Went to Sultan thanks to a recommendation of a Turkish friend of mine. If he loves this place and considers it truly authentic, you don't need anymore words than that. It is family friendly, has a relaxed atmosphere, and the service is sensational. Most important of all, the food is out of this world. Can't wait to get back here soon. I came here while visiting a friend because she raved about this place and I must say, it did not disappoint. We were starving when we arrived so we decided to order the sigara borek as an appetizer. It was a very good cheese filled pastry. I ordered the iskender kebab platter which was thinly sliced ground beef and lamb. The portion was a good amount, enough for two meals. It tasted delicious and flavorful and went well with the rice, yogurt, and salad it came with. I tried some of my friends lamb shish kebab and it was so tender. For dessert, we ordered the kunefe since my friend said it's a must try and I definitely agree. It was AMAZING! They serve it to you fresh out of the oven and I honestly have no idea how to describe besides the fact it was heavenly. This was probably my favorite dish here. I realize that Greece and Turkey are near one another, but I expected their cuisines to vary more. Either way, I'm a fan. I ordered the vegetarian platter and it did not disappoint. Sure every other dish gives you big chunks of meat cooked kebab style, but this dish lets you try so much more. Hummus, Aegean salad, beans that were amazing, tabouleh, dolmades, etc. It was great to get a taste of so many things, and all fantastic. I am a big time fan of this restaurant. Just moved to Cville from NYC in Nov of 2012, so have been here a year, and so far, Sultan Kebab is my top restaurant in this city. So the food is delicious, clean, healthy. Lots of options. Their chicken is spiced and cooked perfectly, it's magical. Their rice is so light and tasty. Aegean salad is amazing. Baked hummus....hmm...all I can say is that their hummus is the best here, and if you think it couldn't get any better, then they bake it with Turkish cheese on top. Turkish tabouleh aka Kisir is so refreshing with the cucumbers, and I cannot get enough. Their lentil soup is among the best soups I've had...rating at the top with my mom's Mexican recipe. Coupled with their homemade bread, wow. The lahmacun is too addictive...this is like Turkish pizza to me. It's amazing. Apple Tea. Black Tea. Turkish Coffee. Turkish nectars (apricot, sour cherry, etc). Beer, wine, cider. So as you may be able to tell, I've been here a LOT. Cville is a funny place, lots of restaurants, and I will love a place the first time, but then the second time, it's never as good. Inconsistent! But SK as I affectionately call this place, always delivers top quality and taste, and I recommend this place all the time to friends, I take them there, and I take my family. I had heard many good things about this place but I am very disappointed. I called in a takeout order so I can't speak to the dining room service. The decor inside looks really great and my food was all ready. When I paid I realized that the meal was more expensive than I thought it was. I figured that I just didn't remember correctly. When I got home I checked online and the price was different so I called to check if she had mistakenly charged me too much. The price of the meal she told me was $4 more expensive than the online menu stated. Her only response was "Oh yeah the menu hasn't been updated online". There was no "sorry". The rest of the website had been updated with the new location so it seems odd that they would not update the prices. My chicken & lamb combo wasn't very good. The lamb was tough but had an okay flavor. The chicken was just chicken. The rice and hummus were okay as well. The side salad was actually quite nice. The meal was certainly not worth the price. My friend and I split an order of Baba Ghanoush. It was tasty with a bit of a twang from the lemon juice. I wish it had more eggplant and less yogurt but it was decent. They served it with one small piece of pita bread. Come on, bread is cheap, don't be skimpy! The bread was yummy and appeared homemade and came out warm which was really nice. My friend ordered the shrimp casserole and loved it. I got the chicken shish kebab platter. I did not like the hummus, it was flavored, maybe with red peppers? who knows. The salad was ok but the dressing was tasteless. My chicken was very good and juicy, which is always nice to not have overcooked chicken and the rice was good. My friend got the rice pudding and coffee for dessert. She liked the pudding a lot but was disappointed that the cream that she asked for was milk and according to her (I'm not a coffee drinker) it's not the same. She took about one sip and left it. I ordered the baklava for dessert and was sadly disappointed. It looked yummy but it was very dry and tasteless. It came with ice cream but not being a big fan, didn't touch it. Service was just ok. My husband and I were headed to the pedestrian mall to eat lunch but saw this Turkish restaurant and decided to give it a try. Service was a bit slow but the food was good. My husband ordered the Iskender platter and I ordered the Adana platter. Both were very tasty. The salad that came with the platters was very fresh with a nice light dressing. The rice was flavorful as was the hummus. We finished the meal with the rice pudding and an order of baklava accompanied by Turkish coffee. My husband thought the baklava was a bit dry and not as sweet as he usually likes. All in all, an enjoyable Turkish lunch and we will return next time we're in the area. read more

My wrap was very dry. No sauce, just chicken and lettuce. The chicken was tasty but I really was biting into flavorless wrap (not warm pita bread) more than anything else . No sauce for our dry appetizers either. Everything a bit hard to swallow. Waiter brought food in timely fashion but never came to ask us how we were doing. This place may be a bit difficult to find but it is so worth it! It is a super cozy, intimate space with inexpensive but amazing food. On my most recent visit, my boyfriend and I got the hot pomegranate tea and some apricot juice to start. This tea is amazing! I would definitely recommend this or the hot apple tea. For appetizers I got the dolma and he had the hummus casserole which he loved. The dolma were delicious and a perfect portion for an appetizer. I did not try the casserole but the bread that came along with it was super good. I got the vegan platter and he had the lamb kebab platter. My husband and I took advantage of a beautiful (albeit chilly) day and drove down to Charlottesville. He found this restaurant for us to eat lunch and it was definitely a treat, not only because we had just visited Turkey for the first time in September of 2020, but because the food we ordered at Sultan Kebab tasted almost exactly like the food we had in Turkey! I ordered the Lahmacun (Turkish "pizza"), my husband ordered the Adana Kebab Sandwich, and we ordered the Kunefe for dessert. All very delicious!!! You never know if cuisines will live up to the hype, but the food at this restaurant definitely does! I'm a self-proclaimed foodie and have high standards for restaurant eating. Not only was the food good, but the service was prompt, and they did a good job of observing social distancing rules, which we appreciated, since this was our first meal inside of a restaurant in almost exactly a year. We recently moved to Cville, and were excited to try this Turkish restaurant. It was wonderful!! Nice decor, friendly service, and everything we ordered was absolutely delicious! We have traveled in Turkey, and the authentic food brought back great memories. Our group ordered a variety of dishes, and it was fun to trade bites around the table. All of the meats were tasty, the rice looked plain but was fantastic, and all of the sides were yummy. Stopped by on a Wednesday evening. The new space is beautiful, well decorated, and is surrounded by good street parking options. I had the chicken shish kebob. Besides being fun to say out loud, my meal was delicious but I don't think anything too remarkable. It was a very simple platter of moist, juicy chicken, some rice, a salad, hummus, and piece of pita. It wasn't a whole bunch of food but was the right amount for me. I could see why some people might view the dish as a meager portion, especially if you're hungry. I will say that the chicken is cooked very well and that the rice is also delicious. I've been told that the vegetarian options are good as well! Service was okay. A little flimsy at times and we had to waive down our server. The staff were very friendly. I would say my meal was good, but nothing to write home about. I would probably stop by again, but felt it was pricey for what I got. I had a solid 4 experience. I've only been once, but I'll definitely be back. We did a takeout order and decided to try a bunch of stuff. The shrimp casserole was good, not great. It smelled delicious, but just didn't quite live up to it. However, the lahmacun so tasty that I'd wished I ordered a few of them to just eat any time i got hungry all day.
