 15% off the total at 25 years (higher than the 8% the REC panels specify), we will have over 2MWh to "burn." Looks like we are going to consider replacing the gas stove and tankless hot water heater with electric! Finally, I can't say enough good things about the installation team. Super professional, and worked well with my roofer to route the wiring around the end of the roof and avoid penetrating the roof. We have even had them return to install the EV charging plug.

Last summer, my husband and I set out to compare eight different solar installers. What we found…read morewas a mix of companies that were more interested in closing a quick sale than truly educating their customers. Many of them refused to take the time to explain how many panels the roof can set up for the ROI return in 10 yrs, the steps of the installation process, or the often‑complex HOA requirements that are so critical to get approval for the installation. We finally chose Mad Energy because of their outstanding customer service, specifically the dedication of their salesperson, Brad. From the very first visit, Brad took a hands‑on approach: he studied our energy bills, and patiently answered every question we had, whether we asked in person, by text, or over the phone. His thorough explanations helped us understand exactly how many panels would work for us and how it would impact our monthly costs. Importantly, the price point was fair, neither the cheapest nor the most expensive option on the market. The biggest challenge we faced was our HOA. Their board had imposed additional, unclear restrictions that weren't even part of the official charter. Brad produced detailed drawings, cited city regulations, and sent comprehensive emails to the HOA board, effectively educating them about the project's compliance. Thanks to his persistence and expertise, the board eventually approved our installation. The actual installation proceeded smoothly and without any surprises.
