I found this bakery through Yelp because I was looking for a custom birthday cake for my granddaughter's 3rd birthday party. I contacted the baker about a Blippi and Meekah-themed 6-inch cake. The quote was $145 for the cake plus $25 for an edible image, for a $170 total before the amount later identified as tax. Free pickup was offered. I was dealing with several important things at the time and did not respond to the initial quote immediately, but I prepared my confirmation on September 12, the date given to decide and contacted the baker on September 13 to confirm the order. She accepted the order and provided payment instructions. I do not use Zelle or Venmo, but I have Cash App and was prepared to either pay cash in full in person or the deposit that way. Before sending the deposit, I asked one simple question: why was the total $186.63, including $16.63 in tax, when the quoted cake and edible image totaled $170? I was simply asking for clarification before paying. I asked because my understanding of California Department of Tax and Fee Administration guidance is that a whole cake sold to go is generally not subject to sales tax. I wanted to understand the basis for the additional charge before making my payment. I was not refusing to pay; I was asking for clarification. Instead of answering the question, the baker abruptly canceled my order. I attempted to call to discuss it directly, but was sent to her voicemail mailbox which was full and I could not leave a message. Afterward, she explained that she had become uneasy about the order and said she was canceling for the best. ‍ She also characterized my statement that I would accurately review my experience on Yelp as a threat of a bad review, which is not something I would do. I would never threaten anyone. I was explaining that I would give an honest account of my actual customer experience which is what Yelp is all about. What disappointed me most was that the order had been accepted and confirmed, yet asking a question about a charge resulted in the order being canceled rather than the charge being explained. I am a disabled grandmother and was trying to arrange a special birthday cake for my granddaughter's party. I would have preferred a simple answer to my question and a completed order. Based on my experience, I would not order from this business again. but instead I will go to back ordering from Nothin Bundt or Susies Cakes and just order the toppers online, that way I know what I am getting with no hidden fees. read more

Where do I even begin ... this was the worst experience!! This was my second order with Sugar Jones, and I hesitated to write this -- but the lack of response and respect needs to be shared. I requested a pastel, whimsical, tea design cake and sent reference photos. What I received was bold, watermelon-like colors that completely clashed with my child's party theme and on top of that, a milestone 5th birthday. I was also only told after ordering and paying that Sunday pickup isn't normally allowed -- forcing me to pick up the cake at 8am the morning of the party. That policy should be disclosed upfront. We had to change plans in order to accomodate this request she unprofessionally sprung onto us. I emailed with photos and respectful feedback and received no response. Not even an acknowledgment. As a business owner, I would have been ashamed of this! The cake tasted fine, but the communication and customer care were terrible. I would not trust this bakery for an important event, ever! Please save yourself the trouble and thank me later ... i would give this review zero stars if I could. read more

I hired them to make me mini cupcakes for my engagemnt party. The cupcakes were all bomb diggity and everyone loved them. Out of all the desserts we had, these ones were the most eaten. They taste good next day too. Mini cupcakes are about 2 bites. Small enough to eat a few. Very tasty. She is very communicative and prices are fair. I found Precious on Yelp and I'm so happy that I did. She outdid herself with my daughter's 4th bday cake and cupcakes. It was absolutely beautiful and everyone wanted to know where I ordered from. I sent Precious a text to inquire about availability and she asked that I email her. I emailed her and the ordering process was pretty quick and simple. Pick up time was set and she had my order ready for me I ordered an 8in My Special Day flavored cake Rapunzel theme, I provided the cake topper. The cake was moist and delicious, nice balance of chocolate and white cake with hazelnut mouse and cream cheese frosting We also ordered 1/2 dz strawberry joy cupcakes and 1/2 orange creamsicle. Those flavors were amazing also. We fought over the last strawberry cupcake. We'll be ordering more in the months to come as bdays roll out. I wanted to send a red velvet cake to a dear friend in California, and I live in Texas. After rooting around online, all roads for "the best cake" kept bringing me back to SugarJones. I called Precious, and she answered my many questions about cake size, what would be right, and how it could be designed. This was within 48 hrs of delivery! She delivered a beautifully designed cake and took an awesome picture of my friend holding the cake and with a huge smile on his face! That was the cherry on top of a fabulous job. This is by far one of the best cakes I've had in a long time. I got the strawberry joy in a 5 inch cake for my husband's birthday. Precious was able to make my cake in such a short turn around. I wanted to get my husband a small cake since it is just me and husband and my son. We did a super dad theme cake with a cloud and Superman colors. I contacted Precious, (Sugar Jones) on a Wednesday, for a cake I needed by Sunday and she did not disappoint- I wanted a Laker themed cake for my son West, 9th Birthday, vanilla confetti flavor. It taste pretty good, whatever the cake was lacking on taste she made up with the presentation. So I can't really complain. This was the most delicious, densely flavored cake I've ever had that was not too sweet. The strawberries actually were real strawberries. And I never was surprised by a chunk of strawberries or their seeds. The print of the photo was so beautiful and exact. I enjoyed the handmaid nature of the cake and its presentation. This was my 2nd time trying these and our hopes were high BUT the raspberry was just awful the filling was strange and it had just raspberry jam inside,I dint eat it. The mango was okay so we shared that. The coffee bean was just awful as well so we didn't finish that either. The orange was the best of the group but overall just a disappointing experience once again because these are not cheap. I'm starting to think I might just have to give up my journey to find these although there are some places in Vegas that look promising. I don't think Reno has any bakeries that make these. They look so beautiful but the taste is a let down.

The plain bread part was great, but the filling was just mush and salty. Out of the 3, I would say the pork one was the better one.

You just can not go wrong if you are having a sweet tooth craving. It will be your every month fix!!! Well for me i limit myself but when i get the urge i know who can satisfy me. Sugar Jones!! the Apple cluster is still my favorite but i just recently finally tried the red velvet cup cakes and they are divine!!!! little angels make them in the kitchen with their perfectly soft sweet hands!! Gave us the best price quote for what we were looking for: something rustic and elegant: a Naked 3-tiered wedding cake. Then we placed a vintage wedding cake topper on and it was perfection! We gave her a week's notice. And we picked our cake the day prior to our wedding ceremony at the Chevy Chase country and they refrigerated onsite. And we were set! All the other price quotes on Zola were hundreds of $$ inflated, and people were demanding. Her cake shop is a cute lil shop front, located in a cozy lil strip mall. Ya gotta pay attention when driving or ya might miss it! Best of all she gave us 12 mini cupcakes as a thank you. How SWEET is that! Maybe we'll have some spooky themed ones, in time for Halloween. They also put down the wrong address again! I even emailed them saying they needed to add penthouse to the order address. On top of all of that they had the audacity to charge the following: $20 delivery fee $10 concierge fee (for what? 0 customer service and a 3% credit card fee. I am surprised they didn't charge me for the box. Where is my order? I do not recommend this bakery.

We drove 2 hours in horrible traffic to their office in Van Nuys ( I should have taken this as a sign). At our first meeting, Ernae, the assistant, was very accomodating and was most helpful. She was taking copious notes and was asking us lots of questions to make sure that she understood what design we wanted for the cupcakes and the cutting cake as well. She even offered us ice cold bottled water (it was very hot that day) and gave us a dozen minis and 2 regular cupcakes of various flavors to take home and taste at no charge. The meeting ended on a good note and Ernae told us that she would probably have the sample available sometime next week. The flavors were: - red velvet with cream cheese frosting - vanilla bean with mocha cream filling and buttercream frosting - carrot cake with cream cheese frosting - banana with buttercream frosting - coconut with milk custard filling and coconut cream cheese frosting - lemon with lemon curd filling and cream cheese frosting - chocolate with dark chocolate frosting I am not going to lie. Their cupcakes were delicious. Our favorites were the vanilla bean with mocha cream, coconut with milk custard, and the lemon with lemon curd. That was the last email/communication I received from her. I knew that they'd be very busy the week after so I waited a week and left her a message on her phone but no response. My fiancee even emailed her and to my surprise, she responded by saying she said would call the next day but never did. I even left a message for the owner, Julie, and she never returned my phone call. As Ross said in his review, they're not very prompt when it comes to responding emails/phone calls. Also, it's nearly impossible to reach them via phone since it always goes to voicemail. Additionally, to make things worse, their voicemail sometimes gets connected to a random gentleman's voicemail. I understand how difficult it is to run a small business on your own since I work for a small business as well, but come on, the least you could do is reply to my emails/phone calls or call back when you said you would. Even after all this, I was willing to give Blue Cupcake another shot since I thought, maybe just maybe, they were just having a very difficult time during those three weeks since they're a small company and maybe just maybe, my experience was just out of the norm. However, my fiancee convinced me otherwise since at this rate, they might not even show up with our cupcakes on our wedding day and I'd probably end up with a heart attack.
