    Restrooms and showers

This campground is a little oasis in the middle of the desert. My family had the opportunity to stay here this past weekend and loved it. We had a trailer and had upgraded to a pull through site. We arrived late-after the office had closed, but were able to locate our site and get settled really easily. Most of the campground has plenty of shade, and due to social distancing guidelines, every other site was vacant-so we had plenty of space. Had the campground been full to capacity, it would have felt a little crowded. There is an off leash dog play area that was perfect for our little guy. Larger dogs might get bored of it, but it did the trick for us. There are also a few restrooms and showers that were well maintained and clean. Onsite, you'll see that there is a gas station and convenience store-which we really appreciated when we needed a few things. The lady running the place is not very friendly-she seems to be annoyed by travelers or maybe just had a bad weekend (she was unpleasant both days we went in). There is also a great looking swimming pool and group pavilion-both were closed, but I'd love to check them out another trip. Our site was located right next to the camp host residence. Although our interactions with the staff were minimal, I did notice that there was a group of late teens/early twenty-somethings that were staying in the house and made a lot of noise. They were yelling, laughing and driving sporadically in and out of the park one night. I was a little surprised, since the camp hosts are usually the ones that set the example for the guests. But these guys were all about having a good time. Maybe next time, I'll go join them. ;-)

This location was nice and what we needed for 1 night but I'm not sure I would have wanted to stay more than that. The front desk staff were very friendly and the setup is convenient with the general store, gas, pool and two facilities but there could be a bit more attention to the amenities. The bathrooms were dingy and a lot of hair on the walls and floor and the only air dryer was broken. They should be cleaned at least twice a day with the amount of people that location accommodates. I will try other locations this brand offers but I wouldn't use it to stay more than 1-2 nights.

Great experience, clean bathrooms and showers and close to everything. Most sites have plenty of shade which is essential.

The park itself was very nice. It was super clean to include the facilities. We stayed for three nights in our camp trailer. No issues with the site (#24). We didn't interact with staff much at all so I can't say anything about them. The downsides were that it is right in town and it does get super loud at night. We would stay there again for sure.

The RV sites are very close together. A lot of one night stays as people came and went quickly.

At first appearance, as we drove in, I was not impressed. We passed the Moab RV Resort as we drove into town and I was impressed by their view but then I remembered they wanted about $25 more per night. I don't usually price shop, I prefer resorts and I am willing to pay the extra but this time I opted to remain on the economical side. Once we were set up I realized I gave up a view (we backed up to the high school) and the sites were small but well shaded with mature trees that paid off during the 106 degree days. The resort is clean and well maintained. There are people attending to the grounds throughout the day, hosing off empty sites and keeping the restrooms in great condition. There was room enough for the bigger rigs and their tow vehicles, but just barely. Basically, if you are traveling to Moab you are probably looking to hit the local National Parks so if you just want a clean and reasonably priced home base, this certainly fits that bill. Nice areas for tent camping (not our thing) and some cabins available for rent as well. The general store was sufficiently stocked with necessities and the staff were friendly. There is a nice playground area for the little ones and the pool, while not big, did have a splash area which many children were using. Overall, I was happy with the stay. While not the most scenic place we have ever stayed, I saved a couple hundred dollars and drove to the scenic places I wanted to see. Check out the pictures. You have a few places to pick in town but for the money, this place delivered on value and cleanliness. It only missed out on the 5th star because of the location. Close to everything but all you see when sitting outside is the RV parked 5 feet away from you.

Did find shade and the bathroom was clean and had good showers, and a pool, and they gave us homemade cookies when we checked in.

I would like to book a deluxe tent site for 2 nights while I am in town for a mountain bike race, and want to confirm that I can park my van in that site. I will be sleeping In the van and do not require any type of hookups. Is that allowable?

Hello, yes..we permit conversion vans on our deluxe tent sites...they fit well..

The mattresses are what you'd expect for staying off somewhere, not too hard but not too soft. We brought our own pillows so I can't speak to those. The bathroom has hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. We didn't use the community areas, but the setup looks great and it has a grill. Cons: Cleanliness is lacking, there are cobwebs throughout. The floor needs a good vacuuming and a heavy mopping done. It looks like only spot cleaning is done when guests leave the property. Seeing the lack of cleanliness made me question if our sheets had actually been washed and that's a gross feeling. The bath tub has no stopper, but using a wash rag worked just fine. The hot water is lacking. A quarter of the way filling the tub the water turned cold, and it took a good 45 minutes for the water to heat back up. With three people needing to bathe/shower, it was problematic and very disappointing after a long day of being out in Arches N.P. Be sure to watch a YouTube video on the Hamilton Beach Brew Station coffee pot before using or you will have watered down cold coffee. Unfortunately, I did this after making our coffee, and wasted the coffee grounds and collagen powder I had brought. There is a lot of road noise, so if you're a light sleeper bring ear plugs. I don't think we will be back here again for the price we paid.

We stayed here two nights and slept terribly. Even with the free earplugs, we couldn't get a good nights sleep. Everything is so close together you also have no space from your neighbors. When we arrived someone else was encroaching in our site. The shared kitchen and bathroom facilities are nice, hence the 2 instead of 1 star.

Horsethief Campground is run by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). Their mission is "To sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations." I did copy their mission from their website, FYI. Horsethief caught our eye online immediately. Though it did not have any running water offered, it was open during the winter. It also had toilets on site, which was a win for us. We decided to drive to Horsetheif and check it out. They offer both campsites and RV sites, but with no hook ups. All sites are first come, first serve. Which was also fine with us, because again, we were planning on camping during the winter, during a time when they had just had a good amount of snowfall. I was told that it was an unseasonable amount for that area at this time. As we drove we made note of how close the campground was to both Canyonlands National Park and Dead Horse Point State Park. We were planning on visiting both parks, so this seemed ideal. When we pulled in, (and do not blink, you can easily miss the entrance), we knew we found our campground. It was breath taking. The area was spectacular. It was covered with pristine snow and had Pinyon trees all around. It was like we were the only people there, we felt so secluded and protected. We picked tent site 25 and it could not have been more perfect. When we stay at Horsethief again we will aim to get the same site. It was close enough to the bathroom and yet hidden. I fell in love with our site and that campground in the short time we were there. The cost is $20 per night for tent sites and you need to bring exact cash. You simply put your cash in the provided envelopes and drop it in the drop box. When we visited there were no pens/pencils, and we did not travel with any, but I hope they know that we were the ones that paid. Please if you stay a night at Horsethief, please pay your fee, the money goes directly to the BLM and that is how they support taking care of their land. It was magnificent and I can not wait to return.
