I'm currently boycotting that national pink and brown chain with the number of flavors for some extraordinarily rude service in the neighboring town. I had currently supported a local ice cream shop over in El Portal and was satisfied. I didn't want to go that far so I remembered Destenny's which is near where I live. Quaint small shop. Kudos for re-imagining a small space for a local business. Not many flavors but a good quality product in Mitchell's. The lady was very nice in making my split. She went out of her way to accommodate my need to transport my split in a container. My only issue is the split and a Red Bull came to $20 (plus apparently $1.50 for using a card). I didn't trip and immediately paid it. Now the split was awesome. But I got home and was like waiminute...$20?? The split from the other local place was $9 plus tax. The chain woulda been $7 plus. Was the split $15 and the Red Bull $5? Was the split $10 and the Red Bull $10. Ironically, I was contemplating going to Safeway and getting the fixings myself but ultimately decided naw, I don't need to spend that much, plus remember, we're supporting local. I've been wanting to try it after seeing all the photos and reviews so after a grueling basketball tournament on a Saturday afternoon I thought it was a perfect time to stop by on the way home for a cool treat. We were not disappointed! But eat it quickly because it melts pretty fast! I don't know about the location, though. It is tucked away in a small plaza along El Sobrante Dam Road, not all that close to the freeway entrance/exit, so I imagine not many people may know about it unless you are local. It is very easy to miss. Even Waze marked the location a few doors away so I almost thought it was closed.

I had been wanting to try the Dubai chocolate for awhile, but couldn't find it at any local shops and was hesitant to purchase online. The bar was quite large at 8 oz. and topped with a beautiful dusting of gold powder. The chocolate had a nice snap and the pistachio butter and phyllo filling was absolutely delicious - crispy, creamy, and not overly sweet. I initially thought the price was a bit steep at $25, but considering the size, quality, and taste after trying it, I would buy it again. They only had milk chocolate available at the time and were sold out of the dark chocolate, which is my favorite, so I'll be looking out for that dark chocolate bar next time!

This shop features cookies made with Southern recipes that mostly came from the owners grandmother,if I remember correctly. When you get your hands on these cookies, you can truly tell, the butter they must use in these cookies makes these cookies so tasty-the kind of taste that lingers in your mind long after your done eating them. This shop generally has I think 6 cookie flavors every month with 2 additional limited featured flavors rotating monthly-this time of year is unique as they swapped out a few of the regulars for additional holiday recipes-so I knew when I walked in,I was in for a treat. I decided to go with the 6 pack cookie box($23) this time-it's rare I get out here since I live in Sacramento,so decided to splurge instead of just going for a single cookie ($3.95)I went with 2 of each of these 3 flavors Southern Banana Pudding-Almond Roca-Peach Cobbler. I really really enjoyed the Almond Roca and the Banana Pudding cookie quite a bit,I would order both again with zero hesitations, but the true star of the show was that Peach Cobbler. This cookie was truly amazeballs!!!....so buttery, the large peach filling in the middle was so tasty, nothing artificial tasting about it at all-but what really made this thing standout was they wrap a good portion of the bottom with actual pie crust-I never had a cookie that was wrapped in pie crust before and man does that work well-my only regret was that I didn't get 6 of these bad boys-they were delicious!! In closing if you ever find yourself driving in the East Bay Area and feel a cookie craving,I'd recommend stopping at Butter Pecan-you truly won't be disappointed. PS....One last tip-they do have multiple locations, with one in Pinole-Emeryville-Concord-Fairfield and Vallejo I think-so many options for you to try these awesome cookies no matter where you are in the East Bay......One day Sacramento-hopefully?
