Had an enjoyable lunch with a family member here Memorial Day weekend. We both ordered a sandwich, cup of soup and beverages. Prices are not bad for the vacation peninsula. Similar to Milwaukee or Madison soup and sandwich prices- maybe $3-$5 more per meal than what you might pay in other WI counties. The soup buffet has a nice variety and the flavors are wonderful. Server was a great host, clearly trained to treat guests well. Love the hodgepodge outdoor decor and wildlife the flit back and forth in the back yard. The fiesta ware dishes and tea cups lining the fence posts are a great touch. Favorite spot to sit is the floor to ceiling window patio room. Would certainly return. read more

Stopped at Summer Kitchen for lunch after a morning of cycling at Peninsula State Park. Haven't been in a few years. but the soups were tasty as always, the bread was fresh. and the sandwiches were excellent. I ordered the grilled turkey with cheese sandwich special that came with a cherry pie mix served over bread pudding with whipped cream. Yum! Others had an enchilada with white sauce, and a club sandwich. The owner and host Nino was attentive and charming as always. Sat in the patio room with a view of the garden and the roosters outside. Drinks were served promptly and we could pick out our soups immediately while we waited for sandwiches to arrive. Great place for comfort food in a cheerful setting! read more

We hadn't been to Summer Kitchen in a few years but I remembered how good their enchiladas were and my husband wanted soup so we stopped in at 1:30pm on a weekday. Lunch crowd was finally clearing out so our timing was good. However, those enchiladas my mouth was watering for? No longer on the menu! Apparently they were so popular that they opened up a separate restaurant dedicated to Mexican cuisine. I chose a grilled veggie sandwich and it was ok, not great. Each meal comes with a cup of soup (you can purchase additional soup if inclined). Five varieties, usually the only vegetarian option is the tomato dill soup, which is good. Wish they would offer a crusty whole grain bread instead of the white bread. Nice place to stop but I missed the enchiladas and wasn't overly enamored by the vegetarian options. read more

Skip the line and craziness at the Old Post Office. Three minutes up the road by car is The Summer Kitchen. Easy parking in their large lot. My wife and I ate breakfast here the last two days. Fast, friendly service. She had eggs and blueberry pancakes and great both times. She is a pancake aficionado and these are the real deal. I had a skillet each time and they were perfect. Nice patio out front for outdoor dining or comfortable interior seating as well. This one is a winner. read more

Great food, we ordered to go and the whole family was pleasantly surprised(especially our picky eater). The angus burger was absolutely perfect just the way I like it. my husband and older daughter had the Ephriam Philly and they were just as pleased as I was ,plus our picky eater had the chicken dumpling soup and she ate all of it and wanted more ,so I was a very happy mom!! We enjoyed a wonderful breakfast in the peace and quiet of a early Friday morning. Our service was excellent and the coffee hot. What a hidden gem of a place! We went for lunch to start with, including two kids (ages 9 and 13), and absolutely loved it! Food was amazing, staff incredible, and plenty of options to delight. We loved it so much that we had to return for breakfast AND dinner before we left. The soups, which they are known for, are TO DIE FOR. We recommend the cinnamon rolls (made fresh in house), the perch for dinner, and did I mention the soups?? The kids LOVED the chicken and dumpling, and everything other one we tasted was incredible. After finding several breakfast places closed (reduced hrs/lack of help), stopped here. It was busy and continued to have people coming in. The staff was super efficient, helping each other, to keep up with the crowd. The food was great and plentiful. As I sit here, it has been 38 minutes since we walked in the door at 9:40 on a Monday morning. We each ordered a couple strips of bacon, eggs and toast. Yet, this seems to be the most complicated, longest order in the history of breakfast. She was really pressuring for us to order a lot of food. We stopped here to feed my 18 month old daughter a quick bite. Figured a cup of chicken dumpling soup would suffice. $7.99 for a CUP of soup. Then we decided to get a tuna salad on pita. $15 and it's only a small half. Next to the soup area is some bread slices. I watched the waitress go over and rearrange them with her bare hands touching all the pieces. This place was extremely overpriced and not worth any of it. After our party of 12 walked out of another local "well known" Door County restaurant due to a complete lapse in service, professionalism and class, we came upon "The Summer Kitchen" oasis by pure chance and good luck! We were seated in our own little "gazebo" area - our server "Victor" was awesome! The menu was family friendly, great homemade soups, and pies for dessert - reasonable prices - everything we ordered tasted great! Victor was even kind enough to agree to take a family picture of us after we finished our meal!! I tried waving her down several times but she never bothered to look over at us. The food here should get four stars. Great place for lunch and we stop here frequently. Our kids like the soup bar and they typically have 2-3 really good options. I usually try to stay away from meat in burger form for lunch, but they have a great turkey burger. Salads are always fresh. Reason why I gave three stars is that last time we ate there, took a look at the receipt breakdown when we got home - they charged $5 per plate when we substituted fries for chips. This was on two of our orders. To me, that's a crazy up charge. I'm hoping for them it was an error. Guess we'll have to watch that closer next season.... read more

Stopped by this place on a whim. We were camping in Door County and I had plans on making breakfast that morning, at our campsite, but the skies were looking ominous and I knew there was no way I was going to get a fire built, have coals ready and food cooked before the storms came so out we headed, looking for a breakfast spot when we happened upon The Summer Kitchen. And I am so glad that we did. First of this place is cute-seriously cute, almost to the point of being cheesy. But some how it isn't cheesy, it's cute in the best possible way (and I am a guy that usually shies away from "cute"). There is so much here to look at and explore. My first thought was that they rely on that cuteness to draw in customers and probably just sit back and coast when it comes to the food, but I was wrong. The cinnamon rolls were warm and soft, with just the right amount of sweetness-so many cinnamon rolls I've had are overly sweet. These were still very sweet but not sickeningly so. All of our breakfast entrees were excellent and the coffee was good also. My only complaint was that my dish had Mexican chorizo in it, but could have used more as I could hardly taste it. I understand wanting to go light as chorizo has a habit of overpowering many dishes, but this could have used a bit more. Other than that, it was a great breakfast and I highly recommend checking the place out if you find yourself camping in Door County on a rainy day, or even on a beautifully sunny day. read more

This is one of my favorite lunch spots in Door County. I admit, it's a little overpriced -- they increased the prices again, so you'll pay upwards of $12 for a cup of soup and a (large) sandwich with fruit on the side. However, I like the atmosphere, the service is usually good, and the food is creative and tasty. I usually get something called the "baby boomer veggie club," which is three slices of wheat bread with cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, creamy herb dressing and sunflower seeds. The herb dressing and sunflower seeds really make this sandwich unique. When you place your order, you are given a cup to go up to the soup bar and choose your soup. There are usually 5-6 soups to choose from; I often get the chicken dumpling, which is very good and has tender chunks of chicken. If you don't want to order a sandwich, salad or entree, you can simply order unlimited trips to the soup bar (there's freshly baked bread up there, as well) and sample all of the soups. You can dine indoors or outside here, but no matter where you sit, you feel as though you're in the middle of a garden. There's also kind of a vintage/cottage feel to the place. That's one of the draws of this restaurant -- it's very pleasant. The bathroom is tiny and could be better, but the restaurant itself is liking going to a tea party in your grandmother's garden. In fact, if you were going to take your grandmother to lunch, this would be the perfect place. Other than being kind of overpriced, and not the greatest place to go on a day when the temperatures are in the 90s (this place doesn't really have air conditioning), the Summer Kitchen is a terrific place for breakfast or lunch. It's conveniently located right on Route 42 across from the Red Barn shops. There's plenty of parking. read more

Came here with a large group of 8 adults and a baby on Sunday morning and were seated right away. They have an outdoor eating area which would have been nice on a milder day. We were seated by the soup bar which had about 5 or 6 different soups. The service was very friendly and prompt. I ordered the country skillet (I think that's what it was called) and liked the idea of having sprouts to top the eggs. The hashed browns were nice and crisp. I liked how the restaurant had a mexican flair to it, offering breakfast burritos and horchatas. Free refills on the horchatas too! read more

When I go on vacation I simply must have lunch at the Summer Kitchen. The patio is filled with blooming plants with cozy tables nestled under vine covered trellises. Ironically the Summer Kitchen is known more for warming autumnal soups than anything else. The trained cook in me tries to object to their overly thick consistency, but for some reason it all works. I particularly like the mushroom and wild rice and be sure not to skip the bread. My favorite lunch offering is the cashew chicken salad. Came here on a fall afternoon, and yes there were people, but the staff was stressing me out! they were running around saying how busy it was, and honestly it just came off as them being rude. I don't know if I'd recommend this to anyone, the service was that bad! The food was just okay (i had mexican, my mom had a salad). The soup was just okay, and like the others said overpriced. It ended up costing me $35 dollars for that meal, and to be honest it was about $25 dollars too much! If I were asked to rate their soups and only their SOUPS I would give it 5 stars! My wife even bought their soup cook book. Don't go expecting a glass of wine or a bottle of beer. Our server, Anna, reported that Ephraim is a 'dry town'. I think that they had 5 different soups available this evening. All three agreed that the soups are excellent. The lasagna had too much spinach for the taste of one in our party: 3 stars. One person had quiche. I tried it and thought it pretty good: 3 or 4 stars. I had the shrimp scampi. The shrimp was good but the Caribbean vegetables were bland and forgettable although colorful. The baked potato was OK: 4 stars. I think that the one person who had desert (dutch apple pie) thought it was good. Really nice use of plants and cute interior with a gazebo room. Sorry to say this to Yelp but the map sucks. Water St. is the same as Hwy. 42 but it's on Water St. north of "downtown". Service was good-very good but Anna appeared to be overworked. She was very cheerful however. read more

The place was almost empty when we got there and I can see why now. You get a teacup of soup with your meal and this apparently is the trademark of the place. I got the tomato dill basil soup as it was the only one that appealed to and it was very heavy on the dill. Dinner was a so-so BBQ chicken for the wife and broiled whitefish for me. My family has been going to the summer kitchen for 8 years. We've never been for breakfast but the dinner is amazing. It is a little on the expensive side but totally worth it. They have an all you can eat soup bar, that is just out of this world. I had the veggie sandwich that they made into a cute face with cheese and tooth picks. A staple of this restaurant is the cherry drink that tastes just like cherry pie! Also all of their pies are to die for. Huge portions, and the staff is always chatty and kind.
