After seeing all the bad reviews I had to give a tut to the Cakery Lubbock for the wonderful cake they made for my son. I called about a week in advance thinking they may not have enough time to make an allergen-free cake for my son. I was so happy when they said it would be no problem. Gave my details and made the pickup for a day ahead in case any issues happen. Mind you this is the only bakery I could find that would make an egg/nut-free cake for my son's birthday party. I went to Market Place, HEB, and Walmart, no one had a clue how to make an egg-free cake. I looked online and found the Cakery in Lubbock. She did tell me she would need two weeks out for a specialty cake when I tried to order for another occasion. I needed the cake the next day. However, my wife decided to throw a birthday party for my son and we had to make invitations, so I was in luck and they did it within a week. Cannot be more happy with the cake. When I showed up the cake was not ready, she explained that the cake is too wet, we had major rain overnight and humidity was very high. So I understood. I came back about an hour later, she asked for thirty minutes and I was early anyway, so I got some last-minute shopping done. Now the important part, the cake was so moist. Even after keeping it overnight in the refrigerator. OMG, the best vegan cake I have ever eaten. Everyone at the party finished their slices which is unusual for a birthday cake in my experience. Usually way too sweet. The cake was perfectly balanced between sweet and savory. Even after it sat out for hours we brought what little was left over. It was still moist the next day. My new favorite cake place. I don't care if you like the competition. I will pay for quality and not sugar. Just have to give it to them for an awesome cake that my son loved. I've always loved this little bakery. I love the snickerdoodle cupcakes they are my favorite, she also makes fabulous breakfast roll/ danish/ croissants.. but today I discovered something new! She makes giant petit fours!! They are the size of cupcakes and she said they were special order and she always has 3 left over..well today was my lucky day! They were FABULOUS!! Let me start out by saying that I have a major sweet tooth and I have visited my fair share of bakeries. I recently moved back home to Lubbock, but I have lived in Austin, the Dallas area, several places in Florida, and I have traveled extensively throughout the U.S. Over the years, I have patronized dozens of bakeries throughout the U.S, so believe me when I say that Lubbock, TX has a true gem in The Cakery. My family absolutely loves this place! They carry a wide selection of cupcakes on a daily basis, and all are delicious. Their buttercream frosting is fantastic - a wonderful consistency and sweet (but not too sweet) flavor. The cupcakes themselves are of a lighter and fluffier consistency than cupcakes you find in most bakeries, which are often very dense and lacking flavor. My first experience with The Cakery was a few weeks ago when a friend ordered a cake and cookies for her sons birthday party. They were decorated beautifully and tasted amazing. My teenage daughter is a notoriously picky eater and doesn't care much for sweets, but she absolutely loves the frosted sugar cookies (which I have recently learned are actually tea cake cookies). In addition to the phenomenal baked goods offered at The Cakery, the staff is extremely friendly and they go out of their way to accommodate your needs. My daughter begged me to pick up some of their cookies, so we went today after school. The owner informed me that they were out of the cookies, but they had some extra dough left over from an order they were working on. She offered to bake them for us right there on the spot, even though the staff was somewhat short handed. In about 15 minutes, we walked out the door with a batch of freshly baked cookies. From now on, The Cakery is the only place we will order cakes for birthdays, holidays, and all other special occasions. Do yourself a favor and check it out. The $135 centerpiece for my bestie's 60th birthday was a mess. I went by at lunch because I was on that side of town. It was not begun. No worries - picked it up after three our designated pick up time. We cut into a frozen cake, melted and wet in the center and frozen in the middle. The icing was sliding in globs all off the cake server. I ordered a choc/white cake and got white. Instead of feeding it to the owner I thought, maybe too busy since grad weekend. I will give her opportunity to adjust my cost for an accidental tragedy! Had been ordered for three weeks! She called me a liar, said all her cakes are frozen and that she does not refund or adjust. I reluctantly placed a custom cupcake order from this bakery and spoke with them several times via phone and email to confirm simple instructions. Of course when we picked them up they were still wrong...I don't know if that's typical but the excuse was because the "intern did them." Said intern did a terrible job piping the icing and only half of some were covered. When we went back to get the sprinkles added, they were so minimal they weren't even noticeable. I could've gotten better quality at Market Street for half the price. Most of the icing on these is discolored because the intern didn't have the foresight to change/clean the piping tip. I will never stray from using The Ruffled Cup again! They're the BEST. read more

The Cakery Is delicious. I'm not the biggest fan of sweets like cupcakes; but, on a recent trip to Lubbock, my wife, daughter and I got a taste of these and wanted more. One of the first things I noticed was how much less expensive their prices are compared with anything in the DFW area. After tasting their banana pudding and red velvet flavors, though, I knew this wasn't some sort of knock-off. I think these guys do a better job at what they do than anyone else. I'm not sure where to begin... I used The Cakery for my wedding this past weekend. We had around 120 guests and decided to serve cupcakes and have a small two tier cake for ourselves. After speaking with numerous bakeries in town, I felt that The Cakery had some of the most delicious flavors and decent prices. I was also sold on the fact that the cupcakes and cake would be delivered and set up for us - on your wedding weekend the less you have to do the better, right? Unfortunately after the contract was signed and the money was paid I found it difficult to get ahold of the owner. I understand she is very busy, however when all you're asking is confirmation of cake flavors I wouldn't think it would take several days to respond. Then to my dismay, I learned that the baker arrived to my venue in a rush and made it clear that she had other places to be. While I myself did not witness this, both of my parents as well as one of the venue directors commented on it and how unprofessional the interaction was. To me it's just uncalled for. When it's your only child's wedding day - someone rushing in and making it clear that YOU, the current PAYING customer, are not a priority is a big problem. Then to top it off she didn't leave any boxes for leftover cupcakes or a box for our top tier that was to be used as an anniversary cake. To me that was truly one of the worst things. My poor parents had to shove cupcakes in cardboard boxes, decor storage bins, and then pray that they would get smashed in the travel home (which they definitely did). So now our anniversary cake is smashed in, the cupcakes are smashed in, and I'm left feeling like I wasted money. Sure the cake tastes great, but what does any of it matter if the customer service isn't there? I mean really ... not leaving a box for at least the anniversary cake is just flat out rude and inconsiderate. All in all if you just want a quick cupcake this is your place, but I personally would not recommend The Cakery for anyone's wedding/event. read more

We ran back up to the shop after the party & were told the owner would call us back. Her husband called instead & said the cake looked just like the picture and that it wasn't dry. I am a wedding photographer based in Dallas. I was second shooting with a Lubbock photographer yesterday at the Baker Building. The bride called to check on delivery for the wedding cake and grooms cake. The bakery had no information of their order and treated them rudely. The bride had already paid for her order in full and had signed receipts from the shop. They did however complete the cakes on time and delivered them. My sister and I consider ourselves somewhat of cupcake connoisseurs, being from Austin with all the amazing food trucks..and I am disappointed to say this place was NOT worth the trip. We were so excited, and drove literally across town, 20 miles, to get there only to be extremely let down. I loved our cake. It was wonderful. The reason for the three stars is because when I called to set up our cake for our vow renewal celebration we talked about having pink and yellow roses. There were no roses on the cake. The butterflies was to be in pastel colors to match the roses. They were in bright colors. Since I live in Tennessee we talked about that I would bring the ribbon and cake topper when I got there. The ribbon nor the cake topper made it on the cake. I had to go and pick up the cake topper after we were done. Also the cake was 45 minutes late getting there. I had tried getting a cake once before and it was so dry. I was using another person's recommendation. When I got that one it was so dry so I was hesitant to get another one there. When I told them that they told me that the red velvet are always dry. Wish they had told me that the first time. I was disappointed with the decorations on the cake but loved the butterfinger cake. It was yummy. read more

We ordered a cowboy boot cake of which they had a picture of one they had made before that was awesome!! It was exactly what I expected to get but absolutely not what I got it paid for at $400, the cake itself was very good but the boot decorations on top was absolutely unacceptable, they looked like my grand children made them. They were supposed to deliver the cake between 3:30-4:30 and didn't get there until right before the wedding started. My 9 year old daughter and I came in on Friday, February 6, to order her birthday cake. I had never been in The Cakery before, but decided to go there as my best friend's wedding cake was from there and was fantastic. Another reason I chose The Cakery is because my daughter wanted a red velvet cake. We usually get our cakes at another place in town, but they don't do red velvet cakes, and I had thought of just some place like the grocery store, but theirs is terrible, in my opinion. So, I decided to give The Cakery a try. Unfortunately, it didn't work out well. We spoke with a man for the order. We told him the birthday party was Tuesday, February 10, at 4:00. He acted very dubious about being able to have a cake done on Tuesday and asked what was the latest we could pick it up. I said 3:30, which was truly the latest with a party starting at 4:00 across town from The Cakery. So, he proceeded to take our order. We had an edible image to be placed on the cake, so there wasn't really any decorating to do other than piping some icing around the edge. My daughter didn't even want writing on it. When he told me it was $60, I nearly cancelled the whole thing, but I was short on time to get this taken care of, and didn't really know where else to go for a good red velvet cake, so I went on and paid. On Tuesday, my in-laws went in at 3:30 to pick up the cake. It wasn't ready. In fact, they called me at 10 minutes till 4:00 and said the cake was being iced. I was incredulous! So, they had to miss part of their granddaughter's party because of this. Also, I had to rearrange the order of events because the cake wasn't there. Then, to top it all off, when it finally came time to have the cake, it wasn't even red velvet! It was chocolate. I sent an email to them to tell them what had happened. Two days later, they hadn't responded, so I called. I asked to speak to one of the owners. Kim, who answered, said she was a manager. I told her I had sent an email. She said they were so busy, no one had even had a chance to be in the office and read emails. So I proceeded to tell her what had happened. She was very defensive right off the bat. And before I even told her that the cake wasn't red velvet, it was chocolate, she started to say that the cake was red velvet, and theirs just looks different. Hmmm... Really, Kim, nobody had time to read emails? She lied right to me. Then, she wouldn't even let me get a word in. She was just talking over me. I had to just hang up. I would not recommend getting a cake that is for an important event because if they mess up, they will not make it right. read more

This stupid bakery gave us PINK cupcakes - I'm having a boy!! yes they totally messed up our gender reveal!! I called my doctor to confirm and we are having a boy. The note we gave this place said boy!! The Cakery specializes in cupcakes and they could not do the correct color for a cupcake?!? To top it off they do not want to give my mom her refund back but give her store credit?!?! Are you kidding me?!? We will never do business with you again!!
