We're from out of town visiting family. Found this on a mapping app and gave it a try. Food was really tasty. Order was ready when we picked it up and still hot when we got back to where we are staying. Portions were ample. I couldn't finish mine so it went in the fridge for later. Okay - the good - Delivery was on time, the driver was wicked nice & the order was 100% correct & it was hot! I appreciate good service so that right there is 2 stars! Okay, now onto "the ugly" which is a pretty accurate description of the food from my experience. The vegetable fried dumplings were tasteless & the sauce for dipping them in should have fixed that issue but it just wasn't my lucky night. The dumpling sauce was truly gross & it seemed to be nothing but soy sauce with lots of salt added if you can even imagine that. (Inedible entirely) The spring rolls were also bland & tasteless & a touch overdone. My husband ordered a spicy chicken dish that he said wasn't spicy & it was not what he was expecting given the lack of "heat". Overall, just a pretty crappy, lackluster meal. I really hate writing bad reviews unless I tried to rectify any issues to no avail but in this case, the food was really not good & there isn't much they can fix (their recipes are about it) based on the meal I had. My wife and I ordered General Taos chicken and boneless spare ribs with pork fried rice. Everything was delicious and it even came early!

Decided to give China Chef another chance last night. We ordered a few simple appetizers and egg rolls. Nothing difficult. The shrimp rolls were literally swimming in grease. When I took one out, oil poured out all over my plate and was still puddled in the bottom of the bag. I had to wrap the rolls in paper towels and let them sit before they were at all edible. Let me start to say that I believe they have good steamed dumplings. It used to be further complimented by a sweet and sour dipping sauce that turned them into the best around. For some reason, the sauce is now just a salty soy type sauce. Another good point is they will substitute the rice for brown rice. China Chef has, at least in my opinion, the best Chinese takeout in Bristol. Everything that I've gotten there has been pretty good. And as is mostly the case with Chinese takeout places, the food is always pretty good but never really great. I do specify Chinese takeout because there is at least one Chinese buffet in town with a larger selection, but I consider to be a different category of restaurant. My personal favorite there is the sesame chicken, which gives a nice additional crunch to the standard General Tso's chicken you can find at literally every Chinese place in the country. Overall, not the best food that you've ever eaten, but probably the best Chinese takeout in town! *One additional side note that has nothing to do with the quality of their food but somewhat annoyed me about the place. I used to work at the ShopRite in that plaza, and the workers at China Chef would always steal our shopping carts to put their trash in even though managers and other associates repeatedly told them to stop. Shopping carts are surprisingly expensive (a few hundred dollars) and the few times we get some of the 5 (or more) carts back from them that they would have at one time, they would be absolutely filthy and smelled like grease and Chinese food. In order to perhaps try and be sneaky about it, the workers would send a small, maybe 8 or 9 year old child, to try and poach some of the shopping carts and bring them to their restaurant. Again, that was totally random and has nothing to do with my rating of the place, I just thought it was a funny story to add. read more

I've been to China Chef a couple of times. Each time was not a disappointment. There are certain things that leave a little to be desired. The food: Ordered general tso's combo. Sesame chicken combo. Crab rangoons. Boneless spare rib combo. Steam dumplings. Everything tasted wonderful. Definitely better than most Chinese places around. The general tso's, although tasted VERY GOOD as not cooked enough. All the chicken was a bit soggy. It should have a crisp to it. The steamed dumplings were tasty and cooked well. The soy sauce that came with them had bits of fresh ginger in it. Very nice touch. Lastly, the boneless spare ribs were amazing. Well cooked. Slightly caramelized. Flavor spot on. Best I've had. Oh, the pork fried rice. Not greasy. Lots of flavor. Really happy overall. The service was really nice. Everyone seemed friendly. Quick and accurate with the order taking. No complaints there. One thing of note. Others who actually enjoy the presence of children may not mind their little girl floppin around and making noise. We, on the other hand, find children to be quite annoying when they aren't behaving. And although she was acting OK I really don't feel I should have to stand there and listen to them discipline their child. It's just an irritation that could easily be avoided. Luckily I'm all about take out and only had to deal with it while waiting and not while eating dinner. Very big difference and this won't effect me going back. Lastly, prices. Everything came up to $32. Not bad for all the food that was ordered. read more

Only Chinese take out I order! The food is Always amazing and never takes long to get here!

To begin this review I need to describe my experience attempting to get food from China Chef through BringMeThat, while I don't hold this against China Chef I do want to inform people so they can avoid similar experiences. I first ordered on a Friday night, after having waited literally two hours I contacted BringMeThat's costumer service who informed me (much to my frustration) that "someone had called the restaurant and cancelled my order". I never received notification of the fact that I was waiting for food that was never coming and who knows if I would have even gotten my refund if I hadn't talked to them. I really wanted to order their chicken with oyster sauce and their almond chicken since they sound similar to my favourite Canadian Chinese dish of almond soo gai which I have been unable to locate an equivalent dish for in America. As such I attempted to order from them again the next day, a representative from BringMeThat called me a few minutes later saying that the restaurant no longer served chicken with oyster sauce and asked for a replacement I went with almond chicken, minutes later another call the restaurant was out of almonds, so I went with general Tso's chicken. After an hour of waiting (they said it would be 40 minutes from when the order was finally confirmed) I checked to make sure the same thing as the previous night wasn't happening again, it was not and my food arrived after two and a half hours (from confirmation, three hours from the placement of my order online).. Their fried rice was the best I've had of the Chinese restaurants in Bristol I've tried so far, 4/5. The egg roll was not very good, 2/5. The fried dumplings were small and quite good, 4/5. The beef with Hunan was decent, 3/5. Their general Tso's chicken was the worst I've had in Bristol so far (likely due to how long it took to get here), 2/5. If I were to order from them again I would see if it was possible to order using the restaurant's own delivery service rather than BringMeThat and I would want to try their crispy beef and almond chicken. read more

This WAS the best Chinese food place in the area. The keyword is WAS. We ordered $50 worth of food and not $5 was edible. The kids were spitting out the beef and broccoli, also the Szechuan chicken and the general Tso's were like rubber. It was the worst food I've ever paid for. Of the 3 people who ate it, all three were stomach sick within 30 min. The sweet and sour sauce was jello, never seen that. We even microwaved it for 1.5 minutes and it was still jello. We wouldn't let our 8 year old eat it. When I brought it back to the restaurant and asked for my money back I was told no way. She, the owner, asked what was wrong. I told her the beef was inedible also the chicken was inedible. I told her the lo mein chicken was like eating a salt lick. I also told her the three people who ate it were sick "want me to go get the water from the toilet" she said yes! Then she called the cops on me!!!
