Pam and Gayle are amazing. I've always enjoyed going here for pastries (the scones and tea cookies…read moreare my favorites), but the cake is where it's at. For our wedding, we worked with Pam and Gayle to find the best combination of buttercream and cake, and it was so hard to choose, we got two separate cakes! Their gluten free cake is also unlike anything I've tasted before -- we almost skipped the wheat flour cakes because the GF option was so moist and flavorful. And though I don't have a picture of it handy, the art that Pam did on the cake was beautiful and personal to us: she included some of our favorite birds and flours, as well as a design we printed on a lot of our stationery. It truly exceeded all my expectations. This place is the best!

I will say the cake is a little bit on the sweeter side, but it's not overly sweet and I do like the chocolate Napoleon. It's very chocolatey and flavor, but also not overly sweet and have a hazelnut taste to it. It also has a little bit of crunchiness that I like. I think it's like a spot to get chocolate cake and they even have cute cookies for kids which I would think it's a perfect classroom gift.

I asked the server what the cream was made of, and she patiently said it was made of a pistachio cream. I was sold and bought a piece. I liked it a lot, but it did taste a bit like it has been out for a bit. There was a bit of an aftertaste of being in the fridge, but it was creamy and had enough sweetness. (I do like sweets, I just prefer it not to be the overwhelming flavor like cream). It was a cute shop in the corner and would go again if I'm craving a bit of french bakery.

I am so disappointed at the food changes and feeling bad to give a bad review as I love supporting small businesses and love Salvadorean food. There's a lot of room to improve. I've been eating Salvi food since I was child. If you order to go check before you leave. I had an item missing. I called and was able to get a refund. She handled it nice too since she forgot to add it. I took food to go. I added pictures on all. The tamales both chipilin and pork were good. The masa was excellent. The size was small to medium. The pupusas are tiny, they are good but nothing extraordinary. As they are small there's no cheese stretch or a good feel about the filling. The masa is good. The quesadilla pasty was crumbly, it did not feel fresh. It was dry with no flavor compared to ones I've eaten before. The best Salvi quesadillas are moist. The guava, pineapple, and custard empanada pastry were small. The pineapple one did not feel fresh, more on the dry side, crumbly compared to other flavors. The pork empanada was probably the worst. They were tiny with hardly any filling. The empanadas usually have a ground meat or shredded chicken. This one had pieces of pork so it was not flavorful at all. There's table seating indoors and outdoors. The yucca con chicharron was okay too. Usually it comes with a salad like but this one came with 1 beet, 1 slice of tomato and 1 slice of cucumber with a small bag of curtido. No sauce. Tip: The server gave me a business card and recommended to call for orders to go as the waiting time was 30 minutes. I did not mind waiting. I appreciated her sharing this. Tip: recommend the pork tamal. The pupusas if hungry get at least 3.

This shop features cookies made with Southern recipes that mostly came from the owners grandmother,if I remember correctly. When you get your hands on these cookies, you can truly tell, the butter they must use in these cookies makes these cookies so tasty-the kind of taste that lingers in your mind long after your done eating them. This shop generally has I think 6 cookie flavors every month with 2 additional limited featured flavors rotating monthly-this time of year is unique as they swapped out a few of the regulars for additional holiday recipes-so I knew when I walked in,I was in for a treat. I decided to go with the 6 pack cookie box($23) this time-it's rare I get out here since I live in Sacramento,so decided to splurge instead of just going for a single cookie ($3.95)I went with 2 of each of these 3 flavors Southern Banana Pudding-Almond Roca-Peach Cobbler. I really really enjoyed the Almond Roca and the Banana Pudding cookie quite a bit,I would order both again with zero hesitations, but the true star of the show was that Peach Cobbler. This cookie was truly amazeballs!!!....so buttery, the large peach filling in the middle was so tasty, nothing artificial tasting about it at all-but what really made this thing standout was they wrap a good portion of the bottom with actual pie crust-I never had a cookie that was wrapped in pie crust before and man does that work well-my only regret was that I didn't get 6 of these bad boys-they were delicious!! In closing if you ever find yourself driving in the East Bay Area and feel a cookie craving,I'd recommend stopping at Butter Pecan-you truly won't be disappointed. PS....One last tip-they do have multiple locations, with one in Pinole-Emeryville-Concord-Fairfield and Vallejo I think-so many options for you to try these awesome cookies no matter where you are in the East Bay......One day Sacramento-hopefully?

Recently picked up a mini bite-sized, Lava Chocolate Mooncake, which I thought was a nice and new fusion style creation. When I brought it home and cut into it, told myself I am definitely getting this again next time I'm at a Sheng Kee Bakery! Loved the gooey "lava" flow of the chocolate sauce in the filling. They used lotus seed and multiple beans (white kidney beans, red, mung, etc) in the bean paste filling too. Was perfectly not too sweet and the mini size was perfect for me not to overindulge. Sheng Kee is one of my favorite chain brands for Taiwanese/Asian bakeries. Prices are usually reasonable and quality/flavor is consistent. They seem to be a popular regional brand as I've only ever seen them around Northern California.

We also tried one of their chocolate almond croissants which was quite yummy and still warm. The chocolate was oozing out. It was pretty sweet but not too sweet. We both wanted to try their grougeres (French cheese puffs) but found out that they were discontinued. The customer in front of me said that they always have new things and you never know when they will discontinue something. He enjoyed the chocolate cloud cake. I found out today that I could get a light bake or a dark bake for the Miche. This was very good to know as last week I had a dark bake and it was very bitter. Today I intentionally got a light bake.
