Just got off a 3 day trip with my two sons down the Deschutes River with the folks from Fly and Field. From the first stop to virtually our last, our guides Josh and Justin, had us on fish. They handled the flat boats throughout our journey through some of the prettiest country I have ever seen like the pros they are. Glenn set up perfect camps each night and provided two outstanding dinners along with two hearty and delicous breakfasts. Oregon is supposed to be trout fishing heaven so I wanted to expose my kids (8 & 9) to it and Fly and Field had a great guided package for 4 of us. We went a day early to the shop (the shop is beautiful) to get outfitted and the next morning when we met Braden at the shop we were ready to go. We followed him for about 45 minutes to the Crooked River and he had all the gear set up for us. We changed into our waders, grabbed the poles and headed down to the river. Wish fishing was always this easy! Braden was a great teacher. He explained the river and its contours, the fish and what they eat and how to effectively cast. Even my girls got it pretty quickly with his help. We only took one break for lunch and Braden had some great sandwiches and snacks for us but I really wanted to get back on the river. He saw that and let me know that I could take my time and that we would get a full day on the water no matter how long we took for lunch. I got 3 trout and a couple of white fish, my wife got 2 trout and my girls got 1. I could have stayed out there forever but the temp was dropping and the family went into the car so I reluctantly left before getting yelled at. Definitely a first class operation fun by people who really know their stuff. Hopefully next time I can do a Deschutes drift fishing trip next time! read more

Just got done with an incredible day on the Deschutes river with our guide, Adam! It was my friend's first time fly fishing and Adam made sure she not only had fun but caught a few fish as well! Highly recommend to anyone looking for a great outdoor experience when visiting Bend. Big kudos to Adam for being super friendly and making this the highlight of our trip so far. I pulled up. I put my mask before getting out of my car. I looked up as a customer was exiting without a mask and I looked inside and the, employee wasn't wearing a mask either. Neither have a mask under theri chins or partially deployed or anything. Did both of them just take their masks off the very second I pulled up? Not likely. I left. I see my parents in a couple of days. They are in their 80s. I can't spend my money where personal politics or laziness is more important than the health of my community or my family. read more

Called kind of last minute and booked a half day for my son and I. We met our guide Eddie at a spot near Big Bend campground. Eddie has been a guide with the Company a long time and had a lot of local knowledge. I had been fly fishing once but my son had not. He was super patient and also moved us around on different parts of the river trying different casting techniques. The guide makes or breaks these adventures and Eddie was awesome! read more

My wife and I are both huge noobs when it comes to fly fishing. Prior to this expedition, my wife had never held a rod and I had only been fly fishing twice. We were visiting from out of state so I ended up choosing Fly and Field strictly based on their website and Yelp reviews. We settled on a half day and Glenn took us out. We met with Dave in the shop day-of and he got us squared away with waders etc. We then followed Glenn to the Crooked River where we had a great time. I caught 6 rainbow ranging from 4-8" and my wife caught a rainbow and a whitefish. Beautiful scenery and a great learning experience with Glenn. It wasn't a problem for us, but I have read other reviews in which individuals would get dropped off at the shop and not have a car to follow their guide to the fishing site. I don't recall and communication with Fly and Field regarding bringing a vehicle that will be able to go off road a bit. Again, didn't impact our day at all, as we have an SUV. But I think it would be worth noting for future clients so that they can be prepared. My husband and I recently traveled to Central Oregon to stay at the Brasada Ranch and received a recommendation from them for a fly fishing guide from Fly & Field Outfitters. We ended up booking a half-day excursion with one of their guides. We met our guide, Adam Sather, at a campground area about 20 minutes from the resort and walked down to a beautiful river. Adam was an excellent guide and taught us a ton about fly fishing and the flora, fauna, and other wildlife around the river area. He was picking up rocks and showing us the different "creatures" in the river that acted as food for fish. We went up, down, and across the river and caught tons of fish. Along the way, Adam entertained us with his vast knowledge. Last but not least, I had a physical disability from a recent illness, and Adam gave me the extra assistance and encouragement I needed to have a great day on the river. I highly recommend Fly & Field Outfitters for their excellent and easy service to set up and book an outing, especially Adam Sather, a top-notch guide. read more

Went fishing with Griff yesterday...a float trip on the lower Deschutes. Griff was a great guide and helped us catch the cool/unique red banded trout. I am a beginner fly fisherman and my wife is intermediate to advanced. Griff was able to work with both of us, switching with ease between the two skill levels we had. The all day trip was productive for fishing and the scenery of the high desert was grand. We also stopped by the shop the day before to get some gear and local fishing advice. We had an awesome day on the Crooked River with our guide Adam. I am a total newbie and my better half is far more experienced. I booked with Fly and Field after doing a ton of research and we could not have been more pleased. Adam was simply outstanding. He was patient and encouraging to an intimidated newb like myself. He took great care and time in educating but made sure I was actively learning. He even taught an experienced guy some new tricks. I actually landed a fish my first cast. He hadn't even taught me to reel one in yet. How's that for beginners luck? I chalk it up to Adams great teaching. We especially enjoyed our lunch from Adam's "Vantry". Wyatt and Eli were awesome guides. They took our family (two adults and three kids ages 7, 9, and 11) out for a half day wading experience. The first "real" fly shop I walked into wanting to really get into it after a few years hacking, I was made to feel pretty stupid when asking questions and not knowing the slang. I almost hung up the fly rod they made me feel so stupid. I recently moved to Bend, went into F&F, and had the dumbest (in hindsight) questions immediately answered and tons of knowledge poured on me. Knew nothing about fly shops in the Bend area and found this one because they had the better website of about five places. Was assisted by Freeland especially in getting an Oregon license and with advice about fishing the Metolius river where we were planning to camp. In the past 10 years of fly fishing, which all started from Day One at Fly and Field Outfitters in Bend, I have been to many fly shops and interacted with a number of guides (both on the river and elsewhere). In that time, I've seen an array of approaches to customer service and overall attitudes towards those newer to fly fishing. Fly and Field is my favorite shop/guide service and I feel lucky to have this store in my home town. Yes, they have all the gear. More importantly, to me, they have a great group of guides and expert advisers in the shop that have helped me at every turn. Patience, professionalism, and experienced advice are the main characteristics that come to mind. From day 1 or 30+ years in fly fishing experience, this shop's staff will meet you with a smile and a super-supportive approach. Sometimes I just drop-in to say hello, even if I do not plan to buy any new stuff. The staff make it fun to stop by to exchange fish stories, learn a few tips in the shop, answer my questions about rigging/techniques, or discover guided trip options. No attitude...just learning and support. I also love the community they have built through the monthly educational (free) sessions. I've met some new fishing friends in that way. My first trip with Fly & Field Outfitters was back in 2009 when we did a day float with my then teenage son. We had a great time and caught many beautiful redband rainbows on the Lower Deschutes. Since then, I have had dozens of really fun experiences with the shop's great guides. Each guide has fantastic knowledge of local waters, tactics that work throughout the day, and patience of course. The FFO guides always get me and my guys "on the fish"! We've done drift trips and walk and wade trips alike, and we have always enjoyed the time on the water and hanging out with such positive, fun-loving crew that hold a deep appreciation for the fish, our natural environment, and the art of fly fishing. The food is always great, and the "campfire scene" on overnight trips are magical. This summer I have been working on various techniques (spey casting, stack mending, etc.) and my game has improved with the instruction from Griff, Glenn, and many others. Hats off guys! I can't wait for the next adventure. In the shop, I have received tons of valuable advice on which flies to throw, which rivers are fishing well, and what tactics to use. Dave, Alison, George, and everyone else in the shop are Fishy, and they are enthusiastic about helping me find and net fish. I have fished all around the world, and this is my favorite shop, right here in Bend. Last thing... this outfitter gets the value of community. They hold fun and informative monthly evening seminars, hold fishing clinics, and have tournaments, all of which are designed to bring everyone together. Watched these guys bang a native steelhead against the rocks while trying to make a video. Their camera wasn't prepared, so the guy leaves the fly in the fishes mouth and sets it back in the water to get more actions shots. I witnessed from the road and stopped to yell at them, but they did not seem concerned. If you are going to harass wild fish, you shouldn't do in by your boat and car that have your company name on it. Poor form, I have reported you to fish and game. read more
