They literally come up to your car, take your order, and bring your food back. I loved the old school feel. It took no time for my food to arrive-about 7 minutes. I got a burger, onion rings, and a hotdog all the way. The onion rings were fresh, hot, and had the perfect amount of salt. The burger was well seasoned, had that crisp, grilled taste. The hotdog was good as well-chili was perfect. It was such a nostalgic feel and definitely a must visit for the experience.

With two kids in tow, we were worried there would be a wait, but thanks to summer break, we were seated quickly and all of the staff were super friendly and attentive. Holy moly, the eggs. I have no idea what magic they put into them (maybe butter?), but they were sooo flavorful! My kids (who are moderately picky, especially with their scrambled eggs) scarfed them down and asked me for a few bites of my omelette. The kids cleaned their plates (pancakes, egg, bacon) and so did my husband and I! I got a simple meat & cheese omelette (w sausage) and expected a pretty standard omelette - but those eggs, man. Those eggs! Hubs got western omelette with ham, and same. Go get Joe's eggs!! You won't regret it. Added bonus points for a deliciously fluffy biscuit and hot, yummy coffee!

Our plan was to grab a late…read morebreakfast, do a little shopping, tour Blacksburg to witness how much it's changed, then attend the basketball game. Joe's was a nice start to the day as they provide good food and good service within a tiny, but capable venue. Joe's is located near the Main St-College Ave intersection, next door to Hokie Hair (mind you, College Ave is no longer open to traffic, it's now a huge sidewalk). They are small and, since all the buildings along this portion of Main St are older, its interior is dark and dated. A makeover could be in order, but its old school look and feel lends itself to the friendly small town vibe I've become accustomed to in Blacksburg. This diner was nearly full, so we sat at the bar. There were three servers on the floor - all students. All three were friendly, helpful and loquacious (we talked about college in general, how to take advantage of a college's resources, and even discussed desired future outcomes of their educations - plenty of interesting topics for a chill Sunday morning). Neal had the t-bone steak and eggs, while I ordered a dish known as Joetaters (diced potatoes, cheddar jack, eggs, onions, peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms; and a choice of either bacon, ham, country ham, or sausage). Joetaters also came with a choice of white or wheat toast (or you can choose a biscuit for an extra $1.50). I chose wheat toast, and the entree was excellent. Neal ate his entire meal, so it's safe to say we enjoyed our food. Joe's is an excellent diner with awesome food and service. I can't wait to dine there again when I return. Thank you, Joe's Diner! I hate to leave a bad review for this place, which is like an old friend to me now, but as it turns…read moreout some old friends make bad chicken sandwiches. I fondly remember coming here freshman year, 5 times a week, ordering a spicy chicken with no pickles, fries and a drink, and then walking over to Owens so that I could actually find a place to sit. But now, 3 years later, senior year, I have to be honest, this place really isn't good. I guess this is how Brutus felt when he left a bad Yelp review about Julius ceasar. (I think that's what happened but I dropped intro to classics after the first week) Obviously everyone knows this is not as good as a real chick fil a, no matter how much we might pretend it is, much like everyone knows tech's football team is not as good as an actual football school's. But today's experience eating here let me down more than last season did. The sandwich was mushy and dry, the fries were flaccid and oily, and even the Coke tasted like water from the duck pond. Right now I'm questioning what I was doing standing in line 25 minutes every day freshman year to eat here for lunch. While I can't really recommend that you eat here, I can recommend something to eat here, an unexpected combo that not many people go for. What you want to do is get a chick fil a sandwich and dunk it into the marinara sauce that comes with the Pizza Hut bread sticks, for a chicken parm that tastes better than that crap they overhype at Owens. Man I can't believe I just wrote a whole review betraying one of my favorite dining halls on campus. But maybe it was really them who betrayed me. Et tu, chick fil a? (I'm pretty sure that's Latin?)

My only complaint is that it is more expensive than regular locations being that it is on a college campus. If you don't have the meal plan you'll be paying inflated prices. The person making my food was not wearing gloves, which is not sanitary, and I did not observe him washing his hands before preparing it. So far I have tried the lamb over rice, spicy pasta, calzones and the pizza. The pizza and the calzone are fine, but I've gotten sick from the pasta both of the times that I have tried it, and the small amount of shrimp for the massive portion of pasta made me a little sad. The lamb over rice was alright, but I found the portion of meat was pretty small, which was the best part of the dish, and the lettuce was wilted and some pieces were brown and slimy so I had to pick them out. All their food is ridiculously greasy, which is great if that's what you are looking for, but I personally prefer my food with a little less oil. There is very limited seating and is very cramped, so be prepared to take it home and eat it. The wait times can be a little long, so definitely order online beforehand.
