Ok.....to start with this is a nice place....with nice employees and a courteous owner. The food was very good as well, I would give 3 1/2 stars if that was available. The only reason for the three stars was it's pretty pricey. I understand why it could be pricey. Starting a business after a pandemic and all could explain that and I don't blame them. It's still a little heavy on the pocket but I will definitely be back, just not as much lol. The food was 5 stars. I only had a tea and an almond scone. The scone was very good and the tea was just like I like it. The fried French toast was a big hit with my daughter. The avocado toast looked good as well. The whipped cream and coffee/hazelnut cream cheese served with the French toast was made on location which is always a good sign. Presentation was also 5 stars. They know what they are doing preparing and presenting a plate. The decor and layout is a solid 4 stars. It's a unique cafe for the area. I'm sure it's going to be popular. They were still working on the place so I'm sure it will get better too. (I am by no means a decor expert but it looked pretty cool inside.) I'll be back on occasion to try other things on the menu....the three stars is by no means a bad review. read more

Quick tip: Parking in the rear of the establishment is limited to certain time periods of the day. Your safest bet is to park on the side street half a block down from the cafe. If I remember, parking in front of the cafe is available, but it is a tight squeeze on located on one side of the street. We were hoping to find a fanciful spot for the kids to inspire their imagination of faeries, but arrived to a do-it-for-the-gram venue instead. Oh well, kids will be kids and it appeared that we were a bit too ambitious with our search that day! To be clear, there is nothing wrong with the latter. With that being said, Sugar Tree Cafe presents many great photo ops. Indulging patrons with boutique vibes, the venue delivers a cozy cafe experience where you can sip on tea and snack on small eats as you enjoy the playful interior decor. Yes, it is a bit of a tight fit and there is a set of small steps to get to the other parts of the cafe, but it is more or less manageable for anyone considering on bringing in a stroller. Once inside, there are really 3 distinct areas for photo ops. Each of these areas have a bit of a different theme, but all compliment that cozy, boutique cafe feeling. It really is more of a place to hang out with your friends and chat it up, rather than conducting business or doing work. Definitely a neat place to host a baby-shower, or large group of friends. The menu is quite diverse with a variety of drinks to include shakes and eats. We ordered several things from the menu to try it out and were satisfied with what we got. The Funfetti shake is definitely a bit too sweet, but the nice English tea along with the Nitro fries balanced it out. While the staff were super friendly and helpful (they were incredible with our kids), I would say that the venue itself is not suited for young children - there is minimal room for them to run a round and explore. Seemed as if not a single employee knew exactly what their role was which made the service so chaotic - it took 15 minutes to take a single person's order. Their menu items were also expensive for what they were. A red velvet milkshake & iced matcha latte ended up being almost $20. My mom liked the flavor of their red velvet milkshake but you could taste chunks of cake that it seemed like it was placed in a blender for a few seconds at most. My iced matcha latte was ALL milk with a single drop of matcha powder, one of the worst I've ever had. If you're looking for a pretty cafe for pictures & the ambience, this is your place to be. This is now my second time here and immensely becoming my home away from home. The hanging tree/flowers are so calming. The decor is absolutely stunning. It's like NYC vibes right in Nutley,NJ. I ordered the burrata salad and my sister ordered the pork belly sandwich. The salad was absolutely delicious! The pork belly sandwich looked pretty tasty. I was salivating for a taste. It did look kinda of hard to eat just like that. A knife would had gone a long way, but they didn't have any. :( I also do know they have a limited menu, but it would a fantastic add on if they offered the opportunity to add a protein to the salad. I love Sugar Tree Cafe. The staff are always very friendly. The ambiance is peaceful but lively. There are multiple different seating sections to choose from including the busier and more energetic front of house underneath the amazing indoor faux tree and flowers, at a bar looking out the front window, or in the back in the cozy "library" area. Whomever decorated has a great touch for sure. In terms of food we've tried the avocado toast (excellent) and the breakfast sandwich (also great). They have pastries and a lot of other great menu options that I look forward to trying. Of course the lattes and cappuccinos don't disappoint either. S'more milkshake was an A+ as well. The ambiance of this place when you walk in is so different and a hidden gem in Nutley,NJ. I took my girlfriend out here after a self care day. The food is amazing. We had the lunch option. This place is definitely the new chill spot in the Nutley area. Stopped by at around 1pm on Sunday and they were super busy. Lots of parking available in the back and on the street. The interior is nicely decorated with a lot of attention to details, even the bathrooms were clean and decorated. I did run into some issues with the seating. At first I was told that I would be seated at the front of the cafe however after I ordered I noticed that our spot was offered to someone else. We were then moved to the back in a super small and cramped area, but after speaking to the staff they were able to accommodate us and moved us to a different table. A bit disappointed with the seating situation as there are way too many people and not enough tables. For food I ordered the Buffalo cauliflower salad which was delicious and a decent portion size. My bf got the avocado toast with egg and he really enjoyed it. We shared an order of the nitro fries which I highly recommend trying. For drinks I got the half lemonade and half iced tea and my bf got the French vanilla cappuccino. I also tried the green tea with jasmine but it was just a regular teabag. I definitely recommend ordering coffee drinks rather than the tea options. The prices are definitely on the higher end, overall we spent around $60 for 4 drinks and the food. Super cute cafe with a variety of things on their menu to try! Got the BLT frittata today along with the chocolate croissant. The frittata is very fresh and tasted good, but a bit bland. They have a coffee station with self-serve water and condiments, so we picked up some chalula hot sauce from there, and it tasted so much better. The croissant I ate last and I'm not sure if it was warm and crisp when we got it, but it would have tasted better if it was. I'll definitely eat that first next time to see. Meanwhile, we got there early in the morning so there wasn't a rush and we got to take some really nice photos. read more

I'm honestly surprised at the negative reviews for this place! The only negative is that they don't take reservations and that the wait can sometimes be ridiculously long, but let's be honest that happens with a lot of places that aren't receiving the same amount of flack as this place. I was completely prepared to be underwhelmed by Sugar Tree, mainly because 1) the decorating scheme looks like the board game Pretty Pretty Princess threw up all over the place and 1a) it seems as if the primary purpose of opening this restaurant was so young adult females could Instagram it. It's set up as a classic style over substance situation, and yet this is a rare time where the style and substance both rise to the occasion - a very pleasant surprise. I came here for brunch with my Millennial Chum (perfect target audience) on MLK Day. It was decently crowded but it didn't take us more than a minute to find seats in their faux library section. There were three or four sections within the cafe that each represented what I'd categorize as a kind of meta coffeehouse. One of the girls behind the counter helpfully instructed us on the ordering process and the open seat plan, where you just take residence somewhere and the staff finds you with your order. We'd heard about the edgy latte art (not sure where I was when that was invented) so we each ordered one of those (I think about $6 in total, $2 for the art specifically), along with the mac and cheese balls ($12) and deep fried French toast ($14) to share. Everything was brought to us within six or seven minutes, I'd say - pretty impressive service. The latte art is really something. I didn't want to bother the staff with questions when they had other customers, but it looked a lot like the edible screenprints that you sometimes see on cakes - it's definitely not like the pretty ye olde milk patterns that baristas show off. Mine held together until the very end of my latte. One piece of constructive feedback there is that the process of providing the pictures for the latte art is a little inefficient. The employee handling that needed someone with an iPhone (in this case the Millennial who was over the moon about getting her cat's image on top of her drink) to share the pictures to her phone, so I'm not clear what would have happened if it was just me and my poor Google Pixel. Maybe I would have had to text it? I'm not a Silicon Valley techie, so maybe there's an obvious way to streamline that, but it was definitely not a big deal for us. The latte photo ops were good enough, but the actual food was amazing too. The French toast is a MASSIVE serving, so even the two of us jointly attacking had trouble finishing it. I assumed deep fried meant it might be too crispy, but I thought it was perfect, with just the right amount of cinnamon coating. My friend felt the toast was a little thick, but we agreed to disagree there. The mac and cheese balls were excellent, and the Millennial Chum declared they were the best she's ever had. They were close to being that, in my opinion - the breading was a little thicker than I would have preferred, but I'm basically just nitpicking at this point. Very, very tasty. We did notice that waitresses at least twice brought the wrong food to parties near us, which is probably the result of the open seating policy. It may make sense for them to have a section of formal seating to limit that chaos in the future, but we were unaffected by the quasi-turmoil. What could have improved this experience? Not a whole lot. The Millennial Chum was pretty glum that the Babe Cave was full the whole time we were there ("It should be big enough for all the babes" was an actual quote from this meal), but it was close to perfect, especially if you're in need of some quality Gram material. read more

We came in at exactly 4pm, drove at least 1hr and 30mins to get here. They had no parking spaces only street parking. We walked in and as I was scanning the menu an employee told me the kitchen is closed and the only food we can get are the pastries that was laid out. It was very disappointing because they close at 5pm but kitchen closes at 4pm. They should have made closing at 4pm if no1 cant order anything besides the pastries that was on display. If they wanted time to clean up at every shift they could have made kitchen close at 4:30pm. The decorations were pretty but you can see that people were hogging the tables and chairs. They should also have a time limit of how long people can stay because if we did get seated there was nowhere to sit down as well. read more

Recently stopped by to enjoy a sweet treat and some coffee and I was not disappointed! Sugar Tree Cafe has such a beautiful interior and welcoming vibe. Definitely the perfect spot if you're looking for a brunch-type menu with Instagram-able decor. The staff was also very friendly and ensured quick service. Instead of physical menus, they offer a QR code to easily navigate their options. I decided to go with ordering the Sticky Bun and an Iced French Vanilla Latte with almond milk. The latte was definitely a 5/5 due to the amazingly strong coffee flavor and sweet addition of french vanilla. I was very happy to find that they offer dairy-free milk options, as well. The Sticky Bun was also delicious and had many flaky layers inside! I rate it a 4/5 since I think it would have been even better heated up! My sister ordered the Nitro Fries (Cajun seasoned, fried with rosemary and thyme with a side of hazelnut coffee Aioli) and Strawberry Vegan Shake (ice cream and fresh strawberries on a bed of fresh strawberries topped with whipped cream strawberry syrup and a vegan cookie), so you know I tried her food as well! The fries were fresh, hot & crispy and seasoned very well. I was unfortunately not the biggest fan of the coffee aioli, but the fries did not need a sauce at all! I rate them a 4/5. The Strawberry Vegan Shake was also delicious and the whipped cream on top tasted just like cool-whip. I would definitely recommend and I rate the shake a 4/5! I mean, have you been to a more Instagram-worthy cafe?! Probably not! This cafe is all the vibes, and nestled just a short drive from the Jersey City/Hoboken area - definitely worth the trip. When you enter, the decor will immediately stimulate your senses, with greenery, florals and color popping furniture. When we arrived I had to take a walk through the entire place before deciding where to sit! If you get there early enough you'll have the same luxury - but if you get there around 1PM on a weekend you'll just have to take whatever seat you can! Clearly a hot spot with folks traveling from near and far to take it all in. Alright, onto the food and drinks - The coffee was so smooth, I had two cups over my visit. They've got a selection of milk options, so talk to your barista when ordering. Next we had the Buffalo cauliflower and the pork belly sandwich. Both super tasty! To finish off with dessert, the vegan joy milkshake. I love an almond/coconut flavor and this was just the ticket. Bonus that this one is vegan. It was very filling, so I'd recommend having a friend to share with. While we were there, we also got let in on a secret - they're planning to update their menu seasonally, which means we'll have to come back in the fall for what I imagine will be my inner basic betch's dream brunch. Sadly this one fell short for me. The only reason they got three stars was for the decor and the presentation of the milkshakes we ordered. Upon coming in I noticed the pastry selection was very slim. Not many options and it all was pretty plain. Nothing special. Usually I like to grab a pastry alongside my drink, this was not the time. Love that they have vegan options as I can't have dairy. Ordered the vegan joy. Lacked flavor and was not as described online. The description said topped with bananas, coconut and almonds. There was no banana and no coconut topping as you can see in my picture. Pretty disappointed. It wasn't blended well, so nothing came through the straw. It just got stuck. They should definitely place in a spoon into the milkshakes, I don't feel like waiting half an hour for it to melt for me to be able to sip it. Tasted pretty bland. When the worker asked how I liked it, I was honest and said I sadly didn't. She suggested I come back and try another. You think I want to come back and spend another $13 after I had this yucky concoction? No thank you. It tasted like straight ice with some chocolate syrup. The shakes look nice to the eye - but in my opinion, not that good. I'm only speaking for the vegan joy one. My friend got red velvet and said it was ok, but also wouldn't come back to get another one. All in all.
