My car wasn't starting frequently. After taking it to 2 other places to have free tests, it was concluded i needed to take it to an shop for a diagnostic test. A friend recommended Sun Devil on Tatum and Bell. They chose to run the free tests again first before charging the 4115 fee for a diagnostic. It came back that the starter did need to be replaced...something the other place told me was fine. Not only did they save me $100 compared to the local dealership, they were friendly and helped me out when I ran into problems with logistics and other issues that were easily resolved due to their good citizenship and care for the customer. My car is back and working great after a 2 day hiatus. It would have been 1 but with my luck, the starter for my car was nowhere to be found and had to be overnighted. I will definitely be using these guys as my go to mechanics. read more

In a serendipitous moment, I discovered Sun Devil Auto. My wife's Jeep needed an oil change. She didn't care where it was taken, she just wanted to get it done and not miss time at work or kill a couple hours over the weekend. I had some free time, and decided I'd go to the nearest Jiffy Lube. It was 7:30am, and I guess I was a little tired when I parked the Jeep and accidentally walked into the Sun Devil Auto next door to the Jiffy Lube I was planning to get an oil change at. It turns out an oil change and inspection at Sun Devil is just $20. That's not a type-o. The only catch, Sun Devil only takes oil changes by appointment. I literally had all day, but fortunately they were able to see me at 9am. I killed an hour, took the Jeep back, and about another hour later it was ready to go. I got a list of recommended services for my next visit, but never got the dreaded listing of extras that I supposedly needed before this visit was over. How fortuitous that I ended walking 20 feet to the left instead of the right. $20 without any sort of a coupon for an oil change. I'm good with that. read more

This is a continuation of the review I posted on 8/8/18. The censor they had ordered for the ABS & esc off warning lights was defective. They had to order a new one. It came in today, and I went down and they put it in. I was listening to the employees interactions with the customers as I sat waiting. There was an older woman waiting who had brought her car in for something, I don't know what. A technician came out of the shop area. He told her she needed a new battery. He said she might be out running errands and her car just wouldn't start when she came back to it. She told him to go ahead and replace it. She did not ask him what it would cost, and he did not provide her any cost estimates. She may have needed a new battery, but I'll bet she was surprised when it came time to pay! They got me with this approach, and they got her, too. Apparently they are well schooled in this approach! I don't have a problem with the work they did. My car seems to be running very well. Thank you Sun Devil Auto! I just have a problem with their prices and the fact they don't reveal them to you if you don't ask specifically. I think the old saying, "Fooled me once, shame on you. Very Pushy!! I brought my car for a diagnostic test because my check engine light came on. After finding out what it needed, they wanted to charge me more than Double the shop next door. Then literally called my phone 3 more times pushing me to let them fix it. All before lunch time and knowing I was at work. I said I will call them on my lunch break and let them know, they called 2 more times after that. Very rude in person also. So glad I didn't get my car repaired there. read more

Please, people, protect yourselves. This shop is a ripoff place. Read the reviews related to brake jobs. They told me, my never resurfaced rotors are too thin to resurface and I need new brake fluid. But the routers never even been resurfaced before. Went to Firestone shop. No new rotors or new brake fluid are required. Stay away from Sun Devil auto on Bell road. read more

Took my car in with impression I need struts. Was given initial quote of almost $700. Manager Craig called and said didn't need struts but instead it needed right tire rod end and would only be about $250. That was great but called later and said they replaced part but it still was making sound that I originally brought car in for so they took it off and put original part back on. Craig went over and above to call a Hyundai dealership and found the car had an extended warranty for this happening and said it was 80% chan e it was something that dealership should fix. Not exactly a recall but they should fix it. I really appreciate the time and effort Craig took to find out it was a dealership fix and didn't even charge me for tie rod end. I'm even more impressed each time I take my car in. Highly recommend this shop!! read more

Great place! I was a walk-in, not really knowing what services I needed, but knew my car needed some sort of tune up. Not only did they get me in & out within an hour, but they installed my new license plate for me. Didn't try to sell me services I didn't need, or take advantage of the fact that I'm a female and obviously had NO CLUE what I was doing. Very clean and professional lobby. My husband took his car in after waking up to a dead battery. They noticed his car needed an oil change and fluids so they recommended these services, which any owner would do. They then told him they couldn't figure out why his car was having issues after these services were complete and needed to keep the car another day. A simple car battery and oil change turned into $800 and over night service. Get ready for the up sell and getting your car back dirty, smelling like oil with white fluid spilt on the hood. I dropped my car off the night before and I received a call just after they opened. I thought I needed a new starter but I was pleasantly surprised when they told me it was my battery wiring. This location is outstanding my car overheated and had some serious problems because a different auto repair shop placed a leaking cooling housing in vehicle Craig and his crew found the problem and notified me immediately. Craig physically showed me what was wrong and walked me through the steps no other auto repair shop has ever done that my vehicle was in the shop for over a week and Craig called and undated me on every step they took to repair the damage done to my vehicle. I've been to several other repair shops over the years and hve never had this great of an experience. You would be a fool to go anywhere else I am now a forever customer to sun devil auto. After reading the reviews for this place I was a little skeptical but I decided to take my chances. Anthony from this location was very helpful. He told me all that I needed to know to change the fuel, replace a bulb, serpentine belt and cabin air filter. He reduced the price to fit my budget when I told him that I couldnt go over 200$. The work was done quickly in about an hr so that I could go back in time to pick my son from daycare. All in all a renewed place and my experience was wonderful read more

last week I went to the chevy dealer for a routine oil change. I was told I needed new rear brakes and rotors on my 2012 chevy tahoe to the tune of 400.00. the vehicle has 85,000 miles. so I stopped in to sun devil auto for a second opinion. the shop is clean and employees all friendly. Scott the manager said they can do a complete brake inspection for no charge. yes I needed rear brakes but the rotors could be resurfaced at a total cost out the door of 156! so I made an appointment for this morning. they took the vehicle right and did a great job saving me quite a bit of money. I will be returning here for all of my automotive needs. read more

WARNING!!!!! DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE!!!!!!!! I was with my friend during her whole ordeal. Long story short they claim they did a transmission flush and charged $200 for it only to find out once we took the car to an actual GMC dealer that it had not been done as the oil was black as soil and had a foul order. according to the master mechanic at GMC a transmission flush has NEVER been done on the car and because they claim they did, a lot more damage was caused as a result. They REFUSED to try to make the situation right. Of course while being on the phone with them for hours we go online and read how a customer literally marked his tired to ensure they were rotated and watched from the alley way as they were SUPPOSED to be doing an oil change and full work up but did absolutely nothing. When he confronted them he wanted to take his car and leave but what did they do? They called the police, he had to pay for service that did not get done and then take it somewhere else to pay AGAIN for something that was supposed to have already been done. Its a shame to say the guy should have recorded what he saw but who goes into a shop thinking they have to do that when you read all the good reviews on top of the fact that its a business and you should be able to trust they have good business practices. I saw their coupon for an oil lube and change for 19.99 and I was going to take advantage a week ago, but now I'm afraid I'll get my car back thinking the oil got changed and it didn't or that they will leave the oil cap off and my engine will lock up. Myself or our families WILL NOT deal with them. Their corporate offices are useless and doesn't do anything so the next step is the BBB because this is ridiculous!! read more

We had been taking our cars to Sun Devil and recently had shocks/studs replaced on one of them in October. The car wasn't driven much because the tires were bald and needed to be replaced. But on November 13th, our other cars were being used so my son drove it the 5 miles to his work. On his way there the back left wheel fell off the car! Obviously, when the mechanic had put the wheels back on he either over or under-tightened the lugbolts. The car was towed back to Sun Devil because the work done in October was still under warranty. "Steve" at Sun Devil assured us the car would be thoroughly inspected to make sure no damages were done when the wheel fell off. If they found any damages, they would repair them free-of-charge and would also pay for the tow charges. On Nov 15th, we got a call to come get the car - everything was taken care of...they only needed to replace the lug bolts. But, when we got it home, we could see through the wheel spokes that the brake shield was sheered in half! Sun Devil hadn't replaced that and God-knows what else was wrong with the car we couldn't see. So, we called our insurance company and they said to bring it in for an unbiased inspection of the car. Turns out over $1,400 of damage was done to the car when it hit the ground. Our agent called Sun Devil to see if they would cooperate and at least pay our deductible. Sun Devil refused - saying that the wheel falling off was "driver error!" So, we had to pay the $500 deductible to repair the car and now will have to go through the hassle to sue them in small claims court to get our $500 back. We've checked with three independent mechanics who all agreed that Sun Devil is 100% at fault. BE VERY WARY OF BRINGING YOUR CAR HERE! So, I went in on 8/14/13 with my room mate to pick up his truck that he left there to be looked at for a ticking noise in the engine(he had it here before and they thought they fixed it but didn't). So we walk in and they can't find his keys but they do find them. Then they say there is a charge and my roommate says "there shouldn't be, I never authorized any work to be done besides a diagnostic" (which should be free since its back for the same problem as before) so the guy get the manager, the manager comes in and starts telling my roommate that nothing is free and they had to put a part in to even see what is going on (never authorized) so my roommate says he wants to take it to get looked at somewhere else, the manager then says in a very rude and sarcastic voice "oh, ya because we don't diagnose Chevys here" at this point I was in awe of how rude this guy was being, oh, and let me mention my roommates dad brings all his company vehicles to this place and they still treated him like this. So, after arguing the manager just says"ok, what do you want?" And then just gives him the keys and says "if you don't bring the truck back to get fixed here then just bring the truck back so I can take my switch off".. Now, I've worked at Sanderson Lincoln in service dealing with customers everyday and if I ever talked like that to a customer I would of been fired in a snap. This place is a joke, and I went in totally un biased and wa shocked by this "manager" he was so in professional and rude!! I think he only gave him the keys because he knew he was in the wrong for not having permission to install the part. I hope the owner sees this and re considers his employees. I had my alternator replaced to the tune of $713 in April of 2011 at Sun Devil Auto. It went back out again today(10/24/2012). I understand them not having a warranty on the labor for the service but the other three auto mechanics I talked to from competing stations said that their parts have a lifetime guarantee. I was astonished by this! I asked if they would consider ANY discount whatsoever for the service and they declined. Then they had the nerve to ask me if I still wanted them to fix it. Are you kidding me?!?!? Fool me once! I advise against using this auto center. I know I never will again. Furthermore, Sears just told me they are going to put in a new alternator for $516! $200 less!! read more

I have been going to this particular Sun Devil Auto location for probably close to 10 years now and there is definitely a reason why. The staff is extremely honest and I have yet to have a bad experience. I've never had any issues with unnecessary repairs. They only fix what's necessary and they will keep you updated as to repairs that might be necessary in the future (i.e. new brakes) and when you can expect those repairs to become a necessity. I have also found them to be very competitive for what they charge for routine maintenance and repairs. Craig and the rest of his staff are great and I wouldn't go anywhere else. read more

Today I went to Sun Devil to do something no one likes to do, pay for very expensive auto repairs. Puna was my service advisor, first off let me say he was very helpful, honest and has the attitude of "it's all about the customer". I dropped my vehicle off to have my A/C compressor replaced. While I was hit with a high estimate at the end of March I had an idea of what it would cost. Dropped my car off waited for a short while to have a technician confirm it was compressor before shelling out a bunch of money for a repair that may not be necessary. The tech confirms my compressor did in fact need to be replaced. I paid my deposit and went home. Hours later Puna called to give me some upsetting news that compressor they ordered, plus three others they tried wouldn't fit on my car. However there was one compressor that will fit but it was more expensive and I would need to leave my car until Monday to have it fixed. So that means I would have needed a rental, Puna understood that not only the higher costs but not having my car would be a terrible inconvenience and insisted on paying for my rental. He said I will call you back with an exact dollar amount it would cost for the more expensive compressor. 45 minutes later he called me back and the first words out of his mouth were" you must have been touched by an angel". They were able to find another compressor that fit my car but it was more expensive. The next words out of his mouth were, "we will eat the extra cost". Now most people wouldn't care and will expect for you to fork over the extra cash, not Sun Devil. They showed me that they really do care about there customers and that is there first priority. A huge thank you to Sun Devil and Puna for getting my car back to me today and not Monday and most importantly for absorbing the extra labor and parts costs that it took to fix my car. read more

I recently had an oil change and tire rotation here and they told me my car needed a cabin filter and an air filter. I was told the cabin filter was $45 with no labor charge, so I had them do it. I checked my air filter when I got home and found it to be spotless, maybe my cabin filter was too. If you go here and they tell you that you need parts make them show you the old ones like reputable businesses do. I should have done that with the cabin filter. This business used to be honest, but something has changed. read more

I made an appointment and brought my car for an oil change. I had never been to SDA before. When I arrived the man at the counter was nice and of course asked what kind of car I had etc.. At that time I mentioned that in the time since I made the appointment, the low air pressure light came on for one of my tires. That was the second time in about 10 days so I was concerned that maybe I picked up a nail or had a slow leak. No problem he said they will take a look. I sat and waited in the waiting area. About 1 hour and 15 minutes later, a different guy came in and told me about a possible oil leak with the car and that they were almost done. I asked if they found a nail in the tire during the rotation. He didn't know what I was talking about, I again explained about the light. He went out into the garage and told the man working on the car. About 30 minutes later, the first guy apologized for the long wait time and told me that they do not typically carry the parts for my car, so it took longer than usual. Again, he was very nice. 20 minutes later, I glanced up from my book to notice my car completed outside. I walked up to the counter to check out, looked at the receipt and again, no mention of the tire. Are they just not into tires? I don't know..I guess not. At this point I wanted to leave. I didn't want to get into the tire light story again. When I got into my car, the low tire pressure light was on again/still. Shocker. I really wanted to like this place, its close to my house and as I mentioned before, the employees are friendly. However, it seems crazy that they completely ignored my concerns about the tire. Now I am going to have to take more time and go somewhere else. Second, maybe when the appointment is made, it would be good to find out the make and model of the car so that the appropriate parts are available. Its a Volvo not a Lamborghini, the parts aren't super rare. The price was a little high at $70, but that is not even my biggest complaint. read more

I took my car in because I needed a new serpentine belt. I worked with Tony to get my car inspected and he said the technicians found a few additional items that needed to be tended to. He let me know that he doesn't work on commission so he wouldn't push me getting anything done that didn't need to get done. He also helped me prioritize the work I needed by importance and made me feel like he genuinely just wanted to help. In the end the labor charges ended up being a little pricey, but the service made up for it. read more
