"Baby, baby, show me what you can do And now it's just between us two" It's a grand tradition, private audition" (Ann and Nancy Wilson) After a long miserable day in the cold and rain while volunteering at the Travelers Open, we were craving some nice traditional Chinese-American comfort food, especially some hot soups -Won Ton for my wife and Hot and Sour for me. New Asia sure came through for us. My Hot and Sour Soup ($3.50) was very good. It was a meatless version, but what made it distinctive was the very large serving of sliced cooked mushrooms that were in it. Combined with the zippy broth, it was a very good version of my favorite soup. My wife's Wonton Soup ($3.25) came with 4 good sized wontons wrapped with a medium thick dough and a tasty filling. Staying with the traditional themes, we split Combination Dinner C-16, the old reliable Chicken and Broccoli ($10.50). The chicken was fantastic -super tender slices and plenty of it. The broccoli was tender and delicious as well. And the Pork Fried Rice was a generous serving with plenty of meat. The only downer was the small, flaccid, cabbage heavy egg roll. Their massive menu has 150+ choices, with concentrations of Chow Mein, Chow Fun, Lo Mein, Moo Shu, Sweet and Sour, Egg Foo Young, Beef-Chicken-Pork-Seafood variations, plus combination and lunch specials. We did take-out and I need to tell you about the service. The guy who took our order was friendly and efficient. We grabbed an empty table to wait, and within ten minutes he brought our bagged order to us and wished us well.

This is our go to Chinese restaurant! The food is consistently fresh and delicious and the takeout is always promptly ready. We usually get golden fingers, chicken lo mein (extra spicy), and wonton soup. We've so recently tried the garlic sauce chicken, which was excellent!

Lunch Special Menu. They also have an extensive menu of all Chinese specialties.

First visit. Excellent service in a very clean and attractive takeout restaurant. You can also eat in as they have 5 tables. Food was very tasty, hot, and made with quality ingredients. Will definitely return!

Fried chicken wings

I was hesitant to try a new take out place as I'm a loyal Black Bamboo fan. I'm glad I gave New Asia a try because the food was fresh and "healthy". I ordered wings, chicken fried rice, Hunah chicken and an egg roll. Initially when I saw the coloring of the rice I wanted to kick myself for giving a new place a try. The rice is lighter than the typical Chinese fried rice. I use very little salt in my cooking and was able to detect it after a few nibbles of the rice. I thought I wouldn't like it but it's nice that the rice had many different types of veggies. I would order again simply bc this is the healthiest tasting fried rice I have ever eaten. The Hunah chicken was so so. I don't know if it was worth $8 bc the container the food was packaged in was extremely shallow. The meat was fresh but sorta skimpy. The fried chicken was fried chicken. Nothing special. I did notice that it didn't stay crunchy long. After 15 mins of my order arriving my chicken lost it's crunch. I guess less chemicals? Four stars for being decent in the area. Fresh veggies and moist rice is a plus!

Sidewalks were torn up but the place is hard to find with lack of signage. We were able to get seated right away, and looked through their digital menu. We got a smattering of dishes, wontons and dumplings, a sandwich and a ramen. Food came out in a reasonable wait time. We took pics and dug in. The 7 flavor dumpling was the star of the show. Light and thin dumpling wrapper, savory sweet sauce, plenty of filling. The pork dumplings were good, but the wrapper was thicker and denser. The twice cooked pork sandwich was pretty tasty, the pork needed to be more present compared to the veggies, but appreciated the crisp of the bread. The ramen had a good amount of braised beef and noodles. The broth needed a little doctoring to coax out some of the more savory notes. Broth needed more aggressive seasoning though. The price was not too bad for the area. It's kind of like dim sum, where you get a small plate for the price but it's all shareable and the flavors are good. It's not very well lit, gave the place a very dark air about it. But as a restaurant, it's pretty good. There's a lot of great places in that area, and this one's a good option if you're looking for small plates.

Lunch specials are smaller portion, but good for the price (raised to $12.95 now since my last menu photo) We split a lot of dishes because we couldn't decide: Wonton soup appetizer {4.5/5}: Loved how delicate the wontons were and the clear broth was great for a cold day. Tad too salty though. Lunch special --Braised pork belly {3/5}: Very tender, but kind of monotone in flavor. Very filling! Lunch special --Hot and sour gizzards {4.5/5}: This might freak people out in terms of texture, but I LOVE this texture. Good chew and pops of heat from the peppers and acid from the pickled green beans Lunch special --Cumin dish lamb {3/5}: kind of chewy and not as much flavor as I wished, but not bad! Chicken wings {3/5}: Crunchyyyy. Battered wings, not as much flavor as their chongqing chicken which I prefer, but not bad

Outside is very much a busy shopping plaza in not the best part of town. Inside is a completely different story. Very clean and spacious, lots of booths and tables. Decorated well and a lot to see. The staff were friendly but there was a slight language barrier. We fumbled through the menu and found some bites to try. Food came out relatively quick, and that was a bit to manage because there were a lot of plates brought rather quickly. We got pics and dug in. The bites were flavored well. Nothing felt too greasy or under seasoned. The white pepper chicken was very crispy. But not a lot of chicken on each bite. The sweet and sour soup was both sweet and sour, but balanced enough that you could keep on eating it. The dumplings were fresh noodles and the filling was spiced well. The only flop was the spare ribs. Really tasty sauce, but very little meat on the bone. Had to suck on the bones to scrape enough meat off to make it a proper appetizer. It tasted good, just was not easy to eat. Price for the area was high for the neighborhood. It's got the quality and the flavor to command that price easily, but it doesn't match the stores. It's really good, but know that you're getting the real deal sichuan experience. Expect some heat, some saucy fingers, and some bones, and you'll get some really good bites

The space is absolutely beautiful: modern, bright, and spotless. The food was fresh, flavorful, and came out piping hot. They bring each dish out as it's ready instead of all at once, so keep that in mind if you like everything served together. Personally, I didn't mind because it just meant my soup was perfect when it arrived, and my son's appetizer followed shortly after. I didn't check out the bathrooms this time, but judging by the rest of the restaurant, I'm sure they're just as immaculate. Black Bamboo is the only Chinese food I'll eat, period. If you know me, you know I'm picky, and this place never disappoints. Every bite tastes fresh, the service is friendly, and the vibe is always calm and inviting. Over the years I have had everything on the menu, and I've never had a bad meal. My personal favorites: the egg rolls, scallion pancakes, hot and sour soup and their fried rice, which I honestly think is the best in the world, period. My son is all about their beef teriyaki and it's his go-to every single time. This is exactly the kind of place where you can try something new and know it's going to be good. I recently ordered the chop suey and egg foo young for the first time ever, and both were fantastic. If you've been curious to branch out, this is where you want to do it; you can't go wrong. Also, they have real duck sauce for a small upcharge. Not just stuff in the packet (yuck). So if you're craving Chinese food in West Hartford, go to Black Bamboo. You'll taste the quality, feel the difference, and probably end up like me... a loyal regular who can't eat Chinese anywhere else.

They recently opened a new location on Farmington Ave in West Hartford, but this spot is east of the old location. The new digs are nice inside. The dining room is not huge, but it's roomier than the old dining room. You still order at the counter even if you're dining in. Over the years, most of my food orders probably fall within the 4.25 Star to 4.5 Star range for a takeout type Chinese restaurant. Occasionally, they'll dip a bit lower or soar a bit higher. My General Tso's Chicken Combo meal with broccoli, pork fried rice and a fried shrimp egg roll was trending towards 4.5 Stars, but fell a bit short so I'm going to round down to 4 Stars since I can't give half Star ratings. The chicken was good quality and well cooked. The sauce was a bit sweet and sour-leaning on the General Tso's Spectrum. The shrimp egg roll was very good. It had two medium size shrimp rather than a bunch of mini shrimp. Pro Tip - I like the pork egg roll at a lot of places, but Shrimp is definitely the way to go at Black Bamboo. The pork fried rice was tan, which I mention because I always prefer places with the tan rice to places with the yellow rice. I've ordered a range of things at Black Bamboo over the years. Their sauces are not always like the sauces at other places. And what I really like about Black Bamboo is each Black Bamboo sauce tastes different than its other sauces. At other takeout places, a few different named sauces are just vaguely brown, sweet and spicy. Black Bamboo is one of the better takeout Chinese options in Hartford County. 4.4 Stars

Sapporo Premium Beer is Japan's oldest beer brand, founded in Hokkaido in 1876 by brewer Seibei Nakagawa. Known for a crisp, refined taste with a clean, dry finish, it is a pilsner-style lager (roughly 4.7-5.2% ABV) frequently packaged in iconic silver cans. It pairs well with Japanese food and is known for its high-quality ingredients and brewing standards. It was founded in 1876 during Japan's Meiji-era modernization in Hokkaido, it is the nation's first and oldest beer. The world headquarters of Sapporo Breweries is in Ebisu, Shibuya, Tokyo, and it also operates a renowned museum in Sapporo. As for taste, it's a golden-colored, light-to-medium-bodied lager with mild bitterness, a subtle sweet malt aroma, and a sharp finish.. While technically a Japanese beer, many cans sold in the U.S. are brewed in places like Escondido, California, and Richmond, Virginia, Key products include Sapporo Premium Lager, Sapporo Black, and Yebisu. This is THE beer to have with this cuisine (Chengdu or Szechuan). This is good! It's ice cold too! For our appetizers, we are having the Steamed Vegetable Dumplings and Spicy Flavored Jelly Noodles which are dressed in scallions, ginger, garlic, celery and cilantro. These are good! They come with soy sauce. The noodles are made from mong beans. Mung beans (Vigna radiata) are small, green legumes native to India, widely cultivated in Asia, and known as green gram or moong bean. They are a highly nutritious, versatile ingredient, rich in protein, fiber, vitamins, and minerals, used in both savory dishes (soups, curries, noodles) and sweet desserts, often sprouted for increased nutritional value. Mung beans are easy to cook, require little to no presoaking, and offer health benefits like antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. I am also having the Seafood Hot and Sour Soup (small size). This seafood soup is good! Not too spicy! It's similar to the standard Chinese hot and sour soup in taste. For my entree, i'm having the Sliced Chicken with Crunchy Rice. This is made with chicken slices, crunchy rice, black fungus, ginger, scallions, garlic, pickled chili peppers, lettuce and pea sprouts. They fold the crispy rice and put it on top. This is piping hot! Spicy too! For dessert, we are having a Chocolate Truffle (made with Zabione cream center surrounded by chocolate gelato and caramelized hazelnuts topped with cocoa powder), Cappuccino Truffle (made with cappuccino gelato with a heart of espresso covered with coffee flavored merinique sprinkles) and Capps Pistachio (custard gelato swirled with chocolate and pistachio gelato ago topped with praline pistachios). Zabaione (or zabaglione) is a classic Italian dessert made from whipped egg yolks, sugar, and sweet wine (traditionally Marsala) cooked gently over a double boiler until light, foamy, and custard-like. It can be served warm as a sauce over fruit or cookies, or chilled as a standalone dessert, often garnished with berries or biscotti. The name comes from the Venetian word for "whipped," reflecting its airy texture. These are absolutely great!
