My partner and I stopped by Cafe 86 in Carson hoping we had found our next go-to halo-halo spot…read more Unfortunately, authenticity and customer service were both missing from the recipe. Parking was easy, and when we walked in, there was only one occupied table. Three employees were chatting in the back. We were greeted, but it felt more like, "What would you like?" than "Welcome in." No smile, no conversation, no thank you--just a transaction. After taking our order, the employee returned to chatting with coworkers. When our order was ready, our name was called, the halo-halo was placed on the counter, and that was the end of the interaction. As for the halo-halo itself, my partner rated it a 2/10. It was overwhelmingly sweet and overpriced for what we received. We were hoping for layers of flavor and nostalgia but got a sugar rush that could probably power a small city. As a business owner myself, I understand that customer service is one of the biggest drivers of customer retention. Great products can bring people in once, but great service brings them back. Unfortunately, this visit missed the mark on both. The good news? These issues are fixable. A little more warmth, engagement, and hospitality would go a long way. Until then, we'll continue our search for our next favorite halo-halo spot.

I initially gave this spot a lower rating last year because my drinks felt watered down, but I'm so…read moreglad I gave them another chance. I came by recently with some friends after dance class and we were all impressed. I tried the Biscoff Matcha Latte and it was fantastic. You can tell they use high-quality ceremonial grade matcha. The flavor is spot on. It's rare to find that level of quality in a specialty latte, and I'm definitely coming back just for that drink. I'm looking forward to trying their other matcha options next time! Also need to try their desserts.

Boba Bunny, let's chit chat…read more I've been here twice already, but I'm barely coming around to review the place. The first time I tried this place, it was kinda busy, very stuffy inside, unsure if the AC works or not. Service was quick. Coffee was not anything memorable. I just remember whatever I had ordered tasted exactly the same as the chrome studio signature latte. It was the muscovado latte. Which.... I did not like. This second time was also very stuffy inside. Like, I am really unsure if they pay for AC inside or not. This second time that I had visited was more recent where I had ordered the Hawaiian Paradise tea with golden honey boba. I actually really did enjoy this refresher iced tea. It was not half bad and included a slice of orange inside. The honey boba was very soft and easy to chew. I enjoyed how refreshing it was as it was what I was craving. I also had ordered a banana pudding latte that was horrid. Foam was amazing. The actual coffee was so bad. Like, actually. I threw it away. I did not bother to even ask for a remake. It tasted so burnt. Like the most burnt coffee bean taste ever. I do not know what happened there, but it was a very big disappointment. Ordered 2 churros, they were good. Nothing crazy, just something that helped curve the horrible taste from the burnt coffee. You don't interact with the workers, so service I can not comment on. They have a restroom. Parking is in the plaza in front, which is shared with a few other businesses, the major one being Ralph's. You can order on a large screen and tap to pay on it as well. Sad to say, but I really do not see myself coming back as Torrance has plenty of other coffee shops to go to instead.

Over the weekend I tried Moom Maam's Artisanal Thai Gelato and am now obsessed…read more I hadn't planned on getting dessert at 10am at Smorgasburg, but I did plan on a coffee. When scanning the shops for a caffeination boost, I couldn't stop thinking about the "Over Caffeinated Cold Brew Float" I saw advertised at Moom Maam. So intriguing! I circled back and ordered the indulgent morning treat, slightly skeptical of such a mix. I'm happy to report though that yes, it was a monstrosity to have first thing in the morning but I'd do it again in a second. You get to pick what flavor gelato is in the coffee and I went with chocolate to which they replied, great choice! I agree, it was such a good mix with the cold coffee brew. The gelato was so creamy with amazing flavor, I can't wait to come back and try more off their menu!

Tried Moom Maam at Smorgasburg Los Angeles at ROW DTLA, the big Sunday pop-up food event downtown…read more The event itself was pretty cool, although a few of the vendors I was hoping to try apparently didn't show up that day. Luckily this was one of the stands that had good reviews, so I gave it a shot. Between the language barrier and my excitement for dessert, I somehow ended up ordering more than I planned. The ice cream was good and the Asian-inspired flavors were definitely different from the usual. It didn't completely blow my socks off, but it was a solid treat. I kept thinking a little syrup or extra topping would've taken it up another level. Overall, glad I tried it. Half the fun of these food events is randomly discovering stuff you normally wouldn't eat anyway. I'd probably check out their Torrance brick-and-mortar location sometime and give them another shot.
