The Pad Kee Mao was good, not the greatest I've had and definitely could find somewhere else for a cheaper price with the same taste. The curry was sub par. The beef in it tasted like chuck stew meat. Maybe if they used a different kind of beef or maybe because I've had it with chicken mostly? So the name for this great Thai restaurant is what originally intrigued us... Summer Buffalo. What?? Had to Google it just to find out what kind of establishment it was. We would drive by it every now and then and when we finally learned it was a Thai restaurant, my husband and I vowed to check it out. Well today was the day! It was lunch time on a week day, about 12:45 p.m. and it was packed. The only places to sit were either at a small table squished between two other couples flanking either side of us (the tables are literally like 4" away from each other -- I detest seating like that) or at a counter. I get it, it's a super tiny restaurant and they are trying to maximize patron capacity, but ick. I didn't want to eat lunch with a bunch of strangers sitting so close that I could feel their breath. Maybe that's just my hang up, but nevertheless, we chose to sit at the little counter facing the window instead. We were greeted quickly and warmly and although very busy, our server was attentive and pleasant. We ordered the steamed dumplings to start - perfectly steamed and just delish. For lunch my husband ordered Pad See 'You' and I ordered the Chicken Satay lunch special (came with small, crisp green salad, fresh steamed veggies, and tasty brown rice). We got our appetizer of dumplings fairly quickly, and good thing, because it satisfied our immediate hunger to enable us to wait without grumbling for our main dishes to arrive. Like I said, it was the lunch hour, so we could tell they were backed up. It seems they do a decent take out business here, too. The food, almost all of it, was just fantastic -- fresh, perfectly seasoned and cooked. Nothing was too heavy, even the Pad See You, which can have a tendency to be a greasy, heavy mess if not handled well-- the chef knew just how to cook it. The variety of sauces that came with my satay (with a cute little bonus crispy wonton, yum!) were light and tasty. My lone, minor complaint about the food was my chicken, it was on the dry side, but it was flavored well and the sauces helped to freshen it up. I had unsweetened passion fruit iced tea to drink, and I will admit I usually find passion fruit tea sour and a bit bitter, but not here. It was light and just slightly fruity and fresh. I would give Summer Buffalo 5 stars had it not been for the wait for our meals, and for the fact that it was also pretty darn warm in there -- they had ceiling fans going, but I'm not sure if any a/c was on. If they could figure out a way to get the food out a bit quicker and focus on making their system work better to keep diners comfortable, it would be the perfect dining spot. We were in Burbank for a show taping. We were in Yelp looking for a good place for lunch. We found a good review of Summer Buffalo and decided to try it. Small place....AMAZING FOOD! We ordered two appetizers, the spring rolls and garlic chicken wings. It's been two weeks and I'm still craving the wings! My husband ordered the orange Chicken that someone else on here didn't like. Well this is Thai food, not Chinese and the taste was great because it wasn't drenched in sauce or too sweet. I got pad Thai and that too was just wonderful. Now we are kinda foodies so I know good good when I taste it! The only reason for only 4 stars is the place is small, the bathrooms small and they have shelves of supplies right in the dining room. Tiny place, seats maybe 17 tops, and the menu is very simple but boy does it pack a flavorful punch. I had the pad kee mau and my gf had the orange chicken. The noodles in the pad kee mau melt in your mouth and the chicken tender, which is not always the case with some places sadly. The flavors were tangy and sweet with a spiciness that kicked in and made the whole thing a ride worth taking again. I sampled some of the orange chicken, and I'm not exaggerating when I say this may have been some of the best I'd ever had; the orange sauce was suttle and not too sweet, gentle even, but the star was the chicken which was clear fresh and not frozen. Solid Thai food in the Burbank / Glendale Area. Our server recommended Khao Soi (Coconut Chicken Curry Noodles) which was great, reminiscent of the Khao Soi at Erawan; and the Grapow Gai - a spicy-sweet minced basil chicken and bokchoy plate over brown rice. We also had the Garlic Pepper wings which were awesome (not entirely sure how Thai this dish was since it tasted just like Korean fried chicken but I'm not complaining.) Service was friendly, and parking was pretty easy on a weeknight but I'm guessing it could get a little dicey on busier nights. All in all, a really nice neighborhood Thai joint! read more

We wanted to try a new restaurant and Yelp led us here. I think she and I said "Mmmm, so good" at least a dozen times. Everything was delicious; we shared the Tom Kah soup (we asked for it mild), Pad See You, and Grapow Gai with Fried Egg. The service was excellent, the small dining room was cozy with a comfortable decor, and there was relaxing Bassa Nova and slow 1940s blues playing quietly in the background. There is no doubt that we'll be going back. Note that the dining area is small, so there may be a wait for seating. We were there before 7pm on a Saturday, and were able to get a table without a problem. read more

Nice new gem in the heart of burbank. You can drive by a 100 times and miss this place cause it's inconspicuous. But the food is stellar...not too strong but not a bland experience. This place is a pretty good Thai place for Burbank. Small but cute ambience. The lunch special is pretty good with main dish, small egg roll and small salad. I had the pad Thai which one could say was about an okay-good pad Thai. I've had better, more flavorful at more authentic locations. But again this is a Thai restaurant right down my street, I can't complain. I've also been here for dinner with friends where we have gotten a bunch of main dishes including Beef Panang Curry and Green Curry of Greens and Tofu. Definitely would recommended trying those. read more

My family & I agree that the food at Summer Buffalo is absolutely delicious! I was even surprised by how much my dad (a food snob of sorts) was raving about this place. My fave menu item is the garlic & pepper wings. They're incredibly flavorful though just a tad to salty for my taste (I don't like salt as much as the average Joe). Still, INCREDIBLY YUMMY!!! My best friend and I come here regularly. The garlic pepper chicken wings are our favorite. Full of delicious flavor, we love them! One of my other favorite items are is the curry chicken. If you get it to go, you get lot of curry sauce I use on rice and other things the next few days. read more

Best Thai I've had in a long time, hands down. Went to this little hole-in-the-wall spot with a friend and ordered the Grapow Gai for dinner. Portions were perfect, fried egg was cooked to the right degree, and the main dish had the perfect levels of spice with a side dish of minced peppers and chili to add more heat and flavor if desired. Rice was light and fluffy and blended well with everything. I'll be back the next time I'm craving Thai. read more

When my friend and I found out the Thai place we were planning on going to for lunch had closed for good...I looked at the Yelp suggested alternatives. What we decided on was Summer Buffalo. I also found out that it was now in the space of a former Thai place that really sub-par. With all the lovely reviews, only 2 that weren't good (pretty good considering those were towards its opening) ...we went for it. And the general summation: this place is great!! To address the 1 star knock off right away - no air con on a hot day, and I literally sweat through the whole meal, specially once the Sriracha was applied. Yikes! We had decided against Poquito Mas, our initial choice, because although closer to our work, it was so hot outside. Then we thought Thai sounded better. But considering it is a wonderful find with deliciousness - no big, the star has nothing to do with the quality of the food - which is obviously more important. I got the common Pad Thai - which was absolutely yummy. No heavy drippy sauce, but a very sublime and perfectly flavored one. Moist and plenty of chicken. Wish they put a couple of shrimp in too though. My friend got the Pad See You - with shrimp instead of chicken. Really delicious! And not overly saucy, but perfectly done. Also ~ We both got Thai iced coffees, they were a tad sweet, but very strong and tasty. The egg rolls are only about a 1/2 inch diameter, but very good. I gotta say - Summer Buffalo is worth revisiting...especially after work, in the cooler evening, and ordering a nice brew to accompany. The decor is really cute and updated with rustic filament lights, benches with pillows, rustic colored woods, and tile. We got there early for lunch, and it started filling in quickly. Prices are a little more than other places, but the quality is worth it. Our waiter, who may be the owner or manager, was very attentive and nice. Their green curry is SO GOOD. I get it all the time because it's light yet so flavorful. The salmon curry is also pretty good, but it's really heavy and rich (in the best way).
