I asked if they were out of spec and they said no but since I was out of state my car had a lot of damage from the salt. I've been here a few times. Generally their work was good. The only issue that they can't resolve is my AC blowing hot air when idling for longer than a couple of minutes. However, the biggest gripe I have is that they always have an upsell. I could never go here without a call saying that I should have a few additional services needed or additional parts that need to be replaced. Also, if you decide to go here, always ask for after-market replacement parts (if available). They always recommend OEM parts, which is always much more expensive. read more

I took my car there because it would not start. I was told it was the battery and then given a list of other things that were wrong with my car and potentially cause problems in the near future. I was told that the total for all the repairs would be $2500. I initially told them that I could only approve repairs up to $1000. I was then told that I could post date a check for up to 6 weeks for the remaining $1500. I then approved the rest of the repairs with the confirmation that I could post date a check and explained to them that we do not do credit cards. When I arrived to pick up my car and my total was no longer $2500 it was $2695. I paid the initial $1000 that I agreed to and had a post dated check for the remainder. I was told that they needed to have my post dated check approved thru a 3rd party company. I was never explained this and told them I would have never agreed to the additional amount if they would have explained this. I did not want a 3rd party company to have my personal checking account number! I also never approved any amount over $2500! Montgomery (so called manager) was very rude and basically stated that he would need to listen to the phone conversation to see if I was telling the truth. They had $1000 of my money and would not give me my car and said they had to "figure it out". It is now three days later and still have no car. Montgomery supposedly listened to the phone conversation and called me saying that it sounded like the post dated check procedure was not explained... Well I still don't have a car and they still want over the amount that was agreed upon! This was a very shady way to do business and feel completely taken advantage of. They are basically holding my car hostage. ***update*** Sun devil auto and the management there have come thru. They admitted their faults and made things right. I can appreciate a business that can admit when they are in the wrong and apologize. We will be returning for further service when needed on our vehicles. read more

As far as mechanics go, I have had mostly bad experiences with ones that are shady and dishonest, but I definitely don't feel this way when I go to Sun Devil Auto on Higley. Mike, the manager, runs a tight ship and makes sure his staff of mechanics are always on top of what needs to be done, and I never get charged for services I don't need. I needed to check if my battery was working ok. After calling two different locations (one charging $55 and the other charging over $100), I called Sun Devil on Higley and Chandler Hts and both Anthony who answered the phone and Jacob who helped me when I came in were both veg nice to deal with and very professional. When I wrote a review for these guys previously, I had recently found some news about my car. I went in to speak to them about my wheels and steering feeling shaky. They gave me an estimate after looking at my car and determining what they said was wrong with it. The estimate was about $1,700 for repairs. I decided to get a second opinion, I was told to change my bushings on the front of my car, it cost me only $60!!!!! not only was it a wayyyy cheaper fix but ALL of the things they stated needed changing were perfectly fine. It's sad when a young female who know's nothing of cars gets taken advantage of when trusting mechanics. Since I spent the $60 in bushings and labor all together, it solved the problem and it's been fine ever since!! Big fat 5 stars! We took our SUV there for a 2nd opinion and turns out we did not need the work done. They put the car on the bridge, examined it and put all that time in there. Then they called us back and said we did not need the break and rotor job the other place told us we needed. I was given advice but not pressured to buy anything - in fact they recommended a tire supplier and told me of issues that are common to my new environment. i feel that i was betray by this sun devil, took my car on june wiht a coil issue - i was replced along with sprk plugs, on sept went back due to issue with hoses connected to radiator. i decided to replace it and hose attached to it, nov 11th engine started smoking, took it in and was told that it was cooling hose off t-stat, which i replced and now the harmonic balancer it's out. i find this very strange. my next cal lwill be to the bbb---- read more

The issue for myself was a steering gear that sprung a nasty leak. I had this shop replace the steering gear for me and the leak was fixed as the unit was a fresh rebuild unit from a parts company, but the new unit had some "play" or slop that only really became a problem at highway speed and more of an issue while towing.... So I returned and they replaced it free of charge. But It wasn't really perfect and I wasn't real happy. After a drive they agreed and replaced again! now it's perfect. I understand that sometimes with parts there maybe a fluke, a bad part, or defect. No biggie. What I was struck by was the SUPIRIOR customer service in the way sun devil at Chandler heights and Higley handled my situation. They worked with my schedule, never gave me any argument or attitude and stood by their work. Kudos to Mike and his crew. read more

Visited this SDA for about the third or fourth time. Only for oil changes. I was told on the phone yesterday that if I came in early, they would easily get my truck done. I showed up this morning at 9:14 a.m. They said they were pretty busy but could easily get my oil change done if I left it for a "few hours". I stated I didnt want it to turn into all day, and they said no way. I was told I was #5 in the oil change wait. They finally called at 3:30 p.m. stating truck was ready. I said I needed shuttle to come pick me back up. At 4 p.m. I called again as no shuttle (they are just over two miles away). At 4:15 the shuttle shows up. I paid telling them I would not be back. They did exactly what I couldnt do because of other commitments....took all day. SEVEN hours for an oil change, nothing else!! Then they tried to upsell me telling me I needed new spark plugs, a coolant flush and new brake pads. I JUST did the plugs about a month ago myself....and I did a coolant flush less than a year ago! They lost me as a loyal customer. Why is it impossible to find and honest, reliable and competent shop anymore? read more

This Sun Devils Auto Repair is very badly and they weren't honesty with the customers liked me! I have radiation replaced by them and it was still under warranty, but when it was leaking and I took my car back for replacement, then they charged more for other things related to it that they told me why the radiation leaked! Anyway, I told them put the broken one back and I did not wanted to pay more money because it was under warranty! The reason they wanted to charged $500.00, and I thought it made no sense!!! I want to start by saying my car was adequately repaired and Derek was polite and professional. When I went out to get my car, there was a dent in the rear bumper. It definitely was not there when I left a few hours earlier. I went in to tell them and Derek got another man, I assume the manager, to come out and look at my new dent. The first thing he said was" I don't want to play he said, she said" and a comment about not knowing the condition of my Lexus when I arrived. He just seemed angry and defensive. I explained I was certain there had not been a dent there and I could just notify my insurance. I said I felt I needed to let them know and see if anyone knew what happened. He did not mention the possibility that someone there was responsible. I guess I was surprised by his accusatory, disrespectful way of dealing with the issue. He did say he would have someone there next week who might be able to fix it. We will see what he decides to do, but I certainly can not trust this business. read more

There is NO WAY i will bring any of my cars back to this place. Not only do they charge more but work done is horrible. Problems encountered. 1) Fix the automatic window regulator in the rear left where my daughter normally sits. Picked up the car and while making a right turn, door flings open when it is locked. Luckily my daughter was not in the car and no one got hit. Returned it but never told me what they fixed. Also a screwdriver was left in my daughters car seat. 2) Took the car for oil change and got a call that need to replace the radiator hose and cap. Even though did not have issues before and trusting I stupidly said yes. Got the car back and for the next 2 weeks had to bring back in because car overheated several times. And this was in the springtime. No way i would recommend this place. More horror stories but I hope this is enough. read more

NEVER AGAIN! :( The only reason they received one star is I needed to score it someway and that was the lowest. There was a time, many years ago during the Chuck and Mike era, where I believed they were the best of the best. Now as time has progressed and Chuck left, Mike is not the same helpful, kind individual he used to be. I was in the store yesterday for an oil change on my old truck. I ALWAYS use high mileage oil since the truck has over 200k miles. Well, I received a synthetic oil but not the high mileage even though I specifically told the counter person. Mike was the one that spoke at me (not with me) concerning their findings. I received nothing short of a lecture mimicking what a daughter would hear from a Dad when they were not pleased. While I look much younger than I am, I can assure that I am quite a grown adult who expects common courtesy and respect. Message to Mike, if you believe for one minute that I take your word as gospel without checking it out with my most trusted mechanic before any work in done, you are sorely mistaken. I have found many times that items on the print out had nothing wrong with them at the time. Does this mean Sun Devil has a practice of up-selling when nothing is needed? That would be my guess. I only came there to get a decent oil change at a decent price, not for lectures. Now I find I cannot even get the correct oil change for my truck so I had to go and have a duplicate oil change completed on my truck the same day to get the oil the truck needed. I will NEVER come back again!!!!!! read more
