Crank shaft Positioner not installed right and drove out of bay and parked and given back to me. When I go to Start the jeep, it makes this ticking sound. Really(got told not installed correct)!!!! After oil change, told me they grease the fittings on the front.....*nope they didn't* After a first good experience is why I returned. This was my third time there when this happened. Went in for a simple oil change, I was told the engine mounts were leaking and needed replacing. The engine mounts on my car do not have contain fluid . I had the car engine mounts inspected at the car dealer , and were found to be in good condition and did not need replacement. Shame on this repair shop trying to add on repairs that do not need to be repaired. read more

Staff are nice enough, however the quality of the work and willingness to correct their mistakes is lacking. Purchased lifetime brakes that have not performed correctly since day 1, subsequently a month and a half later I am being told that my rotors are warped and they need to be replaced due to heat exposure. Yet when presented with research from multiple sites that indicate inappropriate brake pad wear (the issue since they replaced them) is the primary cause of rotor warping - I was simply told, that's not right and I have never heard that. Disappointing and will not be bringing any additional business to this location. Received the rubber stamp sorry you had a bad experience reply. My last name is Conger, my first is Joel. You will see I have brought my car in 4 times for the same brake issue and is still not resolved. I appreciate the social niceties but have zero inclination to come in and wast more time and be upsold rotors simply because you initial install was faulty. Feel free to look up my records and by all means reach out if you have some reasonable explanation why my brakes are still audible - despite being 'brand new' and out another $60 for labor to correct a job that should have been done correctly the first time. My daughter complained of a noise which she thought was under the dash. I listened and determined it was coming from under the hood and could be an idler, alternator or water pump based on my conversation with Jon Howard at Able Auto in Mesa (a friend but too far to drive at the time). Since it didn't seem critical at the time, I told her to make an appointment for Sun Devil at her convenience. I instructed her to let the shop diagnose the problem and not to mention what I thought. She took the car in on Saturday. They kept the car for a few hours and sent her on her way saying "It's a 'phantom noise'" which basically stated they couldn't diagnose it. But they sold her an air cleaner! She told me they said "Maybe the old one was rattling around." Two days later she called me and said her battery warning light came on as she was driving home from work. She made it home safely and I talked her thru the electrical system and determined she should go to the parts store and ask them to check the battery and alternator in the morning. O'Reilly's looked under the hood and said her serpentine belt was gone! Since this was on her way to work, she needed to call a tow truck and set out for Sun Devil again. She bought a $15 belt from the parts store, which I'm sure saved a couple bucks. I called and talked to Carlos and told him of them not finding a problem when she first came in and expressed my displeasure of them selling her an air filter when she came in for something totally unrelated. I said the car was on the way back on a tow truck and asked him to restore my faith in Sun Devil, since I recommended them in the first place. I asked if they had a shuttle and was told they didn't but they would insure she had a ride to work. He immediately began a work order. The determined the water pump had seized. The work was completed and daughter paid in advance. Since we couldn't pick it up before they closed, Carlos arranged for us to pick it up after hours. The work was done and so far no problem. Carlos stepped up and provided satisfaction after a shaky start. A single mom needs a shop she can trust when dad isn't always available. I'd still recommend S.D.A. but with a leery eye. $575 later a water pump was installed. read more

My wife and I brought a car to this shop for a pre-purchase inspection. Sun Devil auto was recommended by a friend of mine who owns his own shop in Mesa. I called earlier in the morning to see if I needed an appointment. The gentleman who answered the phone was courteous and let us know we could just show up. When we arrived, Scott (believe was his name), and I believe is the new manager, took care of us right away. He had smile on his face and we could tell he enjoys his work. After about 40 minutes, Scott called us up and had us go out into the shop to take a look at all the little things that they wanted me to be aware of. The car checked out, despite the tiny issues. I never write reviews but I figured this was the only way I could pay them back for the service I received. Fantastic service. I have a Ford Focus ST and I learned when my car battery died it's a major pain to have replaced. I went to O'Reilly's and they couldn't change it and called 3 other places who also said they weren't able to change my car battery. So I saw Sun Devil Auto on my way home and went in to see if they were able to change it. Not only did they change it, they did it the second I walked in there, the guy let me watch so I could try to do it in the future (not happening, too much of a pain) AND they didn't charge me a penny all while they had nothing but smiles and it seemed that "No" wasn't in their vocabulary. Discovered a we had a crack in the radiator of our 2006 Dodge Ram today. We got quoted a real high price from some place and they wouldnt be able to take care of us til next Friday. Called Sun Devil Auto on 49th St & Bell. They quoted a very reasonable price and got us in right away today and it was done in like 4 hrs! Great service!!!! I took my car into Sun Devil auto for an oil change and to investigate an oil leak. I feared the worst, an oil pan gasket or possibly a rear main seal. I was pleasantly surprised by the news that it was just an o-ring behind my oil filter. I had made an appointment for my oil change and my car was on the rack 5 minutes after I arrived and I was out of there in no time. I had a 2008 GMC Acadia towed to this shop. This vehicle was inherited to my wife by my late father in law and I was planning to restore it. It only has 130000 miles. I asked for their full diagnosis that costs well over $100 dollars. They called me and let me know they had found the issue and quoted me 1260 for hoses, thermostat and battery replacement. I went ahead with the work and ended up bringing it back 2 days later overheating. I was told that it was my fans that were not working. That they were working when I came in but stopped working while in their shop. (????) that it would cost me an additional $800 to get them replaced. I spoke to to John, Jason and Mario, none of them can answer any of your questions. DO NOT GO HERE for your vehicle repairs. Finding a good mechanic is like finding a good doctor and these guys are not it. I'm out $1260 bucks and no vehicle Beware. I know you want to support local business especially during a pandemic but this is not the place. read more

I planned to go the next door lube shop. But had to go to SD auto repair to flush replace and get a new transmission pan. No wifi at Bell rd location so went to Mc Donald's The parts ( trans filter, gasket and new trans pan ) I ordered from rock auto.com could NOT be used ( company policy ) So the added cost to flush replace filter and pan of the transmission was $$$ more. I did get the vehicle back with no cracked trans pan but did have to add another quart of transmission fluid to make the dipstick at minimum level.. It was worth the three hours to save time. Money ?? It is tough to know all, do it all and just keep a vehicle active on the road. My first experience depends on the front person and the support ( technicians ) I will try Sun Devil auto again... read more

I've been to this location for several years for their loss-leader oil change. which gets folks in the door. They can do that as a chain, with $$$ to spend on marketing. But this location is not truthful. For a couple years they've been saying the transmission fluid needs changed. So I had it changed by an small business owner on a Thursday, with a healthy report. The following Saturday Sun Devil did the oil change; again they said fluid was dirty, needs serviced. I explained it was done two days before. Their next words were that the transmission must be going out. I went home and checked - fluid was nice and pink. SD also said air filter needed replaced - which just checked out good the previous Wednesday by my small business mechanic. You decide if you want to this location. I'm sticking to small businesses, even if I pay more $ for an oil change, honesty has $ value too. read more

I never have any difficulty getting a convenient appointment. They diagnose the problem quickly and always thoroughly explain what is needed. The repairs are done quickly and there is the added service of driving me home so that I don't have to wait around for the repairs to be completed. They also help me stay up on the routine service that is needed, without pressuring me for a lot of unnecessary repairs/expenses. They were transparent and honest and didn't do things I didn't need.  One more then 1 occasion I went in thinking I needed other repairs and they tested my car (one was brakes and one was ac and the other was general system things) and they showed me that nothing was wrong with either after diagnostic testing and a thorough inspection. I also have sat in their waiting room for my auto and overheard them do the same for others. Doing what is needed, recommending what may be coming up, but never racking up the bill just because they have the know how and the general public doesnt. these people do what's RIGHT. I HIGHLY recommend Sun Devil Auto. My favorite location is on Bell about 2 miles off the 51 freeway. Jerry and all the guys know my name and ask about my family. They charged my husband $800 for routine maintenance for his Toyota. Maintenance for my VW Jetta only costs $400 at the dealership. Pretty sure we got taken advantage of at Sun Devil Auto. Additionally, I went in for an oil change and it took over an hour and a half. They also tried to have me pay for a new air filter which did not need to be replaced right away. If you have transmission problems go anywhere but here. In January of this year our transmission went out and we paid $3,400+ to have it replaced. The transmission came with a year warranty. After 6 months our check engine light came on for the transmission again. After two different trips to the auto shop and going two separate weeks without a car (and no offer to help with a rental) they finally determined that the wiring in the transmission had to be repaired. A day after finally getting our car back the check engine light came on again and we took it back to the shop. They didn't understand what it was and just reset the check engine light. Of course it came on again a few days later and we took it to a completely different auto shop. There we had to pay $500 for them to fix all of the transmission and wiring that Sun Devil had done wrong. Our problems should have been covered by Sun Devil's warranty but they were not competent and couldn't even tell us what was wrong. Absolutely painful how much money we have spent this year on that car because of them. We have also had trouble with them quoting us at one price and when we go to pick it up having it be way more with no reasonable explanation. We will never be back. What a Joke, This morning I started to look at the quote I received for my car and what I found was very upsetting. The Parts where marked up 31%. The dealer parts WEB-Site had marked the prices down. They put a red line through the original price and posted the new price. I decided to search other parts stores NAPA/O'REILLY's "I get it not OEM, but still. There cost 310 "Sun Devil Auto" Dealers Sale price 213.90 for a engine 4881050AC mount, NAPA 98.00. Went there early 7am on Monday august 5, 2013 to try and get a quick oil change before heading out of town. when I asked the counter grouch extremely nicely if it was possible if I could get a quick oil change. his rude response was this isn't jiffy lube- and then he said we don't open to 8 am. at first I thought he was joking around so i laughed. I then said your website says you open at 7am. he then proceeded to speak to me as if I was a 5 year old child. his words were: let me tell you how this works you can drop a car off at 7am but we don't start working until 8am. I turned around and started to walk out. he then had the nerve to ask if I wanted to leave the car and they would get to it later. are you kidding me! 1st- what business would ever speak to a potential customer in that manner. 2nd - what customer would ever stay and be treated in such a disrespectful way. She brought her much older model car into Sun Devil since she heard funny noises when she was breaking. Her auto mechanic Tony S. worked on that car all afternoon to investigate. What they found led them to believe there was a mistake in some previous work she had done elsewhere. They called the other shop (not sun devil), talked them through the issue, made sure it was covered under the other warranty and did not charge my mother for this, nor try to invent anything that needed repair. They were kind, courteous to her and helped her resolve the matter at no cost to her. It's actions like this that will allow me to recommend sun devil auto, Scott Coleman the Manager and Tony S. the mechanic who worked so hard to discover the issue. Scott at Sun Devil just saved me $1000 on control arms for my Audi. The Goodyear shop wanted almost $1700. Scott was able to replace the bushings and not the entire assembly. Even if he had done the entire assembly the price was still $600 less. Moreover, his crew spotted a potential catastrophic problem with work that Goodyear did just 2 weeks prior. We have a new shop.
