Don't be shy about getting in his face and pinning him down about what will be done when and getting exact dates. Once again I waited about six months before posting anything on Yelp. They misrepresented their professionalism and abilities and then fraudulently charged us when we posted a truthful review on this website. The photos speak for themselves. We met with John and Ty many times at our home and at their flooring store regarding projects at our home. Ty the owner of Storey Construction offered to not send fraudulent charges he invoiced us months after we parted ways if we pulled down our review and signed a non-disclosure agreement. Seriously has to be one of the worst contractors in Austin. They talk down to the employees and bad mouth them on a daily basis. They yelled at us when expensive mistakes were made because "they didn't know what was going on." Since they are talking a 20% cut of your whole project they should know what's going on, but they don't and they blame the client's for being "difficult" when they can't open the new front door their guys installed. (Oh, and their guys installed it while gouging our new hardwood floor...repair was offered but we wanted nothing more to do with these amateurs.) Do yourself a favor and find another contractor; this one forces unhappy clients to sign NDAs and offers financial incentives to clients who will leave good reviews. This is not about money...I posted a 2-star review on June 1st, 2017, 3 weeks later we were fraudulently billed $1,100. When Ty was contacted via email about the bogus charges he would only speak over the phone and said the charges were generated 8 weeks after our final payment because of my Yelp review posted on June 1st. I have learned Yelp has no dedicated department to field intimidation threats from business owners. My husband was told by Ty the charges would "go away" if we pulled down the reviews and signed a non-disclosure agreement. The charges were for $1,100 we paid Ty's businesses close to $50,000 in total. We also have the final statement which shows they removed the $1,100 charge because it was bogus. Here's what happened, we ordered 5 new doors for install, 3 wood, 2 fiberglass. I wanted to order them pre-painted but was told by Ty and John unfinished was the way to go. They swore their guys were master painters and that the price would be cheaper as it would be a flat rate rather than hourly. We paid their flat rate in full before the doors even arrived. Then on the final bill they tried to charge us for 10 or 18 extra hours of work for the painting of the doors. That was never agreed to, there was never any change order sent and we proved the painting charges were included in the previous bill so the new charge was removed. Then we received a bill for the amount that they removed from our final bill in April on June 22nd. We sent Storey Construction a Certified Letter concerning our dispute with the bill. We also filed a complaint with the Austin Better Business Bureau to which they never responded but is on file for the next 3 years. There we have evidence to our claim. Instead of responding to our request to proof these charges were legitimate Ty sent the bill to collections in early July. Our only request in our BBB complaint was for the fraudulent charges to be vacated and for a written apology for our atrocious treatment. The mistakes to our home were ongoing to the point we mutually made a decision to part ways because their sub-contractors were too incompetent to complete the job without further damage. If you like being berated for requesting that the job is done right then this is the contractor for you. When John told his guys to skip the step of installing a door frame before installing the base boards; I waited for John to leave and instructed them not to install the base boards and I texted John a little later that I requested they not install the base boards yet. John drove back to my home to yell at me for being "difficult" before recognizing I was right. John was also the person who happily accepted two new fiberglass doors with the wrong in-swing. I was the one to catch that they both had wrong in-swings. I can't even list all of the mistakes we had to deal with but the worst is being told they'll "fix it." Your told you won't be charged more, but you will...they don't distinguish between the hours they work messing up something and the hours they work messing it up again. You'll end up paying at least 3 times when you have to hirer a real professional like we did to fix what their team did the first 2 trys. I have no doubt some customers had much experiences than we did, but I believe that far too many other Storey Construction customers have been silenced by NDAs that were signed to take care of bogus charges. That is how Ty Storey claimed to us "they take care of bad reviews."

My experience with DGP painters was extremely frustrating and disappointing. They prolonged this…read moreproject significantly because they were not putting in the required time or manpower. They had 19 days to paint 4,000 square feet without interruption but could not get it done. In the end, it took 26 days and they caused me significant unnecessary stress, and left problems that I will have to pay someone else to fix. However, I would rather pay someone else than allow them back into my house. In fact, I believe that they lied by telling me multiple times that they were working towards making various deadlines, then making almost no effort to meet those deadlines and not acknowledging their passing. They consistently blamed whomever they could for their lack of progress, even when they had ample opportunities to complete their work without interruption from others. They did not take accountability at any point. When we have discussed delays, Stephen and Archie frequently cite interruption from the other contractors. Other than a mold remediator, whose work could not be paused due to safety issues, I did not allow the other contractors into the house until 19 days after the start of the project, which was far after both their initial and subsequent estimates for when they would be done. Similarly, I have repeatedly communicated to Archie and Stephen that I did not expect them to complete the work in the areas that have been quarantined by mold remediation before our move-in date. That means that I was expecting them to paint less of the house than we initially had talked about, which should have taken them less time. I also communicated with Stephen about when I have intended to have the other contractors start ahead of time. I have visited the job site nearly every day since before the start of the project, sometimes multiple times a day because it is close to my work. I have seen what areas have progressed and what areas have not. I have communicated with my contractors frequently. At no point has DGP taken responsibility for the delays. DGP has been incredibly frustrating to work with. I have tried to be patient and polite, but they have made that extremely challenging. I hope that sharing my experience can help others avoid DGP painters. I've tried for months to get him to respond and to come fix his work. I've been patient with arranging a time to come fix the problems. But, it's clear at this point that Mike has been paid for a job and he has no intentions of making it right. First the background. We used Mike at our previous home. One of the things we liked most about Mike was he paints very straight lines. Excellent work. That cannot be denied. Still, we did have some issues with paint cracking/peeling/chipping. Mike "redid" the work one time and it started happening again on the trim and doors. The paint just seemed to be crap, to be honest. Enough to make it look good for a for a while, but with kids or a light cleaning it would come off pretty easily. Mike claimed to be exasperated and always had a story how "this never happened before." Although you can read the reviews here and see that clearly isn't true. Nevertheless, we also established a relationship of sorts with him and his family, so I took him at his word and figured it wouldn't happen again. I contacted him again when we moved into a new home and wanted it painted. Mike redid the whole house again. Most of the work is pretty good (e.g. room colors), although there are certain areas where he neglected to paint (e.g. interior of closet). Minor stuff that I expected to get resolved because I thought Mike was a man of his word and he would come back another day to resolve it. I was wrong. The HUGE problem we now have is the paint job he did on our kitchen cabinets. The old paint was oil based. Mike was aware of this as we had a discussion in the kitchen prior to any work being done. Mike obviously did not prep the cabinets properly before painting and now the paint is chipping/peeling off the cabinets with the slightest amount of contact. The paint almost feels like it hasn't dried yet, but this job was done in January. Of course, the excuses started flying. "Not again!" "This never happens to me." Whatever. Let's just fix the issue. I reminded him before this job what happened at the last house and we couldn't have any peeling/flaking issues, and I wanted to use a paint he has used many times before without any problems. He made a recommendation for a specific Behr cabinet paint. Since I decided on a last minute color change to the paint after he had arrived, I went to Home Depot myself and picked up EXACTLY WHAT HE TOLD ME TO BUY. If it wasn't right (which he is now trying to claim) then he should have told me when I got back and I would have done back to Home Depot and got the right paint. Nothing was said. He just went ahead and used the paint. Ultimately, I don't think it's the paint. The guy at HD said it was a premium product and would harden and be very durable. The problem is clearly that Mike didn't prepare the cabinets properly and is trying to blame someone else for his work. Still, Mike tried to get reimbursed by Home Depot for the paint and labor to fix my cabinets. He get comped a bunch of free paint and given preferential pricing on future purchases to make up for the issue, but no money for his "labor." Well, that all money went back into Mike's pocket and my cabinets still look like crap. Ultimately, I've tried for months to get Mike to come fix this paint job. Initially he was just ignoring me. Then he accidentally picked up the phone when my wife called, so he got busted. He apologized for ignoring us and said he would make it right. When I spoke with him to arrange a time to come to our house for an evaluation, he went back to pretending he doesn't get all his texts. Yeah, sure, Mike. No one believes this BS, by the way. Still, he made an appointment to come by our home to fix things and even sent us some photos of the "new" paint he was going to try. After "no showing" for 4 days I asked him when he was going to show up? He's been ignoring our texts ever since. I get no pleasure writing this review, but you took our money and ran. Shame on you Mike. For those of you considering using 78 paint: Don't.

After reading Mike's comments I decided to post just a couple of pictures as a representation of what was not done correctly that he did not finish. Just to make you aware the original scope of work that Mike quoted was $5700. Yes we did add more work but not for free and nothing is free. We paid him $8000 as per HIS quote of the additional work. And I have no problems signing contracts as I do that all day long. He never gave us one. Not sure how that makes me a liar but ok. I have no time to waste with this man in court. My goal was to make people aware and provide my rating which is my right to do. I posted after three weeks because we have been trying to get a hold of you for 3 weeks now and you keep giving us the run around. The materials you mention are worthless to anyone. Don't even use that. Yes you are absolutely right. I felt like taking the materials you left and messing up the nice paint job you did to make my house look bad. Makes perfect sense. I was drawn to Tyler's down-to-earth attitude and lack of sales-like attitude trying to upsell us. He was professional, polite, very educational, and didn't push anything on us we didn't initially request in our service job. We received a fair price quote, a disabled veteran's discount, and help selecting the hardware we wanted to use. Tyler was excellent using the exact white shade we wanted that the rest of our house was painted in for consistency. The team were onsite three total days and did a STUNNING job. The team were professional, quiet, clean, and efficient. They were courteous and worked so quickly and so hard. We are more than impressed with the quality of our cabinet work! I am so glad we went with this company and would highly recommend for any cabinet, interior, or exterior painting or hardware installation you might have. You will NOT be disappointed.

It was a simple job walls, doors and trim - entire house less 2 bathrooms. The house is empty and I need to prepare it for sale as soon as possible. The job done was terrible with paint dripped on wood floors and carpet. Several doors were painted and then 4 were left undone. A whole bedroom was painted leaving unpainted rings around ceiling fans and smoke detectors and the morons painted the trim the wall color instead of the existing white like the rest of the house. Many wall plates were not removed before painting. The entire garage was painted the wrong color instead of the existing and requested white. When a date was made to finish the work, the Saturday before Easter was appointed and I waited for the painter to show. That night I called Nick the owner and his excuse was literally that his guy forgot to go do the work. They insisted on doing it the next day, Easter Sunday. Even after this visit, the job remained unfinished. He asked to come back and finish the job correctly and had the balls to tell me it would cost me more money. "Gotta pay my guys" he said. I won't let this POS in my house again and you shouldn't either.
