I have eaten here a few times, while I'm not disappointed, I'm not raving about it. Each time I order I always ask them to make it spicy. This time I asked them to make it extremely spicy and it's like they left out all of the peppers. So when I picked up my order I asked for some chili oil and instead they gave me random hot sauce. Almost raw chicken and extremely bland taste. Could have been a 4 or even 5 stars but Sun Fat just doesn't seem to care. There's nothing worse than chicken that is barely cooked, and the lack of flavor, especially in a dish such as Szechuan Chicken (and I asked for the Spicy option) is incomprehensible. I still gave it 3-Stars because the combo of ingredients was good, and the PFR actually had some pork in it. Also, the Fried Shrimp was excellent. Ordered again from Sun Fat last night. Sweet & Sour chicken combination plate, boneless spare ribs(small size), and steamed dumplings. The individual pieces of the Sweet & Sour chicken are smaller than we are used to (see my pic below). Flavor was still alright though. Boneless spare ribs were crispy, not bad, and the steamed dumplings were tasty (as they were with my last order at Sun Fat). Fried rice that came with the Sweet & Sour chicken plate was flavorless. Overall, my 3 Star rating for Sun Fat still stands, I feel it's fairly average Chinese food (with a few items being better than average), IMO. read more

We were so disappointed with our evening's take-out order. The Shrimp with Cashews had all of 6-7 "pieces" of the nuts in the meal - but the 6 shrimp were very large compared to other Chinese restaurant takeout places. Their eggrolls keep getting smaller but so have they are other Chinese restaurants. The veggie spring rolls were filled with one colored shredded "something" or other. Love this place and its our go-to Chinese food in town. We always order the same thing: Chicken lo mein Crab rangoons Chicken teriyaki on a stick Beef teriyaki on a stick The lo mein is never the same, which is tough to review. Sometimes the sauce is sweet and we've even had where it tasted smokey. When it's good, is tastes delicious! The rangoons, chicken and beef are always good. I really wish they delivered. Oh my YUM! Has Sun Fat improved in the last 5 years or what?! I stopped going there 5 years ago because the food kept coming out bland. I even stopped recommending them to others, as my once favorite spot became mediocre at best. Now FREEZE! I take back everything I ever thought. I'm a believer again! My experience last night restored my faith in my neighbors 100%. First of all, if you live on Federal Hill, Sun Fat is your closest Chinese place. The owners are our neighbors, too. This is a truly neighborhood run establishment, so your dollars do help your neighbors; pretty neat if I say so myself. As for the restaurant itself: It's situated in a little strip mall and hard to notice if you're just driving down the street. The parking is plentiful. The interior looks like your run of the mill Chinese Take out place with a few tables for dine in patrons, those fancy moving waterfall pictures on the walls, and that ever famous sage green, emerald green, and tan color scheme all take out chinese places seem to have. They offer the same menu as everywhere else, and now even have delivery. Right now, you're probably thinking, "ok so if it's just like everywhere else, what makes Sun Fat deserve 5 stars?". It's in the taste, my friend. We ordered the staples- boneless spare ribs, General Tso's Chicken with pork fried rice, pork lo mein, and egg rolls. The spare ribs were cooked to PERFECTION. They weren't that scary bright candy apple red color, nope! They were actually cooked, and blackened on the tips (yummy!), and the sauce was stuck to each rib. They were divine, candy-like almost! The pork fried rice was also fabulous. The rice wasn't sticky and it was cooked al dente. There was a significant amount of pork, and just enough of onions and other veggie stuff they throw in there, but not an overwhelming ratio to the rice, like some other places do. The General Tso's had a perfect glazed coating over the crunchy, fried chicken. In the past, I usually get soft breaded nuggets dripping in sauce. This time was so different, and again, so very worth it. The pork lo mein was also superb as it wasn't overwhelmed with sprouts and other vegetables. I also bought egg rolls. My boyfriend said they were delightfully fried, with a light and airy shell. It evidently tasted great as it was the first thing to go on his plate. Unfortunatwly, I was stuffed to the brim with the other food, I couldn't even fathom a bite of my eggroll by the end. Even if I didn't use soy sauce, the food was flavorful enough on its own to require no additional doctoring. The complex flavor profile had a lot to do with how everything was cooked and caramelized, rather than the ingredients themselves. I officially give Sun Fat my business again! And if you gave up on Sun Fat, come back! Whatever they're doing now, they are doing it right. I'm STILL thinking about how delicious last night's dinner was. Also, one awesome final tidbit- long gone are the paper take out containers in favor of reusable plastic ones. I'm the kind of girl who reuses those kinds of plastic containers so that's a bonus for me. Also, I don't have to worry about that metal handle when reheating my leftovers! read more

In my opinion Sun Fat is one of, if not the best Chinese Restaurants in the area. Usually pretty consistent with the food they put out. Great General Tso's and Crab Rangoons. They have really good Steamed Dumplings. I've had the Egg Drop soup and Won Ton soup which are both really good. Sesame Chicken and Orange Chicken all very good. I've never had a bad experience at Sun Fat. The staff are all very nice and accommodating. They offer free stuff depending on what you order. I really appreciate that considering in today's world everyone is take take take and you usually don't get anything for nothing. Sun Fat is my go to place for Chinese take out. read more

Came here for the lunch special - Ginger Chicken w/ Pork Fried rice and order of pork lo mien The lo mien was the only thing with flavor however it t was dripping in sauce. The ginger chicken lacked chicken like 3 strips and a semi bland sauce, now the pork fried rice is another story - WTF!!! Anyway, I was browsing the menu and decided on the teriyaki chicken (SO good). Me and my boyfriend both ordered that and then he wanted an appetizer. I use to rave of this place they used to have one of the best Chinese in Bristol area besides Lepo. I wonder if they have changed ownership they last 3 times I've been here the taste and quality of the food has changed. The flavor is lacking, the food was dry and lacking sauce as well. The owner of this place is so rude! I'm a vegetarian and I told the lady at the counter that, first thing. I accidentally ordered regular spring roll instead of vegetable spring rolls because usually all spring rolls are vegetarian. Ordered some General Tso's combination meal. The chicken is breaded too heavily. It reminds me of something that you get out of the frozen aisle. The rice was somewhat hard. I would have given two stars, but when I ordered, I told the woman that I didn't lile egg rolls. She immediate offered me a soda instead. I would have been happy just not getting an egg roll, but to replace it with a drink was fantastic. +1 star for giving me service above what most restaurants would ever do. read more

When you order options with vegetables, the vegetables are fresh and perfectly cooked, not limp and slimy like some places. Staff is friendly and the wait for an order is very minimal. I always find the food to be fresh and it I think it tastes great. I'm only giving it 4 stars because I wish they delivered! When you go to pick up the food the staff is always friendly and the restaurant is clean. I recommend them over every other Chinese food restaurant in Bristol. Sometimes the phone number doesn't work which is odd, but if you place your order when you get there it's always ready quickly. There are about 3 or 4 tables inside that seat only a maximum of 4 people, so I wouldn't recommend this place to dine in if you have a large group. If its just a few people for a quick bite then I dont think its a problem. read more

Been a Bristol resident most of my life and this has been my go to Chinese place for my family forever. All the food is delicious. Fast and friendly customer service. They offer free items depending on you order total. All around great place that doesn't do delivery. It's worth the drive over. Besides, in my opinion pick-up is much better than delivery. They know my face and even remember to sub a shrimp roll instead of an egg roll with combos just the way I like it. Give it a shot! Very good American Chinese food at a reasonable price. The woman who works days always remembers how I like my order. I use a cane and need it in a plastic bag to carry out and she always has it ready. Food is always hot and delicious. At less than 6 bucks for a combo plate at lunch, you cannot go wrong. It lasts me for two days. Egg rolls are ok but could be better but their Lo Mein and fried rice are both good and that is how I judge a Chinese take out restaurant. We have been going to Sun Fat for more than 5 years, and up until these last few times it has been wonderful. We even drive from Thomaston to get their food, because it's always been the best. Last time we had it it was just ok. Then we ordered last night. Our order was messed up, we asked about the house special mei fun and because my husband is allergic he said Nevermind we will just get the beef. They gave us the house special without the shrimp and charged us an extra $1 for omitting it! The food was not very good at all and our daughter was really sick to her stomach this morning. I don't know if they are under new ownership or what is going on there but we will not be going back. Sad because for so many years we drove out of our way to go there and now need to find a new favorite. Not to mention that after spending $50 on food last night (who doesn't love left overs?) We probably won't even eat them because of the quality and our daughter getting sick from it. read more
