Failed A/C Compressor at 13k Miles - Denied Full Coverage, I Took My Business Elsewhere In March 2023, Sun Devil Auto replaced the A/C compressor in my 2005 Ford F-350. Less than 13,000 miles later (well before their 24,000 warranty), and just two months past the 24-month time-based warranty, the compressor failed. When I brought it in, their own team found the system completely empty, recharged it, and added tracer dye to track the leak. A few weeks later, I returned and was told the compressor had failed. This clearly wasn't a sudden breakdown--it had been leaking for a while, meaning the failure began within the warranty period. Not to mention it is well documented that compressors last a minimum of 60,000 miles which points to an install issue and/or faulty part. Despite that, Sun Devil Auto refused to cover the repair in full and offered to pay 50%--which really just looked like them covering their cost on the part, not the labor or my out-of-pocket diagnostic costs. They stuck to a script, pointed at the calendar, and chose policy over doing what's right. Delay in getting vehicle into service prior to 24-month warranty period was due to significant medical issues in my family that understandably took priority. I explained that, but it didn't matter. I acted in good faith and followed their process. They chose not to do the same. I've since declined their offer to cover half (effectively covering their cost) and I am taking my vehicle to another, more reputable shop, where I'll be paying full price for the repair--because I'd rather give my money to a company that stands behind its work and treats people like customers, not case numbers. Sun Devil Auto had a chance to do the right thing. They didn't. Based on my experience, I wouldn't recommend them. There are better options out there. read more

Waited 5 hours at the Mall, they never did anything. No one showed up for work and one person had an "accident". SW corner Gilbert Rd and Warner Rd. Gilbert. All we needed was a tire plug. I made them put on the donut. Pathetic service. read more

I rated this repair shop, five stars because when I took my vehicle in for an alignment, based on what Kia had told me, they asked me questions about if my car was driving straight. If the wheel was off center. It was off center a little bit, but not a lot, but it drove straight. And then they accepted the coupon for $30 off the alignment. Even though it wasn't needed at the time. But then their tech Kai said he refused to work on my car because it was only off .10 and Michael, the other person. I spoke to also said he wouldn't work on it. Cause it wasn't off that much, and if they worked on it, it would have made the alignment worse. I appreciate their honesty and not trying to sell me an alignment when it wasn't needed. Five stars for these guys. Thank you, Michael and Kai. Keep up the honesty. Because of this when my prepaid maintenance from Kia runs out. I will be bringing my car over to these guys. read more

I had a what I believe a terrible experience with Sun Devil Auto. I went back to my brother's garage and was told that the brakes made awful noises after Sun Devil had put them on. I paid what I believe to be an arm and a leg for those rotors and brake pads. I t seems to me Sun Devil Auto did not mind taking my money but in my humble opinion failed to give me the outstanding service I feel I am entitled to. I am recommending Sun Devil Auto to no one. My biggest recommendation is to always get a second opinion. I brought in my 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe for an oil change two weeks ago and they recommended I replace my brakes and rotors. Mind you, my car was not at 60,000 miles yet. The total estimate was around $700 just to replace the front brakes and rotors. That was more than it cost to replace all four tires the year before! I went to another mechanic at the Hyundai dealership and the only thing that needed to be replaced were the brake pads. I purchased those from Napa Auto Parts for $59 and had a family friend put them on. I would like to think it was a genuine mistake on Sun Devil Auto's part but with such an egregious over estimate I cannot in good faith recommend this location or franchise to anyone, especially women. With the cost of everything on the rise, you should take your car somewhere you won't be over quoted on repairs. Do not bring your vehicle here for anything more than a routine oil change. read more

3 months later I'm having to scrap my car because the repair Sun Devil did caused irreparable damage to my cylinder head. Replacing it to fix their spark plug repair that failed is over $2,000. The car is barely worth that. It's sad this mechanic shop is so dishonest, overpriced, and now incompetent. Stay away from this shop unless you like to throw your money away. read more

Took my car in to find out was was wrong with it. They got back to me in a timely manner. The news was very bad but they really gave me a break on the diagnostic cost. It was very kind and something they didn't need to do but did anyway. I'm going to have to somehow buy another car and when I do I will have all maintenance done by Gilbert road Sun Devil. **Check your invoice and make sure they are doing what was on that invoice.** I brought my car in for service and they claimed to have replaced the thermostat housing, then not a month later my check engine light came on so I took it to a different auto center and they discovered that the water outlet was changed not the thermostat. When I went back to Sun Devil they confirmed that yes the water outlet was changed but not the thermostat. First they said what was on the invoice about the thermostat being replaced was entered incorrectly. It should have stated the water outlet was replaced. So when I ask them to send me an updated invoice stating what was actually done to my car they tell me they can't, and that in their system "Replace Thermostat Housing" is what will show up on the invoice when they enter replacing the water outlet. In my opinion, replacing a thermostat housing should not be listed on an invoice as the same thing as replacing a water outlet. I'll I'm asking for is transparency which they can't provide. I've discovered Sun Devil Auto has been bought by a private equity firm based in NY. I'm only going to locally owned auto centers from now on. read more

I was a bit concerned when the store only had a 1 rating of 1 star. These guys were awesome! Honestly. I got three quotes and they were the most affordable. They looked at two additional issues I had. One was a simple fix and no charge. They didn't lie or upsell. The other issues they didn't rush me to getting it fixed. Again no lying. The customer service was great. They were very available to work on my SUV (which may change once they start getting more positive reviews and establish themselves in the new store). I went in to get an oil change, which all went well. Things took a turn when they did their usual inspection. They told me that my air filter was dirty, a few other things needed to be replaced and they wanted to keep the car. I wanted to look at the "dirty" air filter. The filter was perfectly clean and the pictures was taken without cleaning the filter. They also mentioned there was corrosion on the battery plate. After brushing it off with simple green here is the dirty and corroded battery plate from the battery leak. Sundevil auto said I would need a welder soon if the battery plate doesn't get fixed (the plate is plastic and perfect condition shown by the picture below). Turns out my battery was five years old and they couldn't tell me this good information. These guys will scam you if you don't look. read more

I used Sun Devil years ago when I lived in Mesa. I have to admit that getting my oil change was a hassle anywhere else. I went to Sun Devil on Gilbert and they did a FANTASTIC JOB! So I talked to the general manager who said he had no respect for me and the marketing manager after the general manager said there was no one else above him. The only person in that office that had any customer service experience was the woman directing my calls and leaving messages.
