My friend and I stopped into Sugarbowl around 8 pm on Friday. We ordered takeout. I ordered the Udon Noodles with chicken and she ordered the Pho Chay (tofu). She also ordered a bubble tea and I ordered a ginger ale (can). It took about 10-15 min for our order to be ready. The staff was super nice. The space itself is on the smaller side but they do have a few tables available for dine in. When we got home, our food was still very hot which was appreciated. I may have just found a new favorite dish! I wanted something healthy for lunch today and decided to check out Sugar Bowl's menu on Uber Eats. I've heard they have good pad Thai, so I've been wanting to try this place. Keeping it light, I went with the chicken and cabbage salad, as well as a order or steamed gyoza. The chicken and cabbage salad was EXCELLENT! It was pretty simple, but super flavorful. Shredded cabbage and chicken tossed with mint, cilantro, shallots, and peanuts, and served with a homemade Thai-style lime dressing. The Thai-lime dressing was sooo good, I honestly could have drank the remaining bit at the end of my salad. The peanuts and crunchy shallots added the perfect texture. My gyoza was fine. I probably should have gotten them fried for a little bit more flavor, but they were fine. The prices were reasonable also. $21 for lunch on Uber Eats is hard to come by, so I'm grateful. I will definitely be returning for that chicken cabbage salad again and to try the pad Thai. read more

With the weather getting warmer I figured I would ride the motorcycle to work; after finishing for the day I rode from Downtown Cleveland along the lake all the way to Mentor Headlands. On the way back I was trying to figure out what to have for dinner, I had a hankering for something Asian and then I remembered that I wanted to try Sugar Bowl. Located in a small storefront at Ridge Road and SOM Center Road in Willoughby it is easy to miss, but well worth your time to find. Inside is a mainly takeout shop with 2 small tables and a window counter. The menu is compact, some appetizers, a number of Pho and other soups and some other Asian items. I picked the Shrimp Noodle Soup, simple and a great way to try how their food. Ordered and paid at the counter. I had just barely settled in when the food was ready for me. A large bowl of rice noodles, shrimp and broth with a bag on the side with bean sprouts, Asian Basil, jalapeno slices and a lime wedge. The meal was excellent; a heaping helping of tender rice noodles provided body, good sized perfectly cooked shrimp were the main course and the heavenly broth brought it all together. With the side of vegetables, sirancha sauce and hoison sauce you can modify the dish to your personal taste. The highlight of the meal was the broth, light and delicately balanced it just kept getting better. Sugar Bowl was excellent food, they were doing a lot of takeout while I was there. I had the Pad Thai. The first thing that I noticed was that there wasn't any sauce. Maybe the noodles absorbed it because the flavor of the noodles was pretty good. I just wanted a bit of sauce because the chicken pieces, (that I had to pay extra for, by the way), were dry and lacked flavor. The four shrimp, that was also extra, were okay. They were a nice size but didn't have much seasoning. I'd say the pad Thai wasn't great, but it wasn't horrible either. The noodles were the best part. I also had a bag of chicken skins. Yummy! Their lotus cookie was very pretty but looked better than it tasted. It had a delicately crumbly texture and tasted like a mildly sweet funnel cake, but I couldn't stop eating it. I think it was the texture that appealed to me. The very best thing that I bought that day were the macaroons. One was passion fruit flavored and the other was pink lemonade. OMG!! They were delicious. I will go back when I'm in the area so that I can try all of their flavors. In fact, I will go back because while the pad Thai wasn't great, I will give their menu another chance because anyone can have a bad day. I just won't get the pad Thai. Another reason that I'll go back is because they have other attractive desserts that I'd like to try. I also appreciated that the cashier was very patient with me. I was having a tough time due to very little sleep the night before, running around to fulfill other obligations and I had not eaten all day. Being fuzzy brained, I had to ask the cashier to repeat everything she said to me. She did so without showing any frustration towards me and was pleasant during the entire transaction. Wanted to like this place but I really have to knock down a star automatically for not updating their website or having misleading information. No where on their website does it say that there's no dine-in option; seems like pretty important info to share! I would've loved to try their pho (which did look good) but I was on a date so takeout was not an option. We ended up going to the Cracker Barrel down the street, LOL! We tried this place on a whim one evening. The reviews seemed fairly mixed. It was close to home, had great prices & seemed to have decent menu items. We ordered pick up via Uber Eats - the company doesn't offer their own online ordering. I'm unsure if the prices are different but it's something that just works out easier for us. Anyways, I ordered the Pho Chay with tofu & vegetable broth and my husband ordered the Mango Salad with shrimp. Everything was ready for pick up quickly. I didn't get photos of the Mango Salad.. but it was super chunky & wasn't cohesive.. the dressing was tasty tho. He ended up enjoying it. My pho was thoughtfully packed to avoid spillage, my sprouts/toppings were placed in a separate bag to keep them cooler. The noodles were packaged in a plastic baggy separately, tofu was placed in the broth container. As I'm unpacking everything, I notice right away that my sprouts seemed really weak, they were browning pretty bad.. some parts much worst than others. I didn't eat them. I'm unsure why they were passed on to me in that condition. The broth was okay, kinda salty for my liking. The tofu was cut in triangles but were soft & simple. I think the noodles may have been sitting in the plastic baggy for quite some time. They were all stuck together in a block and it was very difficult to separate. OMG obsessed. This place could make me move to the east side! ( current Westsider). It's essentially a fast casual Vietnamese restaurant with boba!! Shut up!! They even have a non dairy option for the bubble tea. I got the fresh rolls with tofu, non dairy butterfly pea boba and the P2, pho with rare beef. It was $21 for all of that, you order at the counter and then sit and they bring the food out to you. Cute decor inside and they had fabulous macarons that are made daily! I've left a review before but feel pulled to leave another! I've seen some reviews say they don't give much protein, which I don't agree with. I always order the drunken noodles with tofu and every single time (probably over 15 times at this point) my bowls have been loaded with tofu, veggies and noodles. They're so consistent every time, I honestly think I eat here at least one a week! I've never gotten sick or anything, the ingredients taste very high quality. I also love the crispy rolls! The wrap is so crunchy and flavorful and I love the veggies inside. This is a great place to eat if you want filling, consistent and high quality food at a great price! read more

Guys, there are NO more cute macarons here... So can't expect hello kitty or any pandas. I will have to remove my pics from their first month of opening, as the lady who made them doesn't seem to contribute her talents here anymore. (Where are u now?) Last try of macarons was a bust at this price, no cute designs (basic) and kinda dry. Disappointment aside they still serve VERY good soups and have some good apps to pair your meal with. Four out of five stars for that. They have great pho. Now, Yelper Sasha bared some truths. I came in on this rainy day today and cheerily asked the person at the counter if she liked the Pad Thai or the drunken noodle dish better. She dryly told me that the drunken noodle is spicy and without taking a breath added, "Can you make up your mind?? We're closing soon." This curt convo happened in under two minutes. I thought, "Wait .. what?" Ok! Pad Thai please. Ah! They close in the middle of the day. The cause is clear. So check on the hours and make sure you aren't here when they don't want you around :) I promise you will have a better transaction than mine. I came in because the door was open... I'm so rude. The Pad Thai I got was on the bland side. I added a pic. I'm pretty sure it's because it was rushed. The dish tastes mostly like sugar and lime, lacking in complexity and balance. Not even remotely impressed. I went there on off peak hours and low and behold they had nothing. I managed to get some macaroons and a cupcake, and both were stale. The macaroons were super pricey, no type of deal for buying multiple. Staff was very rushy, wanted me to get out of their space. NO type of friendly encounter. Their bubble tea menu is straight to the point which is great. The cupcake i got tasted like it was out of a box, too much fake sugar, hard icing. I had seen so many pictures of this place, and ill admit i went there in search of their hello kitty macaroons but it was a waste of a trip for me. What a great surprise this turned out to be! Willoughby needs more variety and the Sugar Bowl is a great addition to the city's dining options for Asian food. My girlfriend loves Vietnamese food, so when she saw that the restaurant was open, both of us were eager to try it out. It's a small place with only a few tables, but we were in the mood to stay home and watch a movie, so we ordered carry out. Both of us ordered Bánh mì sandwiches, and we decided to try the scallion pancakes, and the wrapped shrimp rolls. The bakery looked really fun, so we ordered some macarons as well. Our order was ready in about 10 minutes and by that time the place got busy. It was about 8:00 and about four couples had come in and a couple more people were seated at tables. The atmosphere is simple, bright, and cheery. There's a counter with bar seats that extends the length of the window front, and the small tables seat two. While you're waiting for you food, there is padded bench seating along one wall. It's a tight fit, but not claustrophobic. My car smelled so good during the ride home and we couldn't wait to tear into our dinner. The Bánh mì sandwiches were a little on the small side, but very flavorful. The cilantro and jalapeño combination made the chicken pop and the dressing was a sweet addition. We snacked on the crispy scallion pancakes, which were also very flavorful and came with a dark ginger-like dipping sauce. The rolls were fresh and crispy, though the light golden sauce they came with was quite pungent and not to our liking. The macarons were a delightful dessert, especially the watermelon flavored ones. They didn't taste artificial and had a little tartness to them. The emoji macarons were sweet and flavorful. We had ordered the panda cookies, but they got the order wrong, which we didn't discover until we got home. That was the only disappointment to this meal, but when I returned at a later time, the woman who took my order didn't charge me for two of the four macarons I ordered--wow, so kind! The sandwiches, rolls, and scallion pancakes were $22.00, which we thought was a decent value for a good meal like this. My return trip with my daughter was another great success, this time for the pho. Another to-go order that included the Pho Chay (tofu as the protein) and we opted for the chicken broth (vegetable broth is an option). It was very filling and quite flavorful with fresh jalapeño pepper slices, Thai basil, cilantro, bean sprouts, and thinly sliced scallions. Can't wait to return! read more

I tried Sugar Bowl for the first time recently and I'm a fan! I ordered the shrimp pad thai (very tasty) and my mom was impressed with her udon, which came with A TON of veggies and chicken. You can easily get two meals out of that udon. While their food is yummy, the most impressive thing on the Sugar Bowl menu by far are their macarons. Seriously, these are some of the best macarons I've ever had. I was so impressed with the variety of flavors, and how each flavor tasted exactly as advertised. (Cotton candy, for example, not only tasted like cotton candy but also had a crunchy cotton candy texture to the filling; it was wild!) I will note that despite how yummy the macarons were, like other reviewers I was disappointed to discover that Sugar Bowl was lacking in the cute character designs that they have all over their social media. When I visited only one character macaron was available (a very cute unicorn) and to get it you had to buy a gift set as it wasn't available for individual purchase. One other small disappointment to an otherwise fabulous meal: I thought the boba was kind of meh. I love bubble tea, but whatever tapioca pearls Sugar Bowl was using were too hard and chewy. It's cool that you can control the sweetness level of your drink, though! Small kerfluffles aside, Sugar Bowl makes some darn tasty food, and I would definitely order from here again in the future. read more

We have patronized this restaurant for over 3 years and loved it but yesterday, 7/10/22, we had a whole different, disappointing experience. We ordered 1 beef pho and 1 chicken pho with chicken broth with extra vegetables. The noodles were cut in tiny pieces and overwhelmed the scarcity of what is usually clear, flavorful, excellent beef broth or chicken broth. The beef in my beef pho was scarce and very tough. It was almost as though someone had scraped the bottom of the pot or gave us the previous days' leftovers. We have met the owner on several occasions and she prided herself on the quality of her food. I know she would have been very disappointed in this order. My new favorite restaurant! We've been here 3 times in the last 2 weeks and I can say I'm addicted! They have a great variety of bubble tea flavors, even different types of boba or jelly to put in the tea. We've been working our way through the menu and can honestly say everything has been tasty. My faves are the gyoza and the vegetable pho, I think it's P6 on the menu. I love the platter of fresh toppings they bring for the pho that allows you to really personalize your experience. Now let's talk desserts. BEST MACARONS I HAVE EVER HAD. Not only do they taste great, but they are ornately decorated as well (unicorns, brown bears, panda bears). Amazing. Outstanding service and food. The bubble tea is amazing and they have SO MANY SELECTIONS. My personal favorite is the lycee with the popping boba and the fried gyoza with the pho tai as my main dish. I love to add a little bit of siracha sauce to my pho just for a bit of extra spice. I also like their beef salad but that is a little on the pricey side for me (8.95$) so I only get it on occasion. They also have a nice selection of sweets like macaroons! This is the only place near my house that I can get bubble tea and I so love it. If I were to change one thing I would suggest they get new pads for the seats for the to go waiting area as they are dirty and flat but that isn't even worth knocking off a star because this place is just amazing. Went yesterday with my husband for lunch, I ordered Thai tea and boba which was really good considering I don't even like tapioca but it was my first time trying "bubble tea" I've had Thai tea before and it was good 4/5 it wasn't as sweet as others I've had. I wish it was served with the more traditional Peanut dipping sauce which I liked much better than the chili cucumber sauce they served it was very almost bitter but none the less a solid roll 4/5. It was decent a lot of flavor fresh hot and crisp chicken. 4/5. My husband ordered the Udon with beef and shrimp. Flavor was really good of the broth nice and beefy. We also had 3 macrons, Apple vanilla and cotton candy good flavors little pricey but was good. Total cost of lunch was $50.00 lol (also my husband ordered 2 orders of chicken wings all in all solid. I've gone back several times for my beloved bubble tea and some macrons... last few times I've gone I've noticed they never have more than 3-5 flavors of macrons very disappointing as this is what they advertise character macrons and a large assortment. My bubble tea has been inconsistent the last one didn't have enough cream and no ice it was still warm. Although they just brewed it I mean atleast put enough ice in to compensate.
