If you're looking for incredible Japanese cuisine at an unbeatable price, look no further than Fuji Sumo Grill in Martinez. This family-owned, family-run spot serves up hibachi-quality food without the hibachi prices, making it one of the best hidden gems in town. I discovered this little gem near the Martinez VA Clinic a few months ago, and it quickly became one of my go-to spots. One thing that stands out is how hardworking and dedicated the owners and staff are. There's always a familiar face behind the counter, and it truly feels like they're here every single day, ensuring every meal is made with care. Now, let's talk about the food--because that's what makes this place special. The grilled hibachi-style chicken, steak, and shrimp are cooked to perfection, with that signature smoky sear and incredible flavor you'd expect from a high-end Japanese steakhouse. The portions are generous, the flavors are bold, and the quality is outstanding. Their teriyaki dishes are rich and perfectly balanced, and the veggies are always fresh and crisp. Plus, they serve up some of the best fried rice you'll find anywhere--savory, buttery, and packed with umami. Despite the high-end flavors, Fuji Sumo Grill keeps things casual and affordable with a counter-service setup, making it easy to grab a quick meal without sacrificing quality. Whether you're dining in or taking it to go, you get a five-star hibachi experience at a fraction of the cost of a traditional hibachi grill. Beyond the food, it's the heart behind this place that makes it special. This is a family business that puts everything into delivering great food at a price everyone can afford. Their dedication is clear in every dish they serve. If you love Japanese food--or just love delicious, high-quality meals that don't break the bank--this is your spot. Run, don't walk, to Fuji Sumo Grill in Martinez. You won't regret it. read more

We walked in just after 4:30pm and it was already pretty busy. One of the server greeted us, and we were promptly seated in a booth. The interior was clean. Several wall mounted TVs were showing different programs. The same server quickly brought us water and menus. After some deliberation, we decided to order several items from both their regular and happy hour menus - two 3-item bento boxes, teriyaki chicken plate, and several rolls (tempura, spicy tuna, and CA). The rolls and teriyaki chicken plate were first up. For happy hour items, they didn't skimp on anything. The rolls were freshly made and had an excellent rice to filling ratio. The teriyaki chicken was nicely grilled and delicious. The 3-item bento boxes arrived soon after. All the kitchen items were very good. The teriyaki beef was surprisingly tender, and the tempura had a nice variety of vegetables. As for the sashimi, it was fresh and thickly cut. I was very pleased with both the quality and quantity. I tried some of the food from my brother's bento boxes. It was delicious as well. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and we received good service from them. Upon the raving, near 5-Star reviews on Yelp!, I was very excited to try Wasabi. Wasabi is conveniently located near downtown Concord, with easy parking next to a parking lot. Upon entering, the restaurant decor was darker, yet warm, clean and welcoming. We were seated promptly and two glasses of iced water were also delivered very quickly. Service was efficient and friendly. The thing that is the most disappointing is the *quality* of the fish, and not necessarily the *type* of fish served. They were just not very fresh and have a very mild hint of "almost going bad" taste. It was the tuna, all other seemed acceptable. And acceptable meaning very mediocre in quality... you could probably get better/ same at Whole Foods. Between the two of us, we opted for the following: (1.) Chirashi Don $30: very small portion with mediocre type fish. (2.) Nigiri and Sushi combo $28: my first bite was the tuna - and it was very bad. Like I stated above, it had the almost going bad smell/ taste, but not bad yet. Kind of pre-bother-line but I won't get sick from kind of smell. I tried a second piece and thought that if it's still bad, I'll complain. Then, all the other pieces were acceptable. Again, not "quality sushi" that's super fresh .. just acceptable like what you would expect from Safeway ot Whole Foods. And $73 out the door later, I regret it deeply. What a waste of time, money, adventure, and my meal quota. :(

Martinez has a good sushi spot if you ask me!…read more The restaurant is located in a shopping center with a good amount of parking spots. Inside you have a small but well organized place. Each table has screens where you place your order. The sashimi was delicious! The only callout- The wasabi did not have bite or that kick that it usually has so that is my only reservation. The edamame was good but that is hard to miss. The tako yaki could improve as it could use more octopus and less batter . The chicken karaage was really good. Overall a great sushi option for Martinez.
