I have play d all over God's Green Earth and at at more truck stops, fast food locations, and sit-down restaurants than I could possibly count. When you're on the road with a working band, drive-thru's and truck stops are literally all you eat. So believe me -- I've eaten at every burger joint from Seattle to Miami. The WENDY's in Lake Placid, FL is the worst burger location I have personally ever eaten at. We went thru the drive-thru. They got the order right. Didn't matter. Horribly made. The toppings were everywhere,,and in inconsistent amounts. It's as tho they physically THREW the stuff on the burgers. Buns so stale they were actually spongy / bouncy to the touch. The tomatos were sliced dime-thin, and they were white with no red color at all. They were dry and a little like beach sand for texture. The burgers must have been made prior to us ordering because they were bone dry and room temperature. The lettuce was completely wilted and browning, the pickles were thrown to one side, and the whole thing was buried in ketchup. Even the Frosty was sub-par, as it was funny, think and had been spoiled all down the side of the cup. The french fries were way too dark, so they obviously hadn't changed out the deep fryer oil for hours. If we hadn't already been across the highway and back otr we would've complained. As it was we wound up barely eating anything, and stopped at the CULVER'S in Sebring, which I highly recommend. They were spot-on perfect CT and ev n gave our German Shepherd, Lady a bunch of love and petting and a free burger patty and small "Pup Cup" of vanilla ice cream. But we shouldn't have had to eat TWICE to get our supper. This has as our second time at this WENDY'S location, and baste oth experiences wer terrible. We went back to see if maybe that first one was just a bad day for them. Nope. It was terrible again. So that'll be it for us. The Lake Placid, FL WENDY'S location is 0-for-2. My advice is to go to the Mickey D's. The Burger King in town is God-awful too, and Taco Bell is not much better. But the McD's is good, friendly, and consistent. Don't waste your time or money here. After years of devouring hundreds of cheesesteaks from dozens of different shops all over the country, I am proud to announce that I have been awarded the coveted CCC designation. That's right, I am now A Certified Cheesesteak Connoisseur! What's a CCC you ask? We sneak into sandwich shops without announcing ourselves and deliver unbiased cheesesteak reviews on Yelp! That was my assignment today at this location. Of course, I was in disguise. Arriving- From US Route 27, just look for the Lowes signage. They kind of share a parking lot. Parking is usually easy peasy. The App- It's solid and I have two comments. 1.- It doesn't have a "Dine In" option which drives me crazy as other chains have it. 2.- The "Customization" section allows for special requests, which is a much-appreciated feature! Wi-Fi- There doesn't appear to be customer Wi-Fi, but Xfinity folks will be happy that there is a hotspot nearby. Ambience- They have a couple of tiny tables outside which are basically in The Lowe's parking lot with tiny umbrellas. I'd rather have a root canal with no pain meds that eat outside here! Inside there is a line of 2-tops against a wall and you'll find yourself uncomfortably close to the folks waiting in line to order. It's clear that this is a mostly take-out place. As expected, everything is spotless. Customer Service- I've been here many times, and everyone has always been extremely friendly and courteous, so 5 stars. Cheesesteaks- They have tons of different hot & cold subs, but this is a BEEF cheesesteak only review. I used the app and there are four varieties available all with the standard 8" at about $11. You can customize quite a bit but if you go into the shop to order you can do just about anything! For this visit I ordered the Big Kahuna. Beef and extra white American cheese (not Cheez Whiz) along with red & green peppers, onions, mushrooms and jalapenos. It was ready on the pickup shelf when I arrived. OMG, see my picture! This was a monstrous, 5-napkin sammich. Hard to eat because of the amount of fillings but true cheesesteak connoisseurs will drool! If you are a cheesesteak aficionado, the elephant in the room is the roll. This is not an Amoroso roll (Philly readers know what I mean), but it is very good and baked fresh several times a day. The beef was grilled nicely, juicy & tasty, with no fatty chewy pieces and the taste and amount of cheese was spot on. The veges were fresh and an appropriate amount. This was definitely a top-shelf sandwich. I had a food orgasm with every bite! Value- This is one of the most satisfying cheesesteaks you can get from a chain shop! Sometimes you can get a bigger sandwich from a private shop, but the quality and customer service can be hit or miss. Conclusion- If you desire to be a CCC like me, tough, I made it up! This is at least a 4.0-star cheesesteak and probably 4.5. If you're not in Philly, it's among the best you can devour! When you add in the service, cleanliness and value, I'm going 5 stars for the beef cheesesteaks!

This is an update focusing on my fine lunch so read my original review for more detail on this excellent chain. Customer service- I blew in intent on lunch to-go and moseyed up to the counter with no wait. The always smiling young lady efficiently processed my order and it was ready in about 5 minutes. Food- My go-to order here is usually three tenders with fries and slaw for $14 and change. A biscuit or role comes along for the ride. I brought this bad boy home and plated it up. That was supposed to be three tenders, but I think they went a little overboard! Now you see why I ordered the slaw. See my picture. As my cholesterol spiked in anticipation, a loosened my belt in preparation and attacked. Taste- OMG! Tender, juicy, white meat tenders with perfectly crunchy batter. Very good fries but they are consistently undercooked for about a minute. Fresh, crunchy slaw. It was several hours until I could write this update because I was comatose in my recliner! An easy 4 stars and probably 4.5. The minimal parking can get a little crazy and the fries need a little more time but that doesn't stop their legions of fans from stopping by including me.
