Update November 2024: Following my negative review, Jeff contacted me. He sent Juan and Leticia, who stripped the bathtub and refinished it. They seemed careful and tidy. It took them 3+ hours. The finish is nice and shiny. I hope it lasts a long time. Our experience with Advanced Bathtub in 2023 was horrible. Technician D***** maybe had ADD focus issues. In any case, he worked fast and loose and skipped preparation steps. He mixed the epoxy paint wrong, probably too much solvent, such that the curing paint pulled up from inside corners, and retracted and split on horizontal countertop surface. Jeff kept sending him back to re-do, and he kept screwing it up. He worked without a ventilation fan. I'm not sure if he was more mental or more stoned from inhaling solvent. The paint is completely peeling up from the bottom of the tub 18 months later. Evidently the tub surface was not roughened enough prior to paint application. I don't know if the tech even cleaned the surfaces, much less roughened them. He painted right over dirt and dust on the tile. read more

I had my tub refinished with them in February 2022, by May of 2022 it was already peeling with the use of normal household cleaners. They left an information sheet but did not actually advise which cleaners to use or not use. Now, just over a year later it looks worse than it did before these folks refinished it. I never bothered calling them about the guarantee because I figure anyone who can mess it up that badly isn't worth giving a second chance. I don't need someone to make my only bathroom unusable for a day or two so I can be in the same situation. In short, a complete waste of $700 On the plus side, they were the only company who responded to my inquiries at all. read more

When Advanced Refinish came out in 2/23 to change my whirlpool tub into a soaking tub by removing the jets and filling in with Bondo or whatever product they used and then reglazed the tub, I initially left a glowing review. I need to revise that. A year later a small hole appeared in the tub. After a few visits to try to figure out why and not being able to, they refunded 450.00 (half) of the original job and suggested they couldn't do anything else because they couldn't figure it out. After about a week or two of studying the situation, I realized it occurred at the junction of one of the Bondo holes and the original tub. I called back to see if they would send someone out to repair it at some sort of cost to me, as yet to be determined. The initial tradesman came out and repaired it in 30' and charged 100.00. that repair survived 2 baths and then another crack between the repair and the tub. Taking pictures this morning, I see it was actually two cracks, one long and one short. I wondered if maybe the weight of the water caused it to flex and break (similar to the reason you don't caulk a tub unless it is filled with water). Could be part of it, but I also noticed a crack starting in a non-waterbearing part of the tub near the faucet where the on/off switch once was. NO reason for that to fail. I'm going to try to repair it myself this time. Probably won't work, but I want to try. This is likely a good company for many other purposes, but I can't recommend them - or probably the process of converting a whirlpool tub. It just wasn't done well. I'm sorry I ever did this because it was expensive and the 5 year warranty in this situation means nothing. I wish I had put the money towards removing this tub, something they don't do. Also, look closely at the pictures and you can see a lot of pock mark/bubbles and such. a little rough on the skin when bathing! I think a lot of dirt came through the open windows when they were putting on the coating. Probably need a cleaner way to do it. read more

The refinishing was pretty good but the follow-through was lacking and cost my short-term rental and entire weekend of revenue. Beware that after they complete your repair they leave your shower head and curtain rod disassembled and laying on the floor. If you are expecting them to come back to complete the last 2% of the work they refuse. I would not have hired them if I would have realized I had to hire a another contractor to go back and screw on the shower head and curtain rod. read more

One of them services only the Lake Travis/West Austin area, and the other advised buying a new vanity. So I hired ABR to do the job, and I'm very happy I did. HIDDEN FEES! I am a repeat customer of Advanced Bathtub Refinishing and I was severely disappointed in my service this time around. I used this company four years ago to refinish a cast iron tub in our 1975 home. The owner of the time offered a competitive rate and did an outstanding job on the tub. ($400 + $75 an hour for stripping off the tub paint) We recently renovated this same bathroom and had several scratches on the tub paint due to construction. I contacted several other companies and this one for a quote. After speaking to the new owner on the phone, we were offered a "return client" pricing and was given a quote of $200 for spot repair or $400 if the tub needed to be completely repainted. This price was spot on the with the other quotes we received from competitors and with our previous experience was so positive, we decided to hire them again. The worker arrived and immediately said that the whole tub needed to be repainted and not just touched up. I gave him the okay and was even contracted by the new owner, Jeff, saying that he would "update my invoice". I assumed that this would be for the $400 price that he offered me, not the $200 price. The paint job was performed well and it looks wonderful. I was then sent an invoice for $650!!! I was shocked! I immediately email back, assuming this was a mistake and was sent another invoice for $600. I then called the owner, Jeff and discussed all the points I laid out here. My conversion with Jeff left me feeling like this was not the same guy who was appreciative of my repeat business and was argumentative over the price. He never informed me of the additional $250 charge for stripping the tub. (Which the previous owner only charged $75, I might add again.) In the end, he sent me a third invoice for $500. Still NOT the $400 he has first offered me. GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING FROM THIS COMPANY is the advice I will give. Needless to say, I WILL be not using this company again or referring my clients to him in the future. Loss of business for these less than moral business owners. read more

We texted him pics of the work immediately after completion and several days later after we used the tub. I am so happy with our refinished tiles! We had a tile wall refinished from blue to white and had our white penny tile floor (which was stained and with extremely dirty grout) refinished to black. I had a 1950's bathroom with baby blue and pink tile. The body of the walls were the blue, the trim pink and I just couldn't live with it any longer. I did some research and decided that a total redo wasn't necessary, just a trim color change: pink to black. So how do you go about changing the color of your tile? You call Peter. He came to take a look and told me they could do it. So I had them do it. It looks great. I am very impressed. Very few people will walk into this bathroom and not think the tile is 100% original. Peter even bought super thin tape (1/8") to cover the grout lines so that when all was said and done it retained the original grout color between the newly painted tiles. This was painstaking work and not cheap but definitely a better value than demolishing the walls and retiling from scratch. It has changed my bathroom dramatically and they were in and out in 2 days. There were some minor scheduling problems but I was always kept informed and when I had questions Peter always answered the phone or got right back to me. I had a second bathroom done as well and the results were the same. Huge improvement, vintage look retained and work done well. I would use them again. read more

Turns out he is the owner, not to often does the owner personally answer every phone call, It shows me that a person prides themselves in the work they do when they personally take every case. Peter was straight forward shooter, who was caring for my concerns about the process and time it took to refinish my bathtub. They finished the bathtub in 4 hours and was ready to use in 8 hours!!! When we talked on the phone he asked if I had a regular tub or a claw foot tub. I don't know too many companies that specialize in antique tub refinishing.
