Sun Devil Auto has deleted my Facebook review of this shop, and has blocked my access to that page. I did not receive a reply to my most current message. Here is my reply to their response: "As I said on the call, it is an iPod Classic. There is no way to disable an iPod Classic. It does not have cell service, so that does not apply to this device. The model is an 80GB iPod Classic, and it is light gray in a black silicon sleeve. I do not have the serial number, because the iPod has not been connected to my current iTunes account. While I do not have the serial number, I do have a mix of music that is very unique to me. So if you have an iPod or two lying around your shop that you are planning on comparing serial numbers, we could use that as a substitute. Otherwise, I don't really understand why you would need the serial number at all. When I called to inquire if anyone in the store had seen the iPod, the store manager, Mario said "Sir, I do not hire thieves, and I trust my guys." I know that if I took an iPod out of someone's car during work, I wouldn't immediately go tell my boss. So you may not think you hire thieves, but in the end, there is no way of knowing that for sure. If it turns up, or if the technician remembers where he "moved" it to "while look for the wheel lock key" please let me know." read more

I'm traveling from Los Angeles to Texas. After driving all day and then filling up at a gas station in Phoenix , My Jeep had trouble starting. I eventually got it to start. I decided before continuing on my journey this morning, I would have the Jeep looked at before crossing hundreds of miles through the desert. As I pulled into Sun Devil Auto, I was met by Rick. I told him what had happened last night. He quickly took a couple of volt meter readings and checked everything out. He found nothing wrong with the battery or Alternator. He didn't try to sell me anything or try to fix something that wasn't broken. I appreciate this business and I give them 5 stars for being honest, quick and for giving me peace of mind. read more

I came into Sun Devil Auto due to a coolant leak and verification that the intake manifold and gasket was the reason. I brought my car three times to Sun Devil, at one point, leaving it overnight for a cold start. Unfortunately, Sun Devil were unable to detect the coolant leak. I knew there was a slow coolant leak because the distinct sweet odor that emits and the white smoke coming out of the exhaust. I believe the oil burning is due to the mixture of coolant leaking into the oil. Finally, the car overheated on 10/29/19, and I had to add coolant. I wanted verification from Sun Devil that the intake manifold and gasket is the culprit - improperly installed by a different company. Sun Devil were unable to diagnose this problem. I was extremely disappointed because I knew there was a slow coolant leak - I could smell it everyday. A lot of time was spent trying to have issue confirmed to no avail. However, on the other hand I would return to Sun Devil because I appreciated the manager Puna and how he dealt with me honestly, with empathy and understanding. He is a manager who speaks to the customer with respect and gives good advice and let the customer make the decision. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. Nick was also very nice, friendly, and professional. Although, my visit was not successful, Puna did not charge for the service because no diagnosis could obtained. Honesty. I will return to Sun Devil because they put the customer first and truly put forth an effort to satisfy the customer. read more

This place is awesome! I took my car here after it having issues for several months and trying to get it fixed at a different place. Puna was very professional and took great notes when I explained what issues I was having! He called me a few hours after I dropped it iff and told me exactly what was wrong and how much it would be to fix it! I was able to get my car the very next day and have had no issues since then! After my car broke down on the way to work, I had it towed to nearest the auto shop which happened to be sun devil auto. For the two days that it was there, I never once got a call about my car, but instead had to call them about it everytime. When I talked with them on the phone they told me that the check engine light was no longer on and my car was working great. I asked them to check my alternator because I was having issues with it, they said they did so I picked up my car. I happened to leave my water bottle behind and when I tried to start my car to leave it didn't start. Turns out its my alternator.... the only reason I'm leaving 3 stars is because the manager was able to immediately recognize that there were mistakes made. He listened to my complaints and he addressed them by compensating me on the price of the repairs. I feel like his level of customer service is the only reason I'm not giving them 1 star. read more

These are not only the nicest guys you will ever deal with...but truly the best mechanics in town. They are kind, thoughtful, fair and honest. I live in California, daughter goes to school at GCU. She driver her car from CA to AZ and as she got into AZ her check engine light went on!! Knowing this wasn't going to be good, I was stressing about the car troubles and the financial part of having to fix the car all while having to move her into her new apartment and being in a different state all of this was beyond stressful. This Sun Devil Auto location is excellent and I'm so happy I used them for a very frustrating a/c problem I was having in the middle of summer in Phoenix. They have a/c specialists on staff who really know what they're doing. I'd already spent time and money on the problem at a different auto repair outfit with no success, but these guys figured it out and got it fixed in one day. Derek and Nick were so helpful. Took several of my cars here in the past and can say it was ok initially. However, after today, not sure that will be the case going forward. First off, they used to be great about calling when the service was completed. The last few times I haven't heard a word and just hoped it was done when I went to pick it up after work. But for the major issues, took one of my cars for a 60k service. Shortly after started having a significant delay in the engine. At first thought it was the transmission acting up, but turns out Sun Devil put the wrong spark plugs in causing a lack of proper combustion. Called them and hey wouldn't correct it. Then recently took my car in for oil change and tire rotation, and specifically confining that's tire rotation would be performed and was told yes. Upon picking up my car, it was obvious the rotation wasn't done. I returned to the store and was told, ' well there must have been a reason they didn't do it'. When they asked the tech, I was told there was even wear. I said there clearly isn't which is also confirmed by my recent visit to a tire shop. Was then asked if I had time to rotate it right then, but I had to leave to go home. Invoice said the rotation was performed... Probably not coming back again. Update: 6/14. I visited Sun Devil Auto several times in the last year. I had oil change (at a great price) and front brakes (at average price) done without issue. However after bringing in my car for two separate issues I can't say this is my go to place anymore. The first issue began when I brought my car in to investigate a banging noise under the hood at high speed. Mario told me that my AC compressor needed to be changed. I questioned him for details only to have him brush me off for questioning his work. The issue was a loosely fitting air filter rattling under the hood ($10 fix vs. $1000 repair). The second issue is when my car failed to start several times. After dropping it off and waiting more than 6 hours with no phone call I called myself. They told me they finished looking at my car hours ago and was ready for pickup. They told me they couldn't find anything wrong. I drove it off their lot, parked it for two hours, and when I came back the car didn't start. Took it to Autozone the next day to swap out a faulty battery lead which fixed it. Lastly during the oil change they inspected my car. I was told me that I needed new sway bar end links and new radiator hoses. No mechanic since has suggested these as they are in good condition. I do not recommend Sun Devil Auto downtown for anything more complex than an oil change. Whitey's Auto in Scottsdale or Tempe Auto are top on my list. read more

Got my water pump replaced. Drop off was fast. Price was fair, I had a similar repair a while back, and it cost me twice as much. They diagnosed my car without charge. I took back the car the next day because I smell burnt rubber, they checked without any problem. Being it's only 3 minutes away from my apt is a plus! read more

A few weeks ago I had Sun Devil Auto inspect my vehicle because two other auto shops stated that I needed to repair both the intake manifold gaskets and water pump because they were leaking. I had not seen any thing on the floor of my garage but I was unsure and was going to have the repair done at the lesser of two. On my way to work I always pass Sun Devil Auto and I called to see if they do free inspections. They do. Steve, the manager, was very helpful and had my car inspected to find that the only thing that I needed was the coolant elbows which were leaking. He had the car reinspected after the elbows were replaced and found that no other repairs were needed. Now he could have gone along with what the two ripoff shops had stated but he did not. Steve runs an honest shop. I feel comfortable recommending it to others. Added bonus, they have a shuttle service. read more

This is a review long over due for posting...incident actually took place back in May. Had a few oil changes at this location because it was conveniently near work. Decided to drop off car to get estimates on work needed. In my list of things needed I was told I needed a new fan motor for AC since I mentioned it was blowing very low pressure. A motor would cost me about $400, valve cover gasket replaced, among a few other things. Due to cost I was skeptical being a female and got a second opinion at another shop closer to home who have always provided good service. Mind you, in picking up the car, mechanic forgot and had left glove compartment dismantled which means they had already checked the cabin air filter. Manager apologizes mechanic was probably in a rush to end shift and popped the pieces back in place and helped me put all my personal belongings sprawled all over the seat back into glove compartment.....unacceptable! Second opinion from a shop I frequent said I needed a new oil pan not a valve cover and a new cabin air filter not a $400 fan motor for my AC. My cabin air filter was black so it had not been changed in a very long time. It was obvious Sun Devil mechanic checked cabin air filter because glove compartment was dismantled. This was the worse and most disrespected form of service I have ever experienced. I think they saw a sign on my forehead that read "Naive Female Walking"......Wrong!! Two months later and A/C full blown and as strong as the day I purchased my car 4 years ago. I will never step foot into a Sun Devil Auto place of business again. read more

I had scheduled an oil change through All Tune and Lube in Tempe, who messed up my appointment and left me hanging without any attempt to accomodate. I called around for someone to help me out and Mario was the only one out of 4 shops I had called that said he could fit me in without an appointment. So professional, so calm and very gracious and service oriented, they had me in and out of their shop before I was even done downtown. My car is running so smoothly, and the service tech even told me about a tire defect he noticed! I found my new go-to mechanic. Went here before I took a trip to Cali to have my spark plugs replaced and a high mileage oil change. They were done within a few hours which was fine because I dropped the car off on my lunch break at work and intended to leave it there until I got off. They called and advised I needed my brake pads replaced because they were at 1mm. I knew they weren't just telling me anything because I knew my brakes were bad but not that bad. I originally wanted them to replace my engine mounts but they checked for me and said they're not in need of immediate attention right now & would rather me get my brakes done because it's a safety concern. Let me be clear. They could have charged me more for a repair. Yep. I trusted them to do a repair. They found a less expensive was to fix my car than by buying parts from the manufacturer and they saved me a lot of money. How often can you say that about a mechanic? These guys are the BEST! I called at 5:15pm last week worried that my car was leaking radiator fluid and that I was getting a fast flashing left turn signal. They said to bring it right in to ensure the car was safe to drive. They checked it out, said it was condensation, and then changed my partial burnt out signal light for FREE even after I begged them multiple times to let me pay. I am very upset with the services I received at Sun Devil Auto, and this was a simple oil change for my vehicle. I came in in November for an Oil change on my SVT Focus and soon after they performed the oil change, I kept having issues with my Oil pressure being low and oil spilling on my driveway. I then took my vehicle to a Mobil 1 express Lube and to my surprise, they showed me that the last shop that performed the oil change (Sun Devil Auto) had forced the bolt on the oil pan and it was stripped. I had to get the hole on the oil pan retreaded and also a new bolt. I will never go back to these guys, plus when I took my car in the mechanic who performed the oil change took my car for a spin and I can hear my vehicle being revved (not professional and no there was no purpose to do this). I'd recommend you steer away from these guys. read more

Drove into Sun Devil after seeing their sign for windshield services. Was very disappointed after I walked inside and basically had to beg for the staff to acknowledge me. As I walked out some mexican guy tried to hustle me but I was already annoyed and leaving. Place reminds me of a gravel lot car dealership - very shady and dirty. Ended up using a mobile service that was much more convenient for me and worked out well. read more

Today, once again, I experienced the fast, dependable and honest treatment I've come to rely on from this outstanding auto repair facility. Have been going for years, especially since their central location was so convenient when I worked downtown. However, now that I've retired I gladly drive the 12+ miles to this location where I know my car (and I) will receive the most reliable service and best customer care of any service or dealer facility I've ever been to. And, since I've been to many, I also know that these prices are fair and never "padded"; they do only what needs to be done, and do it well.
