I have moved out of Oregon since my original dealings with Sun. Recently, my SUV was having issues with the catalytic converters and it caused poor acceleration. My local shop didn't do a very good job with the diagnostics and only suggested replacing the top cat. Which had been replaced when I bought the rig last year due to Lithia selling me a beater. They had the exhaust system replaced and fixed all the issues that were present. Since it was a consignment to a muffler shop, it certainly did come with a price tag. But as a person residing in the Seattle area for the last 8 years, it was still a much better deal than anyone would have given me. They were kind and understood that I would need extra time and attention to haul the vehicle into them. Given how hot she was running, I was concerned it would overheat. They paid attention and noted recommendations that I knew about due to friends looking at the car but never were mentioned by the other shops who had worked on her. Exceptionally professional and goes above and beyond. You get what you pay for and nobody is a miracle worker, so try keeping that in mind when you need auto repairs. read more

Bought a 99 Olds from a third party that had records that Sun had been primarily mechanic. So when the car showed engine oil leak we took it to Sun. That told us needed full engine rebuild. They had it for several months to finish the work. My son drove it 10k more miles then brought it to another mechanic for continuous engine oil burn. New mechanic discovered Sun re-used old gaskets and head bolts also Ford plugs and other oddities. Overall a poor quality rebuild. Do not take high mileage cars here. They can only manage simple problems. read more

My daughters car wouldn't start. Had it towed to sun. They fixed the initial issue but then told me it needed almost $5k worth of work. Said it was "spewing oil all over" when They started it. Had the mechanic who replaced the engine a year ago come look at it. Oil cap had been removed or not tightened. Checked engine. No issues. My daughter drove it to Wyoming no issues. They have no idea what they're doing and take advantage of single women, and no one should trust them with their vehicle. Awful. Ruined my transmission, put me out of a car for weeks during winter while I was pregnant and working two jobs, had to beg them for a loaner while they worked on it and then they told me to bring it back when there was a snow storm because they needed it. I took my truck back like five or six times carefully describing what was wrong and they just blew me off and said it was fine and charged me for something stupid sent me away and the issue would continue as soon as I drove it away. Didn't get fixed til I drove up to pick up a friend in Portland and it completely broke on the way back. Mind you was the middle of the night and I had work the next morning and had to call in because I couldn't even get ahold of them til they opened, didn't reimburse for my hotel I was forced to stay in. After this (when I was nine months pregnant) I started having some issues with my transmission again and towed it up there on my dime as it was supposed to be covered under warranty at the place they paid to rebuild the transmission, they tried to tell me I had a bad computer and they couldn't find a replacement, refused to reimburse for towing like they promised they would or tow back, a few weeks later towed it back on my dime again and took it to Dusty's transmissions in central point and they fixed the issues within a day and at no charge it was a faulty temp sensor. Not a computer. They have no idea what they're doing and take advantage of single women, and no one should trust them with their vehicle. read more

I brought my son's pickup in today because the right headlight was installed incorrectly and the beam was aiming at the ground and the other was perfect. This was the second time that I brought one of my vehicles in for service and Sun Automotive fixed the problem and I went home so happy both times! Just about every time we've brought our car in for repair we've had to bring it back to have it fixed again. Last week we had both valve covers fixed for leaks just to have it start leaking immediately. We need to get it repaired, but are hesitant to take it back in. We recently had them replace an axle seal for a second time that they repaired a while ago (still under warranty). We are also concerned that the rear main seal is leaking (which is under warranty now). We've been complaining about it since right after the original repair, but they keep telling us that there might be other leaks and "it's a big job". We're concerned that if the rear main seal leak isn't repaired before the warranty expires we'll be stuck. We're concerned that if we just call for the repair we'll get the same run around. Frankly we are tired of having to bring the car in for repairs, which means at least two trips (drop off and pick up) with two cars from up the river. Some time it takes more than 2 trips - One to take in for diagnosis and then again for repair. We're at a quandary as to what to do next. read more

After discovering that the fuel supply line had cracked and had gas squirting into the engine, Sun automotive was my first and only choice. They took my car in immediately and quickly diagnosed the problem and began work on obtaining the required parts. The next day the parts arrived and the work was done. I was told the mechanic stayed a little late to finish it. They continued to communicate with me each step, made sure I got home that first day and offered a pick up if I needed it. Don't waste your time...because they will certainly waste yours without apology. I made an appointment a week in advance. Dropped my car off before they were even open on the day of the appointment. At 230pm I hadn't heard a word. When I called they said they were behind and my car was next to be looked at. Still hadn't heard anything and called back at 515 (15 minutes before they closed). Person on the phone sounded annoyed that I was calling back. Said they hadn't looked at it, but would look at it tomorrow. Can't exactly take their word for it when they already wasted a day without even apologizing or keeping me posted. Find an auto repair shop that actually cares about your time and concerns. Within one year of getting work done here, tires, brakes, and the slave cylinder in my clutch. All the work done fell apart and had to be torn out and replaced. The mechanic installed my axle bearings backwards when replacing my tires which caused my brand new tires to wear to trash within 5000 miles. They would not honor the 100,000 mile warranty because I got them replaced in another state. The clutch issue was misdiagnosed and I paid $300 to kick the can down the road and I had to replace my whole clutch in less than a year, the new slave cylinder having been torn apart. Instead of giving them my business again, I would find it more satisfying to light $2000 cash on fire in their parking lot. read more

"Pre-Sale Used Car Inspection" Entire transaction was handled by Mike from the 1st phone call for the appointment to the final review of the inspection report after it was completed ~ in a 1 word summary PERFECT! Mike was very professional, wasn't hurried and took the time to explain the details. He talked to me like a fiend ort neighbor and regardless that the phone rang several different times he made sure I was the focus of his conversation, asking another employee to take the call(s) or allowed them to go to voice mail. In this day and age one has trouble finding an auto repair shop that you can actually trust and will not rip you off just so they can sell you parts you may not need and satisfy their labor fee's - this was not one of those shops. I finally a repair shop who I trust will take care of my care honestly and fairly - like you'd finally found "your doctor" for the same reasons. I was quoted a price over the phone yesterday and when I went to pick it up it was $75 cheaper. When I commented I was told they were able to find the part cheaper and they passed that saving on to me! Thank you!!!!!! I went in to get my first interior detail. I think they did a good job, and they also dressed my tires as well. couldn't tell if they threw in a car wash, since it was raining. I would give them a grade of A-. It isn't a sure thing that i would go back for my other car, i'm still debating, but i am happy with the one i got. it was almost everything i hoped it would be. I would never recommend this company to anybody . They take advantage of old people , they can't be trusted , they lie , I recently had my truck repaired , and spent $3600 to have them repair the engine . After driving the truck for 15 minutes the engine light came back on , so I returned the truck the very next work day, to have them evaluate the situation. They informed me the engine was blown. I then took my truck to two different mechanics, and both company's said the same thing , this should had been the first thing they checked for . They should reimburse you $3600. Had to take car back to Kai Sdealer in Albany, and believe it or not, the Sdealer solved my problems. Don't bother with their "diagnostics". You pay like $90 so that they can tell you what Autozone can tell you for free.
