As a local for nearly 40 years, I wasn't sure about using a tour, but every detail of our starlight snowshoe adventure went so well. The online res system was easy to use. A change to our party 1 week prior was dealt with quickly and kindly, including a follow up call just to be sure we were taken care of. Our tour leader was super friendly and knowledgeable about local ecology. I learned so much! The snowshoes had great bindings-- no one had them come loose. (Poles would have been helpful. I would bring my own next time) The bonfire was amazing and the goodies were tasty. Nature did her part with a sparkling clear night, brilliant moon and meteor. I went on two tours, the first a night time canoe trip, which was incredibly beautiful. We floated in Hosmer Lake -- like glass, saw billions of stars, the milky way and a comet or two shoot across the sky. The guide, Krystin was fantastic. A few days later, I went on a day time kayak trip with them and it was equally fantastic. Super nice people and in addition to the relaxing time in nature, learned a little about the town of Bend. Absolutely amazing tour with Wanderlust! We decided on the moonlight canoe tour for our group of 10 (bachelorette party!). Sadly the sky was not clear and it even rained on us, but we still had a fun little adventure because of how great they plan this tour and our guide Dylan! He could have easily been overwhelmed by our group size and mildly unhinged energy, but he rolled with it like a pro! The hot cocoa and bonfire after the canoeing was a perfect touch. We went on the kayaking tour with Dylan in Paulina lake it was outstanding. (Lake ina caldera on an active volcano!) He is a fantastic guide! He provided us with the history of the area - geological and anthropological. We kayaked across the lake to the hot springs. Found obsidian and pumice from the volcano and enjoyed the hot springs (no sulphur). And Jeannie was so kind in helping us get sorted - thank you Dylan and Jeannie! It was the most wonderful day. I cannot recommend this tour company highly enough- spending our day with them made our trip to Bend so special. So much so that we booked the Lava Tubes trip with them for Sunday!! The cave tours are something you cannot do on your own as many of them are closed due to misuse by the general public. Wanderlust takes the upmost pride in sharing the best of Central Oregon with locals and visitors. Their guides are always friendly and knowledgeable, sharing a wealth of information. Krystin did a fantastic job holding back on her rowing skills for the group! Was extremely knowledgeable about the history of the area. I'd give 10 stars if I could. We went on the NYE snowshoe trip and Dylan was our guide. He was the best guide we have ever had on a tour! I was nervous about the van drive up to the mountain at night on ice. Dylan was a really good driver and put my mind at ease. He is incredibly knowledgeable - we learned so much about geology, wildlife, the environment etc. We had a medical emergency in our group and Dylan responded calmly and quickly. Wow! We had the best tour guide. He gave us guidelines on how to canoe, but really served as a naturalist. He pointed out animals and trees with their own histories related to the Deschutes. He talked about geology and underground water ways, it ended up being much more than just canoeing down the Deschutes River! This was a great tour coupled with a short hike to breathtaking falls. Neither my boyfriend nor I had canoed before, and likewise we were the slowest of the group. This was a good exercise of working together and not killing each other on our little boat! :-D read more

If you're coming to Bend and want to experience the outdoors, this company is the place to help you! I wish I was in town longer to do other tours, but the kayak tour was a must do for me. I own a kayak and 2 hours is my usual paddling time, which was about the same time we spent on the lake on a beautiful, cool morning. Another couple I met did the moonlight canoe trip and they loved it. The business is right next to Fred Meyers, so there is plenty of safe parking. Our guide Katie picked us up at the office and drove us to Paulina Lake. She said the other lakes they go to were closed because of the fire. We all wanted to go there anyway! The lake was peaceful and I was excited to see 2 bald eagles within 10 mins on the water. Katie talked about the area on the way to the lake and answered all our questions. When we got to the lake, she set up the kayaks and gave us a intro to kayaking. As we paddled, she talked about the caldera and the activity that created the landscape. My family and I took a guided snowshoeing tour through the snowy forest. Hannah was our guide, and she was great, The snowshoeing was well explained and not overly exerting. She gave us kind of an eco-tour of the forest explaining the different trees and elements along the way. Our destination was the bonfire where we drank hot chocolate and ate sugary treats. We looked at the stars and she explained the different constellations. Then we had a quick snowshoe back and jumped in the van and came home. All in all it was a 5 star experience. The prohibition lava tube tour is a must do. Katie (adventure guide) was incredible - extremely knowledgeable and friendly. The lava tube tour was very cool (literally, inside was a balmy 45F). There were a number of spots that require squatting under low ceilings, crawling over rock piles, and even crawling on hands and knees (all optional features of course). Oregon spirits distillery tour afterwards was very enlightening and delicious (comes with a tasting of whiskies and a cocktail of your choice). Highly recommended. read more

We did the nighttime cave tour on Saturday night - our guide was Colton. He did a great job and took great care of us. He made sure we stayed together and went at a pace suitable for all. It's a fun and educational tour - we recommend it. Wear layers because you're going to sweat even though it's 45 degrees Also, highly recommend a pair of hiking boots since it's pretty rocky and uneven. So fun to try beer tasting in the middle of the Forest while learning about old growth trees, wildlife and their tracks! I called several months ago to book a tour for our family. I spoke with Courtney, who said we could do the lava lakes canoe tour. I paid the money via credit card and signed the waiver. Four days before the tour. I called her about the weather, she said the weather in lava lakes was windy, and so she was going to move us from a canoe to a kayak. I called back two days later to confirm that it would be a kayak. No problem so this morning I spent a long time reading about the lava Lakes murders to my family who was going on the trip. At 1 o'clock we showed up ready to paddle lava lakes and we were told by the guy at the front desk that they don't do lava lakes they've never done lava lakes. He's never heard of all the lakes, and that that was just plain wrong. He didn't know where we were going to go, but he knew it wasn't lava lakes . So talk about a bait and switch. I can enjoy a group activity, but I think my partner in crime would rather be hit over the head with a shovel than make small talk and wander around town with a group of strangers. With this in mind, I was more than a little wary booking a Wanderlust Tour. But, the idea of trying to "hit" a couple of brew pubs and tasting IPAs and then driving? Well, that's a pretty dumb idea, right? So with some trepidation, and some determination to find out more about the Bend craft beer scene, I booked a Wanderlust Tour of Bend microbreweries. Sure, we could figure this out on our own probably, I reasoned, with a map (Bend has a beer stamp pass with the names of key spots in town) but we certainly could not lose by having a tour guide and a driver. This type of logic appeals to my guy, and since it was a beer tour and not a B&B (egads, I know better than THAT) I got the (slightly cynical) green light. Wanderlust runs the Bend Brew Bus, and I have to say, the two guides we had were all-stars in terms of their attitude, their knowledge and their low-key but extroverted personalities. This was a good experience for us (more importantly, my guy really enjoyed it) so much so, that I'd recommend it. It's still a group activity, yes, but there is a real value add in the information shared on a Wanderlust Tour --the tour guides we had were excellent. We made it to four very different spots in a three hour period, and we had access to the brewing facilities we would not have otherwise have had without significant advanced planning. Although I would have loved to have it time out such that we could meet a few more brewmasters, we did have a great indepth tour by a brewmaster at one of the four breweries. Round that out with a couple one off trips over the next few days in town, and we had a foundation in the craft beer goings on in Bend. read more

VERY DISAPPOINTING CUSTOMER SERVICE. The tour guide asked to take a photo of my mom & I while canoeing. The guide dropped my phone in the lake while collecting the phones from the other members of our group. The guide then asked the group to jump in the freezing water to collect my phone. I felt so bad for the lady who jumped in the freezing water to look for my phone. Honestly, I wanted nothing more for the group to continue the trip. However, we spent most of our time on the lake searching for my phone because the guide persisted on looking for it. The tour guide then left us at the end of the lake which was infested with mosquitos to go find my phone again after I repeatedly said it was okay & that we can discuss it once we are back to the office. The group then decided to get back in the canoe because we couldn't take getting mosquito bitten after about 20 minutes of being stranded out there. The ride back to the office was incredibly uncomfortable. It was obvious that the group had a terrible experience. Sadly, it gets worse! We enter the office with our tour guide, and the owner does not come out of her office to address the issue. After several minutes of awkwardly waiting, my mom and I had to walk to her office door to get her attention. In our conversation, she did not act apologetic & basically told us it was OUR fault that her employee dropped my phone in the lake. After a long discussion, she told us she would reimburse us for our trip. It has been two days later & we STILL haven't been reimbursed. LUCKILY, we charged it on the credit card and can dispute the charge. Imagine if this was a more serious incident. Wanderlust does not look after their employees or take responsibility for their own accidents. read more

This was the highlight of our trip snowshoeing in Bend!!! We loved it more than skiing. I am still smiling ear to ear just thinking about our amazing experience. At first I was worried about my 8 year old keeping up with the tour but she ended up being one of the leaders in our group! Granted we were both very tired on our hike back it was truly an experience we will never forget and I am so happy to be able to make this special memory for me and my daughter! Jared was our tour guide....he was everything you could possibly want in a great guide. He was funny, patient, informative, entertaining and awesome with kids! I loved that it was a half day experience approx 9am-1pm which left you plenty of time in the day to do other things. Meet up is at their office which is right next to a grocery store if you wanted to pick up water and snacks before. Try not to drink too much coffee before as there was limited bathroom breaks. The hike itself wasn't too difficult we had plenty of rest time. There are options of going uphill and sliding down or jumping down! We had a snowball fight at the end. Our group was small just 6 of us which made it an intimate experience. Walking through the forest was peaceful with fresh powder snow so beautiful! I made friends with some of the girls on our tour and we still keep in touch! Jared even surprised us with hot chocolate and marshmellows at the end of our tour...what a nice treat! I cannot believe how unprofessional this tour group is. I traveled to Bend for a little adventure and fun, instead I waited two weeks for a a tour which Wanderlust booked for me. I showed up on the tour date only to find out they cancelled the tour with no warning. This was a tour they rescheduled me for when a previous tour I booked with them was also cancelled. We went on a night snowshoeing adventure with Katie on Christmas Eve. What an AMAZING experience. Katie drove us and the rest of our group up to Mt. Bachelor after the snow park was closed. She took us through the woods for about a mile and a half. She stopped along the way to chat with us about different wildlife tracks we were seeing as well as other bits of info about the plant life. She was incredibly knowledgeable. About halfway through the hike we stopped in a little snow seating area for some hot cocoa and to look at the stars. The hike wasn't too challenging but it also wasn't super easy. Katie was great about giving everyone time to catch up if needed and go at our own pace. This is definitely an experience we will remember and would love to do again sometime. read more

We did the morning canoe trip with Jen and she was fantastic! She is very knowledgeable on all facets of the trip and I highly recommend her. The one-star deduction is not because of Jen but because the company was unwilling to let us drive to the lake separately. We had a 5 year old that can't get the vaccine so we would have preferred to have driven our own car rather than go in the shuttle (where masking is not required). The woman at the store said that would not be possible because of parking permits. However when we got there, there was clearly plenty of parking. At a minimum they should have required everyone in the shuttle to wear masks. read more

We had a wonderful time snowshoeing with Wanderlust! We've gone out on our own adventures in the area before but those outings weren't nearly as enjoyable as the tour we went on with Wanderlust! They are equipped, prepared, and knowledgeable. We happened to go on a night snowshoeing excursion which took us off the beaten path through the forest. They brought us out to a designated spot where they had fires, drinks and snacks ready for us. Our naturalist tour guide was Jeremy, super friendly and really knows his trees, haha.
