I saw Sul & Bean on social media, so you know I had to give it a try when I was at Shanghai Plaza. My first impression was that it was a little difficult finding a parking spot and figuring out exactly where the shop was. It's tucked away toward the back part of Shanghai Plaza, so it can be easy to miss if you don't know where you're going. Once we finally found it, we walked in and were greeted right away. The place is small, but it's very clean, cozy, and inviting. I could definitely see this being a nice spot to meet up with someone to catch up, or even somewhere to stop by after dinner for a dessert. I ordered the Taro Bingsoo, and if you're a taro fan, this is definitely worth trying. The taro flavor was very noticeable without being overwhelming, with a nutty and slightly floral sweetness that made it really enjoyable. The shaved ice itself was incredibly fluffy and light, and there was enough taro throughout the entire dessert that you got a good amount in almost every bite. The nuts were also a great addition because they gave it a nice crunch and texture against the soft shaved ice. I would definitely recommend sharing the Bingsoo rather than ordering one for yourself. The portion is generous, and there's plenty to go around, especially if you're already coming in after a meal. For the price, I thought it was very reasonable considering the portion and quality. Overall, I really enjoyed my first visit to Sul & Bean. The location was a little tricky to find, but once you get there, it's a nice little dessert spot with a relaxed atmosphere. This place was honestly not worth the hype. I came in 30 minutes before closing on a weekday and they told me I was only allowed to get my bingsoo as takeout. I ordered a mango snow and it was served a to-go deli container with the lid on. The employees let us sit in store but for some reason didn't let us use their dine-in bowls. The mangos just tastes like thawed frozen mangos, and not fresh mangoes. Since it was packed in a takeout container, it was a mess of shaved ice, mango syrup, and thawed mangos. All the tables were filled shortly after we arrived, and it did get loud. You order at the front and they give you a beeper to let you know when your order is ready. They were fine, but with so many other bingsoo places in the area, I wouldn't say these stood out. What really left a sour taste was the service. We were charged $35 for the two desserts, which isn't exactly cheap. After the transaction was completed, the owner came over and told us that we'd been charged incorrectly because to-go orders cost more and that there was an additional $2. I understand that mistakes happen, and it's not about the $2. It's the principle and, more importantly, how it was handled. Once we had been given the total and charged, I don't think it was appropriate to come back afterward and ask us to pay more because the business had made an error. If there's a different price for to-go orders, that should be communicated and reflected in the total before the customer pays. Unfortunately, the experience left a bad impression. The desserts weren't memorable enough to make me want to overlook the service, especially with so many other bingsoo options in the area. Most likely won't be back. Just a little bit of the cream added so much to the flavor of the bingsoo! My brother also swore by the cheese injeolmi toast so I had to give that a try. Visited Sul & Beans on a busy weekend afternoon on a super hot day and this is by far one of the best shaved ice/bingsoo shops around. Located in a huge plaza by the 60 freeway in Rowland, parking can be a bit stressful here but there's plenty of people going in and out at all times. There's also underground parking for convenience. Best part is the parking is free although parking spaces are a bit tight compared to your usual parking lots. Inside is very well maintained, moderate amount of seating and somewhat spacious as well. This time around, we ordered one of our favorite bingsoo, the Strawberry Cheese Bingsoo! (Took about 5 minutes for the order to be ready which is pretty fast considering how busy it was.) If you want something fresh, savory, and sweet, this is the perfect bingsoo to get. Filled with fresh strawberries, and topped with plentiful of tangy cheesecake, it's the absolute perfection between sweet & chewy. Strawberries were fresh & very ripe, perfect in season and definitely cut to perfect bite size. Portions are big which makes it perfect as a shareable dish. One of the most refreshing bingsoos around. It's also worth to mention that this location compared to the KTOWN one is a bit smaller, less tables but quality is just as good, if not the same as KTOWN location.
