I came to try summit pizza during restaurant Week. Food was great and my server was amazing (cedar I believe) but, I was more disappointed in the managers. Very rude to their employees and honestly walked around just on their phones. They even talked bad about their employees which broke my heart, the employees were nicer than the heavy set woman, their was a lady with purple hair who was behind the bar giggling at her phone For all of the time being. We were loyal customers of Waldo Pizza. Tonight we tried Summit Pizza. We were very disappointed. We had the thin crust and the traditional and neither were good. The thin crust used to be crispy and tasty. It was neither. The traditional was not very good either. Pizza Hut would have honestly been better. As far as pizza in Kansas City goes, this is my favorite. It's the shiz bam snappy. The ingredients always taste pretty darn good, it's usually pretty fast (even on a weekend night), service is usually pretty good. The LS location doesn't have quite the ambiance of the Waldo location, but the same good pizza. Only once did I have a less than ideal experience - ordered a Burnt Ends and Pineapple pizza (a surprisingly delicious combo - try it), and there were like 3 burnt ends on an entire medium pizza. Ridiculous...I had always felt taken care of by Waldo before that, so I am subtracting a star for extreme cheapness (or maybe they were just low on burnt ends...which is fine, but don't sell me a burnt ends pizza, at full "additional ingredient" price, and give me 3 burnt ends). OK, so "As good as it gets!" (5 stars) means it is as good as it gets in KC...as I have mentioned in previous pizza posts, I am a pizza snob, owing to my being born and raised in Chicago. However, I think that this place would do just fine even in a pizza-centric city like that...so in KC it's definitely "as good as it gets"! So, I have also included this place on my Lee's Summit bar list. I am not saying this is a place to go get a drink and nothing else...however, I do enjoy going, grabbing a seat at the bar, ordering a drink and waiting for my pizza. It's a good excuse to get a beer after a long day. The bartenders are usually pretty friendly, and the beer always comes fast. Excellent pizza and service at this location, just like the Waldo flagship. We also tried the cookies, courtesy of checking in on the Yelp app-they were delicious, especially the Turtle ones. The only draw-down on the rating is the noise level, probably due to the suburban location and more kids. Went to Waldo's Pizza on NYE for the 1st time! We were seated very quickly and drink orders taken. Waiter was very helpful of what beers they had on tap and even made some recommendations. On to the pizza. I was with a friend who frequented Waldo's often. He suggested we get the St.Louis style which is just thin crust. I have never been a thin crust fan. We ordered a speciality pizza which was basically a meatlovers. I was excited to see they used local ingredients like the Italian sausage. The pizza was loaded with toppings when it came out! It tasted fantastic as well! Again, not a thin crust fan but it was still great pizza. Next time I go back I will get a hand tossed or I see they have a honey wheat crust. Great pizza! We tried Waldo for the first time a few weeks ago, my wife ordered carry out, and built her own pizza which was actually pretty tasty. After that we decided to try dining in. They have plenty of room, and plenty of beers, and drinks. The have a few booths, a small bar, and plenty of tables, I can imagine it can get pretty crowded on busy nights. The servers were very prompt and friendly. It looks like they have an arcade on one side and the group of kids hanging out on that side got a little loud, but nothing to terrible. They have a wide variety of items, pizza, salads, sandwiches, and plenty of deserts. On our dine in experience we tried their white chicken pizza, which was actually a little little bland. Overall it's a pretty solid place, I'll definitely come back to try some of their other pizzas! read more

We always love Waldo Pizza especially because they have great vegan selections! We were just in there for a quick visit last time so my son and I ordered the buffet and then went ahead and order a vegan pizza to go for my daughter who was meeting us before we used her car for my son to take his driver's test in. We were close to the end of the buffet time but the buffet was still fully stocked with pizza and salad and pasta and breadsticks. Their Ranch dressings were really good. Their cookies were really good as well. Average - Good pizza with mediocre service. We went here before a Mavericks game last night. It had been years since I had been here with some friends. We ordered 2 different pizzas. One pizza was on there honey wheat crust and it was delicious! We didn't order, nor were we asked about, the type of cheese we desired on our pizzas. the honey wheat pizza came with mozzarella and everyone at the table really enjoyed it. The other pizza was the St. Louis thin crust and came with provel (not our favorite). Both pizzas came to the table at the same time but the St. Louis pizza was cold...like room temperature. We told them and they remade the pizza, gave us a discount and a 20% discount for our next pizza. We will be back. However, we will be sure to order mozzarella on both pizzas. read more

I absolutely LOVE the Thin crust and have ordered from here many times, however, I ordered a Caesar salad & beef ravioli for delivery tonight. Had a busy day and evening and didn't have time to prepare anything... My ravioli was totally burnt and instead of a Caesar I got a small to go container w/ lettuce, carrots and tomato inside and a dressing spilled in the bag. We're gluten free and Waldo's has the best GF pizza around. Great food. Great for family dinners, parties, or just getting together with friends. Lost a star for slow service. We went at lunchtime and they were busy but most people were getting the buffet. The server was friendly but it took them over 30 minutes from order placing to table. Seems overly long. read more

I think that this place is good for what it is: Quick pizza that's excellent for families and for lunch. The atmosphere was casual and is great for a lunch out with co-workers. My experience was satisfactory enough to come back again but I will not go out of my way for Waldo's. My favorite part was the dessert pizza which was a tough sweet pie dough and baked flour/egg/sugar combo. For the normal pizza, I could tell the cheese was not the highest of quality, not of the gourmet timbre that I am used to. I wonder what the alternative pizza options are in the area because maybe this is the best there is. Next time, I will look into it. read more

The pizza is good, but not better than any other pizza joint. But it's good pizza, so yeah! Unfortunately, not so much for groups. We had a weekly club meeting there and had reserved their room. But they double-booked the room for us and with a kid's birthday party. We were having an "open house" for our group with a membership drive and had about a dozen guests there. I've been a fan of Waldo's for a few years now, and they still remain one of the best places in KC for pizza (to me). They have a massive selection of crusts, toppings, and sauces, and you could make 25 to 50 trips and not order the same thing twice. Their honey-wheat crust is terrific, spicy red sauce is almost perfect, and their cheeses and meats are great. I've never had a bad experience there, and anytime we consider getting pizza outside of the home, I really can't say there's another place in town that makes me question whether I want to go there or not. The only thing that would make it better is having a couple different cooking techniques available for the pizza (such as a wood-fired oven), but ya can't have everything. read more

This is my favorite local pizza place. We always order the St Louis Style thin crust and it's fantastic. My family just ate here tonight and our server Maranda was really friendly and attentive. She kept us updated on the status of our appetizer and pizza, and we never had to wait for refills on drinks. My favorite time to visit is for the all you can eat lunch buffet though! The pizza is good. Just like their shirts say, "Corporate Pizza Sucks". It's true; corporate pizza does suck compared to theirs. I like the Monday-Saturday salad and pizza buffet. I ate there most Saturdays for lunch when I lived in Lee's Summit. I wish they would bring back the Italian dressing they had a few years ago at the salad bar. It was better than the raspberry vinaigrette one they have now. I've gone there a number of times over the years and never had a problem. Today, my order took a very long time to get to me (I was going to joke that while there is Pie 5, this was Pie 50!) Actually, an abnormally long time to get to me. Then the cook forgot to put a topping on my pizza. That was a very disappointing experience. But the reason for the good review is I like to base a restaurant on how they handle things when something goes wrong, not when everything goes right. Anybody can have four or five star service when everything goes right. While there was something off about who was ever cooking pizzas that day, and I hope it's addressed with the kitchen staff, I felt the waitress really handled it well and was actively in communication with me about the unexpected issues. So while I didn't get my pizza in any reasonable amount of time and they forgot a topping, she comped my ticket 20% and when I got my food it was enjoyable. I've been there before and I will go back. I just hope they get the kitchen end of it in shape, because there's only so much a friendly wait staff can do to offset whatever their problem was. I did feel the veggie toppings were a little sparse for the amount paid, though. Still, a good pizza, just for the price you pay per topping, they could get a little more generous with the toppings. One star off for that, other wise I love this place and hope today was just a one time glitch. read more

We eat at Waldo's once a week for the lunch buffet. Wouldn't do so if it wasn't good. Honestly, I don't know how it could be much better food wise. It has a well-rounded salad bar with all the main toppings I like, especially a great ranch dressing. Then they offer both thin and thick pizza, of varying varieties. Every few minutes they bring out a different kind. You can even request something if you have a particular hankering. They often have an alfredo noodle dish also, which we really appreciate. It offsets all the red sauces on the pizza (although they usually have an alfredo pizza too). Then they have a dessert pizza with icing and crumbles on top. It's great, too. We have been going here for years and have never had a bad waitperson. We usually go for a quick lunch, so I wish they would bring the ticket when they bring our drinks so we don't have to wait for the ticket at the end (which sometimes we do have to wait). We've started asking them to bring the ticket early and that solved that issue. HOWEVER, I do have a couple of complaints, one that has almost been a dealbreaker for us. We even stopped going there for awhile because of it. They CRANK the AC. No doubt, the cooks are hot in the back, but for the customers, it's unbearable. I ALWAYS take a sweater or coat, and even then, with the air blowing down on my head, its uncomfortable. I really wish the owners/managers would address this situation. When you're not up moving around, it's frigid!! So beware, and take a coat when eating here. My second issue is where the buffet plates are located. If you pick up a plate or two on your way in, that's fine. The issue comes in when you want to go back, such as to get a slice of a new pizza they just brought out, or to go back for dessert pizza. There are NO PLATES in the pizza area!! This is awful. Just awful. You have to try to maneuver your way around the tables of seated patrons, or past the people standing in line, or past the people serving themselves at the buffet and go clear back to the front of restaurant to get another plate! There's a huge traffic jam, which is even worse if you have kids and are trying to manage your way thru the mess. I don't appreciate people (and kids) all up in my business, wandering around my food, and you probably won't either. PLEASE PUT SOME PLATES ON EACH END OF THE BAR!! PLEASE? read more

One of my favorite pizza places to eat. The thin crust (St Louis style) is the best thin crust pizza around. Their Buffett is wonderful. I love how if you don't see something you want on the buffet, just ask your server and they will ask the kichen to make it. Best ranch ever (luckely they sale it)!!! Today, I had the most incredible experience. There's a blizzard outside. I called in a pickup order, but got stuck twice driving from the grocery store, so decided not to press my luck. Called back and told them I'd either have to change my order to delivery (if they even had delivery available) or cancel my order. I ordered a pizza last night through their online delivery system, and I'm not certain whether I messed up, or their system had a hiccup, but somehow my customized pizza order arrived with only cheese on it. When I called and let them know, they were extremely polite and accommodating. They remade my pizza with my custom toppings and had it to my place in less than an hour. Ordered delivery across the street to Saint Luke's East for the starving mob huddled there following the birth of our grandson! Very good pizza and very accommodating re: including paper plates. side salads and 2-liter soda. Delivery arrived if anything sooner than expected, and was exactly as requested. Solid 4 1/2 star based on this one experience; will raise to 5 in the future if we have a more normal way to experience them and they keep their game up.
