    So fun but intense!

We were in town and discovered that they had white water rafting. We were fortunately able to book a last-minute tour on Big Eddy Thriller, and it did not disappoint! We had a full raft of 7, and it was a lot of fun! This was my second time white water rafting. The first time I went rafting was mostly class 2 and 3 rapids, and I wanted something more exciting. The rapids on Big Eddy were 3+ that day, which were sufficiently thrilling for me. Our guide Binzley explained everything very clearly, especially the safety information, which I much appreciated. He also very clearly communicated commands through the rapids. Our shuttle driver Scott was also very friendly. The only area for improvement was that I wish we could book online same day rather than having to call, but the process was fairly simple and easy. I also wish I wore proper water shoes because my hiking boots were soaked by the end. While you can wear a swimsuit, I was advised to keep my outdoor shirt and hiking shorts on. While I don't know the alternative, I think it was a good decision. I (and everyone else in our raft) did get very wet! Also, they are very open that you can have one person in your group buy the photos and then share them with everyone in your group. Photos were $40 and definitely worth it! I highly recommend this company and would be open to doing this again here if I'm in the area.

We took our family of 5 on an hour long rafting trip with Sun Country Tours. Our kids, ages 12, 10 and 7, absolutely loved it. The rapids were the perfect mix of thrilling, but not terrifying for the kids. Our guide, Ben, was knowledgeable about rafting and the local geology. He had games for the kids to play in the raft while we floated and talked them through their nerves about the rapids. He was also super helpful about local hotspots and restaurants. I would HIGHLY recommend Sun Country Tours. We will definitely be back!

This was the first time for the kids and they had a blast. Evan was our tour guide and he was great. He arranged the group just right so the kids would get wet and enjoy the experience. Highly recommend doing this and he said the youngest rider he's had was 5yr old. This is something you definitely have to do at least once. You ride in a bus to the area, it then meets you down river and you take the bus back to the main site.

Sleepy river time. The "rapids" are very very light, regardless of time of year. Fine for fraidy cats - thrill seekers go elsewhere.

The folks at Sun Country were extremely friendly and welcoming. We also felt safe on their BET rafting tour and it was tons of fun.

The previous two times I did the big eddy, but this time was the most fun (though also had some hiccups).

On a Sunday morning, after exploring Bend and attending a concert the night before, my husband and…read moreI decided that we wanted to float the Deschutes River. Luckily, we managed to do a walk-up appointment and get our tubes for floating. They do offer online reservations, more than 24 hours in advance, but they had plenty of inner tubes so a reservation was not needed that particular day. From start to finish, they made the entire process extremely easy and seamless. From being able to park your car and get a ride with your inner tube to the drop off point and then being picked back up by the shuttle and returned to the parking lot, and everything in between. They provided us with a good safety briefing as well as the opportunity to leave our car keys since I had not thought about bringing a waterproof pouch. For just about $30 per person, it was well worth the experience and took us about two hours, but we did stop after the rapids and spend some time just swimming before continuing on. If you are a local or just visiting the Bend area, I cannot recommend floating the river enough.

Meh. I thought the price was fair for the tubing experience, but they could provide such…read morebetter...several things, for customer enjoyment. (I've done the tube float down the Virgin River at Zion, and canoed and rafted countless rivers and lakes, several guided, some private.) The outhouses were full and needed to be serviced. So gross. We were there on a Sunday morning; perhaps yesterday was super busy?! Ew. Nobody offered to keep our keys. This is weird to me. Every raft/tube outfitter I've ever gone with has checked our keys for us. The tubes worked well and were fine. They're backless, though. Nicer models with backs and cup holders are so much better. The tip prompts are obnoxious. I paid for a service. Tipping is for people who go above and beyond. When I pay for a float, I shouldn't have a tip option presented right at booking. Weird. Then the driver also has a personal Venmo QR code on the bus. The only way I'd consider tipping is if I was personally fitted into a pfd, the driver handed me a water bottle or a slice of watermelon or something after the float, etc. They literally did nothing but hand us a life jacket, tell us where to get out of the river, and drive us to and from. They've been having issues with people missing the take out at Drake Park. We did see an employee on a kayak paddle out to help someone come in (she should tip him!), but otherwise there is no sign or anything, so if you're not paying attention you absolutely could miss it. To compare directly, on the Virgin River, an employee was standing IN the river, ready to help us, a huge sign was present, and another employee was on the shore to help carry tubes back to the trailer. Surely the city of Bend would allow them to erect a sign, even if only during business hours?! Or stack some of the orange tubes on the shore so floaters can see them clearly.

Central Oregon Rentals is A+++. We rented five sleds for the Saturday between Christmas and New…read moreYears. The sleds were loaded into a five-place enclosed trailer and ready to go when we arrived at the shop. Michael the owner gave us a thorough run down of the trail systems (I've ridden in Minnesota a lot, but first time in Oregon), a walk through of the sleds, and other general tips. They also had a complete lineup of decent rental equipment, although renting isn't ever has good as having your own gear that you're used to. All of the sleds were quality Ski-Doo long tracks. We had two 850's that rocked the trails and the powder, two 600's for the less experienced riders, and one 900 two-up. Unloading and loading was easy, and it was a short 25 minute drive to the snow park. Great rental experience - would definitely rent again from Central Oregon Rentals. Thoughts about the Deschutes trail system around Mt. Bachelor: 1. We rode on what had to have been one of the busiest days of the year - bad planning on our part. By the time we got to the Wanoga sno-park the parking lot was full, but it really wasn't full: they could have fit at least 1/3 more rigs if folks would learn how to park. There was literally 10' between some rigs. We ended up parking along one of the roadways inside the snow park which worked. If you could beat the mountain traffic and make it higher up it would be better. See #2 below. 2. The trails leading up to the Mt. Bachelor - especially Trail 5 - were AWFUL. So many riders chewing it up, even though they were groomed the night before. They were even worse coming back down. If you like going 10 mph max on washboards you'll love them. Once we got past the mountain, Trail 5 was better, but not great. 3. The 250 miles of the Mt. Bachelor trail system is beautiful, but TBH after riding Minnesota, Wisconsin, and the UP, the trail system around Mt. Bachelor isn't the place to go for hard core riding. We rode all day and maybe got 40 miles - in the upper Midwest we'd get at least 100 miles on a low day. This is partly due to the number of people and the trail conditions, but there just aren't the same miles of trails if you really like to ride. 4. The stop at the Elk Lake resort was great. Definitely worth they trip out there. Would we ride the Deschutes Trail System again? -Yes, and we would definitely rent from Central Oregon Rentals. -Yes, but on a weekday or during the shoulder season. Definitely NOT on a holiday weekend. -Yes, but explore starting at a different location.
