A terrific, first class retail store with an exceptional selection of fly fishing gear. A welcoming place for rookies to the professional. The owner and his team are very hands on, as I experienced on my first visit last weekend. We came in to prep for a trip, which was handled through the shop (Deep Canyon - excellent). I was quite surprised at the constant flow of customers and all of the personal 1:1 attention given to everyone. There is a great microbeer bar to hang with fellow anglers, a lovely patio and plenty of parking. I wish this fly shop had a location in California. read more

My wife and I took casting lessons with Tye, the owner, and loved our experience! Tye was amazing! He was incredibly personable, passionate, knowledgeable, and gifted at teaching. It was a super fun experience because Tye made it fun, he was tactful with his constructive criticism (if you even wanna call it that), and we felt like he went above and beyond to teach us some extra things and help us set up our rods better...along with hooking us up with flys for our upcoming fishing trip. We walked outside right by the shop to learn casting in a grassy area and then finished by casting into a nearby pond, as well. For how much we learned, how much fun we had, and the confidence we walked away with...it seemed well worth the affordable cost! But, this place has friendly staff and clients , a good selection of flies, local Guides telling stories and they have a bar that serves local beers. Great place to hang out while the wife is shopping . Whats not to like. read more

Great shop with great staff in a great location in a great place. The shop: large, full selection of flies, rods, reels, accessories -- everything you need to gear up for a day fishing or quickly replace lost/forgotten items. Pricey, but at least there's no sales tax and, well, aren't all fly shops? The staff: I've been there three times and worked with different staff and everyone I've met is both knowledgeable and friendly. The location: in a great location across from REI, next to some great restaurants and a wine tasting place overlooking the river -- stop by, buy some flies, and then have a beer or an Oregon pinot while watching the snow-capped mountain view. The place: Bend, as a friend put it, is God's Country -- a warm, friendly place amidst some amazingly beautiful nature. I've used their affiliated guide service (Deep Canyon Outfitters) and had two great trips thus far. I aim to take some of their casting or tying classes in the future and will report back. read more

Went on a 3 day steelhead trip. We maybe fished 12 hours total. The guide spent most of the morning preparing lunch. Ty sold the trip like a used car salesman "We always hook fish on a 3 day trip. It really gives us time to cover the water. " $3,000.00 and no fish later. Two thumbs down for this guide service. read more

I moved here from Virginia a few years back. I had a great Orvis store that I loved there. When I moved to Bend I knew this was the perfect place to fish. I just needed to find a knowledgable and helpful shop. I found Confluence. To my surprise Tye worked at my store in VA and now owns Confluence. The staff is extremely knowledgeable. For a small shop it is packed with quality items at great prices. It doesn't matter if you buy a single fly or a 1k rod, you are treated and valued as a customer. I have purchased reels, rods, flys, packs, shirts and hats in the years I have been a customer. They have also set us up on various fishing trips. The staff is first class. I went on two different multi-day trips, trout and steelhead, with the same guides this past year. Both guides, Branden and Jeremiah, would insanely helpful through each trip - always willing to take time to teach/instruct each angler on the trip. They were incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and always happy to answer questions. Additionally, they collectively showed a genuine interest in providing whatever experience each angler was hoping to have. Whether providing helpful pointers, entertaining stories, and the ability to understand when/how to avoid crowding or overwhelming their clients--they were true professionals in every possible way. The entire experience, from scheduling, preparing, while on the trip or the days following, was awesome. I couldn't provide a higher recommendation for the guides and overall experience. First time ever in Bend Or. Went on a three day float down the Deschutes with our fly club from San Francisco all arranged through the Confluence fly shop. I have to say this is a great fly shop. Well stocked, great staff and excellent advice. I arrived a day early thinking I would look around Bend and play tourist. After a breakfast and a photo walk I ventured into the fly shop to pick up a license and get the 411 on our trip the next day. I asked if there was anywhere close by I could fish and ended up fishing the Crooked River at the suggestion of the guy behind the counter. He had a map handout gave me good directions, some local knowledge and off I went. Had a great time and caught fish. We met at the Fly shop the next day at 6am got dry bags, met our guides, signed our boating passes, bought some flies, etc. everything handled very well. After the trip I went in again to buy a couple of reels and various fly fishing stuff. No sales tax in Oregon. They spooled them up for me changed my line from and old reel I was replacing and were really helpful. Even made me a cup fo fresh coffee while I waited. Very cool. Can't wait to go back. I was going to check the other fly shops in town but never got around to it. Confluence had everything I needed and is an Orvis endorsed shop to boot. read more
