C & L is looking to scam you. My engine was overheating, so out of desperation I went to them, because they were closest to my job. They charged me $80 for a diagnosis. Turned out it was my radiator fan not working and they quoted me $1,100 to source the part and replace it. I reached out to a family friend mechanic back home in CO and he told me that quote was ridiculous. I found the part for $80 off Amazon, found a local mechanic off Highway 99 who then replaced the radiator fan in 20 minutes and only charged me $100. That was 3 years ago. Haven't had an overheating issue since. read more

Took my car in for a PPI for a buyer. They won't give me a copy of the inspection on MY car without paying them on top of the buyer paying for the inspection. They told the buyer the car needed a coolant flush when it was done 400 miles ago with the entire cooling system. They also said the car needed brakes which were brand new front and back. I had some car trouble with my car and my dealership couldn't get me in for 3 weeks. Yes, Sheppard Motors will happily take your money and sell you their cars but will not help when something goes wrong. So, moving forward, I decided to have my car towed to C.L. Automotive. Ryan, Craig and everyone there were kind to help me in a tight pinch. Not only did they get me in quickly, but they fixed my car for me and were honest about what was really needing repair. They didn't try to rip me off like my dealership. I can't thank them enough for doing such good and affordable work. My car has had plenty of issues in the last couple of years; it's on its way to being classified as a dinosaur and it's got plenty of miles under its belt. I've visited my fair share of mechanics, some very good, some awful, but none quite come to par with the quality of care and help I found at C&L. Ryan and his team made sure that I understood what needed addressed immediately and explained why it was urgent. They pulled damaged parts as they were being replaced and explained how it worked and contributed to the different noises coming from my engine. I've attempted calling the facility twice to remedy this issue. Still, no response. I had ordered an oil change, tire rotation and 32 point inspection. The cap was left off *see photo, and the oil drain plug stripped. I went to this facility based on the positive reviews, but I will not be returning. read more

They have wonderful customer service, they can explain very well what needs to be done, reasonable prices and I don't feel nickel and dimed. Despite not having an appointment, they were able to take care of my car, ordered the battery, got it in within hours and got me back on the road the same day. I don't know what to think of these reviews, are they true, or do I just have bad luck. Probably not all true, and I definitely need better luck. I had a few issues with them, and the one last week was pretty messed up. C&L gave me a quote $200 higher than the dealer. I gave the job to the dealer, had the expensive part order ready, and when returning a few hrs later to pick up my car, ... my car DID NOT need the $430 job that C&L put down as $650+, showed me the issue, kept putting red triangle symbols on this job that needed to be done., that was a scary mis diagnosis!!! I dought it has much more than a very bad mis diagnosis, I hope not!! It was very disturbing to find out I didn't need this expensive job. It was also disturbing that S. Did not follow up on phone call we had. Please customers, get a second opinion and estimate before letting this happen. read more

Further, Ryan took care of the price, offering a new customer discount and another adjustment due to the money I had already spent elsewhere . YES, he adjusted the price due money I spent on ANOTHER mechanic. Very much appreciated the communication throughout the process and through explanation of work done. It has taken me awhile to find an excellent, honest mechanic here in Eugene, but C & L is it. I have an older Outback from the east coast with a lot of salt damage/rust. As just one example of why I fully trust C&L, the power steering rack went out due to rust a few years back. They replaced it; that replacement part failed earlier than expected, and rather than charge me to have it replaced again (and it is an expensive part) they replaced it for free. Even though the part failing was no fault of their own. A year later, steering fluid was leaking due to an unrelated rust issue in one of the lines. They fixed this for free too, even though it had nothing to due with their original repair; since it was related to the power steering system, they fixed it under their warranty, for free. I'm sure they can't do this all the time or they'd go out of business, but they have my confidence and business as a result. read more

Barely competent! Took my rough idle car in for a diagnosis. After $104 they told me the cylinder head needed to be sent out and resurfaced. carbon build up on the exhaust valve on cylinder 3 was supposedly causing a miss-fire. They gave me two options, rebuild engine or swap out for a new motor all together. At minimum it would have cost me at least $1500. I took it to the guy I bought it from. He pushed down on the ignition coil in cylinder 3 and it snapped it all the way. Check engine light went off, car runs great now. They didn't even check basic wire connections. I have an Astro van they couldn't fix either. It had a miss fire on a cylinder. They did multiple rounds of work and didn't fix it. Now it stalls on the freeway. Like I said, barely competent. read more

I wish I could rate this shop with more than 5 stars. C&L Automotive provides the best repair service I've ever encountered. Their professionalism is above par. Their mechanical services for repairs and/or tune-ups are excellent and reasonable! ALL the staff are very intelligent, especially regarding the services provided, and the mechanic's are very knowledgeable in their field of work. I really enjoyed the thoroughness of C&L automotive, as well as their customer service. Not only did they inspect the entire car, but they honestly advised approximately how much life was left in the brakes, or if a part REALLY needed to be replaced, etc. Also, not too long after my service, I received a follow-up call from C&L; they wanted to make sure everything was going well, and inquired if I had any questions for them. Excellent little mom and pop shop. We were given honest quotes and not offered services we did not need. We had gone to a other shop before hand but they no availabilities, so knew exactly what we needed fixed. This store was more thorough in their inspection and even printed out pictures of my vehicle to show me where the damage to the tire was. Also they were reasonable with pricing and were cheaper than other shops in the area. Definitely recommend their services. Very pleasant experience. read more

They rebuilt my engine and I had nothing but troubles! They left all of the old, $5 and $10 broken parts on the engine. They did not clean out the valve covers, the covers were filled full of a half inch thick of burnt oil from the old engine. They gave the vehicle back to me leaking oil all over the place. Never recommend to anyone. read more

Great service and everyone is soooo friendly. However, most of the staff that I could see were not wearing masks. I felt unsafe and couldn't wait to leave. I cannot express how much I like the folks at C & L Automotive! Today, I took my "German" car (we'll leave it at that) in for brakes. I was advised a couple weeks ago by the factory dealership (in Portland) that my front pads were at 5.5mm (caution) and rear pads were at 3mm ("fail"). Stephany advised that their mechanic did a courtesy inspection and found that the front pads were actually at 8mm and the rear pads at 5mm and were wearing symmetrically. Ergo, a brake job ($2800 were calipers to be needed) wasn't even necessary at this time! The dealership that gave the disingenuous report is seriously lacking in integrity. C & L on the other hand is to be commended for their extraordinary integrity and honesty. I cannot recommend them highly enough! I'm dismayed at the blatant dishonesty I experienced with the dealership and will likely never go back there.... read more

I Googled the following: "best auto repair Eugene". C&L Auto was the first place to come up so I took in my 2004 Nissan Quest to get fixed up. Now I should be suing Google for the $1,250 I threw away at C&L. You guys didn't even give my van a compression test and I told you I just bought it. You guys wrote on your checklist my tire pressure was at 20psi but let me drive off and hadn't put air in them I had to get air down the road at gas station. You also didn't fix the original problem with the van and told me it was fine. After telling me it was fine and good to go I found it leaked power steering fluid really bad. When I brought it back the next day you guys told me just keep filling the power steering fluid up with automatic transmission fluid which I did until I found out it was 3 TIMES MORE than the power steering fluid!!! You guys should probably shut down is my recommendation to your question about what you could do to improve your performance. read more

The best mechanics I've had by far. I have a 95 honda with well over 200K miles. They let me know what maintenance I need and what things may be problems in the future. Since going here I don't waith for my car to break down and then fix it, because it doesn't break down. Maintenance is much cheaper and they will also tell you if a repair isn't worth it. read more

Do not go here. They were unable to fix a simple heating problem. They convinced my wife and her over trusting father that other work needed to be done. When she got the car back it over heated instantly and was undriveable. When she returned it to them, they said that all kinds of things had just happened to go wrong at the same time on the day she got it back from them. They refused to take responsibility for damaging the car, which they most definitely did by not properly installing the parts that they convinced my father in law needed to be replaced. When she got it back in worst condition than when she brought it in, the new estimate to fix their own damage was thousands of dollars. They then convinced my wife to buy their lemon loaner car she had been driving, which has since needed work itself. They scammed her out of her car so they could sell it for profit. These people will scam you with a smile on their greedy faces.. They take advantage of people, do not go here. read more
