I will be fair: I did not actually try the cakes here. However, the service even before getting the product was enough for me to want to leave this review. I walked in yesterday and asked for help with getting a custom made cake for my wife's birthday. Specifically, I asked for a portfolio of work they had done or models that were available. The person working simply said, "We don't have that. You can look at our Facebook page." At no point did the person working ever attempt to help me figure out how to get a cake, what would be a workable solution, what the prices might be, ideas for a cake...you know, things that a cake shop might do. When I finally did pull up the Facebook page and managed to find something that might work, she mentioned a price that it would "start" at. Nothing even definite. I could've gone to the Cheesecake Factory and had something more definite. For the most part, she just stood there and acted like I wasn't even in the store. I've honestly never been to a store that was so dismissive of someone trying to get their business. If this is any indication of how they treat potential customers, I'd hate to see how they treat actual customers who put money down. read more

Only because the freindly owner messaged me becuase she was genuinely concerned that I had an isolated bad experienced. She was right. It was warm and gooey! The inside was nice and soft. I went in two hours before they were closing and although the cake I ordered was dry, the cheesecake I ordered was amazing. Also, the coffee was really great. They had this cute little coffee bar, well the whole place was adorable, like it has been since it was open. The case was clean and the service was friendly. I even asked to take pictures and the owner was fine with that. This place has been here for some time but I usually just end up forgetting about it. I should not however because this place has the best coffee that I have found in a bakery. It's amazing it's worth the cost of getting it from a place that makes it here instead of getting regular coffee. I ordered a cake for someone a week later and couldn't resist another amazing cup of coffee, besides my raving for the coffee the service was incredible everyone was smiling and happy to let me take pictures. Stopped by after having The Chili Dog Cafe, upon walking in, I have to say I was impressed by the simplicity of the offerings, they looked beautiful, and the sales girl was friendly and helpful in explaining the day's offerings. We ordered a creme brulee, one triple chocolate brownie, one goat cheese brownie, 3 macaroons (one Vanilla, one pink champagne and one chocolate) one carrot cake cupcake and one chocolate cupcake. I started the creme brulee in the car, was more like a rice pudding with a plexiglass crust, it was soggy and runny plus the crust didn't crackle, it laid there, impervious to my spoon. Gave up after a couple of bites as the flavor wasn't worth the fight. My SO took a bite of the brownie and said it tasted more like fudge, a cold chewy fudge, I tasted it and there was nothing cakey about it, no moistness or anything that said brownie. I tried the goat cheese brownie and it was the same, an overwhelming goaty tasting fudge with a chewy film on top from the glaze. The macaroons were crunchy (not crisp..there's a difference) and they all tasted the same. There was no subtlety or delicacy to the flavor, nothing to savor or nibble on. With trepidation we each took a bite of the cupcakes, the icing was greasy and the cupcakes had nothing special to them..nothing that screamed carrot or chocolate that made me want to take another bite. I've had better from a grade school bake sale, after a long day in the sun. We spent over 20.00 and didn't finish anything, felt very underwhelmed and disappointing for a bakery that bills itself as the #1 scratch bakery in Lubbock. My wife and I decided for our 10 year anniversary to recreate our wedding cake in a smaller version. We explained that we wanted a TWO TIER small wedding cake to recreate what we had on our wedding day. There was even a reference cake in the bakery that we discussed as the size and number of tier's we wanted. When we pick the cake up today, it was a 1 TIER, TWO LAYER CAKE and not the TWO TIER that we ordered. When my wife discussed this with the person we ordered the cake with the reply was...."THAT WAS YOUR MISTAKE", and that she was trying that day to explain what she was going to make by saying "Two Tiers", but we repeatedly told her "TWO TIERS, ONE SMALLER CAKE ON TOP OF A LARGER CAKE, LIKE A WEDDING CAKE". It's hard to believe that a bakery does not know the difference between "LAYERS" and "TIERS". Here is some reference between the two, for this bakery..... "Difference between Tier and Layer Cake LAYER CAKES are comprised of 2 layers of cake with a flavored filling OR buttercream frosting (sandwiched) between them. These cakes are referred to by their diameter. ... TIERED CAKES consist of multiple layer cakes of different sizes stacked on top of each other like a traditional wedding cake." The cake does look good, I hope when we taste it tonight that it is good. I would not recommend this bakery to anyone with any orders that you would consider to be for a special occasion. Custom ordered a mint, peach, and ivory ombre rosette cake for my 2YO birthday party and was very very pleased with the elegant beauty, colors, and flavors! It was a traditional whipped icing vanilla cake. I love their thumbprints cookies so I had to custom order a few dozen as well. Rather a cute little to-go dessert store that smells wonderful the moment you walk in. They don't really have all the necessary condiments or much, if any, desserts to run a dessert store in my opinion. The biggest factor on the condiments were that they didn't have an ice machine or a water station for those that wanted water (I could kinda see through their action plan on trying to make more money on that but on the other hand, I guess not a lot of people stop by and stay around a while to chat like we did.) They also didn't have much desserts on display when we stopped by for dessert in the middle of one fine afternoon (about 1pmish) after shabu shabu next door. I guess they just started baking (hence the smell) but I don't think it's a good look to be portraying to the patrons who come here looking for some desserts as soon as they open, which is pretty late. Was kind of disappointed that the cakes, pies and cheesecakes were all just pre-packaged in small containers that were already starting to form moisture in the containers (probably am guessing that they were old because some of the cheesecakes that my friends bought was frozen and hard to eat.) IN CONCLUSION: I guess they're the call and pre-order kind of industry (basing off the reviews) and not a stop by dessert store that I was thinking of. However, their snickerdoodle coffee is great so stop by for some of that and maybe a cheesecake or two of what they have currently available which won't be much, just FYI. read more

Lubbock's best local bakery! I own shop here in town, Gatsby's Coffeehouse, and we source some of our pastries from Krista and her friendly staff. The cinnamon rolls are delicious and a customer favorite! We also get the chocolate goat cheese brownies with raspberry chipotle glaze (sounds a bit weird, but anyone who has ever tried it absolutely loves it - it's good to pair with a cappuccino!) We order various different flavors of macaroons (my favorite is chocolate but lemon is also super good). The customer service is out of this world. Krista always goes out of her way to make sure your experience is amazing. Also, be sure to try the raspberry cheesecake next time you're in! It's my most favorite thing! read more

I only had their macarons, so my review will be specifically about their macarons. The ideal French macarons should have (1) no hollow, (2) not gooey or too dry shells, and (3) flavorful butter cream or guanache in the middle. I had their macarons three times so far and it has been disappointing. When I bite into a macaron, I immediately noticed a big hollow. Under the outer layer, what is needed is raised dough. As soon as I noticed this hollow, I was fearful of trying further. I bit into further, and there was a gooey dough that was not baked to raise properly. The cream was nothing special. It was a sweet butter cream but without much attempt to make it very flavorful. As the macarons as very sensitive to air temperature and moisture when drying the shells and baking, I gave them two other attempts. However, my experience was exactly the same. The 'pie' ('foot' in French referring to the crinkled dough at the bottom) was the only thing that made it look like the French macarons - but the texture of the shell and the cream need to be worked out further. I recommend them using Italian merengue and experiment with the oven a bit more and check the amount of 'macaronage' to improve the texture. A bonus point for trying to bring "French macarons' to Lubbock. But I hope they had a chance to eat macarons by Pierre Herme to find out how the 'ideal' macarons should taste like. read more

I use to live in Lubbock and this was my go-to place for sweets. Now every time I visit lubbock I go here every time! The desserts I always always get are the ginger snaps, cinnamon rolls, raspberry brownie (I love my brownies fudgy), and lemon bars. I take my goodies to my grandparents all the time and they just love it. I have recently tried their macarons and I was not disappointed. They clearly didn't even look at the paper to see what the product was supposed to say. No eye for detail. Thank goodness I wasn't on a time crunch and that it wasn't a wedding cake!!! The little girl up front didn't know how to use the computer system both times I came in. The guy is the only one who seems to know how to use it. A new system is no excuse a week later- learn how to use it or get out of the cash register. Presentation 3/5. The writing was not very neat. The pieces weren't even remotely even. Taste/texture: 4/5. Taste was yummy. To many seeds and probably should have baked a little longer. I had high expectations as I love to support local bakeries. This bakery has a broad offering also is a scratch bakery... hard job for sure and precision is key!We tried several things . Smelled so delicious when we walked in and then the bad happened. Our snickerdoodle cookie was the best by far. Our chocolate cupcake was moist but flat and not a fan of the slick frosting. Our brownie was very dense, cold fudge consistency, too hard to bite and no utensils in site. The employees were very busy and distracted in the back so not much to offer for customer service. The very worst part was the coffee. Older reviews had pictures of a pretty full coffee bar with other drinks options so we thought we had found a great cake and coffee spot. Nope, they now use a Kurig with ONE custom filled cup. They had to rinse and fill the one cup for each of our coffees in the back, refill the Kurig water and so on. By the time all of the trips to the back and my coffee were done, we were finished eating and ready to go and quite irritated. There were no other drink options to my knowledge. Might be great custom order and pick up bakery but they are not suited to stopping in for a snack and and drink. read more
