The service department has really stepped up their game lately. One of my first encounters they had to replace a flat tire on my 2017 STI, and they dinged my new wheel (1,000 miles on the car). They were quick to replace the damaged wheel with a new one. I've brought my car in several times since then for things like loose stitching on the passenger seat, popped up passenger front speaker grille (took 2 times to fix this one), rattling passenger front door, and fading leather dye on the driver seat cushion. They have been great every time. Their newest Lyft service is awesome. I'm satisfied thus far. I've been using Subaru of El Cajon for my service for a while and always work with Katherine. There are never any surprises with her, so when it was time for my regular oil change, fluids, and tires checks- this time she wasn't there and I dealt with a different service representative. For what feels like is the oldest trick in the book, I received a phone call telling me that I needed new tires. This came to be a surprise for me because I knew one tire was approximately a year old (caught a nail) and the other tires were approximately 2 years old. My car sits at the airport all week while I travel for work, so it's not like they get a ton of miles and wear. The car is a 2017 and has 35,000 miles on it for context. The service rep said they did a safety check and 3/4 tires weren't safe. How do you respond to that? To boot, their system allowed me to schedule an extended warranty maintenance visit (covered at no charge), yet at check out, I was learning that it had expired. No empathy... nothing but the facts from the service manager. He even said "I can show you the expired date in my computer." Well my dude, if your computer can recognize it's expired, how come it doesn't tell you that when scheduling? $750 later I was done with my visit. Jiffy Lube is much cheaper for these things. I have been to every dealership from North County to Kearny Mesa and I was just fed up with the whole car buying experience. Then I stumbled upon Subaru of El Cajon. I first greeted by Casey who was very kind and engaging and obviously very passionate about the cars he was selling. So we test drove a used Subaru Forester. I loved the car but unfortunately the numbers weren't working out for my budget. That's when they told me that I should consider leasing but like so many others I had no idea what leasing actually meant and to me it seemed like a scam that was to good to be true. After a very long discussion and another test drive of a brand-new 2017 Subaru Forester I was willing to hear them out on all the benefits of leasing. They even had someone from their finance department come over and talk to me about every specific detail and every question I had about it. I felt like they really cared and wanted me to have the car I wanted at a price I could afford. In the end leasing ABSOLUTELY was the best choice for me and I couldn't be happier with the process I had with Casey and when I completed my walk thru a couple days later with Royal. On a rainy Saturday we walked into the lot and were immediately greeted by the cheeriest salesman, Ernie Martinez. We told him how we were new to Subaru and he quickly educated us. He showed us several cars that we felt were within our budget. We fell in love with the cats but couldn't tell him that! My husband was torn between the Subaru and a Dodge. We let Ernie know that we were going to have to come back after we looked at other options. He was very respectful of our decision and gave us his contact info for when we wanted to return. Four days later we were back. Very long story short, we ended up buying two cars in one night! I can't say enough about Ernie's professionalism and knowledge of the cars. I purchased my Subaru a couple of years ago and the process didn't stand out terrible nor excellent. I went to this dealership simply because it was the closest Subaru dealership that had the limited edition Crosstrek that I wanted. I am in the process of refinancing, though, and have had a nightmare of a time dealing with the team there just to get some paperwork sent to me. First, there are 4 options when you call and get their automated attendant; "for all other calls press 0", but when you do it puts you back into a constant loop to the main menu. So you have to select Service or Sales even if you want something else. (I've even made them aware of this 3 times over the past month and it still hasn't been fixed.) Then, you get to a department that cannot help you so they transfer you to someone's voicemail (and again, poor quality so you barely catch the name of the person as the voicemail greetings are so muffled). Everyone I've left a voicemail for has called back 1-3 business days later, and they've told me it will take a few days possibly up to a week for them to pull my paperwork. I've had this conversation 3 times over the past month and still haven't received any paperwork. It's a simple request. I guess this dealership isn't concerned with customer retention. We have 3 drivers in our family (all Subarus), but I can't foresee doing business with a dealership that doesn't adequately represent Subaru's vision and exude their core values. read more

Ok so before I bought my wrx I came to this dealership and the manager came up to me and was extremely rude because I test drove a wrx and he was questioning me why I even test drove if. I wasn't going to buy it. They didn't have the trim I wanted at the time and they didn't have the color I wanted but he was still speaking down to me which I didn't appreciate. I would have gone back there after they had the color/trim I wanted or got it but he was rude and they lost a sale because this jerk of a manager. Well A few week later I bought my 2018 wrx from a different dealership back in late 2017. So they lost out of a large sale because of this attitudeZ Also Recently my husband and I are trying to purchase another Subaru to add, and we're looking to buy a brz or sti and wanted to talk to a sales person. We went once again and no one approached us or helped us, the lot was empty the only Sales man was with customers and didn't get extra help for us. And besides th we were the only Other customers. We were there for 20 Mins and nothing. We just went again last week for one last try because this location is close ... there were no sales associates ...managers ..nothing! We even sat in the waiting sales people saw us said they would get us help but still got no help after waiting and being there for 30 mins. Again it was empty at this dealership so that was not a good reason and probably empty for a reason. So we left annoyed. I can't believe how many sales this dealership lost out on. First, not sure why this place got 4 stars on YELP. My wife leased a sedan there and got "Wagon" printed on the agreement. When she called and asked if this affects her car value and lease payment, the dealer kept on saying "it's just a typo". Very professional and helpful, don't you think? We no longer want to deal with them because my Subara 2013 got a dent on the bumper and started making weird noises after I had my car serviced there. They offerd to fix it for free, but I don't have enough trust in them to fix anything without screwing up something else. From sales to service, just awful. If I didn't need a car to drive the next day and just car shopped all day, I would not lease my subaru here. Sales man was telling us how he gotta cancel his dinner so he can sell us the car??? Wish I didn't end up there in the end of the day. I love Subara, but this car dealership is just really really bad, plain and simple. So after a long day car shopping in Kearny Mesa, where I thought for sure we would have found the car I was looking for... However, I did not find the right car and did not find the right dealer, which is exactly how I ended up at El Cajon Subaru. As soon as we arrived, we were pleasantly greeted by John Pourmound, who was just awesome. While he did greet us right away (which can be very annoying), he was not aggressive at all and was very attentive to why we came to the dealership. We explained to him that we were on a mission to find the perfect Subaru BRZ Limited, but also the perfect price, which we came in looking for a certain ad posted on their website. Unfortunately, the one we came in for was sold the day before, but John assured us that if we found something comparable to the listed one, that he would go to work for us. I've done my homework on the vehicle and not going to lie, I kind of doubted him at first because they always say that. Well, they had the EXACT car we were looking for and went for a great test drive and then put John to the challenge with his manager. To make a long day of car shopping short, the negotiating was quick as we went all in and so did John and his manager ("King J"). The process was very quick and before you know it, we were signing papers. Throughout the entire process, John represented the dealership well by making sure he answered any and all questions we had, checking in on us throughout the finance process and had the car detailed, full of gas, and ready to go when we were done. To top it off, he walked through the entire car and explained every gadget and thing there is to know about the car. Anyways, it was an awesome experience for purchasing first NEW vehicle (2016 Subaru BRZ Limited - Silver). Still on cloud nine and loving the car! Thanks, John and El Cajon Subaru! I test drove a used Toyota Tacoma here, and from the start it was a terrible experience. The truck had a pretty significant dent on the bed and my dad mentioned it to the sales guy when he asked us if we liked it. His response was "all used cars have dents", except this was a major dent and it was pretty obvious. We asked about getting it fixed before purchase and he ended up bringing out the sales manager who claimed he had a dent guy who would try to fix it, but he was pretty confident it would pull right out. During the price negotiation process, the sales guy was pretty combative and kept claiming that due to the internet they couldn't make good deals anymore. He literally pulled up Autotrader and tried to show me how other trucks were priced and became increasingly condescending. I told them my price and they said no and refused to counter. After a ton of really tense back and forth they produced a price sheet with options, which included a bed liner cost. Tacomas of this model have a factory standard composite bed, no liner needed so it made no sense to charge for it. My dad asked the manager about this cost and he blew up and said he didn't install it and walked out. The overall atmosphere was terrible and he seemed like such a rude man. He kept saying no one travels to El Cajon unless they want to buy cars, which is a bizarre tactic in my opinion. I grew up in east county and found the dismissive attitude towards the area insulting. We walked out immediately after his shouting explosion. I found a newer truck with less mileage and no body damage for less money and more options at Mossy Toyota the same day, which I bought. The experience was night and day, the salesman there was kind and professional and never took personal offense to our attempts to negotiate. Avoid at all costs, the sales culture here is garbage. The manager also assured us initially he could fix the body damage and then went back on this during negotiation and said he would charge for it if we wanted a better price. I have been shopping around for a possible new car for awhile now and have avoided going to any dealerships for the fear of being pressured or put under tons of stress by salesmen. I went on the Subaru El Cajon website to check inventory and the automated chat box asked if I needed help. Though I usually ignore this, I decided to hold a conversation. I gave nothing but my e-mail and was quickly informed that the car I was looking for was still available. I was then set up with Travis George, the Internet Sales Manager. I responded saying I may or may not have time to come in that day to see the car but they set me up with an appointment just in case. I was honestly not going to go until they did this. I met with Travis who was such a pleasure to talk with. He was not pushy, rude, or all about the sale. In our entire experience he gave me options and was open to answering all my questions. He was honest with what he could possibly do for me and I ended up leaving with his card and having test drove the car I wanted. I loved that even though he knew I wasn't in a rush to buy a car he still treated me with great service. I take it to the shop where I work and modest that the tire are at 0/32 or as people would say "bold tires "on the inside edge wear. Thinking that they would help me by good will and put new tires on. I go and see them on my day off early before errands. "Service manager talking with the car in the air " ok yeah these tires are you great shape "I wouldn't replace them if it was my car " lol!! My face guessing he was thinking this guy doesn't know s#it. I'm not trying to wast my time putting low profile tires on for this kid. So a couple days pass thinking this isn't right I have to replace the tires with 0/32 and weather on my next pay check. i go by the dealer and ask for someone who could help asking for the "manager" so I get tyre and ask. A "SALE manager "ends up talking to me saying I can do anything right now I need apparel from someone hire up. Umm So now the next day I get a voice message from the "Sales manager "saying that we "Subaru of El Cajon "can not help you. Tough luck sucker So just a heads up to Costumers and People looking to buying a new car. Watch out because This place is looking to take as much money out of your pockets as they can. Very disappointed. I will NOT return to this dealership for services. I decided to venture away from my traditional scheduled maintenance at Frank Subaru only because I wanted to save on some miles. I made an appointment for an oil change and tire rotation at Subaru El Cajon after I was quoted over the phone that the cost after taxes would be $109. I felt it was a bit pricey, but being that it was only $20 more than Frank Subaru and located less than 5 miles away from me - I felt I would give it a try. Customer service wasn't impressive, but not substantially poor. At check out, I was asked to pay first before given my print out of what I was paying for. I was presented with a bill of the amount of $165. What?! Now I was being told the oil change and tire rotation was $95 and the cost of the synthetic oil was an additional $54, plus the cost of the Oil Filter ($7) and the disposal fee ($2.50), plus tax! WTF! At Frank Subaru, all those same things were included in my service for $90. My advice to all who plan to get service done with their Subaru: DO NOT GO TO SUBARU EL CAJON; do your research and consider either Frank Subaru or maybe even Kearny Mesa Subaru (I haven't tried them, so I can't really vouch). To top off my disappointment on being overcharged significantly, when I entered my car, the sticker for my next oil change estimated in 3k miles. I drive a '14 Forester XT - synthetic oil. Basic Subaru service states oil change every 5k-7.5k miles! Clever way to try to get me in sooner to suck up more of my hard earned RN money?.... read more

I drove 4 hours to get to this dealership and apparently no one knew I was coming and I had my appointment confirmed by two employees who apparently where not even there. I thought it was extremely funny that the other salesmen who approach me did know about me yet he didn't. It's been a couple of months and I have not heard back from this dealership. We were treated horribly. We came in after work, exhausted but excited to be finally getting a bigger vehicle for our family. Little did we know, we would walk away empty handed. Prior to this, we had come into the dealership ready with an appointment ready to test drive one vehicle. We were soon told that that vehicle had been sold days ago and apologized for the miscommunication. Since we were already there, we agreed to see another similar vehicle. After test driving, discussing, and running our credit we ended up really liking this vehicle. We agreed to come back the next day, when there was sunlight and make an appointment to come in and buy. The following day, my husband went in immediately after work to take another look. He called me and told me to go ahead and call in an appointment to sign the paperwork. I made an appointment and headed out to sign. When we arrived, we were greeted by Travis. Travis had run our credit the night before and had met with my husband earlier in the day. He claimed there had been yet another misunderstanding and that he hadn't been notified that we'd be in to sign. He told us that another couple was test driving the vehicle. He asked to speak to the owner and that everything would get worked out. After half an hour of back and forth, I finally followed Travis into the "owner's office" and asked for an update. I reiterated for Travis and the owner, that we had had an appointment to sign paperwork and someone at the dealership had failed to communicate. Minutes later Travis returned and informed us that he'd have to wait and see if the other couple "made a better offer." We walked out disappointed and humiliated. This has bothered me for a long time because I often wonder if this was a case of discrimination. I hope not. We had expressed interest, had invested time, and our credit had been checked. He didn't come off as a pushy salesman like you typically run into at dealerships, rather going the extra mile to met all our needs to find the car we wanted. BUYER BEWARE!!! I would not recommend this dealer to anyone. Ever! I had left a 1 star review previously after bringing home my certified pre-owned Outback from Subaru El Cajon. Though I had to deal with a financing mess from the dealer and having to go through the trouble of refinancing the vehicle with my preferred lender and a very heated conversation with their aggressive and rude finance manager, I was still initially pleased with the vehicle itself. Unfortunately, it wasn't long before I began experiencing minor electrical issues in my new(used) 2015 Outback. My electric start began acting up the same week I purchased the vehicle. It would take me a couple of tries pushing it before the engine would turn over, or not start at all, though all accessories would work fine. This seemed random, and at first I thought maybe it was me since this was my first electric start car. Just 3 weeks after I bought the vehicle home, I had to have it towed to a dealer after it left me stranded for the third time that week for not starting. My vehicle was in the shop for over 6 weeks. As it turned out this dealer sold me a certified pre-owned vehicle that was not properly certified. They were not able to duplicate the electrical issues I was experiencing, though the dealer I towed it to in National City did find rodent damage on a wiring harness under the vehicle, which they quoted $2,000+ to fix. Unfortunately, I turned in my own reliable vehicle as a trade-in when I bought this one, so I had vehicle to fall back on. I had contacted Subaru North America, the corporate office, to reverse the sale of this vehicle due to this finding. The management at Subaru El Cajon was not very cooperative until their field representative got involved. Subaru NA did provide me with a rental car for the duration of the time my vehicle was in the shop. Finally last week they forced the dealer to reverse the sale of my vehicle. I was given a 100% refund for my down payment as well as the first month's payment I had made, and they also are paying off the loan with my lender as they bought back the vehicle. I was also given a loyalty incentive of $1500 from Subaru NA to use towards the purchase of a new vehicle, which I did use this weekend. I thought long and hard about going back to Subaru, but ultimately I decided this situation was more of a reflection on the dealership rather than of the Subaru brand. I am completely distraught by how my situation was dealt with by Subaru El Cajon. After my initial complaint, no one reached out to me to discuss my concerns or try to make it better, and they ignored my repeated messages for a call back. Even after they had been dealing with their corporate office, still no one from the dealer reached out to me to see what they could do to make the situation better for me. This is a sign of poor management to me. When they issued my refund, they still did not have someone in management handle my case or even apologize for the issue, but instead had someone in their used car purchasing department process the buyback and issue my refund. I was so happy with this vehicle when I first brought it home and after feeling this dealer put me and my family at risk selling me a vehicle that did not go through the proper inspection process, I am beyond upset. I went to Subaru due to their reputation, quality, and high safety standards. Subaru of El Cajon does not live up to the reputation of Subaru, and I will be sure to share this information with anyone I can so hopefully they do not go through an experience like the one I had. I feel betrayed by this dealer and I am so thankful nothing worse happened during the 3 short weeks I drove the vehicle. read more

As a person of color my friend was totally ignored when he walked into the dealership. Jack came over and spoke to him. We were interested in the Jaguar they had advertised. We liked the car and bought it. After that everything went downhill. The next day I had questions and nobody was available to take my call. On Sunday Tyler called and told me to bring the car back and gave me a loaner. I picked the car up and more problems still existed. I called on 11/16 and Rick Gonzales said to drop the car off and I would be given a loaner. on 11/17 I was at the dealership and the service department was very accommodatin, but I also needed the sales department. Everyone was in a meeting and would not speak to me. I was told to leave my information and someone would get back to me. That has not happened. I feel I was totally disrespected and ignored. I am following up with the department of motor vehicles and a couple other agencies so I can't really go into more detail. For customer service this dealership gets 0. I have not seen a dealership that functions on such a low level. read more

Thank you Subaru of El Cajon for providing my husband and I with two wonderful 2015 Subarus'. We had already spent half our day going to different dealerships testing out cars and talking with the sales associates. Needless to say, everywhere but Subaru felt like a waste of time. Both Martin Mikha, and Kyle Anderson (Sales Consultant and Fiance Manager) were very patient and knowledgeable in answering our many questions. Both my husband and I test drove our cars and fell on LOVE. We felt important. Not just a dollar sign. If your EVER interested in owning a Safe, Reliable, Drive for years to come car, then do yourself a favor and ask to speak to those men over at Subaru El Cajon. Subaru El Cajon changed my view point COMPLETELY on car dealerships. As a female and first time buyer, it is easy to get taken advantage of and it has always casted a negative stereotype on dealerships for me Personally. (Due to past experiences) BUT the moment I stepped on the Subaru lot on El Cajon it was a different energy. Nick, the sales person was so so so informative about all the cars and made sure to find the perfect fit for me. He was very professional, answered all my questions and made me feel comfortable behind the wheel on the car I picked. The car we found was perfect. Brand new, first person to test drive, all the hoots and whistles! I thought there is no way I'm Going to be able to drive this car home. BUT again Nick and the Manager, Jeff, crunched the numbers and found a way to make it work!!! I am so happy with the way things worked out, it made my experience at a car dealership enjoyable. I feel like buying a car every week (if I could) :) Jeff and Nick, Thank you again for making this deal work.
