Loved it!! We got the Chicago dog with pork hot dog and it was fantastic. Loaded with condiments, tomato, pickled chilli, mustard, etc. we also got the beer. Perfect pairing. Service is quick. It's in the Oxbow public market which is so convenient and amazing.
Tasty hot dogs. Quite different and messy but I enjoyed it. Wasn't a huge fan of the cabbage at first but it kinda grew on me. People working there were chill. You'll want lots of napkins heh.
These dogs are creative, fun, and tasty! The fusion combinations work amazing together. My favorites were the banh mi dog and katsu dog. The banh mi dog was refreshing, while the katsu dog offered a crispy and crunchy texture. I also loved the chili used for the sumo fries; it was delicious!
I visited Oxbow Market for the first time on a busy Sunday, and after noticing that Sumo Dog had a few open seats, my partner and I decided to give it a try. I'm so glad we did. My partner ordered the Original Sumo Dog, and I went with the Chili Dog. Both were equally delicious. Every component was thoughtfully executed, from the perfectly cooked hot dog with its satisfying snap to the well-balanced toppings. The Chili Dog was topped with beef chili, cheese sauce, mayo, furikake, crispy onions, and scallions. It was rich without feeling overly heavy. The crispy onions and furikake added a satisfying crunch, while the scallions gave a fresh, slightly sharp bite that balanced the richness of the chili and cheese. The Original Sumo Dog was just as impressive. It came topped with wasabi relish, pickled peppers, teriyaki sauce, spicy mayo, furikake, minced onion, and nori. I was worried the wasabi relish would be too spicy, but it ended up being the perfect balance of sweetness and mild heat. The pickled peppers added a bright, tangy contrast that cut through the richness of the hot dog, tying all of the flavors together. The bun was surprisingly one of my favorite parts. It was warm, soft, and sturdy enough to hold all of the toppings without getting soggy. Hot dog buns are usually an afterthought, but not here. They clearly put just as much care into the bun as they do the hot dog itself. Overall, Sumo Dog is absolutely worth a visit. I'll definitely be stopping by again the next time I'm at Oxbow Market.
Unique tasty hotdogs! This Sumodog is located onside Oxbow marketplace. Indoor and outdoor seating available for everybody, in a street and busy parking lot. I asked for their best seller as I want to order and try what most people get so I had the Sumo dog and Miso katsu. The sumo dog has wasabi relish, pickled peppers, not so spicy mayo, teriyaki sauce, furikake, minced onion and nori. The miso katsu has breaded and fried dog which I thought at first was chicken katsu, miso mustard and overflowing coleslaw, tonkaysu sauce, mayo, furikake, scallions. Both are good but costs like $26 for 2 hotdogs. It's a must try for something new, but for daily its a no for me. These japanese inspired hot dogs are tasty. Quick service and great presentation as well!
Tasty and quick. I was on a wine tasting kind of day and didn't want anything to big to fill me up, thank goodness for sumo dog! It's located in the Oxbow Market and hit the spot. I got the plain dog with a side of tater tots, goodness it was so good! Perfect to enjoy in the car and not make a mess. The gentleman that took my order was super quick, knowledgeable of the menu and knew how to have a conversation. That's so rare these days.
This is a pretty good fusion eatery with a mix of Japanese, Korean, Mexican, and American. You'll have the typical hot dogs, burgers, a burrito, and sandwich mixed with Asian ingredients such as Sriracha, shredded seaweed paper, kewpie mayo, etc. It's not bad at all but not one of my go-tos. I ordered a chopped cheese burrito which tasted odd at first because if the texture but I got used to it. It was decent but I would've just gotten a hot dog instead. My wife enjoyed their sumo dog and my son liked his plain cut up hot dogs pieces with bread. We thoroughly enjoyed their crispy and fresh tater tots dipped in spicy mayo. Sumo Dog is one of the only good eateries inside this venue; there's not much to choose from. It's also one of the cheapest selections by price.
Sumo Dog is a relatively new kid on the block at Oxbow Market, and after learning a bit about its history, we had to give it a go. The concept is a co-creation of Jeffrey Lunak, a disciple of Iron Chef fusion master Masaharu Morimoto, alongside partner Nic Adler, owner of the legendary Sunset Boulevard music venue The Roxy. Sumo Dog has also earned a reputation as one of Coachella's hottest food stands. After perusing the menu, we both landed on the signature Sumo Dog. It comes fully loaded with pickled peppers, wasabi relish (which I totally wish they would bottle), spicy mayo, teriyaki sauce, minced onion, furikake, and kizami nori all piled onto The Godzilla, a juicy all-beef hot dog. There's a lot going on flavor-wise, but it mostly works. Sweet and salty notes play well together, the richness of the wasabi mayo is nicely cut by the acidity of the pickled peppers, and the hot dog itself has a great snap and stays juicy despite all the toppings. Pro tip: walk two stalls over to the Oxbow Wine & Cheese Merchant and grab a glass of bubbly. Surprisingly, sparkling wine makes an excellent chaser for a rich, indulgent dog like this and keeps the Napa vibe alive. Fun, flavorful detour from wine tastings. Definitely worth trying if you're at Oxbow and in the mood for something different. Happy Eating!!
Very GOOD! I don't eat hot dogs but I really enjoys the food at this restaurant. I had the Miso Katsu which is a signature Japanese-style fusion hot dog with a breaded and fried beef hot dog. The coleslaw on top is delicious and had a good crunch. Lemongrass lemonade was pretty good too. Service could use improvement. The gal wasn't helpful or welcoming. She gave us our food with no eye contact, and she just quickly walked away. Hubby asked for water and she seemed annoyed. Counter seating is available at the store front. I would definitely eat here again and try a different dog.
Best hot dog I've ever had. Pricey but spectacular, would gladly pay for a dozen. Miso katsu dog 10/10 god bless America Godzilla dog 10/10 god bless America Breakfast burrito 10/10 god bless America The foods so good I can't even describe it. I usually only buy hotdogs from Costco or food carts, but these were some extraordinarily elevated bites of heaven. Happy to be a glizzy gobbler here. 10/10 would recommend
Came here with my husband, a self-proclaimed hot dog connoisseur, and we both absolutely loved Sumo Dog. It has the perfect fast-casual vibe inside Oxbow Market while still serving hot dogs that feel a step above your usual grab-and-go bite. The Sumo Dog came with a quality beef hot dog and all the classic toppings we love: relish, pickled peppers, and minced onion. The Asian-inspired additions--spicy mayo, teriyaki sauce, furikake, and nori--made it feel extra special and gave it such a fun, flavorful twist. You know something is good when you immediately start thinking about how to recreate it at home. Haha. If you're looking for a quick, filling, and satisfying bite at Oxbow Market, I'd definitely recommend stopping by Sumo Dog!
Stopped by Oxbow Marketplace while exploring downtown Napa and grabbed lunch at Sumo Dog with my family. I loved the lively atmosphere of the marketplace, and we were able to snag a seat right in front of the counter. I ordered the Sumo Chopped Cheese, which comes with an Angus beef patty, onions, peppers, American cheese, shredded lettuce, and tomato on a potato bun. I appreciated the balance here--the lettuce and tomato ratio helped keep the sandwich from feeling too heavy, and the cheese was perfectly ooey-gooey, and especially delicious paired with the onions. Flavor-wise, it was solid and satisfying. That said, for $14, it didn't quite feel worth the price. There wasn't anything about this particular item that really delivered on the "American classics redefined with Japanese ingredients" concept. I know hot dogs are their main focus, but even so, I expected a bit more creativity or a unique twist on a chopped cheese. Overall, I'd give it an 8/10 for taste, but factoring in the price and lack of uniqueness, it lands closer to a 6.5/10. I might try one of their hot dogs next time, but if I'm being honest, I'd take an In-N-Out cheeseburger over this.
Pretty good but I wouldn't pay full price for this. My dad and I came at happy hour and we basically got a $65 meal for more than half off and we got hella stuff. Service was good the only thing knocking the score is its price when it's not happy hour. So far the best restaurant I've been to in Oxbow, Hog Island is the only one I have tried yet.

The food: Chicago Dog, yellow mustard, relish, onions, tomato, pickle, sport peppers and celery salt. The service was great. Very friendly, order from the cashier and wait not too long for your number to be called. My order on a Monday was made within 10 minutes. The ambiance was nice. Plenty of open seating inside of the Oxbow Public Market. I can't wait to be back to try more! :) read more

Located in the Oxbow, stumbled on this place because of the fat sumo guy looking at me. Further checking out the menu, they had rice tots which are small rice balls that look like tator tots. I love tots! I would say its a little different but im asian so I love rice. Miso katsu which is a breaded and fired hot dog. This was a recommendation by the server and it didnt disappoint. It was a nice asian flare to a hot dog with a nice Korean style slaw on top. Priced is ok but its a speciality dog and in Napa so you have to splurge alittle. read more

Was strolling by Oxbow market and decided to explore places inside and came across SumoDog. 5/5 miso katsu beef hot dog - its creamy delicious lettuce on top of fried hot dog. I was hesitating initially but then decided to get it based of host recommendation. It was hard to pick due to its volume. Advice is to have them cut it in half and use fork to scoop some of the lettuce as a salad. 4/5 fries -basic and salted. It's what you would expect. Overall a good place. read more
This spot reminded me of Japadog but with a fun twist -- a fusion of Asian and island-inspired flavors. It's a new stand inside Oxbow Market that instantly caught our attention, so we had to give it a try. They offer a variety of Japanese fusion hot dogs and even sandos on the menu. We ordered the Bacon Banh Mi, Miso Katsu, and Loco Moco hot dogs, plus the Chicken Katsu Sando. Everything was packed with flavor, but the standout favorites were definitely the Katsu hot dog, loco Moco, and chicken Katsu sando. Each item had bold, balanced flavors, and nothing disappointed. Price felt reasonable for the portion, quality, and creativity. If you're visiting the marketplace and want to try something unique, this spot is definitely worth checking out. read more

How can you not love Sumo Dog when their motto is "Happiness is a warm bun"!. Sumo Dog takes the classic American hot dog and gave it a Japanese twist. Their menu caught my eye as I browse all the options in the Oxbrow Market. I tried the Godzilla dog (Footlong All Beef Hot Dog, Beef Chili, Togarashi Cheese Sauce, Wasabi Relish, Pickled Peppers, Spicy Mayo, Teriyaki Sauce, Furikake, Minced Onion, Jalapeno, Nori) and it was a home-run for me. So many flavors all together, and made spicy with the japapeno. The prices are reasonable too. I got to try the other interesting items when I am back in Napa. read more

We got a plain bacon wrapped dog, miso katsu, and sushi rice tots. Food was great. The tots order was big enough for 2 to share. The service was friendly. The dining counter had space for my wheelchair. Oxbow itself echoes all noise, so even when not super busy it seems loud, but overall definitely worth the stop! read more
The presentation of their hotdog is great. We ordered 3 different kinds of hotdogs. We had the Sumo dog, Miso dog and Chicago dog. The toppings works well with the hotdog and it tasted good. The service is quick and the staff are nice. I will try their other stuff and the location is awesome. read more

Ever since I ate a Japa dog in Vancouver, Canada, a couple of decades ago, I have been a huge fan of Japanese style hot dogs. I try to order them whenever I come across a hot dog restaurant that sells Japanese inspired hot dogs. I arrived at Sumo Dog for a Sunday late lunch. The restaurant is located inside the popular Oxbow Public Market in downtown Napa. Parking is easy and accessible in the large parking lot. Since Oxbow is a food hall, you order at the counter and eat your food at the community shared tables. We ordered several hot dogs for our party. I ordered a Miso Katsu hot dog with an Angus beef frank and it was delicious. The breaded fried hot dog was different but had a good flavorful texture to it. All the condiments went very well with the rest of the hot dog especially the Japanese mayo and furikake. Overall I enjoyed my experience at Sumo dog. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The ambiance of Oxbow is usually a good vibe. I definitely want to return and try other hot dogs on the menu. read more

Sumo Dog is a cool quick eats fusion place at the Oxbow! I ordered the Chicago dog and thought it was good and it made me eager to swing by again to try their speciality hot dogs. I love their tater tots and thought it was a great side. read more
Ugh, I always find the good places when it's time to leave. While staying at the Westin in Napa, I took a stroll to this food court. While looking for cheese and wine, I saw a Hot Dog stand...which is my true love. I ordered a banh mi dog and a katzu dog. While I'm not usually a fan of fusion hot dogs, these were perfectly executed. Flavorwise, it's just a yes. Creative-wise, also a yes. If you like/love hot dogs -- but with a twist -- with other flavors and themes incorporated, this is your place. Now I want to go back to Napa, but not necessarily for the wine, haha. read more

Sumo dog banh mi hot dogs and tater tot's in Napa!! Tater tots are super crispy, the dogs have a variety of toppings and flavors! The banh mi has a fresh but creamy flavor profile. They have beef pork and vegan hot dogs so something for everyone! The place is located in a market place so there's plenty of other people and restaurants around if you want to mix and match but definitely stop by here for something more unique! read more

Sumo dog was interesting! It came highly recommended. It's new to the Oxbow and a few friends had had it and said it was worth trying. I stopped in one day before work and ordered the Katsu dog. I thought the idea of it was interesting. Wasn't sure how it was going to be presented, but I thought they did a good job of trying to meld together two different types of cuisines. I thought it was tasty! Not sure if I would call it a hot dog though, lol. It had to be eaten with a knife and fork. If I had tried to just pick it up and eat it, it would've fallen apart all over the place. Nonetheless, the flavors were there. I got the crispy rice tots on the side, and thought they were tasty, however, they were pretty dry. I feel like they should drizzle them with spicy mayo, or even some type of teriyaki sauce or whatever they put on the Katsu dog. Maybe top it with some furikake ; It would be perfect. But on their own, and just served with a tiny side of spicy mayo they're a little bland in my opinion. All in all, I think this place is a nice addition to the oxbow and helps diversify the food options in Napa a bit more. read more
Sumo Dogs is popular in Sports Stadiums and has a loyal fan base in sports arenas. However, it is the innovative idea of an apprentice Jeffrey Lunak, of Chef Morimoto and rightfully belongs in Napa, an internationally acclaimed foodie and wine mecca where Steph Curry's wife Aisha Curry's Winery Domaine Curry (Prisoner Wines) resides as well. Great location in the Oxbow Market in Napa. The foot-long hotdog was a "sharing" snack for us. We were curious. It's salty-savory as you'd expect, but the crazy mess topping the foot-long beef frank - good snap, by the way, albeit a tiny bit more salty than I'd like - ensures your every taste bud gets its due. The primary sauce source is a tōgarashi-seasoned spicy pork chili/mayo/cheese combo. Dry toppings include scallions, orange pickled peppers, and shaved white cabbage. Classic green relish gets spooned on before the wiener's sprinkled with nori slivers, making it look more like sushi. The seaweed gives up loads of umami, which makes it look like a dragon roll less like a hot dog. It's messy. And you'll need a fork and knife to eat this dog. read more
Hot dogs with an Asian twist are the stars of this counter-service spot in Napa's OxBow market. While one dog itself won't be enough if you're hungry, it's a great snack. The combinations and options are fun, and for a light snack, this is great. If you want a full meal, maybe look elsewhere. read more

Order the miso katsu!! It's SO delicious. It was such a tasty flavor filled rendition of a hot dog - they fried the hot dog so it was crispy like katsu and there was so much toppings and sauce! I love oxbow market. They have so many wonderful foods. I tried something different and I'm sad that I did. Had lunch at Sumo Dog. The service was great. The hotdog was OK and the sushi rice tater tots were weird to me so overall, it was not a satisfying meal. Just not my jam. read more

I honestly thought I could eat the Godzilla dog (which is a foot long hot dog with a LOT of toppings), and then get another hot dog, but I had no idea what i was thinking. This was a LOT of food. And such a huge value because for $12 you could easily split this with someone else. The miso katsu dog was also really good! Also tried the sushi rice tots which were solid but still not sure if it's worth the heftier price tag. I love unique takes on simple food and this place is definitely one of them. Also love that this place is in Oxbow market so you could combo it with the other foods around read more
