Note: 1 star is for customer service Flavors: 4 stars We were very excited to have Blue Cupcake design our cupcakes for our wedding and initially, things went well. We drove 2 hours in horrible traffic to their office in Van Nuys ( I should have taken this as a sign). As for their office, they actually rent a space from a catering company called Cornucopia so look for the Cornucopia sign when you get there...if you're still willing to try them out after reading this review. At our first meeting, Ernae, the assistant, was very accomodating and was most helpful. She was taking copious notes and was asking us lots of questions to make sure that she understood what design we wanted for the cupcakes and the cutting cake as well. She even offered us ice cold bottled water (it was very hot that day) and gave us a dozen minis and 2 regular cupcakes of various flavors to take home and taste at no charge. The meeting ended on a good note and Ernae told us that she would probably have the sample available sometime next week. The flavors were: - red velvet with cream cheese frosting - vanilla bean with mocha cream filling and buttercream frosting - carrot cake with cream cheese frosting - banana with buttercream frosting - coconut with milk custard filling and coconut cream cheese frosting - lemon with lemon curd filling and cream cheese frosting - chocolate with dark chocolate frosting I am not going to lie. Their cupcakes were delicious. Our favorites were the vanilla bean with mocha cream, coconut with milk custard, and the lemon with lemon curd. The minis and the regular cupcakes were the right size and the frostings/fillings were not too overpowering. All the cupcakes were very moist without being oily and not too sugary. Unfortunately, our excitement ended with the samples. I emailed Ernae that weekend with new ideas for the cutting cake and she responded asking for some clarifications on the designs to which I responded. That was the last email/communication I received from her. I knew that they'd be very busy the week after so I waited a week and left her a message on her phone but no response. My fiancee even emailed her and to my surprise, she responded by saying she said would call the next day but never did. I even left a message for the owner, Julie, and she never returned my phone call. As Ross said in his review, they're not very prompt when it comes to responding emails/phone calls. Also, it's nearly impossible to reach them via phone since it always goes to voicemail. Additionally, to make things worse, their voicemail sometimes gets connected to a random gentleman's voicemail. I understand how difficult it is to run a small business on your own since I work for a small business as well, but come on, the least you could do is reply to my emails/phone calls or call back when you said you would. Even after all this, I was willing to give Blue Cupcake another shot since I thought, maybe just maybe, they were just having a very difficult time during those three weeks since they're a small company and maybe just maybe, my experience was just out of the norm. However, my fiancee convinced me otherwise since at this rate, they might not even show up with our cupcakes on our wedding day and I'd probably end up with a heart attack. read more

Do NOT waste your time even trying to contact this company for an event! I started emailing and calling Blue Cupcake almost two months prior to a baby shower I was throwing. I initially got a prompt email response with a price quote of the products that were offered. It then took me several emails to find out if I could place an order for my desired date. After many attempts and much waiting, the owner (Julie) finally wrote me back saying she would be available to help me with my event. So, I did not look for other options. Within the next month, again several phone calls and emails were made to talk about the order itself. My mom is in the wedding business and even called twice. My event is tomorrow, and though I obviously locked down another option, I still to this day never heard back from Blue Cupcake. Not even one email or returned call to let me know she could no longer complete my order. I see constant updates to the website, meaning nothing catastrophic could have happened which would not allow the company to simply send one email reply canceling on me. Sure, the cupcakes look gorgeous and impressive online...but I don't care how beautiful your work is, a business should never treat customers disrespectfully. Very disappointed in my experience with Blue Cupcake. I would not recommend it. read more

julie is AMAZING! she is so creative and makes these wonderfully beautiful cupcakes that you don't want to eat because they are too cute. but then you eat one and you can't stop! she made our wedding cake & cupcakes with the most adorable birds and flowers - so unbelievable! my favorite is the caramel cupcake. it's like heaven. we had 3 different flavors and not one was left at the end of the night! SUCCESS! three other great things? julie is so sweet, her prices are crazy affordable (she a freaking artist and should be asking double but please don't tell her!) AND when you hire her she gives you about 12 cupcakes to try out for flavors. YUMMY! read more

I found Julie on her blog and her creations are just amazing to see! After the tasting we were sold. She made an adorable cupcake tower with a 6 inch cutting cake on top for our wedding. She worked with our wedding colors and did trials of what the cupcakes will look like to make sure it was to our liking. She was easy to work with and she really is affordable compared to other cupcake places we checked out. We went to at least 4 other cupcake stores and Julie's creations are equal or better in taste and look at a lower price. Don't forget you also save money and bypass the cake cutting costs that the venue charges you $1.50 to $3 per person for! read more

I had my daughters 4th birthday party at the coop on Dec 19, 2015. (Just last weekend!) Cupcakes from this bakery were provided as part of the package I had bought. I am very happy with the decorations on the cupcakes, and the way they turned out. They were very tasty, my favorite was the salted caramel. Really wonderful cupcakes - far better than any others that I have tried. Unfortunately, it is almost impossible find them. Carmela's ice cream in Pasadena carries three flavors and they taste slightly frozen and thawed, though still delicious. However, I've had lots of other flavors from when she had a stand at the Pershing Square farmers' market and then a now defunct coffee shop in downtown L.A. and I really wish I could get my dirty paws on some of those other flavors. read more

I recommend Julie 200%. I had a Yo Gabba Gabba Birthday theme and she made my party so special. I will treasure these memories forever. We ordered salted caramel, red velvet, vanilla and chocolate. I am addicted. I ate 7 cupcakes in the first evening, I have never had cupcakes this delicious! Julies artwork is incomparable. I feel as though it was a gift to have had her do our party and we will be booking her every year until my child is 19. Every salted caramel was gone within 5 minutes. The vanilla is a soft buttery moist cake and it has a hint of choc center. I am in heaven- Julie was amazing, she set up and the presentation was gorgeous. Blue Cupcake created a dessert bar and coconut wedding cake for my April wedding. I can not say enough amazing things about them. They were able to work with me and create a beautiful cake for my budget. EVERYONE raved about the desserts, especially the coconut cake. I was told by multiple people the desserts were the best they ever tasted. I really hope I can use Blue Cupcake again. Already excited to order another cake for my anniversary next year :) read more
