I recently had the pleasure of going to this beautiful jewel box for lunch. The service was quick, friendly and attentive. They bring each table a basket of flat bead and a tray of feta, butter, and olives. We got the Dolmeh for an appetizer which are stuffed grape leaves that are served hot. These pretty little packages just melt in your mouth. My boyfriend got the Shish Kabob, which were both juicy and perfectly seasoned huge pieces of beef. I got the Lamb Kabob which to my delight was amazing and fork tender. Both Kabobs were served with saffron rice. I also highly recommend getting the Persian tea with your meal to complete the experience. The lunch entree range between $12 - $15. I think next time I going to try 3 different appetizers combo for $14. With it beautiful decor, Sufi's would be a cozy place for a romantic dinner with an exotic flavor. Tonight was my first visit here. This place flew under my radar for the 3 years I lived in Atlanta, but I saw it while looking for Middle Eastern food tonight during a visit back. The crew was great - personable, mindful, and prompt. Dinner was ready quickly, but at the right pacing for someone with an appetizer. The hummus is at least tied for the best I've had in the states. Only a trip to Israel and Jordan yielded the creamier variant I prefer - though I can't say if Persian hummus is supposed to be that way. The main course with its side of rice was fairly large. It had good flavor, and the meat was tender. The atmosphere was very pleasant - great for a date night. At $15-25 a plate, it's not too expensive for what you get. It's easy to pass by and barely notice, but it's definitely worth a visit. read more

I am giving these guys two stars, not because of the food, but because of the horrible (and I mean HORRIBLE!) service. The food is actually quite good, which is why I was so disappointed that the service failed so miserably. The restaurant was not crowded (only 5 active tables) and there were at least 4 servers in the restaurant so there was adequate coverage. We ordered a couple of starters and a round of drinks. Starters came, and then then wait for water and drinks ensued. About 3/4 of the way through our starters, here came our drinks and water. Same thing happened with our main - we ordered and placed another order for a round of drinks, food came and about 50% into our meal, we had empty water glasses and no drinks. I got up and went and found our waiter (Zack) and told him we needed our drinks and water. I returned to the table, waited another 10 minutes, then went and found the manager. Now our food was cold, and we still didn't even have water. The manager brought our drinks, apologized, and gave us another waiter who was much better although we were almost finished at this point. I had the salmon kabob (delicious) and my fellow diners had chicken kabobs (also delicious). It is unfortunate how poor service can completely overshadow what could be a great meal. read more

Im a huge fan of Persian cuisine, and have had the most authentic stuff around; this place hit the spot when I cam for lunch. Great location on peachtree with free parking, although the parking is located on a slope similar to the one you're on when climbing to the top of Everest, but its cool, I dont mind a pre and post meal workout ;) Lets start with the atmosphere; its very elegant, tasteful and really puts you in a relaxed mood. The service was excellent, so no complaints there. The hummus and vegetable plate is great to start with. The rice and kebabs are extremely well prepared. The Soltani kebab was fantastic. Delighted to have found Sufi's. From the complimentary valet in the back to the live music that greets you when you walk through the doors, this is a great place. It's especially wonderful if you (a) have food restrictions (all the food, save the bread is gluten free and much of it is vegan and/or vegetarian) and (b) if you've spent significant time in the Middle East and lament the lack of good hummus anywhere in the States. We went on a Scoutmob. We split the falafel. It would not have been my first choice, but it's what my beloved wanted and I'm so glad we got it. It was beyond delicious. Best I've had in years. It came with two small sides, one of hummus (more on that later) and one of this spicy mouthful of flavor. Also standard with meals is pita (all for me as the beloved is free of the gluten. I was not complaining) and a plateful of walnuts, olives, feta, butter, basil, cucumber and other green things to eat. Really good. The Scoutmob allowed the house wine which was a okay. I had the shrimp kabob and the honey had the lamb. I scarfed all mine down. Honey will have hers for at least two more meals. Very generous, tasty portions. The hummus needs a paragraph all to itself. Y'all. It was so good. It was smooth and perfect, with just a touch of tahini, not too much, but enough to make it just right. I would love to be able to make it like that, but I just can't. A young, ever so innocent asked "is it as good as Sabra Hummus?" and I laughed and laughed. If you've only had pre-made hummus, you've never had hummus. And I make my own, but it's nowhere near this good. We bought extra for the week. I suspect it will be gone by the end of the day. It's worth a trip just for that. Why 4 stars and not 5? A couple of minor things. It's pretty crowded in there. It felt like we were on a double, and at times triple, date with the tables next to us. It was a cold night, we asked for the table farthest from the door, and we were placed far away in the corner and it was still cold. The set up on the lamb wasn't as presented on the menu--not a huge thing, but no lentils and raisins, although still delicious. Again, all minor stuff. Nothing that would keep us from coming back. The service was very good, especially from the folks who owned the place. I enjoyed talking spices with them (I asked one waitress what the spice was I was tasting and she said she couldn't say because it was a secret recipe. Let me just make sure and get this out there: As of last night (2/5/2011), they still did not have a liquor license and are limited to serving soft drinks and tea. My party mostly enjoyed their food; we started out with some Dormeh (grape leaves wrapped around some rice with herbs and spices)- it was great. Our entrees were fairly good. I think the best thing any of us got was the Shish Kebob. You get filet and vegetables and a heaping pile of rice. It has a great flavor and you get lots of food. The heaping pile of rice is bland as can be though. Sadly, the Soltani Kebab plate only comes with meat and rice, making for a very bland meal. Don't get me wrong; the meat was flavored fine and cooked to perfection, but it was two ten inch long strips of meat (one seasoned ground beef, one filet mignon) and a pile of unseasoned white rice. There wasn't really any sauce to speak of, either. It was just kind of ...meh. We also ordered the two specials. The Zereshk Polo with Chicken was some fairly dry chicken chunks that were well seasoned, paired with a great big pile of saffron basmati rice that had a bunch of barberries, almonds, and pistachios. It was good- the barberries are like a more flowery cranberry? It's the first time we tasted them and it actually made the rice very interesting; especially compared to the rice that came with the kebabs. The other special was the Baghala Polo. It tasted great; there wasn't much meat though, and it came with a side of plain basmati rice. We split a nice little piece of baklava for desert. I thought this place was really overpriced, but Persian restaurants are rare in Atlanta. The food was very good, flavorful, and mildly spicy. The Sufi's special ($8) was my favorite; it's mildly spicy eggplant sauteed with onion, garlic, chickpeas, and tomato sauce. This appetizer was rather heavy and rich, so I split the zereshk polo with chicken specialty dish ($18) with my boyfriend. The portion of the specialty dish is huge, and the server conveniently served our entree on two plates (because she knew of our intention to share it). As a side note, the kabobs at Sufi's range in price from $16 to $28. The ambience inside the restaurant is dark, mysterious, and rustic. A nice persian restaurant right along Peachtree Road. This place used to be BYOB, but now they have a full bar. They do allow you to bring bottles of wine but there's a $20 corkage fee. Boo. The service was very good. The waitress for our table checked up on us relatively frequently, and was very nice. Also, she was very pretty. Just sayin'. The entrees are anywhere from 17-30 dollars, averaging at about 22 dollars per plate. However, they do give you a LOT of food. I got the Lamb Shank for $22, which came with a huge plate of rice and a gigantic lamb shank. Luckily, I was hungry. The appetizers are excellent too. The hummus is very delicious, and the bread it comes out with is nice, hot, and fresh. This place can get pretty pricey, but the quantity and quality are worth it. If they still did BYOB, I would love this place, but I guess they got wise... Ambiance is nice as well. Dimly lit (not too dim), and noise level isn't too loud, which is a huge plus. read more

Just going to get right to it. Hummus: I have yet to find a hummus this good. It is served with warm naan. Great texture and flavor. Mast Spinach: first time trying it. Once you get past the idea of cooked spinach and yogurt it is darn good. Creamy and thick, it also goes great with the naan. Barg Kabob: my main course. VERY tender tenderloin that melt in your mouth. No knife needed to cut through. Also, The rice is fluffy and airy. I had the "regular" rice. My cousin had the lamb kabob. Tried a small portion of it. I am visiting Atlanta on business and was hungry. Happened to drive by and see "Persian food". Thought it would be a mom and pop place with pretty predictable food. But no! What a treat! Nice ambiance. Live classical Persian santur music. And the food was SO GREAT! I had the quail, yoghurt and cucumber and the polo rice with orange peel. Everything was so delicious. Went here for my Birthday lunch and had an excellent meal! The complimentary came with their home made pitas with a plate of herbs, goat cheese, butter, olives and radishes. I may have unconsciously licked the plate and probably ate a whole basket of pitas by myself... but I digress. I had the Soltani Kabob, $18 and it comes with marinated strips of tenderloin and lean ground beef. I opted for the Zereshk Polo rice rather than the fluffy saffron rice. The rice contains barberries, almonds and pistachios in which I love not only for the flavor but the texture. The barberries gives it a sweet and tart while the almond gives it this aromatic texture... I didn't get a whole lot of pistachio taste. If I had to choose between the two, I think I would go for the lean ground beef again. I think it has much more flavor than the tenderloin. The meal ends with Baklava, complimentary of the house. It was fairly light... wasn't so sticky. The interior was fairly nice and cozy. I'll definitely come back! read more

Came in on Valentine's day with the bf. We had wanted to go to Rumi's Kitchen, but they had an expensive prix fix menu that day , so we decided to try Sufi's due to the great yelp reviews. Unfortunately, this place is no substitute for Rumi's Kitchen. First, our seating was pretty bad. I was on the aisle seat, but there was so little aisle space that i had to pull myself all the way to the table which made it very uncomfortable for eating or sitting. It was the same thing for my bf, but he was not sitting on the aisle; the restaurant did not give enough space between our table and the table behind my bf. There was the complimentary pita bread and plate of herbs/spread. It was nice that the bread was still warm. We ordered the Sufi's special for appetizer. We have eaten spicy food before, but this dish was too spicy for us to handle. We had to eat this with the basil and mint leaves provided from the complimentary herb plate. We were not used to Persian food being this spicy. Then we ordered the Lamb Kabob. The rice was good, not very flavorful though. The lamb meat, though, had a very strange texture. The surface was nicely roasted, but the inside was "sticky" in texture, almost like liver. I could use my spoon to scrape off the meat, which is weird. The gamey taste is quite apparent too. We didn't finish the lamb. We asked the waiter if the lamb was ground lamb instead, but he said it was not, it's supposed to have a chewy texture, but we told him that there was no chewy texture to it at all. But he could only apologize to us for not enjoying the food. We've had better lamb kabobs at Rumi's kitchen. The ambiance is nice and the waiter service was nice too. They refilled our water regularly. Parking is valet, which was noticeably understaffed that night. Edit: After receiving a comment on my review, I apologize to Sufi's chefs if i hurt their feelings with my review due to some ignorance of my comments. I dont eat a lot of lamb, but when I do, the gamey taste is hardly noticeable and i still enjoyed it. So when i tasted a stronger gamey taste at Sufi's, I was not familiar with it, but which may be a good thing for some people as I just became aware that people eat lamb for the gamey taste. My coworkers raved about Sufi's, so being a new fan of Persian food, I decided to pay Sufi's a visit while driving past Atlanta. My girlfriend and I arrived in the late afternoon (around 4-5 PM) on the Friday before Christmas, and the place was pretty much empty. Maybe one other table. Thus, service was quick. We ordered the falafel and shish kabob to share. Classic, boring order, but all delicious as expected. Before the falafel, the server brought out a bucket of pita bread with a plate of butter, greens, olives, cheese, and walnuts (standard for a Persian restaurant). Probably one of my favorite parts of dining at a Persian restaurant. I could honestly fill up only on bread. The falafel was decent. A bit grainy? It fell apart very easily. Not the best that I've had, but still a good appetizer choice. It came with a side of hummus and tahini sauce, both of which went well with the pita bread. The shish kabob. The main event. Tender and flavorful meat, a variety of vegetables, and a buttload of rice. I honestly don't know how anyone finishes the rice on their own... Every part of the dish was delicious, but I was a little disappointed on the amount of meat. An acceptable amount, but less than I expected. I would probably try another dish next time. Overall, a good Persian restaurant, but Rumi's (Sandy Springs) has it beat... at least on the bread, falafel, and shish kabob. As long as it wasn't rush hour, I'd drive over to Rumi's from midtown. However, Sufi's wins parking. There's a ton of free parking behind the restaurant (shared with R. Thomas Deluxe Grill), which is great if you hate having to valet. I must admit that I was a bit... uninformed... about Persian food until I got to Sufi's. Initially, I imagined it to be dry, boring, and saturated with spices. But I was pleasantly surprised by the freshness and variety it offered! The kabob roll was filled with fresh veggies, parsley, and a tangy/tart dressing that really brought together the juicy beef. Definitely better than any Greek gyro ive ever had. It came with a side salad, which also came with a similar, refreshing dressing. The appetizer (that comes with the meal) was very curious - consisting of herbs, cheese, nuts, and vegetables. I had no idea what to do with it, but the waitress was very kind and explained what each were and how to enjoy them. I'm not used to munching on herbs directly... so this may take some time getting used to... But when I look back at it, after finishing my lunch, I realized that the appetizer plate set up the palate for the Persian meal - the herbs, veggies, and the cheese. Its interesting that you enjoy the parts individually, then enjoy them together in the main part of the meal. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends. The food was great and a refreshing experience at that to learn more about Persian food. Further, service was quick and great, albeit that I went there early for lunch and there weren't many people there yet. I gave it four starts, only because I haven't really tried more of their menu to give them my coveted five star rating for a thorough review of the place. Just go and try checkm out! Treat yourself to a healthy and delicious meal at Sufi's. Yesterday was my husband and my first time eating here, but it will not be our last. We started with a (delicious!!) appetizer of hummus, and enjoyed that with the HOMEMADE pita bread they serve each table along with fresh herbs (mint, basil, cilantro), olives and feta. The pita is delicious, and the hummus is among the best I have ever had. The appetizer is generous; we ate a lot and had some left over. For dinner, I had the chicken kabobs and subbed in the adas polo rice, a very good move. This rice has pistachios and raisins. My husband had the tenderloin kabob with their regular balsamic rice (he said I outordered him on the rice), and subbed a salad (cucumber, tomato and onion) for half of the rice. We had baklava for dessert. It was different than the Greek walnut baklava we have had at other Mediterranean restaurants, and I preferred this kind. It is a pistachio baklava that tastes more like a shortbread than a honey-filled, cinnamon baklava. To drink, I enjoyed the hot Persian tea with free refills. So good. Having to hike up to Sandy Springs for solid persian food was getting old. Sadly for Mirage and Rumi's, Sufi's has been discovered. Persian dining is not as famous as some of their Mediterranean brothers for rock 'em sock 'em appetizers (or mez) that will blanket your table from coast to coast. In Persian cuisine, its all about the kebobs. There is one must have appetizer here though, and that is the Kashk Bademjan. Just a jaw dropping juggernaut of roasted eggplant, mint, kashk and caramelized onions. Also if you are feeling ambitious, give the stuffed grape leaves a try, they will be different than any dolmeh you've had before. A very aggresive mixture of stuffing morph these innocent morsels into pockets of highly combustible flavor. Follow your heart on the kebobs, you really cannot go wrong. The salmon kebob is delightful, and paired with their fava been and dill laced rice, you'll be putting mouthfuls of heaven in your mouth one savory bite at a time. Sufi's has secured its spot in my dining rotation, and the excellent service and gentle warm indoor atmosphere have helped win me over. They do have an outdoor patio, but it feels more like an aviary out there with all of neighboring restaurant R.Thomas's squawking cacophonous caged birds. Back home in Atlanta and decided to come to Sufi's for Mother's Day brunch. Now this is somewhere I would have not picked on my own, just because I am unfamiliar with Persian cuisine. I have to say I am VERY glad this was the spot chosen. For starters the warm Pita bread was delicious. I chose the salmon kabob with rice and it was FANTASTIC. The seasoning was perfect and rice was outstanding. The service is wonderful. Staff is very attentive and friendly. Parking is pretty easy for being in this location. I should preface this review with the fact that I am not a huge fan of persian food but my S.O. loves it. Last night she was able to talk me in to it with the help of a ScoutMob deal. The hummus and pita bread were great - the pita was soft on the inside and crispy on the outside and the hummus was very tasty though slightly thinner than I prefer. For our mains she had the chicken kabob which was very flavorful (especially for grilled chicken) and I had the Soltani Kabob. The Soltani was very good and a very generous portion (as I would expect for greater than $20). The rice was cooked perfectly though pretty bland even with the slight saffron drizzle. According to her this was on par with Rumi's but with a better patio and more laid back ambiance. read more

Excellent! I went to Sufis for lunch. Was seated and greeted promptly. We ordered Hummus and sweet tea. The sweet tea was refreshing and sweet and didn't taste over brewed like most tea in Atlanta. The hummus came out and I couldn't have been happier. The hummus was creamy, served with warm pita chips, and a side plate of olives butter and feta. It was delicious the hummus was creamy & the sides complimented it well. We ordered a shish plate and a chicken shish plate. The server assistant was consistent in bring our refills and the server made sure to check in with us often. The food came out and the meat was delicious, rice was the perfect temperature. Love this place for ITP Persian! Waitstaff is super friendly and helpful. Their Persian rice types are amazing - went off my low carb for this! The Chilean sea bass is not on the menu but is out of this world delicious- perfectly cooked. Any of the kebabs are good but the koobideh chicken kebabs are so tasty/ also for those trying to cut back on carbs, they will give you 1/2 rice and 1/2 salad of your choice... or no rice and a salad instead... plenty of parking behind the restaurant - but be careful if you have anyone wearing heels - it's steep back there in the parking lot. read more

Mirza ghasemi was amazing (first time trying, but I'm persian- so high expectations) Chicken cooked perfectly and seasoned deliciously. Rice was delicious. Service was excellent. I ordered lamb kabobs, which were good, but nothing to make me fall off the chair. The staff was extemely fun and friendly and I do not regret coming here. I took outdoor table and was served complimentary appetizers- nan bread with olives, butter, some lettuce. I ordered beef koobideh kabobs for dinner. It comes in 2 skewers and with generous portion of basmati rice. The food was delicious and great quality. I was too full that I couldn't finish all. The kabobs are juicy and well cooked. Basmati rice is yummy. It compliments well with the kabobs. The food is pricey though, around $17. I will return but preferably for special occasions. read more

I went to Sufi's for the first time the other night with a friend on a whim (we were already in the area to pick up the mail for another friend out of the country), and it turned out to be a pretty good experience. When I first walked in to see if we could get a table, the place looked pretty crowded for a Wednesday night, but the hostess quickly assured me they had room. It's got a really cool ambiance - both inside and out. White table cloths, plushly upholstered booths, and a distinctly middle Eastern flavor. On top of that - the patio outside on the front of the restaurant along Peachtree Rd. looks really inviting - it's shielded from the street directly by lots of large potted plants and vegetation, so it's not too exposed. Once we sat down a waitress came over to take our drink and appetizer orders. When I inquired about a wine menu she told us they don't have a liquor license (apparently this is more common than you might imagine for middle eastern restaurants) but we could run across the street and grab a bottle; people pulled this maneuver all the time. Mmm... that's ok - I'll stick with water tonight. Note to self: BYOB next time. So as we looked over the menu and chose some items to share, and when she came back, she brought a complimentary warm basket of fresh baked pita and a plate loaded with feta cheese, kalamata olives, walnuts, butter, radishes and some green herbs. We chose the dolmeh as an appetizer and then decided to share an order of veggie stew and the chicken soltani kebabs. The dolmeh that came out were very good - piping hot and filled with lots of raisins, ground beef, herbs and rice. They were also sitting in a creamy white sauce which was excellent to dip them back into for extra flavor. At some points, I even wrapped my bites of dolmeh in the pita bread - great combo. Our entrees came out at the same time - the veggie stew kindly separated from the rice to keep it from getting soggy and the kebabs artfully set to one side of the rice with a roasted tomato resting on top. I have to say that the veggie stew was underwhelming - it was quite spicy (which is fine by me), but the sauce seemed more like tomato soup with chickpeas and zucchini mixed in. The chicken kebabs were very large and tasty, on the other hand. Really good seasoning and cooked to perfection. And along with the rice it was very good. Overall, it was a fine evening, but I'll know for the next time that the stews aren't really worth it - just go for the apps and kebabs. And remember to bring your own alcohol if you want to get your drink on. read more

Went here for lunch today and it was quite tasty. We tried a few things on the menu and it was all pretty tasty! Has the lunch chicken wrap and tenderloin wrap which was a good portion size. Salad is "different" but I did enjoy it. The friendly staff brings out a bunch of bread and herbs for you to start so don't fill up too early. I also couldn't count the number of times they came by to fill up my water glass. Super impressed! Last thing we ordered was the lamb from the kabob menu. It was delicous. 3 bone in chops with rice and a grilled tomato. Yumm. So flavorful. Last but not least. Our waitress brought out some super secret hot sauce that was off the chain! This place has the best hummus I've ever had. The bread served with the hummus is awesome as well, and everything is freshly made! I highly recommend this place if you like Middle Eastern food. I can't say if this is authentic or not but it is very tasty. I highly recommend the hummus, roasted eggplants, vegetable stew, and the chicken barg kabob. The chicken barg kabob is one of the most juicy, delicious pieces of chicken breast you'll ever taste. It's served with a healthy portion of rice with melted butter. Rarely do I like a (relatively-expensive) place enough to eat there twice. But I did. Rarely does service factor much into my review. But it did. Never have I dropped a review from 5 stars to 1. But I am. First, it took eons for a server to greet us. When he did, his excuse was that he hadn't been told his table had been sat. Possible, but the restaurant wasn't that crowded, and we sat for over 10 minutes. Furthermore, after such a long time, you'd think he'd bring the little complimentary plate of snacks IMMEDIATELY. We didn't get it until probably 10-15 minutes later, well after our cocktails came out. The cocktails were another problem. My friend's mojito first came out very limey, and we sent it back for another. The second drink came out absolutely undrinkable, but we didn't have the balls to send it back again. So it sat on the table FULL till the end of the meal, and our server never said a word about it. Needless to say, it should have been removed from the check. The food was fine, but the abysmal service made my return experience wholly unpleasant. read more

Nuts and bolts: My visit was prompted by reading about the top 100 things to eat in Atlanta. Saw a voucher online for the restaurant and snatched it up. Order: 3 appetizers- the dolmeh (that was listed on the top 100 list), the hummus, and the shirazi salad. One entree shared between me and the boyfriend- shish kabobs. Pros: The meat in the shish kabobs was tender. There was plenty of rice. The hummus was utterly amazing. I loved the nice warm flatbread to go along with it. Cons: Well, to start...we had to wait forever for our waitress to show up. After about 15 mins, we asked a waiter/host to see what was going on. When the table next to us (who arrived 10 min after us) got served by their waitress first, we were pretty upset about the wait. The dolmeh was just terrible- it as sickening sweet. They give you four pieces. My b/f had one, I had one, and I tried to force myself to eat another just so we didn't waste it. But I couldn't finish it. Bleh. The shirazi salad was bland. The steak was bland. The ratio of vegetables to meat was off- too many vegetables for the amount of meat. Neutral: They valet parking only. You can park on nearby streets for free if you are willing to walk. Take home message: It's not on our list to revisit, but if I am having a hummus craving, I just may return! read more
