Great tours-- we've been back to do several and they are always well done. Great idea for a mini adventure!

What an amazing experience! We did the cave tour last week and our boys haven't stopped talking about it since. It is amazing what's hiding right below the surface of what looks like just an open field. Hannah, our tour guide, was awesome. She was really knowledgeable and so kind. She happily answered the incessant questions from our kiddos and ensured that everyone was doing ok throughout the experience. Just a couple notes to give a better idea of what to expect, because if you're like me and imagining what I have learned is called a "show cave" you are in for a rude awakening. *There is some required rock climbing, or maybe it's better to describe it as maneuvering? Not really sure what to call it - there's several large boulders you have to get over to get to the back of the cave...call it what you will lol. *You will get super dusty from the ash - don't expect to leave clean, it's part of the deal. Here's a win for team mask, you have to wear it legally in OR anyway but it's also great to keep that dust out of the airways. *There are a couple spots that you have to army crawl to get through. This gave me some pretty severe anxiety which I coped with through playing a little Norah Jones and zoning out... if you have even the tiniest hint of claustrophobia bring your anti-anxiety trick along and push through, it's worth it to say you made it to the end. Overall, I am sure this is an experience my family will be talking about 20 years from now and knowing that makes my mama heart happy. This is truly an amazing business and we were so happy that we did a couple of their tours on our recent trip to Bend. My husband and I did the event in which we kayaked and then watched Hunter Noack's In a Landscape concert on the top of Mount Batchelor. Life really doesn't get much better than that :) We had Courtney as our guide and she was so friendly, knowledgeable and helpful during the entire trip. We absolutely enjoyed every minute of it! A few days later, we did the private tour of Skeleton Cave with Alexis as our guide and she was equally as wonderful. It was such a cool experience going into that deep, dark cave with just my husband and two kids! Alexis was funny, knowledgeable and patient with my kids as they asked a million questions. And, she ate an ant for our viewing pleasure :) Both of these tours were the highlight of our Bend trip and we can't wait to do more with them when we return someday. Also, just to mention the office staff was very friendly and helpful as well. Garret spent about a half hour with us just giving some tips about the area and sights to see. Everything about this tour was just perfect. Our family of four (2 young kids) kid the canoeing tour. It was a crystal clear morning with just the right amount of crispness in the air and sun. My kids, being city kids, were a bit nervous about going on the river. but from the time we checked in and met our tour guide Alexis, the kids were excited. The tour, the front office, everything exceeded our expectations. Hands down we will book another tour again. We had such a great experience on the Starlight and Moonlight Canoe tour. It was truly a unique experience and our guide, Kiana was fantastic. She had a lot of great energy and enthusiasm and helped make the whole experience that much more enjoyable. Paddling on the lakes at sunset and in the evening is so peaceful, I wish I could have stayed out there forever. Highly recommended. read more

Terrible experience. Do not do the tours. Company Employee dropped our phone in the lake. Spent the rest of the tour looking for it and left our party in a mosquito infested area. Company would not reimburse phone. Did not acknowledge the mistake employee made. Wouldn't use this company. read more

Fantastic! A must do trip... moon lite evening snowshoe tour with bonfire and beverages. Chaney, a naturalist offered wonderful insights as we hiked /snowshoed through the forest. Jared was the perfect camp host at 'bonfire and beverages' part of the evening. The night skies were clear, windless, nearly full moon, and second blue moon in just the past few months. Our group completed the "hat trick" with Wanderlust Tours by enjoying three different experiences during our Bend vacation. Early in the booking process we toyed with the idea of booking a private, group tour and Courtney did a fantastic job of describing different and innovative ideas based on what we what adventures we wanted to partake in during our stay. In the end we selected the public tours of the Newberry Volcano Tour with Courtney, Lava Tubes Tour with Erika and Kayaking at Elks Lake with Danny. All three guides were incredibly educated about all the "olgys" like geology, biology, geography and many more that I can't name. This resulted in fascinating tours told in a passionate and true-to-self manner by each of the guides. We all learned so much! We weren't the only guests that enjoyed our tours, when another couple was on our volcano tour, they were on their 2nd tour with Wanderlust and they loved their experiences as well. Coming home from vacation is always tough, but a few days into the normal grind of work life, I had a postcard sent from Courtney, Danny & Erika which was very special to receive. Took our second trip with Wanderlust on 12/31/14, it was a cave tour with Jared. Much like the first trip a year earlier midnight canoeing, this trip was excellent and Jared was a great tour leader. I highly recommend these trips to help fill out a trip to Bend. Even though we know the area fairly well, these trips are extremely informative and fun. Group sizes are small and the tour is very personal, not like a big group. The canoe trip summer of 2013 was a lot of fun. It rained but we made the best of it and the leader brought hot chocolate to share while we were all out in the middle of the lake! The wildlife you can glimpse on a full moon night is truly spectacular. The cave trip last week was also wonderful. It was to Boyd cave which is a "wild" cave meaning no lighting or scheduled public tours of the cave. This is a 4+ hour trip but probably less than 1m total spent in the lava tube. Jared did a great job of pointing out features of these ancient tubes. We even saw hibernating bats. The van ride was less than 30m each way even in extreme snow conditions. I'd recommend this trip for families especially as my 11yr old son was absolutely fascinated and Jared even let him lead the group at certain points. Can't say enough good things about Wanderlust and would sign up for another trip again my next trip to Bend for sure. read more

Just had an awesome day kayaking on Sparks Lake with Pat our tour guide from Wanderlust Tours. The customer service was great. I called as soon as they opened at 8am and they were able to get us in for a private kayaking tour for 9:30am. We meet at the office and Pat drove us to Sparks Lake. The drive was great. Pat was full of knowledge about Bend, Oregon, the trees and the surrounding nature, and he was fun to talk to. It was me and my 2 sisters, my 7 yo son and my 18 yo nephew. The view was breathtaking and I was a great first experience for one of my sisters and my nephew. This experience is great for all levels. I would definitely recommend Wanderlust Tours for anyone interested in a canoe or kayaking tour. They also offer a variety of other outdoor experiences too, check them out! read more

So my family decided to take the super fun nighttime snowshoeing tour while visiting Bend. Erica was our guide and was great. She taught us a lot about the mountain ecosystems, animals and the hydro-cycle. I highly recommend checking out the mountain at night. We'll probably take the lava tube tour next. Bonus: Erica was a great teacher and quizzed us about what she taught us earlier in the evening. Most of the answers were the "Pine Martin" aka the Snow Weasel. But don't cheat! Listen, learn and answer honestly. Just know that if you answered "snow weasel" you would get a C+ or B on her quizzes. read more

My partner's company gave us tickets to the Perseids meteor shower hike. Considering the price of the tickets ($110 per person), I had high hopes for this hike. Arriving to the office, there was a large group of people outside and inside waiting for their tours to begin. Clearly this was a popular place. We checked in and were told where to wait for our guide as we would leave around 7:45pm. Our group headed out to a large van in the parking lot. There were 15 of us including the guide in this van and another full van heading to the same hike. We arrived at the trailhead of a public trail. Immediately, I realized anyone could have done this exact hike without paying the hefty price to be driven out. Still, I figured there must be a reason. We were given the option of beer from the local brewery or hot chocolate. A nice touch, but again, not anything you couldn't do on your own. The group began hiking with stops periodically for the group to get a break and the guide to give some information about the local plants, animals, and volcanoes. It was nice to learn some info. Once we were at the top, the guides told us to spread out and find a spot to watch the meteor shower. It was around 8:45 at this point and the showers wouldn't start until 10. We found a bench to sit on and watched the sunset. One of the guides came over and offered us hot chocolate (note: we were not in an out of the ordinary spot here). The wind picked up quite a bit but we were still able to hear other hikers talking as they were on the trail and there was another couple sitting on a bench to the side and behind us. The shower started around 10; unfortunately it was a full moon night, but we saw 5 good meteors. At 10:37 I looked back and noticed the couple behind us was gone. We decided to walk the short distance back to where the guides were and no one was there. One guide popped out from across the hill and asked if we were part of the tours. We said yes and he told us the group had left a while ago without us! They were all waiting back down at the vans and he had to come look for us after doing a count at the vans. Now, I don't know Wanderlust's policy for head-counts on night hikes, but doing a headcount AFTER you've already hiked back down the trail seems like terrible practice. We never heard voices calling out announcing their departure, although it was windy. After we got back to the vans, our guide asked us if we had ventured to the other side of the butte and out of range. We said no, we had been at one of the benches in the area. No apology for leaving us behind from either guide. The drive back was palpably uncomfortable and the guide ended off back in the parking lot that it had been an "eventful night" with everyone chuckling. Again, I don't know Wanderlust's policy, but some advice. Head-counts before leaving the main area. It wasn't a large group. Two people would be easy to notice as gone if the time would have been taken to do so. In addition to a headcount, a time to report back by. The itinerary said 4 hours beginning at 7:30. Putting the time back as 11:30. As a Perseids shower hike, the group left about 20 minutes after it began. Again, bringing into question the $110 per person price. One way this price would be acceptable is if the location was at least a private hike just for wanderlust tours. I would never suggest anyone do a hike with this company. Seriously, unless you're retired or a brand new hiker in the area and are willing to shell out $110 for a public hike, it's absolutely not worth it. Getting left behind was just icing on top. read more

Scheduled a six person kayak trip. Upon arrival the place was a zoo. There was 1 person handling the admin for about 30-40 people. They could not find our reservation- fortunately we had an email confirmation with us. It's a good thing the guides sprung into action. They processed everybody and found additional kayaks for our party. A special thank you to Colton who took control of the situation along with a couple of other guides and we had a great time after the total admin screwup. We booked another trip the next day to check out the Newberry Volcano and we drove up the very top of the volcano on some very narrow and dirt roads. Very exciting but when I got out of the van to check out the view I noticed the tires were almost bald- very low tread. Should have been replaced prior to 22 season. If it weren't for the guides this review would be a zero. Company needs to get their act together. Once again a special thanks to Colton who was very knowledgeable and a really good guy. I'm not gonna lie, I'm pretty stoked I get to be the 50th review! I participated in a Wanderlust tour for a Tourism class. It was one of their canoeing tours. This tour was at Hosmer Lake on a Fall Saturday. There was about 15 students in a few different canoes. The guides gave us a very unique experience where we received some very informative interpretive talks. They talked about the ecology of the area, as well as some central Oregon history and national park history as well. This tour was much more then just a laid back float on a lake, but a shared experience of knowledge. I am grateful for being able to participate and take part in a tour that left me impacted on an intellectual level rather then just a simple minded trip. I would recommend this tour to anyone! This is a must do in Bend! Whether you are just visiting Bend or a local like me, Wanderlust has something for everyone. I have been on several of the tours that they have to offer and not one has disappointed me! the staff is amazingly nice and friendly. Not to mention incredibly knowledgeable. You can tell right from the get go that the guides enjoy their job. Every tour is an adventure. Each guide has their own unique personality and style so every tour feels like a new one. Between the cave tours, canoe trips and full moon snow shoe adventures, I am always finding another reason to sign up for yet another tour. When family and friends come into town this is a must on our bucket list of Bend. Next on my list of tours is the Bend Brew Bus. I have heard all sorts of good things about this tour and can't wait to experience it myself! With happy helpful guides, local craft beer with tasty apps, and a bus to shuttle us around... I emailed Wanderlust asking of there were any tours that would be good to do with my 2 & 4 year old. They called me shortly after telling me about 3 different trips that are good for that age. We decided to go with a canoe tour. Our guide was Rachel and she was great. We met in the FM parking lot and she drove us up to Sparks lake. (We were able to put car seats in the tour van.) The tour was very informative, fun and educational. My kids both enjoyed it too. I was worried they would melt-down, but Rachel kept them all entertained to prevent that. On the way back to down she even stopped so my son could run into the bushes for a bathroom break. We all had lots of fun and both kids were asleep before we got back into Bend. We will definately be booking a tour with them again! read more

3.6 Stars Wanderlust Tours can be a fun thing to do, with caution. I've gone on two tours with Wanderlust. The 1st one was a cave tour. It was amazing and our guide was helpful and nice! It was a fun day! The 2nd one was a Volcano & hiking tour I think? I got car sick every time we drove to a different place and it was boring anyways. This tour was not worth the time or money. Heck, I rather stay at our rented condo in Sunriver watching stupid 'Jersey Shore' than go on that tour! In conclusion, Wanderlust Tours again can be fun and provide good service IF you remember to pick the right tour! read more

Their guided explorations in and around Bend provide opportunities you'd be hard-pressed to come up with on your own (think nighttime canoe trip across a volcanic lake, to land on a shore of tiny bubbling hot springs - then dessert and drinks while soaking your feet before a quiet paddle home). On a recent trip to Bend we booked two tours with Wanderlust. One was a cave tour and the other was a moonlight canoe trip - they were both fantastic! Both of the guides who took us out for the different tours were very friendly. They provided a ton of background about the surrounding area, recommended different places to visit, took time to answer our questions, and really interacted well with both the adults and children in the group. I would definitely recommend giving them a try and will be booking a trip with them next time we are in Bend. read more

We were in Oregon last month and made a special trip to Bend to do the Skeleton Cave Tour. As someone who is scared of small, tight spaces, I thought I would hate it but it was amazing. My friend actually did the research and set everything up and I could not have been more pleased. On the drive out and during the walk to the cave, I learned more than I expected and we weren't even in the cave! Our tour guide was Chip and he was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. He talked about the wildlife and we ate ants! (proving that I could totally be on Fear Factor). With his expertise, I was not scared of climbing up into even the tightest of spaces. My favorite part was probably experiencing total darkness which was the coolest sensation! Our group all took pictures together and one of the group members sent them out. We had an absolutely wonderful time. I'd do it again, recommend to others, and I would LOVE to do some of their other tours, like the midnight canoe trip! read more

I had the best time on the snowshoe and brew tour. Alexis was our guide and she didn't disappoint. She shared all kinds of information and facts about the area as we drove and snowshoed. I learned so much. The beer tasting was the perfect touch to a hike in the snow! I had a blast and I can't wait to come back to Bend and go on another tour with Wanderlust! This was our first tour with Wanderlust and our first time snowshoeing. We were met at the Fred Meyer parking lot in Bend, and our guide Jack was right on time. Jack was very easy going and personable all the while sharing with us history and lore about the local geology and environment. Jack is a professional in every regard, he kept us on a good pace and mixed in plenty of fun while we were wandering at the base of Mt. Bachelor. Being quite out of shape, overweight (300lbs), and with a bad back I was nervous whether or not I could keep up with the rest of the group.. Recognizing my hesitation, Jack was discreet in falling back from the group and taking a moment to encourage and motivate my wife and I to stick with it. It was just what we needed to get past the initial pain of starting such a workout! Throughout the trip, we were offered optional routes that didn't involve as steep of inclines. Coincidentally, taking these optional routes gave me a great angle on taking some pictures of the group. Jack kept up a good pace and took plenty of breaks to appreciate the beauty around us and to teach us about the environment we were in. Although I only tried it a few times, running downhill in powder on snowshoes was a lot of fun! The positive attitude, sense of humor, and how Jack shares his knowledge really left an impression on us. My wife and I enjoyed everything about the snowshoeing trip, we are definitely going to do it again! read more

My husband and I went on the Lava Tube Caves tour on Friday. Our guide was Jeff. He was awesome. We really enjoyed talking to him and he was incredibly friendly. We learned more than we ever have on the many tours we've taken. Jeff was extremely knowledgable and had answers to all our questions. Jeff allowed us to explore on our own a little and forge our own path, which was super fun. It was really cool to learn all the things we did about bats/animals living in the caves. He was also very prepared and changed out dimming headlights immediately. I would definitely recommend Wanderlust Tours and I will use them again. read more

We aren't customers but we saw a very positive situation with Wanderlust this week. We were kayaking at Elk Lake Wednesday and saw a guide come in with a couple and two dogs for canoeing. The couple and their dogs dumped and swamped the canoe in the first 5 minutes and the guide did an absolutely fabulous job of getting them and the dogs back into their boat quickly and safely. The dogs were not happy about things but the guide was patient, calm, professional, and kind with them and the couple. After getting them back in and safe, they continued their day on the lake. I have had the wonderful opportunity to go on several tours with Wanderlust. I have done several cave tours, a bonfire snowshoe, and a daytime snowshoe. All were well worth the cost and I learned a lot. The trip started with being picked up in the Wanderlust van and heading to our location. Along the way the guides were very knowledgeable in sharing about the different natural and historical features we passed. They also made great recommendations for other fun things to do in Bend. Our cave and snowshoe trips were both incredible experiences and very different. At the end of the snowshoe trip we got to enjoy a nice cup of hot chocolate to warm back up. To my surprise, Wanderlust even sent me a post card (hand written by the guide who led our tour) thanking me for coming on the tour. Wanderlust is one of our favorite places to tour with whenever we go to Bend. We are looking forward to doing a canoe and kayak trip in the near future as well. Our guides were Jack and James (Both were incredible, funny, and extremely knowledgeable) I would recommend a Wanderlust tour for ANYONE (Kids, parents, grandparents, old, young, etc). We joined an afternoon tour to Skeleton Cave. Our tour guide was Rachael--we were so, so impressed with her. Her friendly demeanor, depth of knowledge, and obvious passion for caves and their surrounding areas was so refreshing. We had a couple of young kids on our tour and she was so patient and attentive to them while still making the tour fun and interesting for the adults. We arrived in Bend on a spur of the moment weekend trip. We had no set plans, but we did know we wanted to explore some of the Volcanic areas. My wife discovered Wanderlust while researching some of the local Lava Tubes. They are the only company that can take you to one of the caves that is still pretty much in its original state. We called the day we arrived in Bend and made arrangements for a tour the following day. The person we talked to on the phone was very friendly and helpful. We arrived the next day at our appointed time and were informed that we were the only guests for the afternoon tour. We met our guide Jared, and he led us to the van for our short drive to the Cave. On our way there he was very interactive with us and also provided some history and facts about the area. We learned that his undergrad degree was in Parks with a minor in Outdoor Education, so we were very encouraged that we had a knowledgeable guide. Jared proved himself to be extremely knowledgeable, not only about the geology of the area, but also about the plants and wildlife, oh and the insects (the ants are tasty). Once we got to the parking area, Jared led us to the entrance and proceeded to unlock the gate. We entered the cave then spent the next hour or so walking down into the depths and learning all about this particular lava tube. It was both entertaining, and educational. I would highly recommend anyone thinking about taking a tour of the lava caves, to avoid the masses at the Lava River Cave and to book a tour with Wanderlust. You will not regret it. My husband and I took an early anniversary trip to Bend in mid-August and had the most amazing time with Chip! I called Wanderlust Tours on Friday, August 8th and spoke to Katie (?) who was extremely helpful about the last minute questions I had about booking one of their canoe tours - which I did that very day online. It was so nice to be able to just put a small % down and pay when we arrived OR pay online completely. We arrived into Bend on August 11th and having booked the Moonlight Canoe Trip, our hopes were high that we would be able to either have a great view of the Super Moon or the Perseid Meteor Shower. Sadly, the clouds rolled in after a gorgeous 90 degree day and the lightening and thunderstorm hit just as we were heading to Wanderlust to meet-up with our tour. We were concerned about the weather and they were extremely accommodating; especially if we wanted to re-schedule for the next night. After some hemming and hawing, we decided to go out and embrace the adventure of Bend...after some persuasion of our wonderful tour guide Chip, who advised, that we most likely will be just fine. He was right! Chip was one of the best tour guides we have had on any type of tour! He was knowledgeable, inquisitive and hospitably. He was amazing at telling the history of Bend and answering questions. His attitude and energy never waned (even though we had half of our tour group and our group was quite quiet...sorry group if I asked questions - but we couldn't leave poor Chip hanging there in silence!). We arrived at Sparks Lake...just in time for a beautiful, pardon me, GORGEOUS sunset over the ridge that I was told by Chip that if it wasn't for the storm over Bend, we wouldn't have seen anything like it. We paddled our way out onto the beautiful calm waters of the lake..and then we realized, my husband and I, that we really didn't know what we were doing. Chip was amazing the whole time. He continued to paddle back to us, gave us pointers the whole time and never made us feel bad at all about our lack of canoe ability. It was a wonderful communication and team-building exercise (although, I know my husband most likely would have given up if we weren't out on a lake, ha!). It was a truly amazing experience, even when a small squall whipped out for about 15 minutes or so on our paddle back. Luckily, we had the best hot chocolate and desserts from a local Bend bakery (Chip's favorite) upon our return to shore. Overall, the experience was phenomenal and I have to say it is because of Chip. He is truly a gem of a person and a fabulous tour-guide who truly has a passion for the land, for the people and the history of Bend. My husband and I signed up for Wanderlust's Brew Bus Tour and had an amazing time! The tour guide was super friendly and polite. We went to four different breweries Deschutes Brewery, Bend Brewing Company, Cascade Lakes Brewing Company and Silver Moon Brewing. When we arrived at each brewery they were ready for us. I have to compliment Bend Brewing Company because they had two tables set up just for us with all of our tastings already there with a glass of water. That was really nice. The guide was very knowledgable about the brewing process and he gave us a behind the scenes tour at Bend Brewing Company which was pretty cool. Deschutes had a great tour as well! The tour is well worth the money because we had some pretty great tastings at each brewery and some appetizers! It's also great that if you stay in Bend, the Brew Bus will pick you up and drop you off at your house so you don't have to drive or have to worry about getting a cab. Highly recommended! read more

For a recent vacation at Sunriver, I booked a snowshoeing tour. It was my boyfriend's first time snowshoeing and I wanted him to have a good experience. (My first experience was great but it was an ALL day trek and exhausting!) We were picked up at the main lodge at Sunriver and taken up to Mt. Bachelor. It was an easy, fun drive (took about 30 minutes) and it was easy to get the gear on. Jack was our guide and he was fabulous! He was knowledgeable on all things snowshoeing and he had tons of stories. He told local history and Native American tales as we tromped through the snow. I would definitely do it again and am anxious to try the other tours they offer! read more
