This is one of my favorite places to meet my girlfriends for lunch. They have a case, completely cramp packed full of desserts and I always have to get one or two to take home with me. Their food is pretty standard, run-of-the-mill Dier/deli type food. I usually get a grilled cheese sandwich and a salad or a bowl of soup because I'm a vegetarian and those are about the only options I have. They serve iced tea which is really delicious and they also have sodas, but I prefer the tea. I've never had trouble with the service there or any employees being rude or unkind. And the prices are very equivalent to most places in the area today. read more

Placed my order, Online, a bit of a fiasco. When I went to go pick up my order, I was going to be charged again. For some reason their system did not pick up my payment. Even though they did receive my order. And apparently it was ready when I got there. That was great. After much fuss the sweet lady that seemed to be in charge made the executive decision to accept my proof of payment on my credit card and email. I am definitely a fan of "desserts" and loved that they had many choices...I am visiting a friend and we came here for lunch! I ordered a spinach salad, and it came with a ton of bacon on it!!! Winning already! And I ordered millionaire pie for dessert...I have never seen it sold anywhere so the fact that they had it...I had to order. The spinach salad with honey mustard dressing was amazing and hit the spot! The mini blueberry muffin was very tasty! as well! My friend ordered her favorite pimento cheese sandwich, which I learned is a "Texas thing"...never heard of it. I had to get stuff to go..chess pie and lemon bars!!! Good bakery for ordering Cakes for special events. I was a bit hesitant to order from Sugarbakers because the yelp reviews have quite a few bad experiences noted. I ended up preordering an 8" cake due to a personal recommendation from a family member. For me, the experience was smooth. It is a large sandwich, the pulled pork was about 3 tablespoons right in the middle of the sandwich!! The pickle was cut up in chunks and put on the sandwich. We've ate here 3 times and the service and food is absolutely delicious. They use fresh quality ingredients. They truly care about their customers being taken care of. Stopped by from out of town. Picked up 4 pieces of pie and not impressed at all. I'm a baker and found the pies nearly inedible. The whipped cream was so overbeaten on each pie that it was essentially butter. The banana split, lemon, and key lime cream pies were very firm, again, from overbeating the cream and turning it into butter. If you enjoy eating sweetened butter, then you'll love it. I found the pies cloyingly sweet, and the texture was all off and felt like eating a stick of butter. Pass. read more

Very mediocre. I had the turkey breast sandwich with a Caesar salad and some potato chips thrown on. It wasn't presented nicely the turkey was straight up lunch meat not proper turkey and the salad was probably a bag salad. Not terrible but certainly not worth 10$+. Stopped in here for a late lunch. Had the Meat Lover's Quiche, which was excellently cooked, but would have been a better choice for breakfast/brunch than lunch. It came with a salad and their raspberry dressing, which was a little sweet for my taste. It was a rough day and my diet was shot, so I decided to follow it up with a piece of Italian Cream cake. Holy cow!! Huge slice and the cake was delicious. Moist, flavorful and the icing was just sweet enough without being overpowering. I preface this review with the fact that my previous experiences with Sugarbakers have been good ones, so I'm not sure where the breakdown in communication and quality occurred. A few weeks ago, our company enlisted Sugarbakers to provide 200+ cupcakes for a celebration we would be having on site. The cupcakes were simple; Vanilla with Buttercream Icing and black writing on top. The order was large, but they gladly accepted said order and set a time we could pick them up which would be right on time for the event itself. It wasn't until we'd picked them up and actually served the cupcakes that we realized they were overcooked. The cupcakes themselves were dry and rather than the golden brown one would expect from a properly baked Cupcake, they were burnt / dark and crunchy around the top, a discovery only made upon biting into said cupcake. This was a general complaint from all who partook and led to an immediate call made to the Bakery in regard to the issues with the order. The first of three calls resulted in being told the Manager was "On a call" and would return the call. We were fine with that as they are a busy business. After the same message was given upon 2 subsequent callbacks, the third ending in the girl who answered the phone disconnecting with an attitude, I opted to leave this review as a serious expression of my disappointment with what was once a reputable bakery here in Lubbock. It had to have been VERY obvious the cupcakes were overbaked before they iced and boxed them up, so to still serve such low quality product is alarming considering their business statement "Savor wonderful food". I've been a loyal patron of this establishment for five years until today. I had easily one of the most disappointing experiences with them today. For the second consecutive day I placed a delivery order through Grubhub from them. I received a phone call from an employee at Sugarbakers stating they didn't have the flavor of $6.50 cherry cheesecake I had requested, so they offered me an alternative cheesecake with cherries which I accepted but a manager in the background was telling the lady on the phone not to offer that flavor, because it is a $2.00 upgrade. When I questioned her about taking back the offer she said she would make the exchange with no worries. We hung up satisfied; yet I immediately received a call back from the same lady stating to get the other cherry cheesecake, I needed to go back on Grubhub to cancel my order and reorder with the higher priced replacement cheesecake. I said if I had to do that, I would just cancel my whole order. I explained how poor customer service this was, given the fact I did nothing wrong and I'm a loyal customer. She said I could talk to her manager and placed me on hold. The manager came on without identifying herself (it was today 10/25 around noon) and I explained that I would rather cancel my order than have to reorder over $2.00. I explained how disappointed I was with this customer service and how they were willing to treat a loyal customer this way. She NEVER apologized and said she could just cancel the order as her response. I'm absolutely not a complainer at restaurants, and have taken many people to this establishment and referred many others. I'm taken back with how apathetic this manager was to the situation and wasn't even willing to make the shortage right over a $2.00 difference. I think it's important to note that I never requested the upgrade, I was proactively offered it and then it was retracted on a second call with directions to REORDER AND PAY MORE. It is highly unlikely I will ever return as a customer after this experience. VERY DISAPPOINTED! P.S. - Because of the inconvenience, Grubhub gave me (without a complaint from me) a $5.00 credit towards another order. THAT'S HOW YOU PROVIDE CUSTOMER SERVICE! read more

Very good cinnamon rolls! We stopped in on a Monday at 10 and it was empty. Service wasn't a problem. Sign on the door said "help needed" and "please be patient, we're understaffed." All I wanted was some cinnamon rolls for my kids. The rolls were HUGE. We asked them to warm them up and they were delicious. My husband got a club sandwich and he loved it (so did my son who ate half). I didn't like the vegetable quiche I ordered but the FRUIT! The freshest fruit I have EVER eaten at a Lubbock restaurant in 10 years. It comes with some type of berry yogurt sauce? Idk but that sauce was yummy too. Beautiful presentation of all items too. I like that the beverages are self serve including the coffee. We ordered cookies but I didn't get to try them before my kids ate them all. The graduation cookies were like $2+ each so we didn't get those. I actually thought the food was way over priced when I paid. But after enjoying the taste and the atmosphere it was worth the pay, especially knowing they are short staffed and everyone is probably doing multiple jobs to help out. read more

I have friends that like this place but I know the savory food is not edible so I tried dessert today. You would think spending eight dollars on lemon pie and a simple coffee the pie would be tasty. The pie had not even a hint of lemon taste at all and it was so firm it was ridiculous. The so called whipped cream was not even edible. The coffee was cold. I placed a somewhat large order from Sugarbakers at the suggestion of my team only to be very disappointed. After spending over $400 to try and support local, what we got were burned cupcakes and then a refusal from anyone in charge to have the decency to call me back. Each time I called I was told the person I needed to speak with was on another important call and asked I leave my name and number. Never received that call back. I tried one more time this morning only to get attitude from the lady who answered the phone. I will NEVER use this place again. As soon as I picked up the "vanilla cupcakes". I noticed immediately that they were a darker brown than what I expected. As soon as we passed them out the complaints came that they were over baked and some tasted burned. The last thing a business can do is have poor customer service. Not only did we get a bad product we got poor customer after the fact. My sister-in-law took my great niece and I to Sugarbakers for lunch today. We've been here several times and have throughly enjoyed the food. Today was a huge disappointment. My serving size was small and the plate was dirty. My niece finished her salad and found a black hair at the bottom. My sister-in-law's plate had large chips in it. They were kind enough to fix my plate and did offer a refund for the salad. The young ladies also offered apologies for the issues. With two complaints from one table about hairs and dirty plates we got the feeling the management didn't care. There was no visit to our table from the manager to offer an apology and I know it's customary for this to be done. Like many we will not be having our usual huge family gathering this Thanksgiving. We always look forward to the great holiday feast. Unfortunately, our appetites exceed our talent in the kitchen. We knew we would have to look to one of the many places offering Thanksgiving meals already prepared. We seen a television advertisement for Sugarbakers Cafe & Bakery offering Thanksgiving meals for sale. The menu was easy to understand and ordering was a breeze. The turkey as advertised on the menu was 10-12lbs for $60.99. We were excited that we wouldn't have to worry about providing a Thanksgiving meal for our small family. We picked up our meal and noticed that our turkey seemed a little light. We decided to weigh the turkey to make sure we weren't imagining things and noticed that it only weighed a bit over 4lbs. We decided to call Sugarbakers and make sure that it wasn't some sort of mistake. After all, the turkey was $60.99. The person we spoke to explained that the 10-12lbs advertised on the menu was before cooking and preparation. I answered her by saying "I must have missed that on the menu". She told me that they didn't put it on there. I asked if I could get a bigger turkey and she said that they only order one size. She quickly offered to take back the turkey and give us a refund but we aren't likely to take that offer this late in the game. Times are tough this year and we were really looking to get value for our dollar. This was a big disappointment. Such a disappointment. The soup was a whole lot of macaroni and a little bit of liquid. The gourmet hot open faced sandwich was cold and skimpy with congealed cheese on top. Grew up going to this place and spending summers at my mom's after we moved overseas. I'd call and order a coconut cream pie for her on my mom's birthday and have her go by and get it - since I was in England and she was in Lubbock, it was as close as I could get to baking one for her. We've always loved Sugarbakers! We don't get to Lubbock very often anymore but when we do, you can be sure we go to Sugarbakers at least once if not more.
