So bad... we waited for over 1 hour for food, finally get food couldn't even eat it without about getting sick because it was SO HOT, outside was cooler than inside-it's so hot inside that the gum balls in the machine had melted their colors off. Then when check came, we tried to pay up front and they denied us and sent back to the table - waited another 20 mins for waiter to come get our card and then disappeared for 15 mins we had to go find the waiter to get our card back (fishy). We were so over it and the experience- food wasn't terrible but service absolutely sucked. Do not recommend if you don't wanna wait over 1h30ms. The food is awful. I ate a burger and my stomach has been hurting for a week. I think I got stomach poisoning. The food grade tasted equal to a prison. The management is rude and abrupt and has no knowledge of how to run a kitchen. The servers whine all the time and are entirely way to slow at bringing out food. My burger was as well cold. I run for Doordash and I came back for the monster cheesecake for myself. The young man at the front was wonderful and even though there was a bit of a wait, I didn't mind. I'm not sure if they are understaffed, but the Cburg location messed up multiple orders and the Radford location had a line of 6 people with nobody at the front. After about 5 minutes I called and let them know there was a line. A customer there was also waiting for help as the sauces she ordered were incorrect. So let's start with the service. Our waitress was "new" according to what she told us but you would never have guessed. She was attentive and had no issues with our orders. She was also quick since we were in a bit of a rush. The place wasn't very crowded but seemed to be clean. The both we had was in a quiet corner allowing us to chat. We both had sandwiches. Macados - Radford has been going downhill for some time now, but visit this past week (9/5/25) probably marked the end for us. Restaurant itself is filthy - floorss, wall, restrooms (health inspectors should take a look), plates/glasses served dirty, and to top it off, the food is mediocre at best. The service was horrible. We waited nearly 30 mins for 3 sandwiches and a kids' hotdog and fries. The sandwiches were disgusting. My husband's Reuben was missing the saurkraut, and my sandwich bread was burnt. My son's hotdog was cold, and his fries were burnt. The whole section we sat in was very dark in the middle of the day. Our server had a very nonchalant attitude like she could have cared less about us. There was one other table in her section that actually had other people sitting at it. I ask to be adjusted for the amount I ordered. I was told my order was in fact 25 pieces and the manager Silas made it himself and the waitress asked if I'd like to speak to him I did. Went there for lunch, nice day and we wanted to sit on the patio, no problem, a nice server sat us and told us the bartender will be there shortly. Not busy at all. After a short wait she came and got our drink orders. The place was very dirty! The table was clean but everything else looked like it hadn't been cleaned since last season, dirt, cobwebs, bird crap and the floor hasn't been swept. I ordered a "The Ragtime " a rare roast beef sandwich. It was well done, no pink at all or it would have been better. We use to love Macado's. We were there twice a week for three years. We have slowly been going back after the pandemic. The service is terrible. It's not the servers fault, they are always short handed. Always. We were there Friday and it took almost two hours for our sandwiches to come. They were nothing special, ordered straight from the menu. I asked the waitress for the Manager to come out and talk to me and he didn't even do that. I asked her if she spoke to him and she did. Can you believe that is how this place is being run? No wonder it sucks. We won't go back. We can spend our $150 somewhere else. read more

I have been ordering Hindenburg from this restaurant for the last 30 years. I just got one and it by far is the worst sandwich I have had in 30 years. The meat was sliced thick and it was tough to eat. Usually the meat is shaved and for it to cost $45 this was not ok. It may be the last Hindenburg I am going to have. I ordered the 'Custer's Last Stand' - which was one if my favorites back in the day (Chicken Salad, Melted Munster Cheese, Bacon and Mayo and tomato on a toasted Croissant. It was pretty good- I wish I had gotten the Grilled Chicken Ranch Taco.... Because -- read on.... I also ordered the Diablo Quesadilla (Grilled Chicken, Bacon, 3 Cheeses, and pico de gallo- except sans Pico), for my daughter's friend who, unfortunately, wasn't able to join me for lunch today due to not feeling very well). It looked really good and I had to cut off a little piece to just try it- ;). It tasted DELICIOUS- I will DEFINITELY get something Mexicanish here next visit! They did add the Pico on the side and it was SUPER yummy!! I was in town for my daughter's college orientation at Radford University. Lucky me, a friend of mine, who is a graduate of Radford was in town, too, since her son will also be attending Radford. She and I attended sessions together, but there are only so many PowerPoint presentations you can watch, so we decided to grab dinner instead of more sessions. It's clear this place is an institution in the area. It has a kind of patina of a well-loved local establishment. The decor is a little too dark for my taste, but it is cute, with memorabilia on the walls. The weather was good, so we decided to sit outside. They must've had a busy lunch crowd because every table had dishes still on them. A couple of tables were taken, so we sat on a patio set until one of the servers cleaned the table closest to us. Sandwiches seem to be the thing here, and they have a ton of them. They also have a decent beer list, which makes sense since Virginia is for beer lovers. We each ordered a beer and the ordered a couple of sandwiches to share...a French dip and muffuletta. The French dip was pretty good, although the au jus was just French onion soup. The muffuletta was just okay...don't think I'd order it again. My daughter and her future roommate joined us and ordered the quesadilla and chicken Caesar salad. The quesadilla was ginormous! My daughter said it was really good. We'll be in Radford a lot over the next four years, so I'm sure we will be eating here again. read more

Macado's in Radford gets five stars, love this place!! This was my second visit to this location and both times we had excellent service and the food is delicious!! We were told that the restaurant only had two servers at the time but we couldn't tell; pleasant server (just ask that long hair be tied back next time or wear headband, hands should never touch our hair or face when working with food), hot food, and they even gave a complimentary dessert and sung happy birthday to my son and dad. Peach Sangria is great, the bang bang cheese burger quesadilla is delicious, love the homemade chips and onion dip, and of course wings are always great. And they make cinnamon rolls there; smelled amazing but will have to try that next time. read more

Worst service of all time. Sat there for a good 15-20 minutes without even being approached. After a trip to the front someone came for our drinks. That's the only positive we did get a drink at least. 1 hour 15 minutes later at a sandwich shop that wasn't busy still no food. Dirty tables everywhere, servers up front doing nothing. Abysmal and I worked there 20 years ago. Management needs to be retrained or something. If there was a negative star rating I'd give it that. Family stopped by the restaurant after moving our youngest in to her apartment. Hopefully, the last move! The wait to be seated was going to be "at least 20 minutes." Although the restaurant was not busy, it has become more and more common just about everywhere that in order to provide good service, the restaurants only sit enough diners that the limited staff can take care of. I wonder where all these workers have gone since the pandemic but it is what it is. We decided to sit at the bar while we waited. After about 5 minutes, the bartender finally shows up and instead of asking what we would like to drink, she explains that "it will be a while since she had to get drinks for two tables in the restaurant, take an order for one, and cash out a table." It was then I noticed that most of those at the bar either had no drinks or empty drinks in front of them. Now the family started to debate...do we try another restaurant in town or stay here? We decided to stay (big mistake). After about 10 more minutes and before the bartender returned, we were seated. It was a trick. We just sat there. No waitress to be seen. For that matter, the few tables that had diners were also now empty. We started to think that perhaps we had been forgotten and just then, the waitress arrived. Scared to prolong this experience, we ordered drinks, apps, and lunch all at the same time. Drinks took about 10 minutes, apps another 10 minutes and lunch another 15 minutes. We are starting to approach the time I would expect for a fine dining experience. Well, not really. Anyway... food was slightly below average. Burgers were overcooked, club sandwich was practically all bread, and the apps were room temp. I will say that the "big beer" was the best deal. It definitely was a "big beer" and for only $10. Yes, it was domestic and not a craft brew but it hit the spot. I should have gotten my hands on one of these when I first arrived so that the rest of the experience would have been more tolerable. Came here on 9/24/2018 around 3pm, and grabbed 2 seats at the bar with my boyfriend. We were grabbing a quick beer before we met up with my parents. I use to come here all the time when I went to Radford and wanted to show my boyfriend my old stomping grounds. The beer selection s spectacular, I say this and I live in Colorado now! Get the french onion dip, it will blow your mind! I didn't catch the male bartender's name that day but he was beyond kind and gave great service. As we left I got a really bad taste in my mouth.... as I said I am an alumni try Sigma from Radford and my boyfriend from Oregon, he was wearing a Virginia Tech sweatshirt my father lent him since it was cold, and as we were exiting the building a young, long dark-brown haired hostess asked if we like Tech, and I said yep thats why we have the sweatshirt (jokingly) and she rudely and mockingly scoffed at us saying, "yeah well you know they lost yesterday to ODU right?!" Anyone with a TV or phone could have figure that one out girlfriend. What a bad representation of southern hospitality and even more so a reflection of the staff there. The last couple of times I have been here, we have had problems getting served. Once the waiters realize we've been sitting for so long watching them bring food to folks who came in after us, they wait on us. This weekend, I actually had to go to the bar and get my own drinks before happy hour closed. The service, once they realize we have been waiting for a long time is good. The food and drinks are good. If the service could ever get straightened out, it might earn 4 or 5 stars. This place has had problems with service over the last few months. read more

Local restaurant and have been going for years. Very good sandwiches and opt for the fries instead of chips. Normally I stick with my favorites but tried a new one, Babe Ruth. The Brooklyn Bridge, Packard and their hamburgers are really good too. Try the nachos or potato skins for a good appetizer. Sometimes the service could be better but that is during really busy times or if staff is new. Definitely a good place to try if in the mood for pub food or a sandwich full of meat, cheeses and toppings! read more

We were not terribly impressed with this experience. My family stopped here for a quick lunch on our way further north. We'd heard about good sandwiches, so we decided to check it out. It seems pretty clear that Macado's is something of a traditional hangout in this college town. And I can see why: it's kitschy and comfortable. My Big Daddy sandwich was good. This was a double portion of sliced steak, grilled portabello mushrooms, lettuce, tomato, mayo, onions with swiss and american cheese on french bread. I asked for them to slip some chicken into the mix. The whole thing was delicious. And my fiancée said her burger was also satisfying. But here's where things started to fall down: the milkshake was terribly disappointing. It was mostly ice, surrounded by some sweet milk. Awful. And service was lackadaisical. Almost noncommittal. For instance, when one cup came back from the kitchen covered in some kind of schmutz, the waitress couldn't even squeeze out an apology. read more

Walked in, floors were so slippery. Ordered two easy dishes; Irish nachos and a large basket of fries. Everything went down from the moment the fries hit the table we realized this place not edible. The fries were COLD, not mild cold, like freezer sit on the counter thaw cold. Oh let me mention how big the basket of fires is; BIG! I sent them back and what returned was a small basket of WARM fires "SMALL." The nachos... they had three small pieces of lettuce, not sure what kind of cheese it was but looked like it came from the 7eleven machine. The portion according to the manager wasn't even half.. we expressed our dissatisfaction with the Manager and was told he would bring something out better or comp the meal. The problem is, I already sent back the cold fries and got nothing better and the person trying hard to please us was the server "Rachel" who really wanted to satisfy us but she doesn't have the support to do anything about it. What a joke, never again Macados, after 2 years of swearing I would not go back, my wife talked me into it. Almost 2 hours on 2 sandwiches and no food, 30 minutes without drinks after watching most of the staff standing around talking. First glass of wine had crud in it, finally got a second glass without crud, we finally got up and found someone to pay for our drinks and they informed us that they are short staffed, kinda odd considering that most people weren't doing their jobs, we left there and went to another local restaurant, and they were packed and we were literally eating within 30 minutes of leaving macados, all I could do is laugh as I was leaving.
